I had a 10 hour layover at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. I had to go through security again because my bag couldnt be checked to my final destination. Outside the security there is no where to sit except for uncomfortable metal benches, a few stores, a restaurant and 2 KFC's. The airport is small so exploring it can be done in a matter of minutes. The KFC is beautiful, with cushy seats, large windows, and food! I found that the portions were significantly smaller yet greasier than what is offered at a typical Canadian KFC. Many travellers rested at KFC because there was no where else to do so, it's a very comfortable place. However, regardless of the fact that it's an international airport, nobody spoke english. I expected at least a few staff to speak english since it is a very large scale language, however I ran into many problems because no one did. The staff tried their best regardless though! If you can't read or speak Chinese good luck to you, it's very difficult. Once you get past security theres a burger kind, some other small stores, and a nice cafe with great bubble tea. From the windows the city of Xiamen is very close and quite beautiful, next time i'll consider venturing outside as a way to pass by time.
Except for difficult transfer (temporary visa entry - re-entry inspection required) Airport which is good to use.
There is a food and drinking area on the lower floor, and there are several Chinese restaurants that are good if you walk a little from the airport
Brand new, modern airport,
I hope that in the future, MRT (subway) can pass to the Convention and Exhibition Center.
I like the Beijing to Xiamen line, preferring Hainan Airline. Comfortable without complaining, that's how you feel as a passenger. It is NOT different from appearance and which head shapes, BUT not only fitting clothing to get on the spot. The climate is excellent and constructional without any mistakes with traditional cultures. warm, warm, but also with relative distance.
This airport is divided into domestic passenger terminal 4 and international passenger terminal 3, which will have a free shuttle bus service between these two parts.
Nice airport, helpful staff. A bit of a challenge to transfer from International to Domestic terminal and vice versa.
A bit crowded, depending on the flight schedules of airlines.
The word "Zamen Airport" is displayed in Japanese katakana notation, but this does not work. "Shamen" is close to the actual pronunciation.
All international flights and Xiamen Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Hebei Airlines domestic flights will be operated at Terminal T3, which has previously been domestic flights, and all domestic flights other than the three mentioned above will be operated at the new terminal T4, which started service on December 28, 2014. .
Just had some slight difficulty getting to the check-in counters. Location is good as it is near the center of Xiamen. Security is very tight at departure but it is just a slight inconvenience. Interior seems dated and there is this weird smell especially in the arrival portion. Western fast food is available before boarding.
ALL CHINA AIRLINES ARE REQUESTED TO KINDLY FLY DIRECT TO (ATQ) AMRITSAR , PUNJAB , INDIA . ATQ IS FASTEST GROWING AIRPORT IN INDIA .
Actually most are the reviews about this airport are wrong or false. I found staff are willing to do almost anything to help you, they know how to translate with help of phones, xaiman air was amazing. It's the layover that's a killer. Make sure you carefully consider any layover here. This airport is not well equipped for foreign travelers. The wifi is horrible, it has no access. I'm a tech person and found it nearly impossible to connect for any time. You will need a vpn to do anything. Actually book your ticket to Shenzhen, it's 100x better, connecting was great, shops, coffee... It's really nice
Good, clean, the cleaning service staff is honest, I left my cellphone when I searched again and it turned out that I was already taken to the lost and found counter.
The security is pretty but still has restaurants with reasonable prices and stores where you can get many things. Aesthetically it does not have much to show.
Small and medium airports. There are T3 and T4, terminal buildings. I arrived from T3 International. Passing through is still smooth. However, if you encounter multiple flights, it will be confusing.
As the city of Xiamen continues to grow, Xiamen Gaoqi airport, which it shares the same island with has little room to expand after the latest completion of terminal 4 in 2014. A new airport is currently under construction on Dadeng Island, Xiangan District, currently known as Xiamen Xiangan Airport and scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018. When completed it will boast two new runways, a 550,000 sq meter terminal, and be able to handle up to 45 million passengers.
Xiamen's Gaoqi Airport is a clean and esthetically pleasing airport. I was pleasantly surprised when after several flights, we arrived at the airport on the second floor and as we came down the escalator to collect baggage and go to customs, there was a pianist in front of us playing a grand piano and there was a wet wall with the water trickling down. Really helping to remove the stress from passengers.
In general, compared with similar airports in China, it is still good.
Not enough:
1. Baggage drop-off is still slow and needs to wait;
2. The continuation is more powerful, and you should have the consciousness to buy delay insurance in advance.
Good, clean. But the staff are not proficient in English
Full marks for willingness to help. Not much English and and the usual problem in China in that Visa and Mastercard not accepted, but I don't think in half a century of travelling around the world by air I've ever come across an airport where the staff are not only helpful but so proactively caring in relation to travellers.
Meeting is difficult to understand. The underground parking lot seems to be a general pick-up location, but the car that picks you up can only be stopped for about 8 minutes. It's a fee, but of course it's okay, but DiDi etc. have a limited time
Nice staff but terrible transit system. Not the best airport to transit at. Beijing, Tokyo, Taipei, are much better.
Awful and very slow service, disgusting smell in most of the airport, extremely (!!!) rude security control + they completely broke our suitcase. One security control member was even scolding other members in front of everyone to the point of them bawling their eyes out. Very nice atmosphere.
We have never had such an awful experience at any airport we've been too. Should have booked our tickets without the layovers there. I would honestly rather spend more money than spend time here ever again. Only 1 star because you can't give 0.
The overall airport service is good, the airport facilities are new, spacious and bright.
As for China, the airport is good, but sometimes you get the impression that it is already a Taiwanese port, and comparing it with Taiwan airports, it unfortunately falls pale. It is probably the worst with restaurants, which is a pity.
The first time i went abroad was to Tianjin via Xiamen. The airport is spacious and clean. The toilet also clean and not too smell. The officers are nice and guide me well to the transit area. The information sign in the Airport is good and was not make me confused although it is the first time i am in xiamen.
A small airport located in the north of Xiamen Island. Quite well organized, the signal is easy to understand. However, bearing in mind that there are two terminals. Terminal 3 serves the international flights and Xiamen airlines flights and 4 is for the domestic flights.
It is a small airport comparing to other airports in China but is a big and better airport as in contrast to some countries. Most of the workers that I encountered here were accommodating and polite.
Taxi driver took me to old terminal not the International terminal. After that drop me at arrival hall drop off not departure hall drop off.
Provincial Airport, outside of the European standards, full of grocery stores and little else
It was convenient. Cloud mud is different from other Chinese airports. I want an apprenticeship.
I saw many people above saying that you said that McDonald s at the airport is delicious.
Known as an adventure airport in China, fast entry and exit procedures, friendly staff, clean inside and outside.
The airport staff is very kind, but many toilets in the airport are smelly
Nice small (by Chinese standards) airport. Easy to get around.
Nice modern airport not far from city. about RMB 50 cab ride from downtown Zhong Shan Lu pedestrian mall. Do make sure of our terminals before leaving for the airport. There is a Burger King at the departure gate of you already have enough of the Hokkkiem food.
The area of the airport doesn't seem to be too large, and actually going back to the city requires a BRT. so so.
They don't take usd or visa.i cash 15usd to their currency they charge me 3.50 and pay 7.50 for a cheeseburger deal from burger king not worth it
It is a good Chinese airport and convenient in the city.
Comparable to other airports in China, this is rather a smaller airport. Easy to manoeuvre, shorter walking distance. We did a domestic transit followed by an international flight via Xiamen airport. The transfer sign isn t clear. We were finally found our way came out from domestic arrival then go to level two depart again at international hall. Staffs can be friendlier.
I'm local, hence I might be biased, and lack experience with transit. I do fly in and out of the airport rather often. It's not a huge airport like PEK or PVG, thus it is rather easy to make your way to various gates after security check (if you limit yourself to international flights and domestic flights flown by MF, CZ, and a few others; no experience with the new T4 that currently serve all other domestic flights).
Bathrooms are consistently and noticably cleaner than most airports in China and, so as to calibrate your expectations, than many airports in the US. Looking at ye, SFO. Haven't been to SeaTac for a while but XMN is probably still better than it. Other hardwares are similarly modern and well maintained.
It's been a while but the last time I flew int'l from XMN, security check staffs were able to say command words and pointing out prohibited things in English.
Smaller than usual in China, even the Wartebeich is poor and was crowded.
Kinda miss this place , dont worry XiaMen next time I'll be back
It s a good idea to go through five passes and six people.
teribble,
the worst airport I've ever been to. for two hours they were questioned because they never saw the passage of the Bosnian and Herzegovina, they looked at the maggots because they were afraid that we invented the state, asked us to show pictures with fb, a passionate and very unpleasant experience, and we were only in transit to Bali, we did go out into the city. Two coffee are 10e, you do not eat, except king burgers and mc donals that are triple gathering. Avoid this airport. teribbleeeeeeee
Had a good experience with this airport.. things were so fast that I could catch an international flight comfortably, arriving around 50 minutes before departure..
The hardware is quite perfect, but the clearance time is long, and the apron is far away from the customs.
Xiamen is a livable city and the airport service is also very good. Recommend!
It is a good airport in the good city.
Due to the long stay (> 12 hours) in Xiamen a free hotel booking was given to me on behalf of Xiamen Airways at desk B11. I did not use it. As it can be broad daylight you can take advantage of your 72-hour visa to go into town. There is an ATM near the desk inside the hall where you can get Chinese money. 100 Yuan = approximately 14 euros (June 2016). Your luggage (if not booked through to your next destination) can be stored in the lost / found luggage room so you have your hands free when going to town. Storage costs are approximately 13 Yuan for 2 pieces of luggage. Get a map of the island / city at the Tourist Information Desk in the hall.
To get to Down Town Xiamen, take a bus or a taxi. Bus line 27 goes all the way to the south west and it will only cost you one Yuan, to be inserted in a box near the driver. It takes 45 minutes to get there. It can get crowded on the bus so grab a seat when you can. A taxi will take you there too but I will cost you something like 30 Yuan. Bus 27 goes back to the Airport too.
Be sure when you go back, to the International Terminal (T3), the Domestic Terminal (T4) looks totally identical but lies about a kilometer to the east. There is a free shuttle bus running between these terminals.
Download an offline app with maps of the city because in China both Google (Maps and other services) and Facebook are still blocked. Beware of the security check, they are like Nazis for water bottles, lighters, matches and Lipo power packs with no capacity indication or any capacity over 30,000 mAh.
Dutch Language:
At the counter B11 of Xiamen Airways you have a free hotel stay, make sure your pin is activated for abroad and pin in the departure hall what Yuan's (June 2016: 100 Yuan = 14 euros) just exchanging money is very expensive. If you want to go into town with your one-day visa, then leave your luggage (if it is not transferred to your next destination) for safekeeping at the lost and found luggage counter and pick it up again before departure, costs around 13 Yuan for 2 pieces of luggage. Make sure you do this in the International Terminal (T3), the domestic flights terminal (T4) looks exactly the same but does not have that box of luggage and is also a good distance away from the international Terminal. There is a free shuttle bus between terminals 3 and 4.
Get a map of the city at the tourist information desk on T3. You can take the bus to get to downtown Xiamen. Line 27 goes all the way to the pier. Throw a note from 1 Yuan in the van with the driver and get your 45 minutes transported to the final stop. Sit down right away because the bus can get pretty full. Fortunately there is air conditioning in the bus. Bus 27 also goes back to the airport.
Advice: make a city trip, it is never disappointing if you have to wait so long. Clean city, quiet traffic and peaceful people. Note that all mopeds are electric and you will only hear them when they are honking right behind you. Download an app with an offline folder in advance because in China both Facebook and Google are still blocked with all services. Please note, the security check on departure from China is terribly strict and has a "befehl ist befehl" mentality: no water bottles, lighter or matches allowed in your hand luggage. In addition, having Lipo powerpacks without a capacity indication or an indication of more than 30,000 mAh in your hand luggage is forbidden and you therefore lose those things.
Finally, I got the best souvenir for my friends here.
I came out to take a taxi for more than half an hour. I went to the ferry terminal and spent eighty-eight things. I will say it everywhere.
Xiamen Airlines has a transfer lounge that can be used for showers, but bring your own bath towels.
The airport's service staff is okay. When leaving the country, there are taxis waiting at the door. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the city center. The fare is about 25 yuan. It is recommended that if you are going to Xiamen for the first time, you should find a good hotel and hotel. The address phone, otherwise, some people who drive, but ask you, do you know the place? I am so stupid, you said that I am not clear, after all, we are not Xiamen people how to know the geography, may also be Oh, I hope that I don t come across this taxi driver. Wish you be happy
I was not able to get a visa card at the airport because I was picked up at the airport by way of Xiamen Air. I did not get a visa card at the airport. I called 8 bucks. Also Chinese class ... I think I saw one convenience store at the airport. I do not pass through China any more.
From here fly to Hong Kong, there is not much shopping
The check-in counter customer services are so bad and rude and not professional.
There's no signage about the directions at all.
But the security check staff are not bad.
Flew in from Qingdao. No long queues, it was fast to get my baggage.
During day time the airport is nice but it's absolutely worst if you're staying overnight. Not enough chairs to sit or sleep on, no stores open to buy food, you can only buy drinks from a single vending machine that only accepts chinese yuan.
ATM machine is on the 2nd floor and is off limits at night unless you ask one of the staffs to accompany you with their elevator key.
For first timers, you won't be able to connect to the wifi unless if you have a chinese cellphone carrier. If you are connecting a flight to another country at night they will unload all your luggage, check in and carry on luggages.
Its easy to get taxi. Most of ATM only use Chinese language but you could find an ATM in thr corner next to the restaurant (different side from KFC) that has English. Not all staff in airport can speak english. Try the fresh noodle soup, its very nice
Require transit Visa when fly round-trip Usa-vietnam-usa. Never ever fly Xiamen airlines again!
