Houston's #1 self service bike shop! Huge selection! Horrible prices! Dismal customer service!

Are you looking for employees who make it seem like a chore to help you?
Are you a l33t cyclist who needs his/her ego stroked?
Do you need your hipster card punched?
Do you think your money is greener than every one elses?

THEN GO HERE, NOW!!

A HUGE disappointment, seriously. After seeing this place recommended so many times, I decided to give it a try. There was just no interest in helping me find a bike. I talked to the guy who was helping me, he showed me the type of bikes I was looking for, and that was it. ZERO interaction - very transactional. They do have a huge selection of bikes and gear and I have no doubt that the folks behind the counter know their stuff. However, I refuse to drop coin at a place that shows zero interest in helping a new customer. On top of that, they were selling previous year models for more than you can find current year models in other shops! I suppose if you're friends with one of the employees, you have a better experience. I would not recommend West End Bicycles to any new or casual cyclists. ...well, to anyone really.

This is a great place for all things bicycle.

This is a great place for all things bicycle.

When i walked in I was really surprised at the size and the number of bikes. It was really big! It looks small from the outside, but this place is cavernous when you walk in.

They have about a million bikes. I have never seen a bike shop with so many bikes. I saw a lot of Specialized bikes, and there were road bikes, mountain bikes, and everything in between.

The two times I have been i have need accessories. the first time I need a fender to keep water of my backside in the rain. They had a quick release one that was reasonably priced. I really like it. The second time I needed some gloves, and they had a huge selection at a lot of different price points. I got just what I needed.

The staff is friendly and helpful, but will leave you alone if you just want to browse. The place has a nice laid back feel to it, and you might see a friendly cat wondering around. This is where I will continue to go for all my bicycle needs.

I travel for a living and bring my folding e bike with me everywhere I go. These guys were able to get me on the road really quick and very professional about it at the same time. I was only going to be in town the one day. It s a big deal to get that kind of service. I can highly recommend this business. When I come back to this area I ll go out of my way to do business once again. Thank you West End Bicycle!

Seriously awesome shop. Great for a first bike and/or advanced gear. Don t buy anything until you stop here- probably the best place in Houston for gear/repairs

Went around to a bunch of shops all over and none were even half as knowledgeable and were much smaller and more expensive without the top rated products

I ll be buying the SO s bike and gear here next too

I love this place! Its hidden on the back roads on Blossom St, a buddy told me about it several months ago, since i found it I have been in there many many times... The techs are great, they explain things and take the time with me... They rebuilt my vintage bike for me , they redid and upgraded my daily bike as well.. And i just bought a brand new bike from them yesterday (well my wife bought it as a gift for me) .. I have been in alot of bike shops but this place just feels like home... And the owner Dan has a great reputation fro being a nice guy.. I certainly agree....

I have lived in the Heights for five years and have used many of the local bike shop down here. I would have to rank the shop is one of the best. I took my bike into day they were able to look at it and get it repaired the same day. And it was repair of the bottom bracket and they been very busy. I go to the shop often like to trade at the local bike shops. I have used other local bike shops and have been disappointed as they couldn t fix the problem kept the bike for weeks and had to take it elsewhere. I ve had other friends that have had problems with other local bike shops. While they are doing some repairs they handed me an E bike and I rode that up and down the street. What a great experience I would highly rated this place. The bike that they repaired was bought elsewhere have a technician was very knowledgeable about the Cranks and was able to get me fixed up and as I said while I waited I got to play with other bikes. Support your local bike shops. I think the charges were very reasonable. Actually I did not think they charged me enough and I like to try to make up the difference. Go ride your bikes and support your local bike shops.

Most bike stores are amazing. These guys are the best of breed.
Instead of just selling you a bike, the will help you restore for a fraction.

Case in point, i have been here twice for axle and wheel repair and was charged <$10 each time!
Both times, I went to another well rated bike store near my house and both times they refused to repair and tried to sell me a new wheel.

Found this place when we moved to town. Couldn't have met a friendlier and more knowledgeable bunch of folks. We were looking for a bike to purchase and had visited another nearby competitor, who actually had a better price, but the service we received at West End was FAR better than the first shop we went to.

Not only was their service and low key salesmanship appreciated, they also went out of their way to introduce us to local clubs and trails in the area.

Just an overall great experience. Thanks...

BE WEARY OF GIVING THEM YOUR CREDIT INFO
Rented bikes from them and had a terrible experience. Rented the bikes and brought them back and they said I was good to go, when I checked my credit card statement it showed that they had charged me an extra $20 dollars. When I called to figure out the situation I was told there was a scratch on the bike...really give me an F**king break its a rental bike..anyways I told the guy in charge of rentals to credit my account back because I did not put the scratch on the bike and he refused...these guys are crooks I was told that my credit card info was going to be shredded and they went back and charged my card.
!!!!!!!!DO NOT USE YOUR CREDIT CARD WITH THEM THEY WILL FRAUDULENTLY CHARGE YOUR ACCOUNT!!!!!!

West End used to be a great bike shop and in many ways still is. I always knew that I was paying more than going to a big box store or chain, but it was worth it to support a good local bike store. Unfortunately, a few recent interactions have stopped me from returning. In particular, one employee appeared to be under the influence of something when I placed an order for new tires and dropped my bike off for some maintenance. It turns out that the employee never actually ordered the tires or created a work order. When I called in after one week the same employee said that the service I requested was too time consuming and that they should be charging more than what I was quoted (I ended up bringing it to another shop for 1/4 of the price). On the 14th day I called and the very same employee said that he could not tell if the part had actually been ordered and that the person responsible for ordering it (himself) was not available to ask. My wife had come in with me on that original visit and the employee couldn t be bothered to help her look at bikes. I would have been happy to buy my wife a bike that day but this employee wouldn t even engage in a conversation with her, so we went elsewhere.

There are a bunch of great employees at the shop who I always had fun interacting with, but I can t spend good money at a place that allows their customers to be treated that way.

This place is so awesome! I've been there a few times over the last month and I'm always greeted with help and advice. The guys here are not only super nice but they know a lot about bikes and are always more than willing to help. Plus this place has almost everything I've needed. Thanks soooo much for your courtesy! Happy this place is in my hood.

The best bike shop in Texas - hands down! Daniel found for me the exact Specialized mountain bike I wanted (perfect!), his staff prepared and tuned it with precision, and Zoe helped me find the right gear. And, it was all done with skilled experience, the upmost pleasantry, and quality customer service. I cannot emphasize enough just how customer-centered this business is, and that's really saying something today. This was my first time with them, and how very lucky I feel making that call and finding them. I'm in Galveston -- a forty minute drive to West End. But, from now on, I will go nowhere else, and they have a customer for life with me. Thanks!

Limited selection and poor customer service. Better to shop online than go here.

I stopped in to get some custom footbeds and I asked the girl working the desk. I got an "over there" and spent 30 minutes trying to figure out the Specialized system. There was an employee in that area but he was indistinguishable from a customer and was gossiping very loudly with the coffee girls the entire time. He only stopped to say something to me once i was checking out.

the selection itself is great if you only want Specialized gear. Other than that there are Wilier bikes and not much else.

Poor selection, poor service.

These guys are awesome. There was an issue with getting a new wheel. Not their fault. They went out of their way to get me a new wheel and broke up a set at their store. Great customer service. I rode my bike last night after the annual tune up. It was like a brand new bike. They treat you like family

Every time I go to West End Bicycles, I have a great experience. The guys at the shop are knowledgeable, they have great equipment and variety and I really get the feeling that they enjoy bicycles. Had my bike fixed by those guys. Brakes were loose, gears weren't changing very well and the entire bike felt wrong. So I went for a full rebuild, had it stripped down and redone and man that did an amazing difference, the first time I went back on the trails without pushing I beat all my strava times... It's not cheap (not outrageous either) but totally worth it, I'd recommend and this is my go to shop for bikes now!

I went in with a lot of questions - ended up leaving after buying a nice Hybrid bike for myself and a cruiser type for my wife. The crew was welcoming, very helpful, and happy to let me test drive bikes along the way. I'm planning on getting my feet wet with some cycling & triathlons, but I will definitely be back when I'm ready to throw down the cash for a nice road/gravel bike!

I like West End Bicycles. I appreciate the many chances to ride some fat and plus bikes that I couldn t find anywhere else. When I finally bought a bike (Surly ECR), I made sure I bought it from them. They found a great factory deal on a model a couple of years old. A real bargain.

Still a great shop, but they don t seem to have the Surly and Salsa stock so much anymore. I understand, they probably just weren t selling. It is a good place for plus bikes. They have more than most shops.

Wow amazing store. I went in to buy a pedal wrench and the guy just took my pedals off for me. Then asked if I had my new ones. He said he would install them- I did not but I was blown away. What an awesome store. While I was there 4 of the guys asked if I needed help and the place was filled with people.

Lots of bikes, saddles, best glove collection in town and lots of shoes. This place is worth a drive!

Thanks Guys I'll be back!

Superb service. It truly feels like every person receives personalized service. They will go above and beyond to get you what you want or need, with no games, only top notch service. If they don't know what they are talking about, they find someone else on the floor who really is an expert to answer your every question.

Oh and they beat the competitions price. Don't like the price? Talk to them about it.

I LOVE THIS PLACE.

New to the area and went to look at bikes to ride around town and on the bike paths. Sales person wasn't paying attention because right after I told him what type of riding, he asked if I wanted to ride off road trails. No, I already have a mountain bike. We move on, but then he stopped taking to me to say hi to a buddy. He then had to ask me what we were talking about when he focused on me again. He then stops again to chat with his buddy. No "excuse me" or apologies. He completely ignored me at that point. I stood there for a minute, then walked around the store. He was still talking and I started to feel like a fool, so I left. I'll be buying bikes for my wife and I somewhere else.

Disappointed to see multiple bad reviews. I've used this shop for at least 10 years with amazing customer service and bike work. My now wife even went several years ago cause her Trek brakes locked up and she didn't know anything about bikes. She didnt even how to explain what was wrong, but they serviced the brakes for no charge and very nice to her. I'm barely a weekend warrior and out of shape but I drove from Tomball this weekend and as soon as I walked in was helped. So I don't believe the whole they stereotype riders who they want to help. Whole purpose of the visit was to bleed the brakes. Well turned out there is a recall that I didn't even know about and they are going to replace them for free on a bike I didn't purchase from there. Every visit I've made here has been amazing, even if it's just to talk about bikes. Once the owner even showed a friend and I, his private stash of vintage and rare bikes and talked for several hours.

I ve been to other bike shops and was treated like they where above giving me customer service, but when I first walked into West End Bicycles, I was treated with first class costumer service right off the bat. My first encounter was with Butch who greeted me and asked what I was interested in. He walked me around and showed me the options. To tell you the true, I fell in love with the Specialized Roll as soon as I saw it next to the front entrance; it had everything I was looking for. Butch asked me to test ride it and even took it apart to see if it would fit in my car since I don t like car bike racks. He as knowledgeable, patient with my questions, offered options and was very accommodating. I bought the bike that same visit. I later came back the next day for accessories and they put them on for me. My first and second visit where incredibly awesome.
I returned a month later to change the tread tires on my folding mountain bike and I was in and out quickly. I talked to butch every visit and other employees who where there. They where all nice and friendly and knowledgeable each. They even work cohesively together on the same bikes.
I ve been riding a lot since buying the Specialized Roll and upgraded my folding mountain bike. I ve fallen in love with the road again and out enjoying what Houston has to offer. Thanks West End Bicycles with the great experience at your shop!

My 15 year old son and I have been to the vast majority of bicycle shops in the houston area and have never experienced this high grade level of customer service before. The staff member that helped us the most was Louis, and he was very knowledgable and patient with our katrillion questions we had. The store has a huge selection of high quality bicycles and a 4 to 5 army ant team of bike mechanics always at work. Reminds me of santa's elves. Anyways, they listen to what you want and direct you to the type of bike that fits your budget and needs the best. We ended up special ordering a bike and it arrived quickly and was assembled in only a few days. I really recommend any body to stop by this bike shop and give them a chance to earn your business. Its obvious they are in it for the pure love of the hobby. Kevin and Joe

Came from Minnesota, called early last week, bike shop doesn't reserve bikes. Get there the day after Easter, and only $75 bikes. Advertise $35 mountain bikes, what the heck. I even asked for 4 hour rate, no can't shoo that. It was 1030 AM and only expensive bikes left and what local bike shop doesn't reserve bikes. Their competitor rents for $25 and reserves them. As a long time mountain biker, and traveler, this is unbelievable poor service.... Like a bait and switch.

Went to buy a chain for my mountain bike. Bought it. Was asked if I wanted them to put it on, so I said sure. Took like 60 seconds. Charged me an extra 10 dollars for a "service fee". Are you joking? West End Bicycles kicks so much butt your poop could fly in the air. Seriously, though, this shop is awesome. I've been to a fair number of shops in and outside of TX and it's sweet to have a place like this in Houston. The workers are super humble, friendly, genuinely passionate about bikes, and don't have any sort of arrogant vibe some shops can get. I went to switch out my crankset and they finished the job pretty quickly. Moreover, a worker there gave me advice on what I need to do if I were to change the parts next time myself. What Really blew my mind is they didn't even charge me after knowing my budget was that of the typical broke college student. Five giant chunky stars and screw those others star-stingy whiny reviews. This place is great!
