Great trip with kids. Very educational. Check their website for ship tours and festivals. We were lucky to have visited when the Neil Armstrong was visiting and got to take a tour. Tour Guides/Hosts are amazing with kids!

If your gonna "talk the talk then you better be ready to walk the walk." I have a neighbor who works here. While they purport themselves to be for the environment taking in probably millions in dontations, he racks up thousands of frequent flyer miles every year just going places to just pull temperature data? ....what a racket, not to mention few weeks back a chauffered black Suburban picked him up for last trip and just for one guy ? ! Apparently they don't walk the walk.....So much for the "optics" of this institution !

Gosh, I haven't been there in a few years, but we absolutely loved visiting! My kids could not get enough of the horseshoe crabs, turtles, and hundreds of fish, along with many others. I highly recommend!

This place is doing great work, I'm sure, in spite of the huge complexity of coordinating among the 60-odd institutions that make use of their facilities and personnel. But it's not necessarily a good place to visit as a tourist, at least not during the summer. We signed up for the walking tour, and while the guide was patient and full of stories about the history of the local area, he knew very little about the workings of The Institute or the research that that they perform there. The really interesting ships, Alvin and Atlantis and Neil Armstrong, were all out on missions, and we weren't allowed in any of the research areas. Which is understandable.

Olivia at the exhibit center, as part of the Splash Lab, showed our son the coooolest hands on experiments to illustrate water density, acidity effects and simulation of an oil spill. Great job.

After a visit to Martha's Vineyard, instead of getting the ferry back to Hyannis,we decided to go to Woods Hole.I'm so glad we did as the museum was very interesting. We stayed 2 nights & walked up & down the hill to our digs several times.
There is a maritime museum down the hill that is full of antique & vintage sailing gear.
The gentleman who showed us through was very helpful, explaining what many of the bits & bobs were for.
We are from N.Z.And at the time of the grounding of the Rena on the Astrolabe reef,it
was great to read of WHOI's involvement in the disaster.
I'd love to revisit some day.
