Their taps are legit! You can get the Hef and yadda anywhere but that El Injerto? Nah bruh! And I think that winter is when they shine [I also tend to lean more dark and barrel aged in my beer prefs so there's some bias there]
NB: I should disclose that I do not typically drink their beer in bottles and I do not order their beer on draft at most places [unless it's a special release]. I do recommend their beers in bottles to as many ppl as possible as examples of the standard for the styles. Their Amber and Hef are not in my wheelhouse but I have recommended it to many as an entre to their awesomeness then I strongly recommend they go to Widmer, take the $5 brewery tour, and enjoy! BTW: They have a great happy hour w/garlic chicken wings and BBQ sauce w/beer in it + some more veggie friendly options. They do not have fries, don't ask bx your feelings will get hurt. Oh and they are the sponsor & driving force behind Burger Week! Prost!
Finally went to Widmer and I have definitely been missing out. Lots of beers to try if you're feeling up to it, and if not they have all the beers you see in the store on tap as well. The Metal as Bock doppelbock was a big surprise and I hope to get it again before they rotate in another beer.
Food wise it is up to par with the other breweries with great food in the area. Lots to choose from and all if it is of a higher quality.
Good beer. The restaurant was great, and family-friendly. Now they've clipped hours, and only have the tasting room. Big disappointment.
Used to come here for food and beers. Now you can only have beers and snacks . Very limited snacks at that and they are out of everything you d want off their very limited snack menu. I love Widmer beer. It s my favorite. But I won t be back to this place.
It's doesn't feel like a very safe place to be after dark especially when you are by yourself. There isn't any foot traffic from open businesses in the immediate area which means you are pretty much on your own? Widmere Brewery usually has a security guard walking around somewhere at the facility across the street though.
I once witnessed what appeared to be a male and female couple harassing a drunk woman accusing them of stealing her wallet. A man who was also waiting for the max helped her stand up and called 911 for her.
Love the new outdoor beer garden! $1 Hefes if the train sounds it's horn!
Amazing food, great service, optimal location connected with a brewery. We loved it and will certainly be back!
Sure is rough to dine here with a vegan. There's not an alternative patty to slide into a burger, so the vegan at the table chose the beet salad, but it was more of an appetizer size than the size of the other salads. Luckily he additionally got an appetizer to go with the salad to tide him over.
The burgers that others got were sort of small, and no fries are served here, which is sort of odd for a "pub."
My advice...Pop a box of Boca burgers in the freezer for the vegans and put that beet salad on a bed of lettuce to help it stretch a lil farther. All restaurants close in should have a vegan back up plan. :)
Not good anymore! Been going there for years and boy has it changed. Went from great food to 'never going there for lunch again'. Beer is still good but the place has about 10 people in it or less. Lunches use to pack the house. Hardly any beer selling in the bar anymore from what I can see. Huge disappointment. At least the people who still work the floor are great.
I've loved their beer for years now, so going here was a must when I was visiting Portland. They had quite the selection, I was so happy! The Hopfruit was by far my favorite.
Gastropub is CLOSED, but nowhere is it mentioned on this profile. Came here for nothing. Avoid unless you wish to visit the retail store.
Come take a tour! This is definitely a great brewing to check out in Portland. It's definitely one of Portland's largest breweries, so you'll get a slightly different perspective compared to some of the other micro breweries in town.
Awesome location. Easy parking. 27 beers on tap. Wow awesome. Food was fair price under $7 all meals .and it was delicious. I prefer the Vienna Lager beer. It was really fresh..I'll be back
I love the beers here, especially the ones you can t typically find in stores or so widely distributed. The pub vibe is awesome too and I highly recommend the tour! Only reason for 4 stars is that I d love to see other CBA beers on tap and wish they d bring back a larger food menu.
Try on a buffalo wild wings the hefeweizen today and there is only one word for it .... Yackkkk
Im saddened on the removal of the Green Upheaval IPA. I have drank and loved this beer for years. I DO NOT WANT CITRUS BEER! .There is nothing that compares to this one. Gonna have to take my business else where. Im gonna have to try to do some exploring to find the right Indian pale ale something simular to it. Which I highly believe I won't be able to find.
Beer is awesome but the food has sucked the last few times going in
Love Widmer Bros! Always stop here before Blazer games.
Great food and beer, brought to you by Widmer. Mmmm.
Awesome tour with tons of beer samples and possible the biggest merchandise selection I have ever seen!
Food is expensive, and small proportions. The beer is good, and usually very busy.
My wife and I made our trip to Portland and this from what we were told was a must. It's a classic. An original. A pioneer in the craft world. Anyone who's a fan of craft beer knows the infamous Hefe. We had lunch in the bistro cafe and it was really good. We ordered a steak plate and fries. The servers were super friendly and helpful. We went in on a Monday so we figured it shouldn't have been busy. I like that it was a slower day because we got to take our time eating and sampling the beers. Got a flight of beer to warm us up for the brewery tour.
I have to admit that I love history, beer, and food. You get it all here. What more can you ask for.
The tour was fairly priced and it was really interesting to learn a lot of the brewing process. I learned that smaller craft breweries help each other out a lot. For example I love Kona Brewing, they're based out of Hawaii. Yet they are integrated with other breweries so anyone can make each other's beer. Better for costs, shipping, etc. I thought that was super cool. The tour ends with the tasting and man o man. I wasn't ready at all. The beers were more experimental than others especially the last one. They start you off light and move onto the heavier beers. The last one was a seasonal release that was brewed in whiskey caskets so you get the idea. I believe it was like 11% or something. At the end of the tour we went to the gift shop and they have tons of merchandise. We got a hat and shirt. Will return on our next Portland trip.
I found the pitch black ipa in Italy, where i live. It's Great!
Amazing Service Amazing Food and Amazing BEER (Chris was our server's name) My absolute favorite beer...so happy to finally get a chance to experience the brewery! If you're reading this JUST GO you will not be disappointed.
During my last visit, we spent some time in the beer garden just across the street from the restaurant before cooling off inside. Enjoyed a couple flights and some great food. Bartender was friendly and very knowledgeable!
I took a brewery tour here during Zwicklmania one year. I was greeted by one of the Widmer brothers himself and became a little starstruck. They provided you with a complimentary tasting glass. You were lead from room to room learning how their beers were brewed (interesting fact they pump the beer across the street underground to complete some of the brewing process). They provided samples in each room that were paired with food from their pub across the street. The Widmer Hefewiezen is a staple of Oregon summers. It isn't summer until you lay in the sun and drink a hefe with a lemon.
Pork Shoulder = absolute basura... (that is Trash or garbage in Spanish if you didn't know). poorly cooked and bland. the potatoes with it? Also no great. Bread was decent but with the under cooked meat overwhelming the food, didn't even get close to finishing it. $12..... Should have eaten the chili in the fridge that gave me heart burn...
Other than that, Great place. and ok beer
I had the Berry Lime Crowler. Ooh so good and healthy. I then ordered the Lamb Burger with the German potato salad, what a scrumptious Saturday evening at Widmer Beer Garden. Thank you for your love for more than good beer, the best.
Great service and great cheese burger they call Pub Burger. The potato salad I remember was delicious but tonight it had way to much relish in it that made it gross.
Always a great event space. I'm here every month for a group meeting and I'm always happy with the facilities and the staff.
We went into the restaurant to eat tonight. The first thing we didn't like is that they no longer have a full bar and the lights are too bright and glaring. The food was decent but not great. We put our cash into the payment wallet the waiter left but he wasn't around when we were ready to leave, so we handed it to a different waiter who said she would give it to him. We were just pulling away from our parking place and he came running out asking where the payment was! If we were going to stiff him, we would leave the payment wallet empty on the table. Where did he think it was? We have gone there a number of times over the years but NEVER again!
Place is nice, overlooking the bridge and water. Ambience is great!
Inside dining is always a little too loud, but the food is better than most breweries and the beer selection is great. The menu changes frequently and the outside seating is great in the summer.
I used to love this place, It was a great restaurant. Now they have no food no tableside service and limited hours. I won t ever be back. So disappointing.
Had the turkey wrap with the German potato salad, the turkey was dry, but the potato salad was great. Great service,
Very pleasant atmosphere with a great selection of beers....
I think they could do better. Also not encourage their employees to drink and drive.
Burger was legit and the Duck was out of this world. Beer was pretty dam good too
Nice tour, nice pub, enjoyed the beer tasting after the tour
Retail store with to-go beer only. Tours at 3pm; don t be late! Wish I d been able to visit while this was still operational.
I'm also a fan of Widmer beers. This place is nice because it's a little bit different - there's some traditional German food on the menu and usually some hard to get beers. Downside is that it's out of the way and it can get busy.
This place used to be great. The pretzel is one of the frozen kinds not the home made ones anymore. Still have a great beer.
My daughter and I have been coming here for years before Winterhawks games and has been a staple 30+ times per season. Over the last year or so they have really paired down the menu and gotten rid of some of their best fare. The remodel has left the front bar area extremely loud, and the prices have surged 30+ percent or more on food. The beer cheese soup is still second to none, and the beer is great, unfortunately it's not enough to make it our full time pre-game staple anymore.
Great brewery. They had 26 beers on tap. The tacos were amazing and the burger looked great. They do allow minors but don't cater to kids. There are tvs and a shuffle board. We'll defiantly be back
The place was really loud, the temperature was too cold, and they no longer have a full food menu. The only food they have are some chip and dip options. I will not return unless they offer more food options.
Pub food with a german flair. They don't have a deep frier, which is awesome!
The best beer in town, service can be a bit sklow because they tend to be very very busy, but they are always friendly and the food is good!
Good food, and a lot of beers you won't find on your grocery shelf.
This is a production brewery with a shop that sells merchandise, cases, and kegs of beer. There is no restaurant or tasting room.
I recently went here for a charity event, Widmer was generously donating the proceeds from beer purchases that evening to a local charity. They have $3 pints on their tasty Hefe and a huge selection of beers! The bartenders were nice and the bar was pretty lively for a Tuesday afternoon.
Food was excellent, prices reasonable, beer was great as usual. We had our out-of-town friend with us and the manager opened the gift shop, so we could buy t-shirts -- above and beyond service thanks to Ira!!!
fondue sausage with pickled red onions is out of this world. Pairs phenomenally well with their farcical brew.
Excellent selection of beer, good food, and fun atmosphere. A must visit if you're from out of town.
Came here for their burger week special and the burgers were delicious. Their hefe beer was also delectable! Service and atmosphere was top notch.
The Tap room has shut down and there is no on site consuming permitted. A small retail store is on-site for beer to go and other craft beer related items
One of the city's staple breweries. The restaurant is across the street from the brewery. Great place to hang out and a grab a couple cold ones. I absolutely loved the hefewiezen. My favorite beer I tried while in Portland. The food is also yummy.
This is probably one of the most popular breweries in the country since many people have had their Hef. Their beef is amazing and so is the selection. This review goes strictly for their brews. I have not had a chance to try their food.
Way to go Widmer Brothers!!! Got to love a good Happy Hour. Nothing beats a pretzel and a Awsome beer. Try their seasonal selection as you never know what they are going to come up with. Staff is great and will help if your new to matching beer with you food selection. You wine drinkers should understand. :) Take the tour cash in on your free beer at the end and I dare you to try and leave with out trying a nother.
loves this place especially when they have the fun specials good place for food and some friendly company.
We had a big group and they gave us great service for lunch. The Cobb Salad and Smoked Salmon Sandwich were really good. Hefe Berry Lime Beer so good on a super hot day!
With an extensive beer list and delicious pub food I was a happy camper. I greatly enjoyed my chicken wings at a happy hour discount. I just wish they had fries.
Really good food with recommendations of pairings with their beers which are always solid makes this place a good visit. It also makes driving over the Fremont Bridge an aromatic experience of delicious hop smells.
I had a really good evening here, good food and drink
Large pub with plenty of seating. Excellent sandwiches and great beer.
Outstanding service with an incredible rotating tap selection. I had the gose flight and, even though I'm not typically a gose fan, I loved it. Definitely try the tomatillo y pepino gose, it's a life changer
Heather took great care of us! A bunch of out of towners.....she steered us in the right direction.
There is no taproom here anymore. They closed it early this year. It is only to go beers now. No food. No beer.
I've only been here the past couple of years for Burger Week and was really "meh" about the deal each time. It's not bad, just... meh. Meh's not a bad thing, y'know. It was good, but... sheesh, I don't know. Can't put my finger on it. I'd eat here next year.
a good place for groups, the food is not the best tho
Love this place. However during the weekend food options are limited. I am not sure is just the weekends
Beer was actually pretty decently priced, but food although good- not really worth what we paid .. Im my opinion.
Great food, great service. My burger was so good and the potatoe salad was the best I ever had. Don't go there on a warm day. Their A/C sucks. Come on guys, get some real A/C.
The food is great. This place is a true brewhouse. Tons of experimental beers to look forward to along with the trusted Hef. Even the Hefewizen tastes better here: so fresh. Take the tour- great (non)tourist activity!!
