A fantastically picturesque working reed fen just outside Cambridge. Has a lovely boardwalk and many bird hides. At present NT have roped off the picnic area at the back of the cafe. Also be aware you need a mask or face covering to go through the visitors centre (autumn 2020) to get to the board walk and you need to book for that. The rest of the fen walks and cycle ways are open and do not need booking.

Wicken Fen is a wonderful place to visit, with so much wildlife and picturesque walks. On my last visit, I was so fortunate to find the wild horses. Many of the mares were pregnant too.

Absolutely beautiful, cafe was open for people to eat outside, no problem socially distancing. Easy to access for wheelchairs. No dog's allowed on the boardwalk, but plenty of other places to take your dog for a nice long walk. You can cycle around large parts of the area, there's even a bike hire shop next to the visitor centre. And the public toilets are open and easily accessible.

The landscape here is quite unique as it has preserved lots of the fenland that surrounds it. The internal boardwalk and way-marked woodland walk is short and accessible but those wanting a longer walk can use the surrounding paths from the same car park. I'd recommend the adventurers trail which, while we were there, had interesting facts posted along the route and, given its the fens, was flat and easy going terrain.

This is a small piece of ancient fenland which shows what it was like before most of the land was drained for agriculture. Plenty of well-maintained and of course mostly flat footpaths. The woodland walk needs to be booked ahead at the moment due to limited space. Cafe is doing takeaways - great hot chocolate with marshmallows. Go soon (mid-April now) to hear cuckoos. Many other summer visiting birds already arrived: saw my first swallow of the year.
