Get an Outer Room to View the Street - Importante :)
I was concerned from what I read about the language barrier when we arrived at the hotel.

Pierpaolo was our first point of contact after the cab dropped us off.

BTW - a couple of things. Make sure the cab is using the meter - you can verify by asking how much to: ________________! If they say it depends on the meter, you should be good to go.

Pierpaolo spoke great English and took care of us by offering us a discounted breakfast - which was wonderful.

Duing our time at this hotel, which was 16 Days, We encountered Chef's Emilio, Roberta, Giovanna - Excellent service and they all took time to provide for us that "extra" touch when it came to the breakfast - recommend to all!

Riccardo was extremely helpful when we had a minor issue in our room that needed remedy.

Antonio, Stephano, Deniele and Fabrizio took great care us of from the kitchen and made sure we felt at home while dining in Italy!

The bar staff were excellent and our latest contact Georgio - he was one of the top contenders for the MacIvor Travel Excellence Award!

Fantastic client service.

Our original room had a broken A/C, but they quickly gave us a different room that seemed like an upgrade, true hotel fashion, the mini bar was overpriced like the room service menu, HOWEVER to their credit the food was very good. The location is within walking distance of many hotspots around town, including walking distance to the train station.

Grand building and impressive lobby area but dated and well worn interior. Rooms are a throw back to the 80s and bathrooms are in need of being replaced. Inside was more like a 3 star than 5 star. Not having an ironing board is a tell tale sign the hotel is not keeping up with the ages. Disappointed with room service too. Called for night menu and it seemed not much was available. Service was passive. Never got a smile anywhere. If this was a 3 or 4 star it would have got a 5 4 rating but gets 3 because it is supposed to be 5 star with 5 star prices and so expectations go up.

I have been to The Westin Excelsior, Rome several times on business and I have to say that I enjoyed it very much. The rooms are very cozy and sleeping in a Heavenly Bed is absolutely fantastic. I love their Wellness philosophy very much. At breakfast there are many Superfoods products and I love their Gear Landing program, for only 5 euros they provide you with running shoes and sportswear so you can run freely even on the go without having to worry about packing yours. They even have a swimming pool with a jacuzzi; not very big but ideal to relax a bit. They have recently renovated the bar where they serve excellent fresh fruit juices and have a corner dedicated to Grom ice cream. The environment is pleasant especially during the beautiful days where you can stay outdoors along the Via Vittorio Veneto. The staff are very professional and friendly. I highly recommend it!

This hotel is to Old for 5 star rating, the shower water is small, the toilet water also small & only work once, i have to wait for atleast 15 minutes for another flush. Though the location is great. Glad to know that the owner is planning to totally renovating it, but my stay experience is not pleasant. Another thing, during 2 days of breakfast, nobody serving tea/coffee, luckly on the 3 days they start offering tea/ coffee.

My friend and I's visit to Rome was ruined by this horrific stay. Both the receptionist and the concierge were cold, rude and aggressive. We were not made to feel welcome at all; restaurant recommendations were sub-par; key tourist attractions were not helpfully advised. The trainee Elisabetta at the concierge was the worst hotel staff that I have ever encountered.

The room is a whole other story. The fly buzzing around in the room was a sign of poor hygiene; the carpet was filthy; there were a lack of amenities; concierge never answered the phone. After speaking to the General Manager about our issues, he was unsympathetic and did not offer us any compensation: an example of poor professionalism.

My advice to you is to choose another hotel. The Westin is not worth 3 stars, let alone its current 5, which appear to me a transfigurative miracle. If you wish to enjoy Rome, please choose an alternative.

Lovely grand building. Clean. Breakfast was good.
Room was a little dated for a 5 star hotel. Lacked usb charge points. Our rooms heated towel rack was inoperative. Staff on checkout were extremely rude and double charged our accommodation, which took a full week for the funds to be reimbursed. Total lack of respect

Absolutely perfect hotel. Staff was VERY friendly and VERY helpful. Always greeted with a smile! Room we stayed in was huge. It was clean and comfortable. Hotel was in a decent location. Breakfast was a little pricey but worth it. Plus with the 50% off coupon it wasn't too bad. Would definitely go back again!

Outdated. Service is good but the rooms are old. The pool and the whirlpool for some strange law in Rome are cold, couldn't really enjoy it. The bar service is great and atentive. Expensive drinks but because of the quality, fair price. They had live music on a Thursday evening until 00:00 really nice touch. The location is absolutely excelent, walked the whole Rome from there and 20 min by metro to the Vatican. The concierge were polite and helpful. With a renew of their rooms this hotel will be back on their tracks.

5 star hotel, international brand, is not cheap to stay there but feels like a run down MOTEL!! Don t be fooled by the grand lobby once you get to the room it needs a total renovation and new furnitures.

Here is a list of some of the issue... The TV is old, some furnitures are broken, lots of the electric circuit was not functional, the aircon was hot and making loud sounds, the carpet dirty, towels had stains, the walls were covered with materials and had many stains and also dusty, curtain was dusty. OVERALL POOR MAINTENANCE.

This hotel is deff not recommend for people who have allergies to dust... prepare your zrytec!

We did not bother requesting to change room since we had booked 2 rooms and both were pretty much in the same condition...

One good thing about the place was location and that is all...

Had to stay there for 5 nights, thankfully after not being able to rest and sleep properly, we called our local tour agent and they inform us, we can cancel 1 of our 2 rooms 24 hours beforehand. Lucky for me I only stayed 3 out of 5 nights and the remainder of the 2 nights we moved to much better neighbouring hotel... it was cheaper, bigger, cleaner and much modern... Unfortunately my parents had to endure 5 nights there and to top it off on the last day the fire alarm went off at 4am...

Worse Westin Hotel i ve been to!

Ok, where to start about this place? First, the positive, the location is great and the historic building is beautiful, I'll admit that and it's gets more than one star as a consequence.

The rest however is really not great and so disappointing in what should be a flagship European Westin property.

The rooms are struggling to reach 'ok', a little tired and we had a big stain on the wall to wake up to. Also the curtains don't close completely, which sounds insignificant but when you are close to midsummer your two year old will notice the sun coming up at 6am for you. The bathroom is big and has lovely marble everywhere but the shower is not up to Westin, 'rain fall' standards and is more akin to a 60yo man with prostate problems.

The service is disappointing also, pretty much any question or request I had was a grave distraction from the other more important work that the staff had. I'm so so sorry.

Breakfast also was just chaos, usually it's my favourite part of a weekend break, the long leisurely buffet where you fill up for the day, not so much the case here. It started badly as we got seated in a small adjacent room rather than the main dining room, presumably because of the aforementioned two year old, but also presumably its easier to forget guests in that room.

I was told that I had to stand in the omelette line to order eggs, where one poor guy was struggling to to make eggs on one hob for seemingly the whole dining room. The line was five deep when I joined it and I was fourth when I left it, without eggs, 15 minutes later. Other waiters were interjecting at the front of the line with egg orders for other tables which presumably is a perk reserved for 'main dining room' guests which meant that waiting in line is a sisyphean task.

I give up on eggs and go for pancakes... no pancakes, well it happens I guess... I ask a member of staff if there was more coming (mainly to let them know that they were out as much as anything) and again, having interrupted something far more important, I was told "yes yes yes, they're coming".... I waited five minutes next to an empty pancake dish. And left.

I had toast and cereal for my breakfast. The cereal was fine.

This may seem like a ranty review, and it may be a little, but I am genuinely so disappointed with the Westin Excelsior. Furthermore, I'm top tier status at starwood, which I mention not to expect better than others (if I did, I worry about the others) but merely to note that I have a lot of comparators to benchmark against. This weekend in Rome is fun, but the starwood experience is not helping that.

Upon check-in to this stunning, old world ambience filled hotel was the most pleasant of experiences. Desk clerks, to Bell Hops to Doormen, All were gracious and friendly. If asked a question, answers were detailed and English was excellent! There was no area of the hotel that was lacking. The restaurant staff was also right up there in class, grace and pleasantness. It s central location to most of the sites I wished to see made walking the way to go!
Definitely would stay there again if in Rome.

This is a beautiful old world hotel on what once was a famous street in Rome. The hotel would get a 5 star but I could never get the hot water to stop fluctuating from cold back to hot...I stayed 6 nights and not once did I have consistent hot water...a small price to pay, the hotel is old but has been updated to modern standards and the food is great. Also the service was always good and the staff was always nice.

Only one other downfall, the club behind the hotel starts at midnight and plays loud music all night long...I was out all night long so it didn't bother me but it did wake me up on the one night I went to bed early.

Yes BUT. Sleeping rooms are big. Location is good. Just highly disappointed that they do not provide iron to the guests. We travel for business, so we need to be impeccable and they force us to pay their press service. Not customer centric especially for a Westin

Be cautious booking a stay here if you are going through a discount vacation site like hotwire or expedia. The hotel might throw you in a dirty room that hasn't been renovated; this has happened to numerous guests who have stayed at Excelsior.

Customer service is non existent.

Customer service is non existent.

I recently received a form letter from the manager of the Westin Excelsior, Rome. It offered little in the way of satisfaction.

Mr. Marc Lannoy, if you want to make it up to me, please refund the nearly 250 euros we paid for our breakfasts. It should have been complimentary due to titanium status! I know there is latitude.

One of the most famous hotels in Rome, located in the center of perhaps the most famous street in the world of the "Eternal City", Via Veneto, which brings you back to the glories of the "dolce vita", so masterfully described in the homonymous film by Federico Fellini.
