Great zoo and size easy to get around in couple of hours.
A good place to relax on a sunny Wellington day. The red panda was quite cute, had a close encounter with the giraffe.
All the main viewing areas were closed. Go away COVID
Great day for the kids. Lovely coffee and gift shop.
Nice zoo. Built in the middle of the nature. Animals are happy and don't feel in cages.
Well I finally stopped to smell the roses... I took my son and we caught all the chats on each animal. The hosts were captivating and funny. I was surprised how close some of the animals got to us After many visits it was invigorating to be educated.
Always love the zoo. The talks are excellent and informative, the kids have a blast, and honestly us oldies enjoy learning a thing or two also!
It's a little small, but the interactive aspect made it very enjoyable, despite going to the San Diego Zoo frequently.
It was great. Hot day. But saw plenty of lovely happy animals. My fav the sun bear.
Was a nice trip but you need to go at certain times might pay to call a head to find out when the animals will show themselves lol
Very nice place.Wonderful, kind and friendly staff.A must see Wellington attraction.
I had close encounter with the 3 lionesses. It was an amazing experience and big thank you to keeper Amy., for making it a great experience for my granddaughter and I. We are coming back and having a close encounter with the meerkats. Can t wait.
Overall I loved the zoo.
A lot of recent development improving set out. Many educational sessions scattered throughout day
Went on a rainy day and many of the animals were keeping a low profile. But the kea aviary more than made up for it. It was special to see these beautiful birds up close. What a gem! Was also great to see the otters, giraffes and lemurs. The chimpanzee talk was excellent - nothing showy or obnoxious, just the friendly zookeeper explaining the social structure of the group while she fed them.
Wonderful school sleepover visit and zoo tour with Jacob... thanks so much for a great trip with our Otaki kura whanau.
Seeing the animals and birds so close by gets the kids all excited
A very nice zoo with lots of entertainment and lots of animals from New Zealand and Australia
A friendly time at the zoo. With lovely welcoming staff. A great time with awesome talks on the animals.
Very clean, well organized, had a lovely time walking through the Zoo. Spent about 3to 4 hours going through the entire zoo, kids played on the very well placed play areas. Saw all the animals but the best was probably the baby kangaroos.
A reflection of who's trapped,
To what extent
And what's really the meaning of freedom.
A lioness scaling up the city life....
All the way from Africa
She was born in 2001
And is Zhara for us.
10 dollars for 425ml of water and a small bottled juice. Zoo is good but the shop is bloody insane. Don't forget to take your own supplies. Cheapest fluid is a can for $3.50.
Wellington zoo is located in the heart of the city. Good variety of animals, shouldn t missed if you visit Wellington NZ.
Seeing rare animals like Kiwis, Tigers, red Pandas etc was a real fun.
Please remember this is a full day activity if you want to see every animal and their show time.
Have fun :)
Fun place for the family to go to and have a great day out.
I had an enjoyable day out with my family. It's always lovely to see the animals.
Great place for all to enjoy. A good assortment of food to pick from washed down with a tasty coffee.
Nice zoo, but on the day we went it was very windy.
It was a better than I thought experience. I can't compare to those famous Singapore Zoo. But this is the first time I was able to look at a Kiwi bird so closely. The kiwi exhibit is amazing. Others kids friendly zones are really informative and make the school trip very fun. The cafe choices doesn't seem enough but server was really friendly and nice.
Absolutely LOVED my visit! Spent ages watching the delightful otters and the magnificent lions.. even spotted a kiwi. I'm over from the UK am am definitely going back before I leave NZ. I've heard you can feed the lions! I'm in! Thank you for a amazing time.
Great place to visit with the kids. Nice walks and a relaxing environment. For the price not as many animals as other cities zoos and not a lot of places to get food. Still a great day out.
Zoo's are funny things, I'm often unsure of the worth of them. They take up a huge amount of inner city space in an age when people are really struggling to find homes. But a first trip to the zoo with a child is a singular experience
Wellington zoo is some what oddly shaped but the hill that it sits on really makes for a unique space that guides you a specific way. The animals seem happy and all look in good health and the zoo's commitment to seeing behind the scenes stuff (surgery, feeding, etc) is really fascinating.
So I don't like zoo's much, but I like seeing my kids smile and the cafe is lovely.
Lovely zoo. Very well done and beautiful environment.
My personal highlight was seeing the penguins being fed. I also enjoyed the sheep and farm stuff. If I was living in Wellington I would come back maybe once every two months.
No wild animals at present, Whoever are there very far to view
Had a great walk around Wellington Zoo. It has a great layout and lots of awesome animals to see. However, the orangutans looked so depressed & their covered indoor area looked like a jail cell.
Great place for the young and the old. Recommend going early to have time to attend the sessions and highly recommend going behind the scenes to have the animal encounter. Ideally it takes about 2 1/2 hours to walk through. Add extra time for sessions and animal encounters. The food is overpriced however you can bring in your own picnic basket. There is parking available on site.
I went to this zoo just before dusk, which was perfect. Many of the big cats were up and about, which meant you could see them up close. I love the layout in the hills that allows you to make a loop and see all the animals as well as a great view. A very good value!
If you've not been before, it is quite steep in places and little legs can get tired so prams or carriers recommended. The staff were all great and good talks about animals
Lovely zoo, lots of up and downs so a bit exhausting for kids, pushchair recommended
Lots of photo opportunity and some great advice from the staff about wildlife conservation.
Great experience. Coming from chch was a lot nicer than orana park. More animals and tidier
It's a small place with very few animals and you would find most of the kepts empty.. and tickets are too pricey
A place for learning...great informative helpful staff...very nature and wildlife friendly...impressed. .thank you
Love going here. It is never boring. The kiwi enclosure is so well done. Great for a day out. A good size zoo
Fun zoo and some great displays. Could be a bit challenging for some to walk with lots of incline, and the penguins never came out :(
Love this zoo, as always you cant beat wellington on a good day. If you have some smaller kids in a pram make sure your prepared. The zoo is built on a good sized hill, this adds to the experience.
Great compact zoo with interesting animals. My family and I love it and go pretty regularly.
Was here a month ago for a Team building activity that the Zoo ran for us. Absolutely fabulous! Friendly staff and a really enjoyable zoo.
Wouldn't let us in to do encounter we had already paid for. Gave us free tickets as compensation so will change my review if the service changes on our return
Lovely place but we didnt see the loins n tiger as we were to later for feeding , this to phone up and see what tired the feeding is going on if you want to see the good animals that's a lovely place for a family
Exhausting to get to see everything as it's on a steep hill at points really hard to push a pram or run after kids unless you are quite fit
Lovely place to spend time un Wellington. Half a day is enough time to favtor in. Quite a steep climb. Lovely animals and view over the city. Friendly staff. Cute cafe. Also very thoughtfull layout and landscaping. Highly recommended.
Love this zoo, we have membership passes. The cafe in the zoo is awful tho so bring food from home
A wonderful experience! A beautiful setting for a zoo. We reserved what's called, "A close encounter", with the meerkats. What a great experience to be able to sit with 8 to 10 meerkats, as they climb into you lap and eat some treats. Many different close encounters are available to reserve. The animals are very well kept, and in kept and clean enclosures. The staff was extremely friendly. It's a small zoo, but the setting makes it all worth it. Next time we come back to New Zealand, we are going back for another "close encounter" experience.
We had a lovely time. Parking is always a challenge but worth the effort. Talks by the keepers are excellent.
A lovely zoo with helpful staff, including really cool keeper talks! It did seem like the zoo was due for a bit of a reno, and I would personally like more information and signs to read on the different animals. Kiwi exhibit was amazing!
Wonderful small zoo. Only problem is some of pathways are very steep uphill climbs, probably not good for seniors or others who might have trouble walking. But they DO provide a map of where paths are steep. They also might consider offering guided tram tours for those who might prefer to ride. Many other zoos in the world (and several National Parks in the USA) do this, and I presume this is a profitable venture. Otherwise, animals seem well cared for; enclosures are clean and well-kept, and signage is well-designed and easy to read and understand.
Just did the Capybara close encounter and it was brilliant!
Amazed and surprised how we found Sun bear which were brought from Cambodia in this little zoo. It is great for family and kids. So many educational signs and indications.
Visitor from out of town and really liked the zoo, they really do seem to care about the environment the animals are in. Lots of fun stuff for the kids and great to see integration with other local environmental organisations along with educational material for all ages. I look forward to coming back again when next in town.
