Waterloo is the best record store in Austin, it almost always has the CD's and vinyls I am looking for. It's pretty trendy store and has music you wouldn't even think it to have. They have little indie bands that you usually would have to look online for. I'm very glad this tore exists in Austin and if you have not been I would definitely recommend it.

Sorry for bad review left earlier! My phone has a bad case of turning on in your back pocket, and it accidentally left that review. I love the store! Got an epic kazoo that was put to good use annoying my friends!

An absolute staple to the Austin community. Weekly free concerts in the store, a GIANT vinyl collection to get lost shopping in, and overall great vibe. If you're aimlessly walking in and you're not sure what to buy for new music - ask the people who work there, their taste is impeccable.

Waterloo Records carrie's new, used, and recycled records, tapes, vinyl, CD's. Fun and funny gift ideas of all sorts chachkies and dust catchers. An eclectic staff of cyclical people that switch out with some regularity and some are lifers. It's a venue when we have shows in townand particularly for South by Southwest it always has something going. The likes of Elvis Costello have been seen frequent thing there with some regularity. And people have had stories because of him showing with some regularity. Like him taking them to lunch so I've heard. Anyway you can't beat it. It's got great stuff good selection, cool stuff did I say great stuff as well. Anyway you will not leave disappointed. PROMISE !

I had never boughten a record player before so I went to get more information on them and also see what was recommended. Unfortunately the woman I talked with talked down to me in almost a condescending way. It made the process feel very awkward and honestly made me feel stupid. The only thing that made the visit better was the awesome staff at the registers who were very welcoming. I'm not exactly sure I would return here again though due to the floor salesmen.

I'm a very passionate vinyl enthustiast and I enjoy spending many hours inside the record store flipping for good finds... I have a list of albums that I am always on the look for, and on occasions I will call around the few local shops to see if any are in stock...

Today I called three places before calling Waterloo, (just because it is a bit far of a drive for me), and not only did they have what I needed, but the customer service I received was phenomenal!

When I called a Mr. Michael Flowers answered the phone... He not only went to personally check to look for my requested items, but he offered to put what he did have in stock on hold for me, and whatever he didn't have he placed an order just for! He did this all without sounding like it was a hassle for him, or that he could he doing something better with his time...

Mr. Flowers... thank you from the bottom of my heart for brightening my day. You are a true gem, and have easily made Waterloo my new FIRST music purchasing destination.

This is one of those businesses that is just synonymous with Austin. They pride themselves on carrying the mainstream and modern AND the old and esoteric. I get the sense that the staff knows more about music than I ever will. On my first visit, I was under the impression that this is a largely hipster hangout, but it's really just a "good music" hangout. You will find people of all types hunting for records, CDs, DVDs, etc. The parking is usually a problem, but you will find gems here you didn't think possible.

Waterloo! Brought my kids in to give them a taste of an Austin institution and introduce them to a) record stores in general and b) the best indy record store in the nation. They're still doing it right at Waterloo from cds to vinyl and all the tchochkies to go with it.

Nice selection of vinyl.

Nice selection of vinyl.

Edit: I got into Saxon Sound System. This is a reggae and rap influenced group of several musicians from the 70s and 80s that is pretty obscure to most people.

I asked if they had anything after looking a while expecting that empty retail expression that you get when you ask an underpaid worker something he neither knows or care about.
Instead imediately guy says "we put that in reggae dancehall. Some people call it that."

Most of what I wanted and a lot of what I search for online was right there. I was so greatful the salesperson seemed a little embarrassed.

This place is amazing. Every experience I have had there since has been pretty much the same.

I am writing this now awhile after this happened because places are closing because of the pandemic. I don't even know the current store hours, but I hope their okay ( along with there amazing sales staff ) I hope we don't lose places like this. The are not easily replicated.

Waterloo Records is a true wonder. They had several records I had been looking for for a about 1-2 years, all at an amazing price point. I bough several records for about 20 dollars that would've been over 100 if I had bought them on eBay. I loved it!

Awesome record store! Didn t have nearly as much time to browse like I wanted, but they had exactly what I needed when no one else did, and cheaper than what I could get online. Staff was helpful and friendly and spent some time happily chatting and joking with customers and co workers alike. The kind of banter that happens when you are happy in what you are doing and want to share that happiness. Truly a great place to be, and a very happy vibe!

An iconic Austin spot. Great music shop with all types music. The place has a very cool vibe, maybe because of the music? They also have in store performances which you don't have to pay for.

There's a lot to see- and the cd's are setup in a way that's easy to find things you might be looking for...
However, if you're looking for dvd's they're all just sort of thrown in there with no genres- which for me, is overwhelming. I prefer the way it used to be, which made it easier to find things I was looking for.
The vinyl section has some good stuff in the used section, and I believe there's a day that it's discounted- so look out for that.

Fantastic vinyl store. Lots of CDs and pop vinyls along with knick knacks! Great and friendly staff. Music always playing on records. Cassettes also for sale. Great rock, punk, hip hop, soundtrack vinyl sections. Lots of used also! Lots of newer pressed albums. $1 and clearance CD section. Movie and tv shows also! Fun place with a little indoor stage. Parking can be tough at times. Tuesday night discounts across vinyls!

thanks

Waterloo Records is one of those unique Austin icons. I love their never ending variety of music and videos. I love their frequent e-mail newsletters updating me on upcoming releases. I love their free in-store live performances of great bands. I love their in-store listening parties with free pizza provided by Austin's Pizza. I love their knowledgeable and helpful staff. I love their autograph signing tents at music festivals. I love their small limited parking lot and am surprised that I can still find a spot. I love their love for Bob Schneider and Willie Nelson.

Decent organization, good atmosphere, but prices are a bit steep for some things almost to the point where you're better off maybe not going. Despite that, perhaps some of the used bins are worth the search through. As for new stuff maybe rethink that.
