It was rad! Great prices and a wide selection of music. Also I was in for a total throwback when I saw the listening stations (something I thought no one did anymore)! Will visit again on my next trip to Austin.

Edit 12/31/19: Just fixed a grammar mistake!

Nothing says Keep Austin Weird better than Waterloo Records. check out their website for live instore performances and signings. I love it because they are open late on the weekends when you just want to get out of the house and stroll around downtown without all the partying!!!! Love it!!

What an excellent record store. They have so many choices of music, I was surprised how much they had. The staff helped me pick out an awesome album for a friend. They are well informed and very friendly.

A huge variety, if you re looking for something there s a good chance you ll be able to find it here. A little bit expensive but worth it for the collection and atmosphere, a truly Austin business that supports locks musicians and festivals.

Large selection of CDs, LPs, tapes, DVD, VHS, and more media. You can also special order media if they don't have it in stock. Prices for LPs are average, maybe a little high for used stuff.

What a fun and quirky little record shop that is totally representative of Austin!

They have an amazing selection of not only CDs but vinyls as well (I have found some pretty cool rare and vintage vinyls here) and they even carry books and other music memorabilia.

The staff here can be very hit of miss...they can be extremely helpful and passionate about making recommendations or finding whatever you are looking for or they can be very "disenfranchised youth" who can't be bothered because they are just "that cool".

But, as far as the store goes, I honestly love to just come and browse through selections old and new and peruse the funny odd ball merch sections.

For local or tourist alike, this is a great record shop to check out in downtown Austin!

Great selection of records and local! My big downside is that I wanted to drop by and grab a record, but they're closed to the public and by appointment only. (This is not communicated well at all). Appointments can be made up to a week out and are 30 minute slots. This is annoying because my shop would take less than 2 min, but I would effectively block someone out of shopping for the remaining 28 min. Other shops seem to be doing fine with limited entry. I ended up just ordering the record from another store because of this. They have curbside pickup 11-7, but sometimes you just want to explore the music!

I'm not sure whether the market for vinyl has simply gone off the rails the last 5 years, or if the real estate is simply ultra expensive, but you aren't gonna find many $0.99 records here. Wildly expensive, catering to the just bought a turntable yuppie crowd. Plenty of sealed, new $40+ records available. Limited selection of older stuff and what they do have is crazy expensive. They do have a great selection of new music on vinyl, plus CDs, so I'll throw in a star for that. But if they really cared about making a diverse range of new and old tunes physically available, maybe they'd move to a cheaper location than right in the heart of ultra desirable Austin central business district real estate. But hey, if you lost your cleaning brush and don't wanna give Jeff Bezos $15, you can go here and spend $25 and be out the door and back in front of your hifi within the hour.

I really like Waterloo Records, tho' the pricing here can be a bit much for music buying. I've been to stores in Austin that have much cheaper prices for buying music than this place. The selection here, however, is gigantic.

Waterloo is one of the few remaining record stores in the country. Everytime I go there, it is like stepping back in time to when I use to by records. They have a great selection of records and discs. One of my favorite things about Waterloo, is their in-store performances. You can get up close and personal with the artist in an unplugged performance. You can usually get your album or CD signed as well. I always enoy their free SXSW performances and their autograph sessions at ACL. They also sell concert tickets and pop culture items. If you are a music lover, I suggest checking out Waterloo.

Great spot for movies/music/records new and used, and memorabilia. Need that hard to find artist you can't get enough of? They got it. Added bonus of free sets by artists traveling through town, check website for schedule.

Friendly atmosphere. Fair prices. They have bands come in on the weekends and they provide free beer! Not too bad in my opinion. Vast collection too. Picked up a Time Waits poster. Definitely would check out

I would've put 5 stars without a doubt because I had nothing but positive experiences in the store...except for the fact that they've sold me multiple bootlegs, "unofficial copies", or whatever else they're called without stipulating otherwise. When I called to investigate I was told the records, which I purchased, were pressings from Europe and were above board...except for the fact that the music label didn't release them...which then makes them bootlegs or "unofficial releases" because the person or people pressing the vinyl didn't have any affiliation with the record label from where the music originated. When I asked more specific questions about the bootlegs, the answers which were given to me from the manager was her passing the buck to the vendor who stocks their racks...and to contact him. How can a record store such as this, with a beautiful history and reputation, make a HUGE mistake. The bootlegs I bought, without knowledge of them being so, were from various trips there, which means they've sold me bootlegs on multiple occasions. A record store should know the product they're selling and Waterloo falls very short of that. I'll go back and spend enough money for the last hole on my punch card, but after that I won't be sending them my patronage again.

I haven't been in an actual record store in many, many years. MP3s and iTunes Music Store has all but shut down a majority of these once popular gems of our culture. Waterloo Records, backed by the Austinites that love it, keeps up this tradition but also maintains to stay relevant in the digital lifestyle we've all grown accustomed to.

The staff knows their music and always willing to help you find "that one song by that one band with the xylophone in it." Vintage rock and movie posters line the walls, music from all genres, DVD's and books, music-themed accessories (like a bag shaped like an 80s boombox), and of course the last shining treasure of music history: LP's.

The right half of the store is dedicated to vinyl where you can find new releases and rare/unique treasures you are doubtful to find anywhere else in Texas, possibly in the country. You can also sell your used CDs/Vinyl/DVD's here for a little more than you can get at some of the chain stores.

I only went in to see another piece of Austin culture, and ended up walking out with curse word refrigerator magnets and two posters: a Ralph Steadman Alice in Wonderland print and The Dude from The Big Lebowski done in the style of the Obama "Hope" poster.

Waterloo is essentially a candy shop for the music enthusiast. They provide a vast variety of quality releases from both mainstream and local musicians making this record store one of the absolute best.

More than your regular record store, Waterloo has novelty gifts, jewelry (which is actually really cute) and much more. I love to stop in here whenever I'm near it. There's also always great music (and most of it's free!).

We enjoy visiting Waterloo records. They have a large selection of vinyl but they could definitely do better and stock some lesser known bands like bob moses, flora cash, Frank ocean and syml. Parking spots are very small even for compact cars and the vinyl aisles get very crowded. Overall a cool place to look for music.
