Everyone complains about the pricing, which is expensive, but when your pet is in a life or death situation, they are there for you. Their staff is knowledgeable, friendly and were patient with all my questions. I don t believe my dog would be here without them.

I called last night to see if they could take a look at my Rabbit who has an injured leg. I was told no one would look at her, much less treat her, but they would be happy to discuss euthanasia. After going to Cornell, we have pain medication for her and are awaiting the Small Animal team there to look at her scans and let us know if her injury can be medically managed or if it will need surgery.
How heartless does a Veterinarian practice need to be when their first instinct is we ll be happy to put your beloved animal down rather that assess it? I will happily drive two hours to Ithaca instead of wasting a moment of my time calling this practice.
My fur baby Zeus was all bloody down both paws and around his mouth and nose. I was terrified about his injuries that they may have been to severe for his little 3 month old body. But the employees here were exceptional in their treatment of my kitten and myself. I couldn t stop crying because a few weeks ago I lost my beloved Faith to her sickness. But these people really helped me. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone.
Dr. Doobar was wonderful to work with. I have an old diabetic and blind hound dog mix that was a rescue so we know little about her needs and history. When problems presented themselves she saw her right away and kept me very well informed throughout the day. They were very transparent about expenses and I felt they were reasonable. I feel we're very lucky to have this resource in the community.
Having to do what's is right for your pet is one of the hardest things to do. The staff here is the best and Doctor Somalia is one of the most professional competent people you will ever meet.
That said, I will say that I did feel that there was a disconnect with regards to price. On one hand I really appreciated all the effort for informed consent with regards to billing, this was excellent. However how I was initially invoiced was opposite of the initial call price review, leading to some frustration I could have dealt without.
Thankfully upon discovery of this, the facility did in fact honor its previous price commitment and with the excellent interaction by Doctor Somalia I left extremely happy and relieved. Since price is so important I think this is an area that could be improved upon because really this is a high class top facility and everyone here has a Genuine Loving care for animals and this is very comforting and important. The added bonus was the sympathy card that arrived today with my pets Paw print. I want to thank all of you who helped me with Huxley, he will be missed but not forgotten and I wish all of you a safe and healthy 2021, Robert A.
This place is amazing. Our 4 year old boxer mix was shaking and wouldn't eat or drink. We had been taking him to some appointments at our local vet but couldn't figure out what was wrong. We brought him here and got a tentative diagnosis in two days and started treatment immediately. The entire staff was amazing with answering phone calls, sending us pictures, setting up Zoom calls, running procedures, giving him belly rubs... Doctors Koch, Murray, Palermo, and Carter gave him great medical care and listened to all of my questions and concerns during our phone calls. We would highly recommend bringing your pet here.
UPDATE: Our dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer back around Christmas and VSES has been treating him since. The pictures show him today versus after his diagnosis in December. We never thought he would be doing so well. He's in remission for now and back to his starting weight and his usual hyper self. We are eternally grateful to VSES.
Due to a life threatening thyroid condition, my dog Howdy had to undergo surgery at the Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Service. Dr. Raymond Hoffmann and his staff successfully performed the surgery on Feb 23, 2021 and Howdy stayed there a couple of days in ICU. Thanks to these wonderful professionals, Howdy is home and healthy. During this whole process the people at Vet Spec and Emerg Serv were very supportive and informative. Thank you to all!
UPDATE - I received a call this morning regarding my review below. It seems that I was given incorrect information when I called about Henry's incision opening back up - I would have been able to go back and have his wound looked at for no additional charge and if determined it was their fault for taking the stitches out too early, then I would not have been charged anything. Jenna apologized for the mistake and to make it right they reimbursed me for the amount that I had to pay my regular vet to get Henry fixed up. I truly appreciate that Jenna followed up with me and made this right. Jenna assured me that they would be making sure the staff member who gave me the incorrect information was made aware of their mistake so that this does not happen to someone else in the future. Thank you for handling this is such a professional manner. ORIGINAL POST: My whippet Henry ripped his side open on a Sunday and I took him to animal emergency. They did a good job of patching him up, I have no problem with that. My total was $911. I was told to bring him back in 10-14 days to have the stitches removed which I did. The next morning the wound had reopened. When I called them they said I could bring him there if I wanted, but that this would entail all new charges for whatever they had to do. This is outrageous - they are the experts and they decided he was ready to have the stitches removed but it turns out they were wrong. If it was something I had done I could understand it, but it was their mistake for not realizing it was too soon to remove the stitches and they should have fixed him up for no additional charges. I ended up taking him to my own vet and they took care of him, even giving me a discount because they felt bad for how we had been treated. They should stand by their work and if it turns out they made a misjudgment then they need to own up to it and make it right without charging me additional fees.
While home visiting family, my old boy, Niles, a Treeing Walker Coonhound, passed away in my arms laying with him in the back of my Jeep in the parking lot just moments after I pulled in. I know that there was nothing we could have done to save him - he was an old boy who had a very full and happy life. The staff (four young ladies) and their tenderness that I encountered in the moments afterward will stay with me for a long time. With all kindness, they delicately moved him onto the gurney and took him inside. I was allowed to sit with him in a private room to have a few moments with my boy to say goodbye. They covered him in a blanket and placed one under his head and left me to my privacy with him. While interacting with them making arrangements they were so kind. I keep using that adjective but I mean it. I was alone and away from home and my dog had just gone to peace and I was in pieces. I could not possibly ask for a better group of people to be socially distanced from in that moment. I was a mess and beside myself but they treated Niles and I with such respect and kindness in every regard and for that I will be forever grateful. They arranged the cremation and had him sent back to me in Virginia in the most beautiful carved wooden box and a plaster paw print. I wouldn t wish what happened on anyone but it did and I m glad it was there and with them. I know had he been in better shape upon arrival they d have done all that they could have. Thank you all. I can tell that you love what you do because I can see that you do it with your heart. Yeah, super corny, but I said what I said.
My dog s health quickly deteriorated and I knew that it was his time to go. My usual vet couldn t fit him in their schedule, so I came here. The staff were wonderful and I was able to hold my dog Breccan while he passed away. I m so grateful to have been with him, as all the other vets I contacted would not let me be in the same room (due to COVID) which would have been heartbreaking for him and for me (he had extreme separation anxiety). Thank you for all your help!
