Attached to NYU medical, polite doctors, they change up allot so you never really see the same one over. They have your entire medical history for analysis, and the Chiefs are always on hand to help the newbie Dr's with diagnosis.

Had to bring my 88 year old dad there this week. The nurse in recovery was nice but not impressed overall. How nice we treat Vets who are going with family members to the wonderful parking they have there. 40 dollars to park across the street disgusting nice way to say thanks for your service

Very unpleasant experience.

Very unpleasant experience.
I was looking for low income housing for quite a while and seemed like it was not a priority for them.
A service that's supposed to serve us actually dumps you into outside non-profits such as "VetConnect". This among other "Veteran services" do nothing for you. We're just numbers to VA Harbor.

This v.a is pretty huge you will get lost easily..The staff here for the most part are friendly..it s like they actually enjoy going to work. They keep the bathrooms clean so that s always a plus when dealing with hospitals.

Fingerprints and Photos: For those looking for the V.I.P. office for fingerprints and photos, it is located on the 1st floor (not the 15th), room 1074s. Walk-ins are welcome, no appointment necessary (the office does not get notified of any appointments made online). Make sure to bring whatever necessary paperwork with you and the required ID(s).

From a recent experience the ER staff especially the Triage Nurse were amazing. As a Vet I have been to a few different VA Hospitals (Los Angeles, Hampton, DC, and Baltimore). The staff here were not only kind but also attentive and patient.

Also, the housing social workers on the 15th floor were very understanding and although they couldn t directly help me they gave me several potential leads to work on.

I'm amazed how hospitals have an absolute idiot answering the main switchboard. Please get the attendant some training and English diction lessons! She is an embarrassment to the hospital.

So far, the care here is good but getting appointments is a different story. Everytime you try to get an appointment its at least a month away :-( Olther than that the facility is fairly well kept and most of the health care professionals seem to care.

My father is a vet who uses this facility, and I have been there on several occasions. I am very impressed and appreciative with this VA!

Almost every doctor, nurse and staff I met is super courteous which is very important as a place to treat people s health. Kindness is lacking in so many places especially in the city. This VA actually gives me hope in humanity.

They always treat my father with kindness and generosity. One time I saw a woman patient having a panic attack, and the staff around her was so respectful and mindful of her situation. I was amazed!

It must be difficult treating difficult cases, but somehow they maintain kind and calm. I hope it stays this way. And thank you to all who work there!

I showed up at the ER with a complicated emergency. The nurses and doctors were very professional and thorough. Thanks for everything. Update.... The ER called me first thing the following morning to make sure I was doing better. I've used many veterans medical facilities and they could take a few lessons from this one

The securities need to be retrained. The security at the front desk asked me if they could see my ID (they were just hanging out in the lobby area). I showed them my state ID that clearly says I am a Veteran. Then they go "That means nothing. You are not a veteran and you need to get out." Just because I am a female/Asian, that does NOT mean that I didn't serve my country. When I argued that I haven't received my VA ID card in mail yet, they still tried to kicked me out. Apparently they are NOT trained properly to guard this facility. Very unprofessional!

Otherwise I am satisfied with the medical care I received.

Only 4 stars because rarely is ANYTHING a 5..but was well cared for as I found myself with a kidney infection while on a trip to NYC, was very sick. Staff and Dr (Nolan?) was VERY kind and took time to explain things and didnt let me leave until I felt better (I was there 6 hours). The VA in general usually gets a bad rap but ive been in the system since 1990 and have ALWAYS had very good care.
Kudos to all of you who take care of vets.

The worst experience in my life. I am now one hour trying to get my husband s health care provider Dr. Reilley, at the NY 23rd St location I am being disconnected 5 times. Put on hole for ever to be disconnected again. If Martina is still the Administrator she needs help.

I commute from Far Eastern Queens to this VA & the staff is friendly and always been taken care of on time. Although, I think this VA needs to hire more pharmacists. That long line is overwhelming and only 1 booth open.

Have never been here without a problem/mishap. Always come for an appointment and seen an hour later. Today they lost my labs. Employees are constantly just hanging out talking. I m not a retired veteran, I work. So to waste a whole day means I am not getting paid.

The Building is old and so is alot of the equipment. I had to visit the ER and I thought I walked into a time warp. The only thing the saves them is the care the the physicians provide. After visiting the location is Orlando and coming back here again makes it look like Asylum from American Horror Story.

I m a veteran who used Prosthetics, so that is what my review is for. My contact there is Ken, and he is skilled and kind in saving me the trouble of having to come into the facility. Ken will often mail me the items I need to keep walking and he sees me without an appointment most days I try. Five stars for prosthetics.

Walk in clinic is decent, but this VA can get really busy on a Friday, and it has a fair share of homeless trying to sleep in the bathrooms.

It has its problems but they are well managed.

My dad goes here he s been going here for years. There absolutely terrible !! He chooses to go here but there injecting him with things he had no idea what they even put in him.
For instance he has bad vision and they told him there going to put this needle in his eye because it s inflamed.... yet he has never brought home any paper work.

I wish I could upload his eye 3 days later, it s so red looks bloody but it s nit blood it s just red and looks very unappealing.
Please don t send your parents here guys or let your family get checked here.

I have never seen a veteran receive medical treatment at this facility. Instead, the NYU medical students who are responsible for treating veterans at the Manhattan VA, keep their patients sedated on dangerous prescription drugs. This facility directly supports the 22 veteran-deaths that take place every day.

In the ER ON Wednesday, 07/13/2016 @ 9:42pm waiting on the Dr. One nurse on Facebook, one is surfing the Internet, and the third is chilling on the computer too. I'm here in pain 8.5 on the pain chart told them kidneys feel like they are on fire and server groin pain and prostate problem and I'm told we can't don't anything for you til you see the dr. You can go over there and have a seat .

I would like to commend members of NYN PACT TEAM MH namely Mr. Kenneth Brereton RN for returning my phone messages quickly, and especially Ms. Deborah Plageman, NP MHBPC Nurse Practitioner. Ms. Plageman has been my primary care person for a number of years, and during that time she has been caring and diligent to my health needs. Recently, I've had a number of medical concerns to which Ms. Plageman had responded in a most professional matter. If the professionalism of Mr. Brereton and Ms. Plageman are examples of the Veterans Health System, then kudos for the VA.

I just received double bypass heart surgery. My experience went flawlessly from beginning till end. The staff was only seconds away at the push of a button. The nurse's were compassionate, professional and answered all questions I had along the way.

OMG this place is so much better having now been to other VAs. WTF is with other VAs. I went from 50% service connected to 100% and still got my combat title and pay with out talking about it. Other VAs are so bad I was looking for case manger Nurses. Purple Heart Foundation in the building.

Amongst the doctors, some have been there too long, having grown complacent, comfortable and insensitive. Committed to do only the bare minimum. Personally I have witnessed their willingness to perform agendas contrary to the mission of providing health care. Agreeing to bend and yield to those who are capable of adversely influencing the quality of their service. Causing the doctors to reverse their loyalty away from their patients. This behavior extended to some of the professionals lower on the echelon of employees of this VA hospital system which by the way, includes the Brooklyn VA. The new employees are too green, not providing the level of respect that the more senior veterans expect and deserve. The senior veterans are the core representation of patients.

I went to VA NY Harbor Healthcare today and was treated rudely by information desk and then medical files area. I was seeking information on my grandfather (deceased WWII vet) for which I had proof that I was next of kin (I also had documents from NPRC referring me to the VA for additional medical info they did not have), but the woman at the info desk told me I needed a POA which was false (needed only for third-party inquiries) and stated rudely that I wouldn't get any information without it. Then sent me down the hall to speak to another rude person who basically told me he didn't know where I would have to go to get my information but it wasn't there. For the record, no one wants to ever hear "AS I TOLD YOU!" when seeking help. Neither was any help or made any attempt other than to send me away. If employees there don't want to work with the public or even attempt to help them, then they should go look for a back-office job. Simply horrible.

Organized, rational, holistic and interconnected in ways that no other hospital I have been to is. The VA knows me as a totality, not as a series of unconnected specialities, each one hiding behind the smokescreen of patient confidentiality. My Rheumatologist at St. Lukes, treating me for gout, couldn't look at my cardiologist's records. It was drugs prescribed by cardiology that gave me gout.

Look up Carrano V Ballantyne. A guy with a finger fracture ended up dead a day after this guy got hold of him. Same Ballantyne is Chief of Surgery. He has had lots of jobs - Hackensack, L and M, Private Practice, VA in Augusta with Major Scandal and now NY Harbor. His secretary will say anything he tells her. So beware - You were Warned!

The dirtiest and most disgusting hospital that I have ever visited. I am a doctor and I have been to cleaner and better equipped hospitals in third world countries. This place is awful and the staff is incompetent and rude. I am an OEF and OIF veteran 2002-2008.

Best treatment . Respectful employees. Nothing like Northport. This VA is for veterans. Employees don't display same attitude towards vets as some other va hospitals. I received excellent treatment , THEY resolved a lot of issues Northport did not notice or simply cared so little they let it pass. Attitude is passed down. If leaders care employees care. Thank you Harbor e 23rd

I ve been a patient of this facility for more than eight years. The primary care doctor assigned to me, it's incredible, as well as my women's health team. My first complaint is about the use of NYU medical students to treat Veterans, and if they are going to do this, Veterans should have the option to see the house doctors at NYU or any other medical school that supports Veterans Hospital when appointments at the VA are not available. To the VA, treatments as a whole should re-evaluate the policy of covering IVF only to marry females.

I have been visiting for a few years for health care. Staff are polite, and experience in their medical field and administrative work. Will need to visit this facility again, since I don't qualify for the VA health center in Pennsylvania!

Veteran myself, just had a tonsillectomy here by a senior year residency student from NYU who was supervised. I will say this the building he VA is in and the rooms may look unassuming or even run down, but the surgery rooms are IMMACULATE. The doctor did a great job, theydo take forever as I had 10 infections in my tonsils before cutting them out (3 of them were my fault as I wanted to wait and see if it d resolve on its own) so I can t really blame them. It does take some time. But when my friend came to pick me up. He s gotten surgery at Bellevue and said the VA is much cleaner and the people are much more tentative.

I m originally from Los Angeles and the VA doctors there are terrible. Honestly for surgery I had a good experience!

The doctors are okay. I would say 90% or so of the administrative staff I've had to deal with here over the past 3 years are incredibly incompetent and seem generally unwilling to even try to do their jobs. This place needs serious fixing.

They dont even deserve the one star but they wouldn't let me comment otherwise. My Father died in the hospital March 21st 2017. He had triple bypass surgery. He died a few hours after he woke up from surgery. They didnt do testing on h beforehand because if they did they would have found the clot in his leg and two he told them I can't breathe and they said no its normal but he kept telling them he couldn't and they ignored him and he died. He was 54 Years old and and now his 11 month old grandson will never know him. They also put on his autopsy that he died from obesity I CALL BULLSHIT. IT WAS THE CARELESS CARE OF PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST THERE FOR THE MONEY AND THE TITLE. HE SERVED HIS COUNTRY AND WORKED FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR OVER 30 YEARS. HE DIDNT DESERVE TO DIE BUT THEY KILLED MY FATHER. I HOPE THOOSE NURSES AND DOCTORS CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT BECAISE MY FAMILY CANT.

Best around it's all about timing. But I feel they try hard and do care, if something is wrong they try and help, also if you feel they don't help you can talk to somebody in charge and things get fixed fast!

Major Surgery total knee replacement was Thursday ...

Major Surgery total knee replacement was Thursday March 7, 2019 released Friday March 8 2019.
Now here is my one night horror story
You can t make this stuff up operation went well actually walked the hallway with a walker 3 hours after recovery. Staff was great up until the night shift
A male nurse by the name of Noel complained all night about not having enough staff whenever I had needs he had a real attitude problem. He had to reset my IV machine around 10 times he told me the last time that his patience was at a breaking point. He blamed the dayshift for not putting the IV in properly and he basically reset it complaining the whole time. I take 19 medications a day my medications were not here thank God I bought my own. Around 12:45 AM I had to go to the bathroom. He had an attitude problem on unhooking me from my IV machine and the vibration mattress. I asked him if he could clean the toilet seat because the janitor all night kept using it from an adjacent room and he urinated on it. After it was finished a nurse was standing in the hallway she did not budge so I told her I do it myself. Then for 20 minutes afraid to contact the nurses station with the IV machine beeping I finally did and Noel told me he had an emergency he couldn t get to me. I heard him say in the background that the IV machine was a waste I didn t need the IV it s fighting infection really? Finally I told him I could do without the attitude and the complaining about being understaffed and he said well I I have been attentive to your needs all night seriously? Then he said if I want to make a complaint it would be good because then The hospital would do something about him being understaffed.
I was supposed to get Ice on my knee every 20 minutes good luck with that. Because of the progress that I made with walking Dr at 7 o clock pm told me if I want to go home the next day. I was thinking Saturday so I can get one good day and for physical therapy but after that first night tonight Fugetaboutit.

The VA Hospital becoming a mess it's more of a school than a hospital to help veterans I do not recommend that you go to the VA Hospital anymore if you have the coverage try and go someplace else these hospitals are not hospitals they are schools and we are being trained on

It's hit or miss with the care. I have 2 great doctors but the system falls apart all around them. Very rude, old-school staff that interacts with patients as if we're all living together in an old Bronx high rise. We're a nuisance to them. They have lost complete touch with the reality that it's a hospital and we are patients - much less veterans. My policy is to instantly speak up and defy these people - report them - call them out on the spot for their attitudes. The problem is, they are everywhere in that building - in every department I have had to go o for treatment. It's a shame because there are also great people. The pharmacy staff are very good. My doctors are excellent. I appreciate the VA but if I were in charge, I would walk through every department and start firing people or forcing early retirement etc.

Doctors and nurse's are great. The staff in the ER and Dermatology Dept are awesome, but then you have the workers on the first floor where you request carfare back for the money you have spent and they are lazy. You travel 3 times a week and they send you a carfare for 1 day and maybe 2 days. They skip weeks at a time to reimburse you back. Like the Bronx VA better.

Do not leave your loved one here alone. This is t...

Do not leave your loved one here alone. This is the worst hospital, the worst place, I have ever been to on the planet. Dangerous. They will expedite your death. And they'll make your last weeks hell.

Rude and unprofessional. Can't even muster a bit of decency, much less kindness, to speak to ailing inpatients with respect. Filthy. Unsanitary.

The lobby tells a big part of the story. Segregated entrance -- one for staff, one for patients. Patients have to stand in line at a TSA-style security checkpoint, remove shoes and belts, scan bags, metal detector, the whole nine. Oh, and visitors have to go through the patient line. So there ain't many visitors for the inpatients.

Once inside, don't expect someone to greet you, ask you what's wrong with you, perform oh, i don't know, triage, or acknowledge that you just walked into a hospital. You'd better know where you're going. There ain't a map.

You'll notice a pharmacy area with people crowded around in various states of discomfort or outright suffering, with no one attending to them. This pharmacy wait area, God forbid you ever be stuck there, is hell.

Upstairs in the inpatient areas, the nurses actually removed the Patients Rights and Responsibilities document from the wall when I requested to see a copy. Not to give to me, but to throw away. Behind closed doors upstairs, ALL patients are treated like they are in a prison or a high security drug rehab center, without exception, even if they are there for a colonoscopy or kidney stones. If you complain to nurses, they will walk out and send police officers in -- to a hospital bed. To an immobile patient. And if you try to check out before they say, a team of six officers, armed and apparently ready to shoot, will physically stop you.

I wish I was exaggerating. But I am not. And anyone, anyone who wrote a positive review of this place has never been an inpatient and is probably an employee.

You'll need counseling if and when you survive this place. It should be raided and the management should be arrested.

The doctors are good. Many unskilled civilian staff member are angry, unprofessional and incompetent. they need to stop hiring these useless civilians who never served and have no empathy for the many wounded veterans who did.
