Very clean facility and knowledgeable staff. Animals are very well tended. Inviting layout. Nice separation of animals to allow for better anxiety management
A great place to find your next pet. A wonderful cause to support
Came to get my fur baby shots updated. I love the way they had everything set up. You got your clipboard when you arrived outside. I told everybody to sit in the car are they could distance their self outside. When it got closer to the time to start to bring our fur babies in they only allowed 10 at a time. Everyone had to wear masks.
Clean facility, dogs of all breed's and mixes, caring and kind staff.
Took my cat in to get spayed. Process was quick and professional.
Well, I've gotten literally all my cats from here. I do community service here everytime, friendly helpful ladies, hopeful place for animals when they've been left for dead,
Amazing workers/volunteers!! Clean floors and litter boxes. Tons of kittens and cats that need homes. I will be finding a new kitty soon!!
Caring, helpful, informative staff, they take excellent care of the animals they are trying to find forever homes for, they have inexpensive veterinary care and educational programs.
Very nice employees. Had my cat spayed. Did a great job
I truly do want to warn people against ever adopting a pet from Evansville's VHS. Or at least tell them to be careful if they do. I just adopted a dog from there a month ago and have had a horrible experience.
When I went in to look for a dog, I stressed to them that I had to have a breed with no pit bull in it and one that was already fixed. I did a meet and greet with the dog I liked and they told me she was a lab mix and already spayed and was negative for heart-worms. They told me she had an issue with putting weight on one of her legs but that it had since been corrected and she didn't have that problem anymore.
When we went to pick her up, they told us that she wasn't spayed and would have to stay there longer until she could get fixed. They also said they had never actually tested her for heart-worms and that they tested her while having her in surgery and she was positive. Everyone I talked to gave me a different answer as to how long she had been at the shelter. So who knows how long she's been living with heart-worms untreated.
I couldn't give her back because who would want to adopt a dog with heart-worms? I didn't want her to get put down as they are not a no kill shelter. I had already fallen in love with her and want to help her. So I took her and immediately noticed upon getting her that she limps and cannot put much weight on the leg they told me was fixed. Also, upon getting the paperwork, they had listed her breed as Staffordshire Terrier.
I took her to a local vet to get a second opinion on everything. The vet told me she has a knee issue and could very easily tear her ACL and if that happens, would have to amputate her leg. They also quoted me a price for their heart-worm treatment and told me it could be done all at once. VHS told me it would take two months.
I e-mailed the executive director of VHS explaining everything that happened. I was not rude, I simply expressed my genuine concerns about bringing my dog back there for any kind of treatment considering everything. I asked them if they would be willing to work with me and perhaps give me a waiver or voucher to pay for at least some of the cost of the heart-worm treatment here in Louisville so I didn't have to drive her back and fourth two hours each way for two months.
She responded very rudely to me saying that they had already apologized for their mistake, they wouldn't justify giving any money for treatment elsewhere, they lose money every day with every adoption and that I didn't have to adopt Jazz and could have brought her back.
Please be aware of this in case you are thinking about going through them to adopt.
Did not adopt here, but the low cost spay and neuter clinic was super cool.
Great service, clean facility, we had our kitten spayed. I could not be more pleased with hpw things went.
A very friendly place with very friendly employee's. That's just an added bonus though. We all know we're here for the Animals. The Animals (puppies, adult dogs, kittens, cats, rabbits, and even rats) are all well taken care of and eager to meet you.
Their resale store is great. All money goes for animals
Great place animals seemed well taken care of friendly staff some dogs seemed A little grumpy typical since they are there
If anybody wants my pit bull mixed he s for 150$ he s about two years old very friendly more of a house dog please Message me on Facebook messenger Angelica Irving I ll send pictures he s clean , eats really good , active, and loves looking out the window or reply to me on here
I had been looking for a furry friend for a month. One night I looked at the website and found Karma. The staff was great! The vetting was complete and the fee was reasonable.
She has been learning a lot at 8 months old. We are best buds! Thank you Vandenburgh Humane Society!
It's a nice facility that is kept very clean. No foul animal smells. Well lit so you can walk around the animal pens safely. It's a good service to the community, but I get a little sad seeing the doggos and puppers locked up. I wish that I could adopt them all and move out in the country where they could live on a big old ranch.
Vanderburgh Humane society does an Extremely well job!
We used the spay clinic.
Great service. And well organized
But a bit unhappy and confused to the shaving of my dogs tail. She had the perfect dread.
The VHS is one of my favorite hangouts! Their cat room is amazing! As someone with anxiety, it is perfect. I recommend volunteering if you get the chance. Those animals are worth every moment you put into them. The workers at VHS are committed to those animals.
I visit vhs when I can but I got my converse he is a brown tabby it's been 3yrs ago and he a very loving and wonderful cat I love him the staff there is wonderful people they really care for the animals I want a third cat but where I live in can't I would probably be evicted if I do get a third on it will be a female cause I miss my angel kitty Muffin I mean I love my boys converse and Simon I also recommend VHS to EVERYONE I KNOW OR WHO I HEAR WHO WANTS A CAT OR DOG
I took my dog here to get neutered and the staff at the counter was rude as hell and yell at people about social distancing this will be the last time I go here for my pets and I will do my best to discourage other people from going there
Cool place where you can meet and spend some time with the animals who need your help...
Love spending time with the animals, even if I'm not bringing one home. It's good for my health, and theirs, I feel.
Very clean, nice place. The people were great and did a good job is spaying our dog.
Very nice staff. I got my Wonderful fur baby from here, he is truly the sweetest boy. Follows commands very well. He is in such a loving caring family. He is so loving and gives it every single day. Thank you for our baby boy.
I was also there today and the dogs do look really really sad and some of the Dogs didn t even have any water in their kennels. I encourage everyone to still adopt from this place though because those dogs don t need to be there they need to be in a better place.
Do you guys take in pets temporarily until the person gets on their feet?
Awesome animal shelter, extremely clean and organized.
Wooooooorst service ever. We made an appointment for our cat to get neutered 8 weeks ago!!! 8 long spraying howling grueling weeks to get him neutered I took him in today and put his cage next to the surgery door where they told me too filled out the paper work and put it at the counter where they told me to and left LIKE THEY TOLD ME I COULD DO. Just to have them call me as soon as I get home on the other side of town to tell me that I wasn't allowed to leave yet and that we have an extra 30 dollars to pay for him to have blood work done first because he's 6 yrs old (never mentioned this on the website or even in the paper work I was given) and that we have to wait another week to get him neutered. We have taken many cats to get spayed and neutered at the humane society and 3 of them over 6 years old and never got told they needed blood work done first, and i have never had such a rude and disrespectful experience like I did today. Ontop of that they had like 50 animals there today to get spay and or neutered and they had none of the correct paperwork set out for us instead they set out a bunch of adoption papers and had no kind of system in place what so ever. I understand with covid-19 things are different and everyone is still trying to adapt better systems to keep eachother safe. But this was not a good way to go and having only 1 person take care of it all is not okay. Many workers sat there while the woman helping everyone ran around crazy with a bunch of people talking at her. Or getting all of the animals taken in. Humane Societies are amazing and I love every aspect of them because they are here to help animals. But this one just needs to figure their system out and develop a much better one. And one other thing I will add is when they called I didnt get the chance to answer they left a voice mail and I called about 20 times before I got through to an actual person and the only thing you can do is leave a voice-mail but the voice-mail is for the manager who doesnt get there until 10 so unless she's going to come in at 8 the same time you do the spay/neuter they need to give another number to call so that way when there is an issue like this you give the person a chance to get ahold of you. And don't be rude and disrespectful on the phone. It does not matter how hard your job is if you are in an environment of helping and dealing with people be courteous and nice even if your not happy and even if the person is wrong with their question. I hope the humane society's spay/neuter clinic will do better. But other than that the humane society itself is awesome.
Kennels and crates are always clean and the volunteers and staff are very good with the dogs and extremely knowledgeable about how to go about adoption. Highly recommend
That place has gone way downhill. They don't even have a vet for the spay/neuter clinic. And when I tried to take my cats in for vaccinations they couldn't do that either. I'm pretty much done with them. Not to mention the first time I took a cat there they gave him fleas and tried to blame it on me.
Happy Tails retail shop has something for everyone! From clothes to toys to furniture, you can find all sorts be of treasures here.
The wait was reasonable even with COVID-19 restrictions. Customer service and prices are above and beyond what one would expect from a humane society clinic. I will definitely return for vaccinations and heartworm medicine in the future. Thank you!!!
Great staff - services are the best prices in town - they probably need two locations, they stay busy all the time
Took my 2 Male cats to be neutered. They were very clear with the process and my babies came out great
Friendly. They greatly care and love the animals there. We welcomed our bunny, Truffle, from there.
Ill donate anytime. They save me well over 150$ for a spay and nueter clinic. Even during the pandemic they make a way to mahe it easy and affordable.
I love this place! They have great prices on second hand miscellaneous cat/dog stuff, reasonable adoption prices, and the low-cost spay and neuter clinic has the best prices in town (plan on going at least an hour before doors open so you can get seen!- also, make sure you donate because you're getting a STEAL on services!!)
However, it's impossible to contact someone for setting an appointment about an animal spay/neuter and if you finally do get in contact with someone, the lady in charge just seems rude and miserable on the phone. Overall an unpleasant experience dealing with her. Maybe she just needs staff to help answer emails/return calls? Not sure, but no reason to be mean and condescending!
I love how this place is run. To date, we've adopted two dogs from them, and both have been very pleasant experiences.
Very good experience we adopted our dog there very helpful very friendly staff always trying to do what is best for the animals and we give them a 5 star rating they are very good and caring at what they do and are very dedicated to helping all of the animals they can to all the staff at vanderburg humane society keep up the good work with the animals you are doing a great job
So the last time I step foot at VHS was to get my best friend of 9 years Abby. Unfortunately I had to put her down recently due to bone cancer and it was terrible. Well, today I went back in there just to really look around and love on all the animals in there. It was quite clean and I couldn t get over how clean the cats litter boxes were! Everyone working was very busy but wouldn t hesitate to stop and help you out!
This place has not only been rude but we re a frequent visitor and every time they have been rude. We have came in to get cats neutered and or spayed if you don t want to deal with rude people first in the morning don t come in. I understand you guys are busy but that gives you no reason to be rude at any time, if you guys want cats or dogs to be adopted I would be a little more sincere and understanding that when you tap on the glass at a friendly manner and trying to play with the kittens in the cage you don t say in a rude manner don t tap the glass. Some people are wanting to see how the cats personality are and if you can t get them out then we try to play with them through the cage. Again please don t be rude all the time if I worked in a place with animals that are locked up in cages or in a room with others that just want love id be nice to other people to get them out of that situation.
Some of the best and most caring people that I have ever met. What a wonderful place to volunteer.
Its clean, volunteers are kind and the animals are amazing.
The can donations bin is full. Had to place my bag on the ground with some other bags. Guess that is a good problem to have though.
Very nice animal shelter. The staff were friendly and helpful. Animals seemed clean and well kept.
I adopted a cat named Winnie. Shes wonderful and is a great cat. Thank you!!
The people at Vanderburgh Humane Society were very compassionate and caring
Very nice, clean.Very professional staff and volunteer s.
Great place to find some bargains. And of course help out the animal A WIN WIN
Love spending time here ! All the staff are awesome and the animals are so cute!
I took my puppy there to get neutered. This was something that I would not have been able to do anytime soon, but they offer a low cost spay/neuter clinic that made this service affordable. They have caring staff and volunteers that gave me confidence to leave my little guy in their care over night!
Great place and a friendly staff the animals are well taken care of and it has a very clean environment I recommend them to anyone looking for a pet
I am so grateful Vandeberg county has this organization to not only help with fostering and adoption of pets so when one goes missing after having a missing cat and checking with them twice a week for almost a year I love what this Organization stands for and the help that they give our community in some of the hardest times.
Variety of items, most one of a kind. Great volunteers and all proceeds benefit the animals.
My wife and I foster dogs through Another Chance for Animals (ACA). The great staff here always do right by the animals and by the owners or fosters who bring pets in for any reason.
An animal shelter that has a low-cost veterinarian clinic, and is filled with a caring staff that tends to the animals and keeps it clean.
I love the animals, and some of the women that volunteer at the retail shop are wonderful (Gail:-)) but I wasn't happy that I wasn't told that the car I purchased was sick, until after I had already paid, and she was boxed ready to go - not cool, rather dishonest. She also had episodes of biting - hard for a few days, even though she was totally loved on, had the entire upstairs to herself (no stress), and I spent hours of loving time with her. I'm working with her, and plan to keep her, but the woman that helped me with her, knew her well, and her background info said nothing about biting. This won't stop me from adopting in the future, but I know now, to ask more questions, considering this experience.
The friendly staff knows the animals well. The animals are in clean kennels with a great exercise area. They seem to have a lot of great services as well.
I love the thrift store on Saturday, great prices and all the money and donations go to the pets here in Vanderburgh County
