I will first clarify that when visited the ER at the hospital, I was positive with Covid-19.
When I arrived at the hospital, I was having severe pain to the point that I was having trouble standing. I was offered a wheelchair, then screened followed by admitting me. Before I was taken to a room, I was pushed into a corner and left there while in extreme pain. Finally, after what seemed like forever, I was taken to a room.
I understand that there are no visitors allowed to accompany me and I get that, I was positive for Covid.
The nurses for the most part were good (at least until pain meds were delivered and my oxygen dropped into the low 80's), CNA's were awesome, and the radiology technician was incredible. It was the doctor on staff that was frankly a major disappointment. The nurses ended up ignoring me after my oxygen dropped and my monitor was alarming constantly, all the while fighting to stay awake due to the fact that I hadn't slept in five days because of the pain (the nursing staff should have put oxygen on my to raise my oxygen levels but didn't). The doctor refused to do much more than open the door and part the curtain, ask a few questions and then leave. I saw the doctor only twice. Last, the hospital was supposed to call my home so that they could come and get me when I was released and didn't. My wife had no Idea that I had been released and it was almost an hour before she could get to the hospital to get me.
When I worked at this hospital in the late 90's and early 2000's, the staff were so much more caring, compassionate, friendly and wanting to put the patient first. Now the hospital has grown unbelievably big and with the growth, the hospital has lost most of the above mentioned characteristics. I know that there are still great people that work at this hospital, but apathy seems to have become much more prevalent.
