Zoo Lights is our holiday tradition, way better than Temple square, and parking is easier, plus you get to see some of the animals
Hogle Zoo is pretty expensive for how small the Zoo really is. The Zoo recently renovated and I'm not a fan. They removed a big exhibit of animals that are indigenous to Utah, cave dwellers, mini exhibits of animals from other continents and a huge playing area. The Zoo didn't replace or even introduce any new animals so it is way smaller.
Many improvements over the years. It's still a bit small, though. You can get through the zoo in just a few hours, even if you catch a show or two.
Amazing to see all the animals it's a bit pricey but a good place to see animals and to take you're kids.
We love the zoo! It's a great experience for families. They do a Christmas light display in December that is really fun as well! If you're local, I recommend getting an annual pass. We love it, it's a great deal for families. You get discounts with an annual pass on food and souvenirs. We drive an hour at least 4 times a year to go, usually and more. It's so fun. Our favorite time to go is on cold days, the crowds are small and most the animals, especially the big cats, are super active. We love the Hogle Zoo!
It was very clean, and a lot of water monsters for people to stay cooled off
It's a smaller zoo, but it's a cool one. While we were there, a few of the animals were inside because it was snowy, but overall it was nice. The animals seemed happy, with enclosures that were large and well cleaned. The only things that I wish I had gotten to see were the red pandas and the Pallas's cats. Guess we'll just have to come back.
Great zoo now that the construction is finished. Wonderful splash pad there, and misters thru out the park. A good bird show too with plenty of jokes. Make sure to try to sit in the back in front of where the perches or cages are so you have majestic birds flying right over your head!
Hogle Zoo is a great place to visit animals and they even have red pandas now!
Went for a work party, loved the animals they were very active. However the train was a bust the only animals you see are the animals you can view from the pavilion save your money if you can.
Not many animals out and pricey rides that don't even go for 5 minutes. Gift shop expensive 20 dollars kids t-shirt that they grow out of in 3 months. Overall you need alot of spending money to have a good time
Our family has had a membership that covers several adults and our grandkids. We went about a month ago and reservations were required. Felt very safe and had a great time. They take such good care of their animals and I feel that any age would enjoy being there.
It was super hot, but fortunately they had cool mist zones throughout the zoo. Luckily, we caught the giraffe feeding (offered at 11 and 1pm when we were there), because the kids love that. The polar bears were really active and fun to watch. In fact, all the animal were pretty active, even in the heat of the day. The signage/education was well done, and it was interesting to learn that one of the rhinos wears a mask (that she can see through) to help with her eye allergies.
My daughter loved going there and seeing the animals. She had fun playing on the light house going down the slide. She rode on the ferris wheel we rode on the giraffe's the first time then her and papa went on it. Oh and was cool the lion roared tried to get video but to many talking to hear it on video.
Fantastic place specially for kids, and the best thing is that in winter time Wednesdays are free
This zoo is well planned, however many of the areas were closed for public in the month of February. Few of the animals and birds cages were found empty. Needs improvement . The Mary go round train is a good attraction.
The rest rooms are good in numbers and are well maintained.
One can complete the whole zoo within an hour.
African Savanna was amazing! Great variety of animals.
Hogle Zoo is a family favorite. We love being able to see and learn about all the animals. We have a zoo membership and have now renewed it multiple times. The upgrades to several areas of the zoo have helped bring it to a whole new level. There are snacks and food stops that make it easy to have a fund day out at any time.
For a company party, we rented out the zoo after 5 PM. At first, it seemed like a lame place to have a party. However, after finally walking around and enjoying the zoo, I had forgotten how amazing it is-even as an adult!
The animals are amazing, and it always brings out the child-like wonder when I see them.
Other than high inflation costs for concessions and souvenirs, it is a great place to take the kids and show them animals from across the world.
I was a little disappointed for the price you pay for admission. I expected a bigger zoo with more animals. Probably would have saved my $87 for my family had I known how little the zoo is. We spent about 3 hours there. The little train wasn't going either, another disappointment. Cool to see giraffes and rhinos though. But not worth the $18 each it cost me and my wife.
Great zoo. Loved all the recycled sculptures and the big elephant
A charming zoo! Expect to spend a few hours here but the animals and exhibits both looked great! Was surprised to get small zoo charm in a big city such as Salt Lake but overall it is worth the trip.
A lot of animals to see!! Great for kids and adults!!
Or kids love going to the zoo. The bo at the zoo and zoo lights events are particularly fun.
It's a zoo, animals are taken care of. They have a cool safari animals exhibit. I wish the gorilla enclosure was bigger, and nicer for them. The pricing for food is exactly what parks typically do. This experience isn't going to blow your mind, but you will see a polar bear.
We always have a great time with our kids here! I wish more animals were out during Zoo Lights.
I used to come here as a kid, and now that I have my own family, it is one of my favorite places.
I was disappointed in the lack of animals they have now as compared to when I was younger. Didn't think it was worth the money really
The polar bears were playing with each other in the water and then out of the water, they are beautiful. The Red Panda started walking right in front of us. The Red Panda is awesome.
Always a fun time! Some animals are hit and miss if they will be awake, but even when some aren't out, there is still plenty to see.
Kids love this zoo. The flow of the animals makes it feel super manageable to walk through and see them.
Lots of fun, especially for animal lovers who want to see a bunch of different types of animals. We had a great time here, wish we could have spent even more time here. So much to see. Definitely bring water in the summer, you'll need it all. Food sold in the park is a bit pricey, but if you or your kids need a snack, it isn't outlandish. Budget lots of time to go here. There's a playground for the kids, along with all the different types of animals. This could easily be an all day trip.
It s a destination you need to visit if you have kids or love animals or quality time with great people. I love the Zoo!!!
Great place for all ages. The exhibits are mostly open and made to be closer to nature.
Great family place. Wish you could get ice cream on your way out though! They have done amazing updates over the yrs.
I love the zoo, they are actively making this zoo more humane and the exhibits are much more natural looking. It's fun seeing the animals look happy!!
There aren't many animals here, but they have used their space very efficiently, and put a lot of interesting information next to the animals, so it is fun to be here.
I hate being "that guy" but this place just isn't worth the price. I understand that the animals have special needs but it seems like every time we go there, there are so many empty exhibits. And the price of admission at over $50 dollars for 2 adults and one child just to see empty exhibits it just disappointing.
It's not the biggest zoo, but still a good time for the family. New exhibits are being added periodically and the new splash pad is great for the kids
My autistic son was screamed at by a staff member. When approached her about she said I screamed but I did say please at the end . His crime? He climbed over the fence instead of walking around it. Safety first I get it. But when you have an autistic child who doesn t understand why he s being screamed at? He would e responded to nice words. Now he s terrified of the zoo, he said I sorry, didn t know, I sorry .
So much to see & do. Great way to spend a day. Very crowded on weekends & holidays.
We haven't been for 10+ years and it's amazing I want to go back in the spring to see more of the zoo.
I love going to the zoo. I am a member. They have so many wonderful animals. I only have gone on Saturday in the morning. The animals are usually active. They also let you watch the training they do for a lot of the animals and have the training schedule so you can plan your day. You can bring your own water and food for a picnic. Lots of nice shady seating all over the park. The red pandas are the best.
Well maintained facility, had a fantastic time with the family.
Fun place to walk around and spend time as a family :) a little abandoned in the colder weather (not many visitors or staff) so there weren't as many shows, etc. but it was still pretty fun
We love Hogle zoo. The size, the animals, the experience. Love it!
Amazing customer service and all the employees were very kind and knowledgeable of there work.
Lovely year round, we are impressed by their efforts during winter to create "Zoo Lights" to keep people visiting. Cute themed snack shacks and well kept exhibits. Great for the whole family :)
Utah s Hogle zoo tends to get better and better every year. Our family looks forward to visiting at least once or twice a year
The Zoo is a decent one. The animals are fun to look at.
Decent for the kids but subpar compared to a lot of other city zoos. Have made a lot of improvements.
Fun and stimulating for my family even during the Pandemic. Masks only required in buildings and ordering food. There is the 2 month old baby gorilla which is neat to see.. And now, you can feed Giraffes and Elephants!!
Children and adults like the polar bears, giraffes, seals, etc.!
You should put a no strollers and wagons up where the free bird show is I was there and watching your employee move people strollers and wagons and I think that is wrong you have no sign up anywhere saying no strollers and wagons they should not be touching other people things I would be so mad if I came out and some one moved my stuff with out talking to me first
I seen a pic of my new Grandson that was born in vitro . He he was at the Hogle Zoo looking at the zebras. I love the zoo I haven't been to Hogle Zoo for years I want to go . New York is where I want to go and see the Bronx Zoo. I watch the Zoo every weekend me and my dog spark plug love to watch the zoo that's where I want to go the boogie down Bronx as they say. I love gorillas and monkeys . I have pictures I've picked out I say stuff about them on Pinterest if you ever get a chance go there and check them out. Have a great day.
Big smiles
It was an excellent experience, not too busy, and the wether was perfect!
Very, very expensive. Also, all the coolest animals are either asleep or just died. I wish they'd offer a discount on days where the most interesting animals are not on display. I know everyone has different opinions, but it's obvious that the money makers is the polar bear, Lions, tigers, etc..
We went to the Zoo for the Zoolights Christmas lights display. The lights are bright and enjoyable. Much of the Zoo is not available to visit or observe due to it being off-season and dark. The purpose of the visit should be to see the lights and not too much the animals. My family and I had a nice evening.
I don t like that you cannot spy on the giraffes or elephants, etc when they go inside.
Beautiful place, very well cared animals, places to eat, buy souvenirs.
It is advisable to go around the zoo circuit twice so as not to miss any attraction.
Not very big as zoo's go, but worth the visit just the same. Got to actually see almost every animal in action. Nice place.
World class Zoo experience. Something for visitors of all ages. Super fun.
HOGLE ZOO FTW!!! I've been to several average sized zoos around the country and have to say that Hogle Zoo is an incredible experience. The cost of admission is only slightly more than I'd expect, but in the end is likely on par with what it needs to be.
The animals all seem to be well taken care of, and even though my kids all want to pet and ride everything, I'm happy to see there aren't any exhibits allowing this.
One of the great improvements for the kids is the newly opened water and play area. They can get their wiggles out, burn some energy, and then proceed onward to see the animals without "feeling so booooorrrreeedd" :D
Nice improvements Hogle Zoo!!
Amazing place to be with the kid, we had a lot of fun today: feeding giraffe, riding the train, carousel, enjoying the ice cream
This is a nice zoo that's clean and well kept. We went during October 2020, so there weren't that many people there which was great. When we checked in the person at the front was great and advised everyone to wear mass. Unfortunately there are still people that didn't wear them even inside places that required them. The only downside is the train ride. It is so short and was only about 2 minutes long. We expected it to take us through the entire zoo, but that wasn't the case. Overall a nice zoo.
Great play areas but a bit pricey for what you get. The train is short and mind of lame.
It's a zoo!! I've been visiting this place since I was a little kid and never get tired of it. It's always so clean and well-maintained.
It's okay but most of the animals where not visible also the splash pad was broken and clogged .
Geographically it's difficult because the whole place is in the side of a hill. The animals appear to be well cared for and have clean enclosures. It world have been nice for the playground to have play spaces appropriate for young toddlers. My 3 year old loved it, but there wasn't much for my 18 month old to do on the play ground. There were lots of bathrooms, which is great for a newly potty trained 3 year old.
They're doing a good job with keeping the crowds down due to the virus which also makes it easier to see the exhibits.
Pretty decent sized zoo with quite a few animals. They have a lot of eateries inside the zoo. They also have a toy train ride. The reason I'm giving a three start is because I just hated the way they kept the polar bear. Polar bears are supposed to be kept in cold temperature but this was a hot day in July and the polar bear's place was open roofed. The poor animal was just so agitated and restless.
