Very good , well done and lots of info. Be prepared to watch children s eyes, lots of graphic images... very informative and lots of emotional stories.

This is a museum every American should visit. The forces that created the Holocaust still exist within society and must not be allowed to grow. A very informative display.
Very disturbing yet factual look at a dark period of history. Raises, but never answers, the question "Why would anyone do this?" Makes a person think.
My favorite museum in DC. Very sobering. Give yourself several hours to see it all
You must get reservations! Don't expect to be able to walk in and see anything - you'll be out of luck, like we were.
The little that we did see was interesting and sobering.
Very good and in depth descriptions of what happened
An experience to be had if you re in the city. The museum has done a good job of curating and designing the exhibition, which takes you on a emotional journey. While we were reluctant to go to the museum because we were afraid of the emotional toll it might take on us, I m glad that we did, because it s definitely an experience to be had, and more importantly so, knowledge to be had. It s also free to enter.
If you have children...
A must-go place for education...
An amazing museum to see, and very eye opening. So many facts, and so many things I have never seen or heard before. You can enter for free, but just get there early enough to get tickets to see the whole exhibit. The museum allows military, police, and fireman in anytime to attend the entire museum, even if all the tickets were given out. A definite must see while in DC.
Impressively put together, but surprisingly having more recreated exhibits than historical evidence
Such a profound place. So incredibly sad but necessary to remind us that this kind of heinous tragedy must never happen again.
"learn from the past to improve the future"
This museum was definitely a discovery, it not only shows the terrible tragedy of extermination but manages to bring it back to life.
Free as the other Smithsonian museums, the Holocaust Memorial Museum manages to describe everything in every detail, through the use of different historical finds, images and videos, in an overwhelming and engaging way. It's true, it's raw, it's essential not to forget.
This place is an experience like no other. Go with the right attitude and hearts open
It's a sad experience to see what happened to the jews who got burned alive and gassed inside the gas chambers it's also a time to let it all out I mean let out your thoughts and emotions
Recently visited and was in tears when I stepped out.
They had two exibhitions on display, the Jews in nazi germany and the civil war in Cambodia.
Shattering.
I would advice that you get tickets in advance or reach the place at 9.45 that morning to get same day tickets.
WWII being one of my favorite time periods to learn about this museum is definitely a place to go if you are a WWII buff.
The Museum brings everything so much to life. Heartfelt condolences to the families who suffered such a terrible tragedy.
This place is real sobering. They do have a ticketed viewing of the main part of the memorial. I don't know how much the tickets cost. A customer service employee noticed we were looking around aimlessly and asked if we needed help. I explained that this was our first visit and he asked if I was military or law enforcement and after looking at my ID he gave me 2 tickets.
I fully intended to document my experience at this memorial as I had done at all the other sites but when I started through the beginning of the memorial, I put my camera away so I could focus on the memorial.
It was pretty packed throughout the memorial. It cleared up some on the 3rd and 2nd floor (you start on the 4th). It was a very sad and moving memorial. It's really something that you need to experience for yourself. I doubt anyone can describe the memorial on here and give it justice.
You have to be proactive and get tickets in advance, but this is a must see for any world citizen that visits DC
Really powerful museum. Great place to visit and wonderful representation of the Holocaust and commemoration for the people of the events that occurred.
Moving I'll never look at shoes the same way again.
A must go while visiting DC. The Museum does an excellent job explaining the rise of Nazi Germany and one of the darkest times in human history. It can be crowded and tickets can be acquired online for free.
Add this to your list of places to take your children.
If given the chance, I think everyone should visit this museum. It was very meaningful.
Incredible, it was moving and touching. Museum was exceptionally well thought out. A must see.
It was hard to walk through, but it was one of the most mind challenging experiences ever. If there is one museum that everyone must visit it is this one. It just brings more in depth information that you may have not known about. I hope everyone goes here and leaves different than they entered. I know I did.
It was my 1st visit. There's plenty of on street parking around the museum. It took about an hour and a 1/2 to 2 hours to visit all the exhibits and watch 1/2 the videos. There's a bathroom on every floor. Of course it's extremely sad. The employees are very helpful. It was very crowded when I went during the week because schools were visiting. Most important tip: Get your tickets weeks in advance.
Good place. Pretty sad and creepy. I wish there were more relics and not quite as much reading, but that s typical for a self guided tour.
It's very frightening to see what was done to mankind never happen again
Great place to reflect on the evil potential within us all! A serious you go to learn and reflect not for fun!
Everyone should see this at least twice, so much to take in and reflect on that once is not enough. Very powerful and moving.
Great place except they allow too many people in at once.
My family was impressed by this experience. A little bit crowded but overall well organized and a lot of insightful information.
There is a lot of information, and it is very well organized. Whether you are well versed in the topic or not you will take something away.
The best Holocaust Museum i have ever been to and I've been to several around the world. It's a little out of the way but we'll worth it! You can to see tons of pictures and video clips that are not typically shown in tv shows.
Great museum, I did not have the time finish visiting it and I entered at 11 am. Although I did read mostly everything. Highly recommend it.
So heartbreaking but respectfully portrayed. Much more history behind the scenes. Was very interesting to learn about the resistance efforts.
Hope this museum will stay open for many generations to come. It was a sad place and cold feeling of another humam being treated people this way. I will be welcome back to Washington D.C. if they open more extermination or genocide exhibits for other ethnic like Arminian in Turkey, Nanjing massacre by Japanese government...
Too many groups were allowed to enter at one time, making it next to impossible to see any of the exhibitions. Such a shame. Some of the artifacts are located in very narrow rooms which artistically is a good idea, but logistically is terrible. The groups were in town for a march the next day and if the management staggered their entry into the museum it would have been better for everyone. I would have rather queued and got to enjoy the museum.
Cool to see but also sad to see the history of the Holocaust
A great place to take the family. It won't be a fun time, but it's important that people continue to learn the history of the Holocaust so that it can be prevented on the future. This museum tells the history well.
It was a beautiful building with a respectful but real story of the tragedy of the Jewish people.
A woman was there in front of the bunk beds telling her story. So sad. Yet how lucky we were to hear it and how brave of her to speak it. God Bless her. A must see museum. You will never be the same after. To think people could do this to another. Unimaginable.
Very impressive and memorable experience, great artifacts, learned a lot. Everyone has to visit and see for himself so the history won't repeat itself.
Wow. Such a well designed museum. It starts off lighthearted and intriguing, and gradually tells an incredible story of rise to power, failures, successes, and eventually goes into the atrocities which occurred during this time. The story is so well told using mediums of all kinds artifacts, video, still images, recordings, letters and much more. Very well thought out and delivered. Must see.
Words can not Express my feelings.... very emotional thing to take in.....
Very moving but a great experience. Not for young kids that don't understand the true cost of what happened.
This place is very well put together. Probably the 'best' museum (that seems like the wrong word due to the content) that I visited in DC, and I went to a lot. Graphic scenes are hidden behind walls so it is your choice whether to view them or not, but I recommend you do, a main purpose of the museum is to understand what humans are capable of and make enough of an impact that we don't do anything like this again as a species. But overall a great mixture of artifacts, video, art, and symbols.
Such a sober place -- I loved the exhibits and they really made me reflect on the Holocaust
This museum is a must if you are visiting the DC area. The museum is very well laid out, and takes you through a well orchestrated timeline of events. This museum is a very emotional ride so prepare yourself. I have been here on four occasions, and every time I learn a lesson on tragedy, triumph and human perseverance. In addition, the museum also features Holocaust survivors from time to time. It is amazing (and sometimes heartbreaking) to hear their first hand accounts of the war and the concentration camps. This museum is a life changing experience.
A must see. Very moving. All life is sacred; we are all children of God.
An amazing, affecting, life-changing experience. Everyone should go here.
Very interesting, full of amazing artifacts and rare footage from the Holocaust
This Museum stands as a memorial to the atrocities of men, human suffering, and what can happen when we reduce our fellow human beings to nothing. From recreating Jewish homes, Holocaust layouts, items and artifacts from concentration camps are found within. This will make a lasting impact upon all who enter.
Spent 3 hours at this museum. Had a very enriching experience.
Great facts telling the story of the holocaust and why it's important
A hard experience but so important for everyone to have.
This was a very good museum . It is definitely taxing on your emotions but the message is important . It gives you a lot of information and a different approach than the holocaust museums I visited in Germany . It can be really crowded and generally you to get tickets in advance but not after September 1 st in the season .
Offers indescribable evidence of what humanity is capable of. This could be anyone.
It's an eye opening experience. I was OK until we made it to the remembrance room and the tears started to fall.
Very knowledgeable, I recommend going on a week day. It was still packed with school kids on a Thursday but better than weekend traffic.
If you know Santayana's quote about learning from history this is a must; if you don't, then read it and go!
One of the best museums. Look for Architecture guide in the entry hall for even further in-depth conversation...
Realistic depiction of the lives of Jews under the Nazis. Lots of interesting things to see. When entering the exhibition hall, the passage is long, so it is not advisable to go out in the middle. It is recommended to take a short tour and take at least an hour to go.
Moving no words other than we must not forget . Continue to expose tyrants both here and across the world. Hatred, violence and segregation must end. There should be no reason to create another memorial or wall to express sorrow at past deeds
Powerful. A must-see. Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it.
There are not words to describe what you will see here. It s a very emotional experience. Every adult should come here at least once in their lifetime.
One of the better done museums in the city. Be prepared to have a melencholy feeling while visiting. Focus on remembering those who did not survive and those in which experienced this heinous period in history.
I recommend that you purchase tickets online to avoid some waiting. Also, take your time throughout the tour.
A stark truth of what people can do to others in the name of ideals however wrong.
Very well done museum with a lot of good information which was presented well.
