Amazing place!! great piece of history that should never be forgotten but learnt from. I strongly recommend anyone in DC should visit. I know it's free but to make the most of it you might want to reserve your full pass tickets online for $1 if you won't be getting to the doors early enough or you could get it at the doors for the following day. Without the full pass you don't get to see and learn the true history of the Holocaust and it's not really worth the visit

Second visit. A full review of the terrifying period of what lead to the Nazi regime until it's downfall. A step by step description of what was happening in Germany and the invaded countries along with the implications they had on the Jews. Authentic and moving.

Must visit on your DC trip, but it might be emotionally draining to learn of the horrors of the Holocaust. You'll need to plan ahead and order a time ticket. Security is high. Don't have your ride share (Lyft/Uber/taxi) drop you off directly in front of the entrance. Best time to go (no crowds) in the morning of a weekday during the winter season.

This is a wonderful mueseum about some of the hardest times in history, the Holocaust. There is a "child" section with a story of a boy who is dealing with Nazi soilders. But, there is a mature section with heavy topics. I myself have visited this section and I recommend parental guidance under the age of 13. Overall a very important stop in Washington DC.

Very well done. We went the Day before New Years and there were long lines to see the main exhibit. I would suggest getting there early or break it up into a couple of days. So far it is free to get in. We also had to wait in line to get in but it wasn't that long and the security checkpoint is fairly fast. Everyone was friendly.

It was extremely cold in this museum. I think that was intentional to make it tomb-like, but still, bring a sweater. Also there are metal detectors at the entrance; don't bring in anything you wouldn't bring to church.

I went right before Christmas and i was so moved by the experience despite me being one of the last people to arrive before closing. I have thought about my experience every single day due to the things I ve seen. It was the most moving time of my life because of the subject matter and i will recommend this museum to family and friends.

Have to agree with other users on their "security"-the worst attitudes of any in the DC area. Tickets are limited so don't try to walk in and visit. You will rudely be turned away. We went back the next day with tickets and the crowd was so overwhelming you could hardly move through the museum. What's the use of limiting tickets if they are going to pack the place to that point? Overall, very disappointed in this museum's operation.

There are many museums in Washington, but this is one that you cannot miss. You will see all the history about the Holocaust. You can see stories of people that remain firm and strong no matter what they try to push to do. At the end they died but they proof to be loyal to their beliefs.
This is a very good option to visit if you are in DC.

Obviously a very somber experience; however, it is important to remember the history of what transpired. I learned a lot at the museum and I recommend when you visit, take the time to read through everything so you can understand how everything transpired, and even missed opportunities for the United States to step in and prevent some of the tragedy.

Huge museum dedicated to the horrors of racism. Unfortunate parallels of Hitler's rise to power and our current president path to office were self evedent but in no way intentional.

You cant tour this museum and not get a clear understanding of how such a horror could happen. Sure it was Hitler but the real responsibility lies with the society that emabled his rise to power.

It is our duty as members of society to ensure we cull those who hate and those who accept others that hate from our Governments before the unthinkable happens again.

An incredibly sobering walk through the horror of the Holocaust. This museum contains videos, photographs, and real relics from World War II. Tickets are free, though in the summer you may need to reserve tickets.

As you move down 4 floors of the museum, you move forward in history through the war, seeing the increasingly horrific truths. Starting with the rise of Hitler and culminating with the haunting concentration camps, each floor describes the atrocities and war crimes.

What a powerful experience, now 6 years since the last time I was here.

To see the main part of the museum you have to buy a ticket and when we showed up the weren't selling anymore, tho others were still getting in to see the museum, if your going to visit make sure you can get a ticket ahead of time! Otherwise there is the self guided tour in the basement but it's not as good.

A moving, candid depiction of this horrific component of WW2. An absolute must for visitors new to DC. Note, if you have a military, police or fire/rescue ID you may get up to 5 tickets for free, even on "sold out" days. Not appropriate for young children who aren't yet ready to appreciate the seriousness of this chapter in history. Give yourself 3+ hours to get through the main exhibit.

Incredible view of the many experiences related to the Holocaust. Most impressive presentation on how and when Americans learned about the Final Solution and public reactions at the time. This temporary exhibit explains actions by public leaders which today appear incomprehensibly immoral.

Very impressive presentation at the Holocaust museum. We loved the little Daniel story and how it described so well what happened during the Holocaust. As a Jewish man I was looking for more of the Jewish point of view and there suffering during the Holocaust, however most of the museum focuses on the American part (or not taking part) of the Holocaust.
I really loved the fact that it was the fullest museum we visited in DC and most of all I love that Louie, a Holocaust survivor, was there to speak to people and tell his story.

If you have not visited it, I recommend this to you, a place where I know all the suffering that both adults and children went through, it is strong to see everything they suffered but it is to reflect

This museum is one that should be seen.

This museum is one that should be seen.

The artifacts, stories, images, and messages that are shared are profound and will change the way you live and treat others. Thought provoking and humbling experience.

I highly recommend you get this into your visit when in Washington DC if you visit in spring-fall you need to get reservations which will need to be made at least 4 days in advance. If you fail to do that before you visit wake up at 6am and get on the website to reserve same day time slots, but be fast they go quickly.

Plan ahead and while you are over there get tickets to see the US treasury!

The description of five stars is "Loved it," but it is hard to say I loved it due entirely to the subject matter; however, the museum was fantastically put together, organized, and filled with incredibly important information. We can't ever allow something like this to happen again, and seeing how Hitler came to power should serve as a world-wide warning to everyone. I would strongly recommend that every single visitor to DC should take the tour and read and listen to everything. Don't be afraid that the exhibit will be horrifying or gory. There were only two small displays that had material that would be in that category, and the museum made a great decision in making the display only viewable if you wanted to see the content.

Very sad to see the effects of sin, hate, and a nation's ungodly policy. Visiting was both inspirational and thought provoking and brought tears to my eyes at different times to see and hear what people went thru and endured. Would definitely recommend it but not for small children and you need 3-4 hours depending on how much you read etc...

Must see attraction in DC. I advise you get there early since there tends to be long lines. Very emotional and educational experience. The children's exhibit was thought out and perfect for that age group.

Wow...the history of terror, abuse, and the murdering of innocent people for their religious beliefs is stagaring. You are really put in you place viewing all that went on during WW2. This is a must see by all.

Many people are interested in the topic, which means there is confidence that this will never happen again.

This place has been a life transforming experience for me on a personal level. Very professional and organized staff. They ensure that you have an amazing and unforgettable experience. For the permanent display, make sure to book tickets in advance and be there in time!!! Five levels of museum exhibits so make sure you have set aside a day for this place.
