VERY friendly and knowlegable staff. There was PLENTY of employees ready and so willing to assist me. The store is conveniently located downtown as is VERY clean and laid out very well. GREAT selection! Two BIG thumbs up for U.S. Outdoor Store and everyone there. Keep it up!

I made a stop in here to find a hat for my partner. The guys on the main floor pointed out a few hats and told me that there were more upstairs too. When I went up, there was a nice fellow with rad hair who heard what I was up there for and showed me another shelf of hats. The staff was super friendly and helped me found what I was looking for! Even though it was a quick trip, I'm happy I was able to bring a nice gift from Portland, OR back with me!

US Outdoor and team graced us with their presence at Ski Fever - Super hospitable. And by far the leaders of the pack. I said I would be back this weekend to the brick n mortar, however it looks more like next weekend. Need to make sure I have the funds to spoil myself with the quality snowboard gear they have!! I love this place. Everyone that works here is friendly, helpful and knowledgable. I've been shopping here since 98 and was recently reminded why I will only go here for my outdoor/gear/sunglasses needs.

The sales rep Amber is the homieeeee, give her a raise because she deserves it and was SO helpful and kind.

Staff was very helpful and they have a section where you can get some great products for up to half the cost. Definitely happy with my new Gore-tex.

Gave two stars due to an actually nice store. Sadly though after calling around for a specific product and size I was told over the phone they have plenty of it... showed up and absolutely nothing even close, not even the right size. The purpose of calling around was to avoid wasting the time driving from store to store, an employee didnt want to waste their time looking lol. First impression: not wasting my time again and sticking with columbia sportswear off sw taylor.

They have a great selection for outdoor goods and upstairs they have a large room full of discounted items.

Sketchy. Do not buy anything from these clowns who email you days later to inform you that what you ordered and paid for isnt even in their inventory..yes its 2019 and this can somehow still happen.not sure how.MIND BLOWN. good thing I check my junk email because that's where their message wound up. Not even the simple courtesy to call me. Not like I would have a ski trip planned and be depending on the gear I ordered to make that happen..that would be just too crazy of a thought...???

Friendly accommodating staff. No big and Tall sizes at all.....I'm big and tall....so it's kind of a thing. But they were willing to hunt stuff down for me....if I was not leaving I would have taken it up.

I am amazed by the shipping speed: The 2nd day to Seattle! I was also given the refund for a price match without a question asked, despite there is zero sales tax. What a nice store!

Super sub par for a gear shop. Multiple people were pretty confused when I was discussing climbing & glacier equipment. Really didn t have any helpful recommendations for specifics for mountaineering. Cashier also called my debit card debs so there s that

Us outdoor store is great! Went in to look at gloves. Chuck was awesome and pulled just about every pair down for us to try. After about thirty minutes we found the perfect ones. He was very knowledgeable and didn't even act annoyed that it was taking us so long. A lot more than I can say for myself if I was in his position.

Great service and helpful staff. I purchased a backpack from here years ago and it still fits great. They sold me what I needed and nothing more. Also, been there on numerous occasions to just chill out and watch ski videos.

I've been shopping here for as long as I can remember for anything outdoors related. Their staff is extremely knowledgeable and I can always recognize faces years past whenever I visit. I also like supporting local businesses and this is one of the longest running businesses in the Portland area.

They sold me a very damaged pair of skis and didn t bother waxing them. It took four days to slide a binding and change a DIN setting (five minutes of work). The shop has fallen apart since the old manager, Tod, left. Head over to Next. You ll be much happier.

I had a great experience at US Outdoor store this past weekend when I needed adjustments done to my ski boot. Walking in, I was immediately and cordially greeted by an employee, a surprise considering the reviews I had read when I was looking up directions to this place. When I walked to the back, Ben, a boot technician, immediately greeted me and began listening to the issues I had been having with my boots and suggested several innovative options that would address my needs. After about an hour, the modifications were made. I skied that night and they were great, even though I had recently switched from Lords to AC50's (much stiffer ski requiring more pressure to control and carve). I will definitely be coming back here.

As a corollary, I think I can understand some of the negative reviews. The person who rung me wasn't nearly as cordial as Ben or some of the other staff, and seemed "too cool" for us; I could imagine that some of the staff might not be as helpful and perhaps condescending, but I had a great experience and wanted to contribute to the reviews on here.

I spontaneously planned a camping trip on Monday night for the weekend and US Outdoors had the tent I wanted. However, I was afraid that I wasn't going to receive my tent before the trip due to order processing time and shipping. So I called the US Outdoors and Scott, the person who assisted me was so helpful!! He asked for my name so that when I place the order, he would get it ready right away. I did the next day shipping and got it the next day morning. I definitely will be coming back here to shop again.

They just moved (September 2020). Near REI, stop here first they allow you to try on clothes, nice atmosphere. They have a nice selection of adventure gear. Shop here if you re looking for some new clothes, shoes, etc..

I have two versions of this store the short & long version!
Short version, is US OUTDOOR is a great trustworthy store with amazing employees, & a huge selection of top name brand stuff that s sometimes even hard to find at really good prices! Scott has it the shipping sceince down to a T / perfectly on time, with a day to spare!

Long version is that No one had the snowboard I wanted in my size, except US OUTDOOR!!!
That s including in big name & mom & pop snowboard stores & online!
So I looked up reviews since I m always sketched out when buying from new places!
I found good reviews, then I checked the bad reviews, & the bad reviews where all made right with the customers in a good timely fashion!

So I was still a little on the fence so I looked them up on google, found there store location & then I Realized I m a 28 hour drive away from them round trip!
So I called them, & WOW what great customer service, I told them the snowboard I wanted & I asked if they could have it shipped to me in 4 days for the powder storm, with the best price friendly options available!
I talked to SCOTT, & he told me the free shipping would get to me in time with a day to spare! What??? Absolutely Amazing!!

I m glad I asked, that saved me $60, in shipping! I just got the package today & it was even super well packed to protect my new snowboard perfectly! So awesome to even the little details!

Now to make my point clear, they went above & beyond what most stores do now days!
( In My Opinion! ) I won t go anywhere else now, as long as I keep getting these great customer service experiences, great selection of top name brand outdoor products, at really good prices, with free shiping shipping, it s amazing!!!

Great staff, great customer service. I purchased my first wet suit from these guys and they took time to make sure i had the properly fitting wet suit. When i noticed one of the seems on the wet suit begin to split. they repaired it and sent it back to me without a problem.

This place is excellent in every way. They have knowledgeable staff that participates in the sports they sell equipment for. I bought an alpine ski touring set up from them and had a problem with one of the boots. They all came together to solve the problem by replacing the defective boot with one of better quality. I was impressed by how much they cared and wanted to make it right. I recommend this place to all my friends and personally do not shop anywhere else.

Great and very Reliable store. I've bought a Mountain Hardwear Drifter 2 DP Tent for the best price online and had it shipped to New York fast and easy. The customer service was very helpful and efficient. Highly recommended!

Great experience, they guy who helped me pick out a pair of ski boots was very knowledgeable and friendly. He actually cares about getting you dialed into the right gear. Genuine.That's hard to come by these days. I advise going in on a weekday, I had all the time I needed and it seemed like they had plenty of people on staff.

I would frequent this place if I lived in Portland. Great supply of everything one would need for the outdoors. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff and prices seemed reasonable for the quality offered.

Staff was amazing. Went up to the water sports section and was helped by Liam. Nicest kid in the world. If you are in Portland and need outdoor gear come visit this shop.

These guys have a big selection of outdoor gear and apparel and a big staff of friendly and helpful outdoor enthusiasts. A good alternative to REI or Evo to get your new skiing setup. For being located right downtown they actually have reasonable prices. They also have a lot of inventory, probably related to their large online business.

US Outdoor has the feeling of a locals shop with a selection of gear that surpasses the national stores like REI.

Great selection of outdoor equipment. Able to get higher end gear especially for skiing/snowboarding than competitors and prices are always good. Great layout in the store and easy to use online shopping experience. Staff is always knowledgeable and many have been working there for over a decade and really know the product lines. Furthermore you see the staff out on the mountain and at the local shows.

I purchased a beta ar arcteryx coat on sale April 28, 2018. When I spoke with the manager she told me it was last years model. When I got the coat home I noticed that a newer price tag had been placed over the older one. I sent the data to arcteryx since I was now unclear what I had actually purchased and wanted to be clear about the technical aspects of the coat. The coat was from 2015!. The sales person had not been truthful. Be careful what you purchase from this store.

I placed an online order for a pair of Sorel Cate the Great boots from them, had some technical issues with placing the order, but they took great and immediate care of me when I contacted them about it. The customer service rep, Alex, who I emailed with was super polite and friendly and had the issue cleared up in a matter of minutes. The boots arrived quickly and were boxed up nicely. Unfortunately I've just bought my last piece of merchandise from us outdoor store. After 10 years of being a pretty loyal customer, I finally encountered their Return Policy. Tried to return a pair of snowboard boots that I wore for 45 minutes because they were so uncomfortable that I had to rent a pair. ...and I got the shaft.

My family and I have been going to US Outdoor Store for over 20 years. In those years we ve bought everything from them: pairs of skis, snowboards, bindings, boots, jacket, base layers, at. al. I ll never go back again, my last experience with new staff members was horrible. There is a reason why people go to local ski shops, service. I can buy anything online or at big box store, with the expectation of little to no customer service. But we paid a premium to shop at US Outdoor because of what they offered. Parking down town, tripping over drug addicts on the sidewalk, all to have a self-important sales person treat customers like a nuisance, isn t worth it.

My husband and I went to the U.S. Outdoor section at Portland Ski and Snowboard Expo today. George was so incredibly helpful in getting us setup with all of our boarding equipment. From boards, to boots, and bindings he was so informative and knowledgable. We highly recommend visiting the store and getting great assistance from him or any of the other staff members!

US Outdoor had a huge selection of gear including amazing values for top brands and bucket list items(of which I bought). The staff were incredibly knowledgable, friendly, and easy going. Plus, the Spring Clearance sale was pretty spectacular, easily on the same footing as the Mazamas Used Equipment Sale and better than the Mountain Shop's own Spring Clearance Sale. I will definitely be making an effort to check here for gear before anywhere else!

Review : U.S. Outdoor store offers a wide variety of brands both sportswear & causal wear. They have high quality of customer service both friendly & knowledge with every level of understanding. Many employees have worked there for decades & it shows that they care. I would highly recommend this store to anyone!

Short Story : I was in Portland this weekend. It started raining, as usual, so I went back to the car while my girlfriend continued shopping. I accidentally took the wrong street back to the store & ended up in front of their store. I was stopped by a super nice guy under a tent giving out hot dogs. He suggested that I & my girlfriend come back to have a hot dog & a beer.

After she was done shopping up the street, we came back in the rain & found the guy. He gave us a little history about the company, told us what to do around town & asked to go check them out. I was actually impressed not only the staff offered us a nice little meal, but was super nice inside as well. This was no bait & switch, or gimmick, they were authentic & genuine. Thank you very much!

US Outdoor remains the best outdoor clothing and gear shop in Portland and one of the best in the country. They only carry the best brands on the market and their buyers do a great job of stocking products and colors you can't find at mass retailers like Any Mountain, Big 5 and REI. I completely disagree with the 2 star review about poor selection because US Outdoor is usually packed with stock and they move through it quickly. That's why they are able to have regular sales not to mention the huge clearance annex upstairs. US Outdoor remains in business when almost all independent outdoor stores are struggling to stay open because they know what's up.

Huge store with lots of cool stuff, prices weren't too bad.

I visit this store almost every week, since it's just a couple blocks from where I work. It's usually just to check out what's on offer in their "sale annex" upstairs, where you can find old/out of season stock at fantastic prices. Select has been a little sparse lately, so I don't know if they're phasing it out or it's just between seasons.

This is an interesting review because I didn t actually go in, but the person who answered the phone (Helena) was so incredibly helpful it compelled me to leave this.

I had a boot problem but they couldn t fix it, that didn t stop Helena from exhausting every option and having one of her pros (Owen) call me back with other store recommendations in the area that could solve my unique problem. Owen was just as courteous, helpful, and easy to work with as Helena.

Absolutely recommend them from a professional customer service perspective. It s not something you get a lot of lately and this made want to help promote them!!

They have a ton of stuff! Irinically, they don't carry sports balls so you will need to go elsewhere for that.

Need to return some sandals I bought online for Christmas. They are too small. The standard return is only for 30 days and so I have called and emailed many times to ask for approval to return. No one ever responds.

Went here for rock climbing gear and some advice and I got more than I asked for. Huge help in selecting gear and introducing me to new styles of climbing. Would reccomend at least stopping by and talking to the people who work here, great place!

The reason I give US Outdoor a two star is because every time I go there, the staff make me feel very uncomfortable. I feel watch over. There is three guys that are very helpful, I will get their names next time I visit. There is some rudeness and unwillingness to get a good answer to some of my questions. That is the reason I don't buy gear there. There is another post here by Victor P. that seems that is the same case with him too. I am also Hispanic. I like the convenience of dropping my board to get it waxed and pick it up later on. They guys at the basement shop does an excellent job getting the boards ready to hit the slopes. So, a big thank you for that.

Great place to find the newest in North Face gear. Bought a pair of snow shoes, love them. Staff knows a lot about Oregon outdoors and are a good resource for hiking gear.
