Very compassionate and professional. Talked with me extensively on the phone when my cat was having urinary issues and got me in for a same-day (same hour really!) appointment on a Saturday. Very gentle and smooth with our cat, who is very easily agitated and doesn't take well to strangers. On top of that, very reasonable pricing for an emergency appointment, two prescriptions, and prescription cat food.

Hopefully won't need to return soon, but will definitely come back here!

Our dog and cat are best friends. When our kitty got sick we knew we had to act fast! Our cat wouldn t eat but kept begging for food. Doctor Annie and her technician quickly diagnosed our cat with a thyroid condition. Service was fairly priced and we were able to get an appointment quicker than with other clinics. Highly recommend!!

Despite the fact that the vets were friendly and seemed knowledgeable, this office performed several tooth extractions on our chihuahua WITHOUT doing x-rays as part of a cleaning. They left exposed roots, which caused our dog an incredible amount of pain. We finally took him to the University of Minnesota to fix the shoddy dental work they had done. Upon doing so, we also found that the ultrasound they had performed at UV (for an unrelated heart condition) had not been done by a board certified technician, though they charged the same and insisted that it was to the same standard as the University of Minnesota. Don't take your pets here, especially for anything beyond the basics.

Money oriented! One time they made me come over 3 days in a row (for useless procedures) till my dogs condition was critical. Another time they sent me home when my dog had a fever and then 30 mins later called me because someone canceled their appointment. They are worth seeing only when your pet is healthy. Few caring people there but they are not the decision makers. I would not recommend them since they start giving you meds and treatment before knowing the diagnosis and keep you hanging when time can be critical for your pet.

They don t offer payment plans if you re financially in a bad spot. Intraday they just hold your pet hostage. These people shouldn t be working with animals if they only see them as cash cows.

Have been taking my dog here since 2012 and they have been wonderful- before and after the sale of the business. The staff and vets all clearly love animals and know how to keep them calm and feeling safe. Vet services are always expensive and I'd say Uptown Vet charges lower medium prices-hopefully that makes sense!
Highly recommend.

Took my very sick dog in for an exam to Upton vet .The vet spent a very short time examing the dog . No blood work was ordered , nothing was given as an explanation for why she had'nt eaten for a week or what in fact could be causing her illness. The dog was simply weighed and her temp. Taken ! She did'nt check her stomach , ears etc . I was then given 2 pills to give her and told to bring her in the next day for X-rays If she did'nt eat . I was then presented with a very large bill ! 2 days later I contacted another vet took her in and he immediately looked at her eyes , stomach and ears and stated that those areas were very yellow and immediately stated that she's jaundiced . That no X-rays were needed . He then did a blood work up and determined that she was well along and that her chance of recovery was extremely unlikely . If I wanted to put her in the hospital I was given that choice . We both agreed upon putting her to sleep was the best alternative . I then had her put to sleep . I feel that Upton vet experience was inappropriately handled . The exam was a joke , and I took the dog home not knowing anything with regard to what was wrong with the dog . Just come back tomorrow for X-rays if she dose not eat . It would appear to me that Upton vet is about $ . I would suggest that you consider carefully what vet you chose , and meet the vet first and describe Circumstances with regard to your pets condition . Also ask what the fees are connected with the services . I then contacted a wonderful vet at another pet clinic and got the answers I needed ! I would not recommend Upton vet to anybody ! and would never go back .

Thank you so much to uptown vet for seeing my pet guinea pig on short notice for some digestion issues. The prices were half of what I had called around and been quoted elsewhere and they were able to squeeze us in for an appointment because my pet wasn t eating even though they were booked for the day. I and Sprinkles really appreciated all the help! What a great, affordable and caring business!

Highly recommend. It seems as though the turnover at Uptown Vet has finally settled as of Jan 2020. Dr. Antonio has been here for a little while now and has earned my trust. He is friendly, knowledgable, and easy to communicate with. He follows up with my husband and I personally after he sees my dog for injuries or surgical procedures. The techs and staff are happy and clearly love animals of all shapes and sizes. Still easy to get my pet in for appointments, even same day, on short notice! There have also been times when I've made a quick office visit and they didn't charge me for the visit portion.

I have have been with my gal Suze for two years. She s my first dog ever. Never even grew up with one. When I first got her we went to a few different vets before landing on Uptown Veterinarian. Not saying the other places were doing a bad job but no one seemed as genuinely caring as Uptown.
I have nothing but good things to say about them.
Up until recently we only had routine check ups and annual shots.
A couple weeks ago another dog decided to attack my gal. Uptown was so amazing handling the whole situation. The doctor stayed late just to see Suze. The care that was done for her that day was nothing short of outstanding.
Days later, Idk if it was the doctor or a vet tech, but a member of the Uptown team called me just to check in on my girl to make sure she was okay.
The staples are now taken out and my babe is doing so well! The point I m trying to make is that my experience(s) with the Uptown Vet have all been great even when the circumstances are not. As long as I live in Minneapolis this will be our spot.
Thank you to the whole team. I appreciate every one of you!

I was super appreciative that Uptown Vet could get me in super last minute to my cat! Unfortunately, it's a little drab inside- wicker chairs with old cushions as wait seating and the rooms where the cats were seen didn't seem super clean to me. The doctor that saw my cat son was very nice and helpful- unfortunately the vet tech wasn't as helpful when I had questions. Also, the two times I visited, no one acknowledged me upon arrival for 60ish seconds. This doesn't seem like a long time but it almost conveyed to me that I was in the wrong place/unwelcome/etc until I was greeted.

I absolutely love Uptown Vet. I have a 6 month old lab puppy that has a few health conditions that cause urinary issues. Every time i have called uptown vet to schedule an appt, they have always been very accomodating.

Especially during the time of COVID-19 they were always there for me and my pup. She also gets so excited when she sees any of the vet techs, other places shes scared.

I highly recommend uptown vet to anyone who wants great care for their pet.

I really love this veterinarian for my cats, but I recently took a dog there to see Dr. Arlice Olson and her mannerisms with the dog were extremely weird. She walked in and didn t want the dog to touch her ... me and my boyfriend were both initially weirded out by how she was acting like the dog was a swamp monster (he s a normal happy healthy cute dog) lmao. She then proceeded to speak condescending and only did half of the check-up we paid for. When it was time she check his ears, she haphazardly attempted once to check one ear and when the dog didn t immediately lay there and open his ear up for her then hand her the tool to look through she gave up and didn t even do that part of the exam. Very weird unprofessional visit altogether. Not an animal lover Let it be known me and my boyfriend rescued this dog from a very bad situation, are paying for his shots and to get neutered and are re-homing the dog to a very good forever home we spent days and hours upon hours searching for.

Very highly recommend. Staff are helpful and friendly. Our cat had a nosebleed after surgery once (turns out it was normal), and the doctor came out to meet us at our car and personally explain what was up (and calm down two scared cat owners!). They're great, couldn't ask for a better vet.

A year or so ago, I brought my cat in for a check ...

A year or so ago, I brought my cat in for a check up as she was going to the bathroom outside of the box. The vet did a urine sample and also found that she needed her anal glands expressed. During this appointment I was disappointed with the vet's attitude and demeanor. She was aggressive and rude in the visit room and pretty much yelled at me that my cat would need to be sedated for the anal gland expression (as if it is my fault my cat doesn't like the vet's fingers up her butt??). I picked her up from her short stay, paid my bill and brought her home. Unfortunately, for the next few months she continued to have litter-box issues. After months of frustration, I brought her back in to see if she needed her glands expressed again. Turns out she didn't, but they did do another urine test to see if it was a urinary infection. Results came back positive and they recommended I put my cat on prescription food. When I picked up the prescription food and was asking questions if this was temporary or if she would need to be on the food forever (typically I feed my cats grain free so I wasn't super excited about feeding her prescription food with grains and byproducts), I was told she would need to be on the food forever since she has had a urinary tract infection for months. WHAT? This came as quite the surprise to me because the previous time I had brought her in, I was never told the results of the urine test and was under the impression only her anal glands were irritated (I assumed if they didn't mention anything - it was fine!). So long story short, my poor cat had an untreated UTI for months because the incompetent staff here failed to tell me the results of the urinary test and failed to provide treatment. There's no way I just didn't hear them tell me about this - because prescription food is really their only solution to this type of urinary tract issue and no where in my notes do they recommend I put her on the food (i checked). If you do decide to go to this vet - I would exclusively see the male vet as I remember my previous experience with him being far superior to the woman (who I also believe is the owner). That being said, I suggest you bring your pet elsewhere.

Have been bringing our dogs here for years and had wonderful service with the previous ownership who showed care and appreciation for us and our pets. My dog had surgery with uptown vet and started showing signs of infection. After calling 3 times being told "The doctor will call you back later" each time, I received a call from the Vet when I told the tech I was unavailable. After 3 more calls and a dog in worsening condition, I have yet to hear back. What a disappointing change in ownership.

Prices are fair especially for the care they provide. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a caring and trustworthy place to bring their pet.

My elderly pup has been going to Uptown Veterinarian for a little over 3 years now, and I recommend them to anyone looking for a vet!
They are easy to schedule with, extremely helpful over the phone, and have great overall customer service. My dog has had multiple dental surgeries and they always take great care of her. They genuinely seem to care about animals - and seem very sensible with their care (they don't push you to do every test under the book like many other vets). I've found their prices to be excellent - my dog's first dental surgery was half the cost I was quoted at another vet.
I moved last year, and there are several vets closer to me (one only a block away), but I can't see myself switching vets.

Over priced and unprofessional.

A shot was administered to my puppy that I did not authorize. The shot was not necessary. My word against theirs, they stated that I did authorize it but I would never. I am meticulous in nature.

They tried to tell me that vets don t make that much money (lol) and they wouldn t do that just to make money. Other reviews state new management sucks and clearly it does. The manager told my girlfriend she was done with this pow wow and hung up.

After these first two visits we will not be back.

Friendly service (once we received some) with knowledgeable vets and gentle care, but on our first visit we had to wait longer than usual to get checked in and shown into a room. We understand things can get busy, but it was 30 minutes after we arrived at our appointment time before anyone at the front even addressed us. In fact, it wasn't until another customer (who arrived after us) alerted them that we had come before them that the receptionist eventually acknowledged our presence . It was odd and slightly unprofessional but hopefully not a common occurrence here.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Smith and her team. This is the second pug I have had under Dr. Smith's care, and each of them has had significant health issues. They've been consistently fair, reasonable, willing to work with me on care management for long-term health concerns, and great with my dogs. Dr. Smith provides basic care and surgeries, and has referred me to others for special opthalmological and chiropractic care for my dogs. My last series of visits was for a life-threatening emergency. My dog was seen FAST, treated well, and everyone was so willing to help me with learning to catheterize him over the weekend when my only other option was the emergency vet. Great follow-up, always gets back to me quickly. Doesn't try to brush you off or make money by "add-ons." Reasonable cost, excellent quality basic care. Very nice people, too.

The prices are reasonable, but the staff is what makes this place special. Recently my cat was very sick and they not only helped me to get him back to normal they also followed up by checking periodically in to make sure he was doing alright. They clearly care very much for the animals they see and were very helpful and kind to a very nervous pet owner in need.

GO ANYWHERE ELSE. I recently brought in my cat for a lion-cut, and the service was fine, staff is very friendly, but when i got home i noticed that the cut is pretty uneven; kinda like when you mow the lawn and get mohawk stripes? but all over the place, including many noticeable places where the clippers went in too deep, several of which actually broke skin (!?), including on a couple of her teets. If the animal is fully sedated, this shouldn't be an issue? I'm angered beyond words, and this is the last time I'll ever trust these people to care for my animal. absolutely unacceptable!

I took my cat to Uptown Veterinarian for the last five years of his life and the entire team is wonderful to work with. They were always so good to him and looked out for his best interest. When we found the tumor on the bottom of his tongue, they were very thorough at explaining what was happening and what the options were. They looked out for my cat s well being, quality of life and patiently helped me do the right thing for him. When he was starting to struggle to eat, it was time to put him to sleep and they were all accommodating when I couldn t stop crying and let me stay with him as long as I needed to, let me say goodbye at my own speed. A couple days later, a sympathy card came in the mail and all of them signed it. I found that to be a total class act. Also, if you have pain medication left after your furry friend dies, they have a system set up to let you donate it to animals with owners who can t afford it.

A couple things I noticed right away when I started taking my cat there was they all truly appreciate animals. They have a separate cat waiting room and dog waiting room. The building is an old house and my cat felt at home right away. This is the best vet I ever took him to. I only wish they could have been his provider the whole time I had the pleasure of his company.

I would highly recommend

I love this vet clinic. I have a very strong willed, vet-adverse cat with the roar of a lion. The clinic has never shown fear of her. They handle her deftly and with care. I've also never felt like they were trying to sell me extra services I don't need or over-diagnose. They are honest and competent.

If you're here to see if you should bring your sick dog here the answer is yes, do it. The staff here is kind and knowledgeable, they take the time to answer your questions and get to know your pet... My dog actually wags his tail when the vet greets him. The staff is really patient with me when I frantically call them with a million questions too.

My dog got neutered here and had a quick recovery and eensy-weensy teeny-tiny stitches that were probably why his recovery was so fast. He was treated for giardia here after two failed attempts at a different vet, uptown vet was able to knock it out for good. He's also had routine vaccinations and blood work, which were reasonable in price ($150 for a 3 year rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, blood work to test for heartworm and tick-borne diseases, and 1 month supply of heartworm prevention). I'm really happy with this place and so is my pup.

I don't have a cat so I can't speak to their treatments of cats but there is a separate entrance for felines which seems nice.

Moved to the area so switched from our original vet. Never felt like we got the level of care from the staff from our previous vet. One time we needed a prescription for our dog and we got it prescribed over the phone and were told we would be notified when ready, but they forgot to call to let us know it was ready. Also, having a lab I feel like we were made to feel bad about his size and strength. Might be a good place if we had cats, but overall not the best experience for us.

Calvin and I have been going to Uptown Vet for a few years now. We started going there when we moved to uptown, and we've been going back even though we now live in Chaska. They are always very friendly, very helpful, and are willing to answer my questions patiently (new to being the sole person responsible for a dog). Not to mention, they are also very reasonably priced, compared to other vets we have visited. Also, I love that they love pitbulls! Some other vets we have been to have been timid about helping Calvin out, even though he's the sweetest dog ever. Not this place- pitbull love to go around. <3

Update: Dr. Smith was amazingly helpful when Calvin came in with breathing problems. She suspected Lymphoma and referred us to the U of M Oncology department. If she hadn't done that and we hadn't gotten treatment started so early, we would have had even less time with him. Thank you, Dr. Smith & team!

Also, the other doctor and the team who assisted when we had to put Calvin down were so wonderfully gentle with us and with Calvin. They gave us all the time we needed in a quiet room.

This veterinarian has taken fantastic care of very cat I have ever had. From strays to show-worthy purebreds, there is no other place in the Twin Cities I would trust to diagnose and treat my cats.

This is especially the case after our oldest cat suffered a very painful and messy bout of gastrointestinal distress. A quick diagnosis, short course of meds, and a change in diet was an effective and welcome alternative to the surgery we thought we were facing.

Bonus: they also treat dogs, and have he premises divided into separate sections to avoid any issues

I am so grateful for Uptown Vet. We essentially couldn't bring our cat to our last vet for treatment anymore because he reacted so violently to getting required blood draws. Uptown talked through several handling options with us, we settled on a plan, and our first appointment was a dream. Cat came home happy, and we now know we can get him the regular care he needs without it feeling like torture. We're so relieved!

I am disappointed with this vet. I emailed them personally to address my complaint months ago and they never responded. I had an appointment in December. I arrived a few minutes early for our appointment and it took a few minutes to be greeted. My dog and I were brought to our room and the vet technician was very friendly but seemed to be more distracted petting the dog than listening to my answers to her questions. We waited an HOUR to see the vet. No one had updated me that he was running behind or let us know when I should expect him.

When the vet did come in, he quickly looked at her lump and said he wanted to prescribe an anti-inflammatory. Since we just adopted the dog at the end of August, this was my first time bringing her (or any dog) into the vet. The vet did not do any sort of a physical exam even though it was his first time seeing her. He didn't even look at the skin of the lump until after I showed him a picture of what it had looked like before. I wish I had a better experience since this vet is so close to my house but I won t be returning.
