I primarily use the Upper Main Line Y to swim at the outdoor 50m pool. Prior to Covid things were always very smooth and I was so impressed with how they handled the challenges of being open during this pandemic. There is super clear signage about masks and distancing posted everywhere, the staff are really helpful and clients very respectful of each other. Also I have never experienced such. friendly group of swimmers as at this facility.

Front desk staff is so rude. They just want to remember that Rules are made by Human They are not stone carvings which cannot be changed.

Swim team is a disaster.... they cannot win with their own fellow YMCA teams. Please teach kids properly that s why we getting paid.

In addition to benefiting directly from the Y's great programs - in particular, the swim team and musical theater productions - my family appreciates the diversity and inclusiveness of the Y's membership. It is great to be associated with an organization that not only provides opportunities for physical health and social interactions, but also strives to make a positive impact in the community. It is the antithesis of the "exclusive" country clubs on the Main Line, and a wonderful breath of fresh air. Thank you!

A wonderful community gift. Different from the regular Ys. It is state of the art center. Very helpful staff, who try to make your visit as pleasant as possible. Lots of pools of course a hit with my kids ( their favorite being the indoor year round heated pool) Both my children are on the swim team which could use better coaches.
Membership is expensive relatively to the other YMCAs but being a member of this particular Y allow you to use any Y in PA and NJ. We frequently use the other facility when we travel.

Friendly staff, nice facility. But I need to use the therapy pool for my post surgery exercise. I was told, ever so explicitly that I can't do PT in the pool. A disappointment since the Y advertises its "Therapy" pool.

There are so many different things for my daughter and myself to do here that it just never gets routine or boring. All that I have to say is "Want to go to the Y?" and her face lights up.

We pay a relatively small amount yet gain access to SO much. Our boys go to the Y almost every day to play basketball so I feel as though our membership is well worth it. Not only are they exercising but they're enjoying all the social aspects of being there as well. I also love the fact that I can swim all winter long. :)

In 2 words: Feral Maze.

Chipping paint, rust, mold and bugs in showers, old circuit equipment, negligible floor exercise area (and dirty), lap lanes are never available.

Sadly, the worst YMCA in the area.

I have been a member of the UMLY for years, and worked at the Early Learning Center. UMLY has great programs, staff, and is a real asset to the community.

I take exercise classes, and use the Wellness Center. The offer of classes, as well as the level of instruction, is phenomenal. The Wellness Center is superb, with knowledgeable trainers instructing members on safe and effective ways to use the many machines. The Youth Wellness Center is also top of the line, with adjustable point of impact equipment. The staff creates personally designed exercise programs for children in a fun, carefree atmosphere. Over the years my kids have taken dance, tennis, basketball, soccer, cheerleading, and worked as summer camp counselors at UMLY. My youngest and I were in a musical together - a great experience. Everyone in my family looks back on their years at UMLY with a sense of pride and nostalgia.

In terms of facilities, UMLY has it all: pools, tennis courts, a nature center, fabulous grounds, art/music/dance rooms, an extensive daycare and babysitting program, volunteer programs, overnight camping, special events, and so much more. All in all, the UMLY is a fabulous place for people of all ages and abilities to nurture the body, mind, and spirit.

I want to thank the Y for opening the 50 meter pool this summer and helping me to feel safe going there by implementing recommended guidelines. They are doing a great job in these stressful times and deserve all of our support.

This YMCA is the worst among all the YMCAs nearby. The facility is out of date. Most program teachers are not dedicated and/or concentrated to the teaching. The private coach we hired for the swimming lesson was not effective at all.

Besides, this YMCA is ridiculously greedy. Starting from 7/1/12, the so-called youth program is actually a tool for them to collect money without providing any services.

The youth member will pay the monthly fee but cannot even any facility. The only benefit you get in return is the priority to sign up the classes!

Pure joy and a sense of community. Staff exceptional in their desire to help and their ability to help influence positive changes in my life.

I thrive in this community and am in great condition, I love love love coming to UMLY, it is often a THE highlight of my day.

The swimmers group is great t o work out with. My granddaughter's swimming abilities are far beyond the normal 8 yr old.

I cannot say enough about UMLY and how it has changed my life.

Main line Y has been around for ages. Still competitive with Lifetime fitness with the recent major renovations. Miinor quality of life issues are starting to creep in due to being part of a group of Y's. (some headphone Jack's in equipment don't work, Wi-Fi doesn't turn on until an hour after opening on Sunday's for some reason). Still a very good value.

the kiddie pool is pretty dirty, not well monitored by the one life guard, it is the farthest walk from the parking lot (does that make sense for toddlers?) - no indoor bathrooms, you have to walk up the hill and use the port o pot, last week the hand rail was broken off - very dangerous. Trades off the words "main line" in the name. Poorly managed - VERY hard to get someone to actually answer the phone. Online pricing is often different from the information the people at the desk have for various programs. Swimming lessons aren't that great - better to go to Malvern or West Chester for kids swim lessons.

Outstanding staff with great knowledge and a heart to serve. If you are looking for "just a place to work out" you can find that everywhere, this is more of a "home for your family" where you can do as much as you like the programs are geared for your level of desire. From "just having fun" to high level competition its available here.

We are lucky to live where we live and to have access to the UMLY. It's an incredible resource for the entire community. I was in a panic when I realized school would be starting virtual. My husband and I both work and we simply were not going to be able to do the remote learning with our first grader and kindergartner without some serious help. UMLY stepped in and stepped up to provide help with hits remote learning center. It has been a terrific experience for my family. I also want to point out that one of my children has a disability, Down syndrome, and the staff has been amazing to work with as we tried to find a way to accommodate her needs in the learning center. They truly value inclusion and understand the importance of making sure everyone in our community, including those with disabilities feel welcome and can thrive in their programs and facilities. I simply can't say enough about grateful I am to have this resource in our community. In addition to using the Learning Center for remote schooling, we have now signed up as members of UMLY, and I plan to continue to support them anyway I can.

Edit 9/4/18- there is still garbage that looks like its left over from Camp U.M.L.Y. Also the 3 weeks following my original review the garbage problem did not change, it even got worse the week after. (I have pictures time stamped from that weekend). Only now that Camp U.M.L.Y is over for the summer does the trash issue seem to be considerably less.

Maybe next year the counselors could be held more responsible for the trash left over by the children they are supervising

-- original post --

It's a shame to see such a great part of this areas community covered in garbage from the UMLY camp for children during the week. The people in charge of overseeing the kids need to make sure their lunch trash is making it to the garbage bins. When I notice a change I will happily change this to 5 star.

Edit- this isn't just a few pieces of garbage either. It's on the tennis courts. Near the gardens, basketball court and mostly where the picnic tables are.

My family feels quite safe at UMLY with the new safety protocols in place for COVID. The online sign-up system for the 50 Meter Pool is fantastic- would be great to see it used for the indoor pools when the 50 Meter Pool closes for the year. The fitness center is clean & safe, and it is nice to see our fellow members respecting the new rules in place about wearing masks and cleaning equipment.

No excuses when the Y is 5 minutes from home! Instructors are knowledgeable and motivating. I like the variety of workouts: HIIT, Spin, TRX, personal training and tennis. I definitely get my money's worth.

The Upper Main Line YMCA offers 2 hours worth of child watch so I don't have to rush my workout, a brand new family pool, multiple outdoor pools for summer time, and a variety of group exercise classes to choose from! We have had a great experience here.

My wife and I always have a great experience at our Y. The UMLY. My wife is working with a personal trainer at the Y. We are new to the exercise experience even though we are 50. Having access to a personal trainer is important to us. We need to learn the basics and benefits of exercising and a personal trainer does that with us.
The UMLY is always very clean and organized and the staff are very attentive. They monitor all areas and that s important to us not just for security but also engagement. It s great.

Why the hell with all the "we have 55 acres!"brag, Can't they have an ADULTS ONLY POOL????! Outside lap pool is overcrowded with Olympic wannabe swimmers and there's barely any space between the lap pool and where the screaming kids pool is. MAKE AN ADULTS ONLY OUTSIDE SWIMMING ARENA. Waste of money and time.

Our family loves UMLY. Our membership includes discounts on childcare, kids' programs, and camp. We love taking advantage of the monthly Parents' Night Out (wish it would go back to Saturday night, though!) The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We also enjoy the outdoor pool, but I wish they'd update the "Froggy Pool" a bit. Additionally, we'd LOVE a splash zone similar to the West Chester Y. Overall, we're happy to be part of the Y in our community!!

I love the camp programs. My son has just spent his third summer at the UMLY camp. He has learned swimming in the Kinderkamp. And playing tennis in the Tiny Tennis camp. UMLY feels like home to him. He will also attend the Eco-Camp, when the school is out coming fall. We also love the outdoor pools. I, in particular, the 50 m pool. My son just discovered the slide. I like the extensive tennis program for kids and adults. We will explore it in fall.

I was absolutely impressed with the entire camp staff and program as a whole! My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her summer. She began a little fearful of swimming, and left camp knowing how to swim all strokes. Her confidence in her ability to swim and her love for the water was truly a gift! The activities that were planned and well thought out definitely kept her engaged and eager to return each day! We'll be back next summer FOR SURE!

I live in Havertown where there is a top-of-the-line YMCA now, but my family still goes to UMLY because it has the most expansive aquatics options of any YMCA anywhere. You never have trouble finding a pool to swim laps in. The outdoor pools in the summer can't be beat. And my kids love the summer camp. Plus, the workout room is just as top-of-the-line as Havertown and the babysitting at YMCA's are a huge advantage over regular gyms.

You've done a fabulous job in keeping everything clean, calm and all of us safe. I use the Upper Main Line Y for the 50 meter outdoor pool and now the bubble pool. The reservation system for the outdoor pool and the ability to just walk outside and check in was so well done! Your staff is doing a great job! Congrats and thank you! Please keep up the good work and stay safe!

Really, 4.5 Stars. Facilities are great. Child watch on the weekend ends way too early! It s almost unusable for my family as we have morning obligations on the weekends. How the outdoor facilities (pool, playground, etc.) fare remains to be seen, as this is our first few weeks at this Y, and outdoor facilities open next week. So far so good...just extend child watch hours! :)

We love this facility- the staff is warm, friendly, and welcoming. The facility is clean, well-maintained, amply stocked, and the exercise equipment is new and/or in excellent condition. The pools are likewise well maintained, well staffed with lifeguards, and always clean. This is a great place to work out or to enjoy some time poolside with the family!
