I haven't had too many issues here, I have enjoyed my classes and most of my professors actually care about teaching and respond to you when you ask them a question. I haven't had any issues with financial aid or being able to get anyone on the phone, just the usual call and leave a message but they are mostly good about returning your calls. I am a fully online student and it is very simple to get what I need completed.

My only complaint is that when attempting to speak with my advisor in the CJ department it is next to impossible to get Mrs. Esparza on the phone or to answer an email. We even had a set appointment for a phone call and she couldn't even call on time, she waited 15 minutes to closing to decide to call me back... I work which is why I go fully online when I take time off I expect my appointment to happen not be blown off by a person who takes a two hour lunch every day at work.

The University of Houston Downtown is a fabulous, multi-cultural university offering undergraduate and graduate degrees for a wide range of business and professional interests. I'm been at UHD for 15 years and am proud of the system and the students who have come through my classrooms.

1. This university is unorganized. The advisors and staff are SUPER lazy. I always had to reach out to them and they always made me feel unwelcome. I graduated from here, but I will never recommend for anyone to come here. Parking is horrible/not safe There are homeless people everywhere especially if you take night classes it's dangerous.

I am currently enrolled for an MBA and every semester trying to talk to an advisor to get approved for courses is a nightmare. No one returns phone calls, email boxes are full, and so how exactly am I suppose to register? I have no idea, even their website is confusing and unorganized. The classes are fine but if I can't registrar then it really doesn't matter. If I could go back, I wouldn't by get my MBA here. This is absolutely ridiculous. Good Luck

I've studied philosophy and science at UHD, now I'm on my way to med school. The faculty here provides quality instruction. I love the library stacks, the facilities, and the academic life planted right in the middle of urban downtown Houston. There is so much to do and learn!

I enrolled to take my GED test here, when i innitally went they were aware of my immigration status which at the time did not seem to be a problem. The day of the exam I was asked for my I.D. which i have a Mexican Matricula (is a goverment issued id) they took one look and said it was DAMAGED therefore i could not take the test. I find it quite amazing that everyone with a matricula somehow was denied to take the test for the same reason!!. I feel i was desciminated against. If it was "damaged" like they stated then why allow me and the others to enroll????? all i wanted was to take my test to go back to school and better my self and instead i received a reality check. UHD discriminates against mexican people!!

I just completed my 1st semester at UHD. The classes were small, professors actually taught and we get 15 minutes to walk to our next class instead of the normal 10 minutes. The only complaint I have is parking. If you don't get to school before 9:00am, you will have to park miles away.

I went to a big university before transferring to UHD and was worried that I wouldn't like it. Fortunately it has been a great experience, I've had some of the best professors and have learned a lot more than I expected to! Most of the classes I have taken have been small (20-30 students), which is so rare these days. There are still some larger lecture classes but at least you have some options. The students at UHD all want to be here, which is nice as well. Parking does suck but it's relatively cheap if you get a UHD parking pass. I opted for the garage this semester and it's only $75 - it was $500 at my previous university! There's a lot of diversity here and everyone is different which is cool. More people should ditch the larger universities and give UHD a try, I think they would be pleasantly surprised.

Great school. Friendly professors, small classes makes learning easy. Advising staff is rude and doesn't show any interest in success of students. Over all my experience has been wonderful so far. Parking might be an issue if you don't like walking.

PROS: Decent school. central location. friendly atmosphere. small class sizes. competent professors. CONS: needs improvement on cleanliness and organization. college advisors need to actually know how to advise and not tell students to "go look in the catalog". registration can be a total nightmare. parking is ridiculous.

A great university that is still growing and will soon be one of the top rated in the city and in the state. It has lower tuition fees than most universities and provides great class schedules that meets people's needs. I definitely recommend coming here as an alternative to UH main.

Went to their open house this past weekend. Parking was a mile away, construction and detours everywhere. I can't see myself taking a class on this campus at night and having to walk that far to my vehicle at 9:00 at night. The university Professors were, for the most part, friendly but one of the transfer advisors turned me off when she said, "we really don't care about your Associates Degree." I realize they are a four-year University but there are some jobs that want a minimum Associates Degree so even if they "don't care" it still makes a difference to some employers. That said, their Business Program is highly accredited so I will probably end up going there anyway - if I can take most of my courses online since it is also VERY easy to get lost in the maze of wings and hallways of their buildings.

Tasha from financial aid isn't very helpful, especially with the attitude she gives to people. I had to talk to her twice. She interrupted me in both of the conversations. Didn't let me speak, as she felt that she already knew what I was about to ask. If you're not happy with your job, please find someone that will treat people better. She didn't offer much of a solution, when she could've had. Please, try to be more helpful, and kind to students that have questions about financial aid. Gosh!

If I were able to I would rate this "University" 0 stars. Unfortunately, it is not due to the school's curriculum or teachers, it would be due to how former students are treated after they graduate or transfer. I am currently in the process of purchasing a home. After 4 years there, of course I owe the school money. My lender needed information stating that the money owed was to the school and not the Federal government (which it was not). I spoke with Donald Hocks in the Business Department (cashiering) who treated me as if I owed HIM the money. He was rude and stated they do not provide letters (which the Financial Aid department stated they do). He was very condescending in his tone and even had the nerve to give me the wrong number to the head of Student Services. It wasn't until I called Financial Aide back that he even called me to give me the right number. However, Trina and Meghan Lane proved to be very helpful to me. Even though the information provided by Mr. Wicks was still incorrect. Since I have not been to the school in ages, I cannot access student services (he knows this). The blatant rudeness and disrespect has completely turned me off from this school. I can't believe he even works in a department known to have fairly good customer service. It was Financial Aid that surprised me with their desire to find the answer for me. Still... DONALD WICKS, learn how to speak to your fellow human beings with some respect!

Small classes and flexible schedules for today s fast-paced society. Parking has its good and bad days. I have bought the parking pass and paid at the meters, one semester without one. I like the atmospheric vibe from the diversity at UHD.

I am extremely unpleasant with my current visit. I have made an appointment to visit a counselor so that i could enroll for summer 3 term. The appointment was at 11:00 am this morning. I went to the advising center and i had to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes. Adviser were taking students coming after me who signed up to see an adviser as walk-ins. I am extremely disappointed and i left without seeing any of the advisers. I lost almost 3 HOURS of my life for no reason at all.

Been a student here going on 3 years and the financial aid department is the worse. You call any of the department people on the directory and no one ever answers and the regular number for the office is ALWAYS busy. The people working in the office are always loosing documents and will tell you one thing and someone else tells you something different. I greatly feel they try to keep the aid to themselves and force you to take out loans, I will be transferring next semester and have told everyone I know to stay away from this school.

My four years here were pretty good. Classes are small and (most) instructors do care. I do feel that students have to pick up more and more slack every year as they enter the workforce; just a degree isn't going to cut it (if you want a great job).

The biggest issue I had while attending UHD is that you must double check everything administrative while attending. Financial aid? They will mess something up unless you check on them and follow up often. Registration? Random class drops. Cashier? Random holds on your account. Student employees are particularly clueless when it comes to asking them important questions. Why are student employees in financial aid providing factually incorrect answers? A wrong answer can cost someone thousands, or tens of thousands.

Despite that I enjoyed my years here and would recommend UHD to anyone looking for a degree who will put in extra work to make it as valuable as possible.

I am on my third degree at UHD. The staff is amazing and rigorous. If you actually apply yourself you won't be allowed to get away with less than your best. The advising is a bit sparse, being a commuter school and all, but the business program is accredited by AACSB, which not many colleges are. I feel overwhelmed with the amount of work put on us by the teaching staff, but then again if you really want it, you'll do it. Nothing worthwhile is easy. For reference, I work more than 40 hours a week and I am a full time student with a family.

The UHD university programs are very well put together. The teachers are very concerned with the education of their students. The constant improvement of the Downtown Houston area continues to improve the educational experience for future students. If you like to take classes with wonderful people who are positive and smart, and teachers that value your development as a student then this university fits the bill perfectly.

The best part of this is the wonderful location in the true heart of the best city in Texas.

Thank you UHD.

This is by far the worst ever when dealing with advisers. Especially in the Criminal Justice department. I wish I can give zero zero's for that women which I will not expose. Stay away from that field at this school period. To get people to move I have to call constantly and rarely reply to emails when she want to. Why are you ever working there? GET ANOTHER JOB!!

I love this campus! I'd explored a lot of colleges and universities before finally coming to the conclusion that UHD is the right one. The campus is spacious, and offers a stable learning environment in a very liberal atmosphere. Just an all around great campus!

Good School for Resposible adults, this is not like the large universitys with the partys. For those that want to focus on changing their life and learning, becoming the educated person, or even changing society in a meaningful way , you wana come here. The views are great, it literally looks over all of downtown. Parking is good too if u come early or late afternoon, i recommend taking classes in the afternoon. The metrorail stops at the entrance its like a Hogwarts ,the nightclub and the spaghetti is also a rail ride away.

I absolutely love this University! UHD has given me an amazing opportunity. I'm an accounting major in my 3rd year. I've been able to land an accounting internship with Wells Fargo and am currently looking for a 2nd internship. A lot of the guys for my organization, professional accounting society (PAS), have landed internships with big accounting firms including the big 4. My advice is join clubs, be active, keep your GPA up, and network. The college of business is extremely helpful. They set up resume workshops, mock interviews, career fairs, etc. Take advantage of the resources as well. UHD is finally receiving the recognition it deserves and I will work tirelessly to uphold the reputation of my Alma Mater.

This school's staff is awful. Every time I have to deal with admissions or registers office the response is always " call back", "we have no update", "I couldn't say", "I'm not sure", It takes 2 weeks", etc..... what is going on here? It's summer time what could be the issue here? I thought Houston Community College was bad. Hack no! Not compared to UHD. Worthless!!!!!

The teachers here are very good but as far as anything administrative such as financial aid, registrar, ect, it is horrible. Don't waste your time at this school because out of all the schools I've been to in my life this is school is the only school where absolutely no one knows what they are talking about.

Simple to apply and get accepted. But actually registering is a headache. Hold after hold is placed on your account making the process long and tedious. The amount of paperwork needed is ridiculous even for transfers. Admissions staff doesn't seem very knowledgable. However financial aid staff and advisors were awesome
