Ordered a gluten free cake for my mom and it was delicious!!! Will definitely order from here again.
Ordered a gluten free cake for my mom and it was delicious!!! Will definitely order from here again.
Customer service was good and the things I got was good would go again
Best gluten free bakery in NYC, hands-down. Every time I am in the east village, I have to stop by for a treat. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this place. Go there, eat everything, rejoice.
The birthday cakes and cupcakes are a bit sweet for me, not as good as some other gluten free bakeries in the area but they do a great croissant and their bread is pretty good.
I visited NYC for the first time and as someone with celiac, I was so thankful for Tu-Lu's Gluten-Free Bakery. The staff was so friendly and helpful and even made me a special panini as I cannot have dairy either. The turkey panini was delicious, and my daughter who does not have to eat gluten-free loved the red velvet cupcake. I wish there was a TuLu's near my home. I would definitely recommend!
Service was rude while we were the only customers in the store. The pumpkin loaf was delicious though.
The head chef then came up to us to ask how we liked the gluten free bread, and told us that it came from "Everybody Eats," a famous gluten free bakery not far from me in Park Slope read more
This is the best gluten free place in the city. I have celiac disease and I swear by it. Their sandwiches, cupcakes, and cookies are incredible. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Definitely a place to go in NYC.
It was nice to find a gluten-free bakery. My family and I decided to stop in and get some pastries this evening. The kids and my wife picked a few pastries and donuts that were in the glass case. Both ladies started packing them into boxes and placed them in the bag.
The bad thing is when we got home. Half of what we ordered never made it into the bag.
I m not driving 2:30 hours back to NY.
Bad customer service.
I have to agree with the previous review on their lack of customer service. I went in there to sample a cupcake in hopes of placing a huge order for a birthday party but the short blonde-haired counter person gave me such a negative vibe that it turned me completely off. I was having the cupcake in the bakery and she just handed me the cupcake....no napkins and no plate even though she clearly had plenty of both on her counter. I had to ask her for both items and since this was my first time there it shouldn't have come from me to ask to be served properly. Mind you the other customers that she served before and after me that were eating in the bakery had their cupcakes served on a plate without them telling her to do so. So I wonder if it was a racial thing since I am Latina and those customers were Caucasian. Either way her lack of customer service caused that bakery to lose business. They are not the only gluten-free bakery around and thank goodness for that!
Limited selection, only one of 3 advertised paninis available, no cold bottled water, not particularly helpful staff.
This place is a huge find for anyone who needs to, or likes to, eat gluten-free. They have a great variety of baked goods and you would not guess they're gluten-free, as in they aren't nearly so crumbly or dry as typical things from other places. We've gotten tons of things from here and love it. Definitely recommend.
An excellent pastry without gluten. Typical American recipes ... a bit too much, it sometimes lacks variety ;-)
Bought some cookies and doughnuts for the staff. The doughnuts were a huge hit. A bit pricey but the reaction was priceless
I haven t always been gluten free but because of a wheat allergy later in life it s been a struggle. I ve tried a ton of gluten free baked goods. If you didn t tell me this place was gluten free I would just think it was a cute bake shop. The cupcakes are soft n have amazing flavor! The dark chocolate brownie is better than any regular brownie that I ve had. This place is a must go to!!!!
they made my gluten free wedding cake. It was delicious and gorgeous, and they were very helpful!
I got mini cupcakes and a cheesecake from here for a coworker who is gluten-free, both were incredible! The cheesecake was one of the best I've ever had, I wouldn't have known it was gluten free if I hadn't been the one to buy it! And the prices are really good, especially considering most gluten free places are very expensive.
I guess it was the holidays but the counter person seemed fairly indifferent as I asked questions regarding allergy content for my hyper allergic child.
Visiting NYC for St. Paddy 's Day. Goodies for Tulus a wonderful surprise from Daughter-in-law and Son. Hope to visit Bakery on another visit. Cupcakes were Great!
My favorite bakery in NYC :)
As of Jan 15 , the store is closed permanently :(
They offer vegan alternatives which is nice. The agave brownie was very good, I can highly recommend it. The bakery is not very big but there's high chairs and you can spend a nice time there. I liked it an would go again! Minimum credit card purchase is 7$!! Bring cash!
The healthy eating response to Magnolia. The cupcakes were awesome, very fresh and moist while not being overpoweringly sweet. And the vegan cookies were amazing, especially the chocolate chip and the snickerdoodle. The oat chocolate chip one was a bit too moist, kinda weird actually. But still good enough to devour, like everything else here
Awesome gluten free sandwiches and treats. The coffee cake is the best.
Wow. Very surprised. Ive tried at least 4 or 5 gf bakeries and this is the only one ive found making pastries similar to non-gf. Ill definitely be back and recommend giving it a try.
Got an amazing gluten-free birthday cake. It was a little pricey, but well worth it. Staff is super nice too. Have gone back a few times since then, and have had consistently positive experiences.
I had a carrot cake cupcake, yum, my favorite! I also had the bread pudding, this is my all time favorite dish . The chocolate croissants are wonderful, they would be my recommended choice.
Best Gluten free bakery ever i love it they have the best pumpkin loaf and i just loved it so much
Came here after 8pm for a late night snack with a GF child - the woman behind the counter was very friendly. We bought a chocolate brownie and cinnamon donut, still fresh and yummy! They even had a notebook on the counter so you could write about your experience at the bakery. I would come here again for sure!
Ordered a red velvet cake for delivery. The cake was excellent, everyone loved it! However, the cake arrived smooshed against the side of the box. It had slid off its base during transit and Tu Lu's conveniently placed a note on the box saying that they were not responsible for anything that happens when it leaves their store. I think they should be since they charge a price for it.
Also, when I called to put in my order, the guy on the phone did not seem interested at all in taking it. I was waiting for him to tell me my options but I had to prompt him as he gave one or two word answers. It ended up being one of those awkward conversations that you just wanted to finish up right away.
Attention Celiac Brides or Grooms! My husband and I got married on June 2, and I'm proud to say that Tu-Lu's provided us with a gorgeous, decadent gluten-free wedding cake. It was vanilla with buttercream frosting, and we were blown away by how delicious our very first bite was. We actually rushed back to our table as everyone was dancing so we could devour the slices that were left at our place settings. The staff was great, especially Jennifer Wells, who answered all of our questions leading up to the big day, and the cake designer gave us exactly the classic, elegant look we had requested. We have a few more slices in our freezer, which we plan to eat on our one year anniversary. We can't wait!
Fantastic gf baked goods. I loved it. So nice to be able to eat everything in the shop. I had a panini, donut and croissant (I was hungry, and shared them!) All yummy.
Great gluten free bakery but the customer service is absolutely terrible. Don t even get up when i walk in and ignore me until i asked what i wanted. Felt like the atmosphere was buy your stuff and leave
The counter staff makes or breaks this place. Sometimes they're so rude and pushy that you'd think you'd walked uninvited in their home. If you walk in at 9:58, they'll tell you they're closed.
Mediocre baking, and really high prices. The only reason to stop here is if you absolutely have to be gluten free - otherwise, go to a real bakery. The one exception is their coffee cake, which is exceptional. Otherwise, I'd say head downtown to Babycakes for your gluten free baked goods.
Good place for gluten free pastries & such. Darlin' Daughter (the celiac among us) was overwhelmed with the selection. I asked ifthey had pasteis de nata; alas no.. But they did humor my bad Portuguese :)
Found excellent reviews for Tu-Lu's and they did not disappoint. From the quick responses to my calls and emails to coordinate birthday treats while visiting the area, to on-time delivery on New Years Eve at Times Square, Tu-Lu's and their delivery partners provided personalized, moist, & delicious cupcakes by the promised time for our birthday celebration. The cinnamon coffee cakes were also fantastic, I wish I had ordered more. Definitely recommend trying their goods while in the area or ordering for delivery!
Wife came all the way from Perth Australia to try. Very very happy
I love that it is full gluten free but has very little variety. I recommend for guns of the cupcakes, but it's not worth the trouble to go there, because there is no way of any tourist place
Thanks for the GF smile, those caramels didn't last long, those corn jalepeno muffins are gone, and that brownie was just like smooth fudge! Thanks Tu Lu!
My favorite bakery in NYC :)
As of Jan 15 , the store is closed permanently :(
So happy to have access to their delicious gluten free goodies! Loved their pecan pie ordered for Thanksgiving. Sometimes they have day before's cupcakes 50% off which are always great tasting
I ordered a birthday cake from Tu-Lu's for the first time last week and it exceeded our expectations. Delicious, fresh - I picked a very simple design and it was perfect. Jamie was super friendly and accommodating! They are my new GF bakery in the city! thanks again!
Bought cinnamon donuts and various other treats...after trying the donuts I made my husband turn around to buy more! Absolutely delish!!!
I have been to Tu-Lu's many times and absolutely love their vegan agave muffin. My only complaint is the staff. Extremely unpleasant and unprofessional. It really ruins the experience.
Cute little hole in the wall. Its hard to make vegan goods tastes good in my opinion but Tu-Lu's did a great job with the vegan brownie. Only 4 stars because there werent many things to order when I went.
Great place if you want avoid gluten and eat great sweets
Love this place esp the gluten-free paninis...the cup cakes are good too...great gluten free spot!
Horrible customer service over the phone. Very rude and not helpful. Extremely disappointed.
Cute small bakery. I was looking for vegan baked goods so I got across this bakery. Even though this bakery is 100% gluten free, they also offer a few dairy free options. Very friendly lady answered all my questions and even gave me info about other vegan bakeries. I tried a couple of the mini cupcakes and a brownie, super fresh and delicious.
But still good enough to devour, like everything else here
Thanks for the GF smile, those caramels didn't last long, those corn jalepeno muffins are gone, and that brownie was just like smooth fudge! Thanks Tu Lu!
Pumpkinbread and the vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies were fantastic. The location is just far enough away that it isn't too busy, but not so far that it's inconvenient. It's pretty small though and if 4 or 5 people showed up at once it would feel crowded. There's a minimum on credit cards so bring cash unless you're buying a few things.
This place is okay. It's nice to know that it's in the area if you want a treat. I've never had anything that I feel like I have to run back for next time, though.
Each time I go in there, I try something different in hopes of finding a favorite.
The staff is pretty laid back and nice enough.
I think a paint job and brighter lights would make this place a bit more appealing aesthetically.
Love that there is a reasonable option for gluten-free bake goods that tastes good. Tu-Lu's is right on the same block as the famous Veniero's bakery, which is nice since for folks who want any and everything.
Options for everyone.
Their coffee cake is delicious. Cookies on point. They have loaves of bread for taking. I haven't tried any of their sandwiches, but one day.
Corn bread is tasty.
All I can say pop in try it out.
Enjoy!
Stopped by and picked up a coffee cake and chocolate cupcake. Pastries were so good I would have not guessed they were gluten free if I was blindfolded.
My husband, who is not gluten free and doesn't have a sweet tooth, enjoyed the pastries too!
Highly recommend this place.
We walked in this Saturday 5/7/2012 for the first time. The place is small, but it's absolutely amazing. I've tried a lot of gluten free and most of the time, it has some kind of aftertaste. Everything we tried was delicious and fresh. I couldn't tell by the taste that it was gluten free. Actually I felt that cupcake (I tried chocolate with cream cheese icing) was much better than famous "Two Little Red Hens" bakery. It was moist and icing was awesome. I also tried coffee cake. It was absolutely delicious and tasted totally like the real deal and I just couldn't believe it was gluten free. My husband had pumpkin cake (highly recommend it and I usually don't like pumpkin anything) and we tried a cookie (I had it the second day, it was good but I am sure it was better fresh). This is our favorite bakery now!
If you want yummy desserts that are also gluten free this is your go to place!
My fiance is gluten intolerant, so we were eager to visit Tu-Lu's for the first time. It's a little out of the way because we dont come to the East Village often, but we made it over there. He wanted to try all the dessert/pastry options but we settled on the coffee cake and brownie. The employee was very nice as we talked about when the shop first opened. We'll definitely be coming back.
Petunia's in Portland, OR is the touchstone of gluten-free bakeries. Tu-Lu receives a lot of hype online but the bakery could really up its game. The muffin texture is gelatinous. The vanilla buttercream muffin was an A. The shop aesthetics are an A+. Customer service was okay.
Awesome gluten free sandwiches and treats. The coffee cake is the best.
Ok...so I seek out GF bakeries across the country and maybe that biases me. This bakery was decently priced, but the options were only OK and the food while OK, was not stellar. It was moist, but flavor was not super. Tried a red velvet cupcake, raspberry muffin and a cinnamon crumb loaf. Would eat there again if going by, but wouldn't seek them out. Also, the person at the counter was less than inviting, basically got the cold shoulder and wasn't very friendly. I thought By The Way Bakery (in NYC) was much better.
The desserts are great, but unfortunately the customer service is horrible. I tried to order a cake on the phone for my roommate's birthday and I was put on hold 3 times. Then I asked about cupcakes and the lady said she will have to call me back. I am not sure if it was a lack of man power or if she was new and was not sure of the prodcuts being served. I felt like I was pulling teeth asking what flavors are offered. Plus, when you enter the 11th street shop, there is not many products on display to buy. You have to buy whats left from the day. To insure you get what you want, you either have to call a head and request the product or come in when they first open. Anyhow, I was very disappointed and felt like the company did not want or was not interested in my business.
Though it's a little bit out of the way, the food definitely makes up for that. Great gluten free food and baked goods. Nice staff and always helpful. Everything in here is gluten free, so no need to ask about that. Offers a selection of vegan and dairy-free products as well.
Wide selection of products. Only gluten free shop. Prices not high. Highly recommended for gluten intolerant
Very tasty, reasonably priced gluten free goodness. Some items also dairy free, everything clearly labeled, so you can feel comfortable with everything you pick up. Ask for the GF pie crusts during the holidays. Love this place!
The worst customer service experience ever. I would not recommend this bakery.
A treat every time I'm in NYC. Generally walk from Washington Square Park to here for a after dinner sweet. Staff is awesome and the food is even better.
Customer service was good and the things I got was good would go again
Ordered a gluten free cake for my mom and it was delicious!!! Will definitely order from here again.
I always love coming here for gluten-free goodies! Everything is gluten-free and various things are also dairy free. It's all delicious; I especially like the coffee cake and the cupcakes. Would definitely recommend!
Gluten-free heaven, plain and simple. We love the Red Velvet Cupcakes with Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting and Snickerdoodle Cookiedough Balls.
Very good gluten free and vegan goodies. The dark chocolate brownie was amazing.
The mini cupcakes are okay. The cake tasted a little too "corny", however, the frosting was amazing!
Nothing special. Tiny place. Customer service wasn't good, unfortunately. I was disappointed :(
I was really happy and surprised by the great service I got at Tu-Lu's. A speciality bakery in the middle of the east village has the right to be pretentious and annoying. But it was neither. The man at the counter was really friendly and helpful. The selection was really great. The brownies are the BEST! I will be back.
Celiac person's heaven. Staff was great. She answered all our questions the ingredients. Cozy inside.
We LOVE LOVE LOVE this bakery - the products are amazing - there is no place like this in the city! My boyfriend and I just found out that we are gluten intolerant, and luckily we found Tu Lu's bakery. EVERYTHING tastes great! Thanks so much Tu Lu's!
Best gf bakery in NYC! Chewy, moist, soft, not overly sweet. Ppl who don't eat a gf diet prefer it to other treats too!
Highly recommend!!!
Only those who have a real gluten allergy or intolerance know how hard it is to get a good sandwich, especially at a bakery or restaurant anywhere. Tu-Lu's changed my perspective 10-fold! Their paninis are spectacular; they remind me of authentic sandwiches like the ones I ate before my diagnosis, but even better. All of the desserts they offer are spectacular. My fiance is a chef (not gluten free obvs.), and even he was impressed by the quality and taste of their baked goods. I recommend the olive oil loaf with the orange glaze, and the turkey panini. Thank you to Tu-Lu's for elevating my expectations with your spectacular gluten free fare! Now if only they would open a bakery in Miami, that would be a dream come true!
Your gluten free bread is horrible. You say gluten free and dairy free but you use color sprinkle cause cancer in laboratory animals. Trade Joe has better gluten free bread and bagels for less money. Need to remove the artificial coloring sprinkle and make a bread so good that everyone enjoy.
