Such a unique place! A much needed addition to JFK. The food at the Pool Bar was delicious and the view of the runway spectacular. We were visiting a friend who was staying overnight, and we plan on returning for a swim or cocktails.

It is very convenient for travelers flying in or out of JFK Terminal 5 (Jet Blue), as there's an elevator in baggage claim that goes up one level to the hotel. I stayed there on two separate nights in two different rooms, and the beds were the most comfortable I have slept in in any hotel. Other pluses: The room was very clean and very well insulated; the bathroom was large and had a very good shower. Minuses: No closet -- just a few hooks to hang two or three pieces; a long walk to the check-in desk and then a long incline up to the elevators to the rooms; and check in time is late (4pm) and check out is early (11 am). Overall: best for one night stays, especially if arriving late or departing early. And best hotel option for JFK

Awesome hotel! I'd give 5 stars if there were options for food other than the restaurant, you literally can't get anything delivered and all the food is very expensive, typical hotel prices and more. My advice is to grab food from the food court within the terminal, inside security when you leave your flight. Other than that the hotel is very cool.

I love the fact the place conserve the history and the way that they set it up is beautiful. What I did not like is that you have to pay for the pool. Other than that, it is a beautiful and convenient place to stay if you have a night lay over, it is pricey but beautiful.

Impeccible renovation that reimagines this mid 20th Century icon for relevancy in the 21st. Serene atmosphere, gracious staff. Rooms are handsomely designed and curated for comfort and convenience. The quietest hotel in the city is interestingly in the midst of JFK. The historic public spaces are a time machine back to an era when flying was a gracious, stylish experience. Have a meal in the Paris Cafe, a cocktail in the Sunken Lounge while listening to the Solarie board flip through destinations and selections from the 1960's songbook, or a coffee in the lobby admiring vintage 60's autos and flight uniforms...all the while enveloped in Eero Saarinen's love poem to the romance of flight.

The other reviewer s complaints of noise were true. My family and I stayed two nights to check out the pool and hotel. On the last night, we decided to sleep early to wake up to go to the pool (it s free from 7am to 10:30am and after that is $175 for our family for an hour and 45 min which is another thing I don t get- why is the pool a separate charge and an expensive one too for hotel guests). During that last night, someone on our floor across our room broke out into some fight and cops were called. My 9 year old brother and I were sharing a bed and he woke up scared at 2 am because he thought he heard gunshots. He couldn t fall asleep afterwards as easily so stayed up until like 5 and subsequently kept me up. We couldn t wake up at 6 to get ready for the pool that day and missed it. If we weren t checking out today, we would have to pay to go to the pool after 11. The food is also very expensive here so we already spent like a grand with the room.

Overall, that left a bad scar on my memory of this place. They should charge an extra day for people that are as loud enough to call cops to stop it. I did not come here to hear someone s drama unfolding.

Very atmospheric hotel, inside did not live, but the hall and the place around the freaky. I advise you to visit when you are in JFK, get to terminal 5 and walk along the street (it s faster). A lot of old things and design in the style of the 60s, etc.

This hotel is extremely aesthetically pleasing. They have done an amazing job at curating the vibe and feel of what this hotel used to be..the music that plays in the halls sets the tone, in addition to the vintage cars parked in the parking lot and just the design and decor in general in common areas as well as in the room...however we were disappointed that after 30 mins of checking in there was a fire alarm test for the next hour or so. We specifically booked this room to get a few hours sleep during our 8 hour layover and it was ruined without warning...I might have been able to live with it If it wasn't for our 1 year old baby needing the rest as well.

This destination is a must see if you can get over the kinks. I am rating it 4 stars because the physicality of the place in untouchable and I am only hoping the poor service is a result of a young hotel. The thoughtfulness and design is what makes this place worth a visit.

HOWEVER the drinks range between 15-30 and food is wildly overpriced at all food locations except the food hall. The servers, as nice and kind as they were, had no standard of practice (no sections or process for service). Often times instead of having a hostess/host find me for my reservation, I was standing and waiting for them to greet me. All of the staff on premise was constantly on their phones and would typically only spoke when being spoken to. I do not blame them. I more so blame their training.

As for the good things, check in is self serve, so no waiting in lines. The bed in the room was super comfy and the bathroom was spacious. It was surprisingly quiet for being next to the airport and the rooms were themed and fun as expected. While the pool was unique and probably a one of a kind experience, good luck finding a chair. The gym is INCREDIBLE and I highly recommend checking out the facility if you're visiting (supposedly it's $40/month for a membership). The Connie was fun and right on with the theme. Definitely get a reservation for ALL the amenities especially the Pool Bar.

Overall, I would return after some time to see if things have changed. But I can see TWA Hotel being a perfect destination for a long layover or frequent traveler.

Perfect for night before early flight w/ kids (7 and 9)-- rooftop super heated pool, kid friendly bar in old school TWA plane outside, ice skating rink, twister room-- just an all around great place for the family or even a date night. Definitely going back.

What a blast from the past! One of NYC iconic places. What a great experience it was! Not sure how the hotel is but everything else for a few hours rest stop not bad at all! Definately worth the visit!! Drinks at the pool bar definately not overpriced especially having the views of the airplanes take off and land and the parking rate for the few hours there better that the regular parking lot of JFK.

I give this place 4 starts because I didn t spend the night. I spent the day with my mother for her birthday and we toured all the venues here, one cocktail at a time. Drinks and food are good not great but this place is unlike any other and an experience in itself. I suspect the venue will become more lively as time goes on. Definitely worth a stop if you enjoy mid century modern architecture or history.

Very cool concept, and cool style execution. Brings back the glory days of the TWA terminal and the TWA experience for those of us that remember it, from the red carpets, to the long tunnels, to the funky little elements that made your travel experience special, it's a well executed replica of the old TWA experience.
However, the execution as an actual functional hotel needs a fair amount of work. The experience getting there from terminal 7 was complicated. We called the hotel who told us to take the JFK AirTrain. However after lugging our children and luggage up to the AirTrain platform, the signs indicated it wasn't running and we should take a bus. After lugging the bags and kids back down and waiting for a bus for about 15 minutes and having no idea when it was coming, an airport employee approached us and after asking us where we were going suggested that we try the AirTrain again as, despite what the signs said, and that the inter terminal outer loop "might be running". We lugged everything back across the street and up the escalator again and waited and finally an AirTrain did show and get us to the terminal stop we could get to the hotel from. Now this might not all be the hotels fault, but if I ran an airport hotel, I'd make damn sure that I went out of my way to ensure that customers who landed at a prime arrival time for international flights could get to my hotel with ease.
The check-in experience was fine and the staff was friendly, the room was hip, cool, retro-modern and environmentally conscious, but function left much to be desired. Opening the sliding door to our bathroom took a level of effort equivalent to pushing a full size car stuck in the snow out of it. The snazzy power shades were probably some cheapo brand that they found on ebay, they were all off track, warped, and the three side by side shades didn't have any intelligent hembar alignment so they didn't move in sync even though they were operated by a single up or down button.
Outside of all that we did get a decent night's sleep before our next flight in the morning.

The hotel and staff were very nice, but we found gum stuck to our bathroom floor and the shower isn t fully enclosed so water goes everywhere when you use it. The flat screen TV doesn t stay in place when you swivel it to view from bed. Also, the fire alarm went off at 5am and we didn t know if it was real or not for about 15 minutes until they made an announcement that it was a false alarm and turned it off. Later, a security guard woke us up again to tell us our door was a little open instead of just closing it for us. They did refund $100 off our bill which was nice. All in all it was a cool experience- good food at the restaurant and fun rooftop pool (could be a little warmer this time of year). I would stay here again just for the nostalgia factor.

What a joke this place is! So much potential but ruined by bad management and decisions. Firstly, this review is more for those that are interested in staying overnight. If you are just going to pop in for a visit, it may be fine if you are not on a schedule and have patience. Service is horrible - slow, unenthusiastic, unhelpful and inexperienced. Poorly designed rooms and poor food everywhere but the Paris Cafe which also had great service. They do not allow much detail here - check TripAdvisor reviews which are more accurate. The reviews previously left here are more for drop in visitors which is the only reason they are good. If you are just looking at the design aspects and don't care about service or quality, you will be fine. Health department shut down food court. Pool and pool bar were not open as promised. Fire alarms going off. Holes in walls and many broken or non working things. No hot water, no water pressure, no coffee maker, no fridge, no microwave, no closet, no room service, one robe for two people, air conditioning worked during day but not well at night so we did not sleep well. TV worked sometimes and other times not...was in horrible place so person sleeping next to wall had to climb over the bed or other person to get out. Example of food service except at Paris Cafe - When served our cheese board, the server actually said, Oops, something fell off. Let me go find it. We were under the impression it would be picked up off the floor and put back on. No training, no desire to try....had to ask for everything and then long waits and sometimes it actually arrived but other than drinks never worth the wait. Good luck if you decide to stay. May be newer but operators should know better

Brand new clean and crisp feeling with a 60s retro design look. A few museum grade displays with plenty of detail to wander around and look at. Some are TWA history oriented some are just 60s lifestyle oriented. We stayed on the 8th floor and upgraded to a Airport runway side view. It was a great bird's eye view to watch all Runway traffic takeoff and landings and vehicles going about their activities. I forgot to bring my aircraft band radio to listen to ground traffic control. That would have made it interesting. Even though the planes were taking off less than quarter mile away the 6 layer windows made the room more quiet than your average hotel next to the road. Plenty of lounges and restaurants to eat or spend time at.
Rooftop heated to 94 degree pool with a great view. A little cool if you get out into cold wintertime air. Spacious basement Fitness room with a large locker room and numerous private showers.

My husband hosted a business event at the TWA hotel and I tagged along to check out the new renovation. The hotel seems like a lot of fun and I want to go back to explore it more. I ended the night with a drink in the Sunken Lounge, which is lovely. I would definitely get to the airport a few hours early to get a drink and enjoy myself before flying out.

While I can't talk about the rooms, I can speak a little about the event space. The hotel had only been open about a month and while they'd hosted several events, I imagine they are still using these as a learning experience. Overall the space accommodated the event really well and I would recommend it for anyone wanting to host an event in the area. A highlight was how much support they gave setting up the computer and sound system--my husband said he's rarely hosted an event where things went to smoothly on the technical end. The low-point was trying to get some kind of cart to take the event supplies down to the space, which took a very long time; I imagine that is something that will be fixed as they work out the kinks. It was a little tricky getting people to the event space just because of the way the hotel is set up (I actually volunteered to direct people as people were arriving); the hotel info desk was very helpful and accommodating, but I think a little signage might also help. (Overall, I love the way the hotel is set up and it feels like they have a lot in a small space--you want to wander around and explore.) While the event space is on the lowest floor (i.e. no windows), it felt spacious and had the decorative details that seem to be the hallmark of the TWA hotel (also, the bathrooms were really fabulous). The food was good. My one complaint is that while the Sunken Lounge Bar is fully stocked, the event bar was very, very basic if you wanted a mixed drink and wouldn't let me pay cash (I had been trying to save drink tickets). I managed to cobble together a whiskey and vermouth (they didn't even have bitters, so I couldn't have a Manhattan), but clearly they were set up to accommodate liquors with soda/juice rather than cocktails. I hope they expand the bar and maybe offer a menu for drinks that are part of the catered package but also drinks that the more particular of us can actual purchase (and maybe have a trained bartender in the space). This is a very persnickety complaint and I wouldn't bother with it in a less fabulous hotel, but given the high standards and attention to detail overall, it just felt like an oversight. Still, it was a really great space and the staff seemed very helpful; I wouldn't be surprised if most of the little hiccups my husband experienced are smoothed out before they've been open three months, since the staff seemed very attentive and there was a lot of attention to detail in the hotel.

Loved our stay here! Ambience is amazing - super retro and a cool architectural space. We took the time to explore and loved the exhibits scattered throughout the hotel. We also enjoyed getting a cocktail in the "Connie", an airplane with a bar inside. The rooms are a little small, but we would love to visit again!

Missing a star because they need some significant work on their service levels (many people including myself were noticeably unhappy with various things) but the place itself is beyond description. Just there just to see it! Architecture buffs won't want to leave and the renovation has been done to perfection. The rooms are small but beautifully appointed with authentic Knoll/Saarinen furniture and our runway view provided an entire evening of entertainment. Hopefully, service will improve and the place will be near or at perfection.

We celebrated my dad's 80th birthday at The TWA Hotel because my dad worked for TWA for over 35 years.
The ambiance is like stepping back into the late 1950"s early 1960's from the museum's, antique cars, twister room, pay phones, etc. Marcus from the Paris Cafe handled out party. The Paris Cafe deserves 5 stars for service, food, and ambiance. We had a fantastic time.

The location is great. For travelers, it is the closest hotel to take a rest.
However, it is hard to take your heavy luggage to find your room.
Also, for my one night stay, the towel isn't clean. Don't know it is an accident or a daily issue.

The hotel is a work of art that is nearly heaven for airplane enthusiasts. The interior of the hotel is beautiful, and the rooms are also very nice. It is expensive, but it's right in line with NYC plus airport prices. The rooms that face the runway are easily worth the extra money. The rooms are nearly silent, I had no issues with outside noise. Hotel staff were very helpful. I plan on staying again soon.

Being a longtime New Yorker and a fan of mid-centu...

Being a longtime New Yorker and a fan of mid-century architecture and design, my wife and I and another couple decided to do a one-night mini staycation at the TWA Hotel at JFK last weekend. We booked an Executive King Suite with Runway View. Looking at all of the room options online this seemed like a great choice based on the website pictures. We arrived on Sunday afternoon, checked in and went to our room as it was ready. There are two separate hotel wings that are accessed from the main lobby through the former walkways that formally led to the old TWA gates. The lobby level is in the middle so there are two floors about the lobby level and two below. Our room was one flight down. Upon entering our room, we were quickly taken aback. While the room was nicely appointed and spacious the wall of floor to ceiling windows did not look out onto the runway. Instead they were eye level with airport terminal traffic. There was no possible way to see the runway through the terminal buildings and we were on full display to the steady stream of passing cars. While there were automatic window blinds they were blackout only blinds so our choices were total darkness or being in full view of passing cars. We quickly went back to the front desk and were told that there were "no other room options available". This was surprising as it was a Sun night and the room was expressly advertised as a "runway view" room. With no other options we accepted the fact that we would have to lower the blackout blinds and flip on the lights making it feel like a windowless room. To make matters worse our room (#342) was located directly above the employee's entrance to the building. The door was a heavy metal door literally located below our bed. Every time a person entered or exited the building it made a loud crashing sound which reverberated and amplified into the room. We of course did not realize this until later that evening when we went to bed. All night long and into the morning employees entered and exited the building, jarring us awake and driving us crazy. On check out we made mention of this to the person on desk duty and they just shrugged their shoulders, not offering any type of consideration or empathy other than "we'll make a note about that". This was a huge disappointment to say the least and I really didn't want to make a scene or push it as I was exhausted having not slept the entire night.

With regard to the rest of the hotel I really think they have done a great job with the restoration and making you feel like you were stepping back in time. We had dinner at the Paris Cafe which was very good however at 7:30 they had run out of 3 appetizers (which the waiter was apparently unaware of). The fish and chips were excellent and all of our other choices were satisfactory. There are 2 lobby bars, a ski chalet style bar on the roof next to the pool and the "Connie" bar on the jetway which is an old plane that has been transformed into an intimate cocktail lounge. All of the bars (which we tried) were great and each featured a unique set of cocktails, all of which were good. Other features were seating on the upper levels of the main lobby, a Herman Miller reading room, TWA gift shop featuring some nice TWA themed merchandise, a gym outfitted with Peloton bikes and other equipment, a heated outdoor wading pool overlooking the runway (however it was packed with screaming kids), coffee bar, Shinola mini-boutique and a few food court options however it seems that they are still building the choices out as there were only two options (ice cream and premade sandwiches).

Overall the entire experience was dampened by the room view (or lack thereof) and being kept up all night by the banging employee entrance door. Making matters worse was when expressing our concerns we were politely dismissed. I would definitely recommend checking out the hotel however be vigilant on what room you are given or better yet, go only for drinks and a bite to eat.

I was hesitant to stay. But did it anyway. You can tell they are still ironing out kinks. There is signage up now in Terminal 5 directing you to the hotel. Take the Elevator up...button on the inside indicates the hotel. Exit and go thru the tunnel. You will end up in the main hall. Finding the reception desk is a bit tricky. Go down the steps on the right. Keep looking right and you will see reception. Kevin ...the front office assistant manager was great sorting out our rooms. It is disappointing that food options are soooo very limited in the evening. If you arrive late, dont expect to get a meal from the hotel. The rooms mini bar has good snack options. Excellent drink options as well. Bed is comfortable and rooms are bright. However, NO closets, no dressers, nada. No coffee maker either. Very limited space to hang clothes. No iron, but steamer under the sink.. Considering all the issues the price for a nights stay is excessive in my opinion. Would I stay again? Maybe. The place has great potential.

Not customer friendly. The high end Hotel cant even provide a coffee maker in the room. But the highend hotel HAS a fully stocked bar and snacks from top shelf alcohol to favorite champagne / beer and wine. And if you want to know the cost, just logon to their website to see how much money you will be price goughed. Forget about breakfast. Lastly, if you actually find the way to the hotel, you better plan to stay there because you wont find your way out very easily, you will not find anyone around to ask.
