Large patio, dedicated staff. Same food and drinks served at Tir na Nog, Speckled Hen, and Montee's.
Mostly irish-pub style food; my favourites are the burgers. Quite large portions.
Well made drinks; my favourites are the shooters.
Used to work here, so I can't objectively comment on the friendliness of the staff, but I find them all genuine, kind, hard-working and detail oriented.
4 stars cause I can't make too objective a review, being part of the staff.

Large and open restaurant and bar. It has different sections which makes the restaurant seem big and inviting. Fairly standard Irish pub food with a nice selection of beer and drinks. The washrooms are never quite clean...as if someone does the bare minimum. The food is ok...never great. Every time I eat here, I expect the food will have gotten better. It doesn't. Reservations are an option if you are expecting a large crowd.

From the moment we called and spoke to Richard (having just left an awful scenario at another Kingston restaurant) to the attentive service from William and follow up from Richard this traditional location knows how to make your first or your returning visit(s) to Kingston a warm and inviting experience. Thank you gentlemen. We will see you again!

My husband and I took our first vacation to Kingston 2 year's and picked this place out of many, we returned this year and went back to this pub.. great food, food service and a good selection of drinks.

Great pub. One of the oldest in the area. Great selection of beers and whiskeys as well as scotch. Local bands on the weekends allow for good entertainment as well as a relaxed environment during the week. Karaoke on Wednesdays is always a fun time as well. The patio facing Ontario street is always a nice place to meet and have a meal or few drinks. Food selection is typical of pub food but is also very good and the menu changes occasionally offering unique Irish food as well.

The interior was so warm and beautiful. This is a place where I'd keep taking my company. The vibe is great for drinks and hanging out. We tried their Irish specialty but we weren't particularly impressed. It was different though, maybe just too heavy. But that wouldn't stop us from coming back and hanging out or trying other dishes. Our server was polite and covid protocols are in place which makes the dining experience even better.

Went here last night for my birthday dinner. I have eaten at their sister restaurants out in Toronto area, Fionn MacCool's many times and have always been super impressed with the food out in Toronto.

The hostess and server were fantastic. I have celiac disease and the server, Megan, brought out the book of ingredients and I was blown away by how amazing she was with the food accommodations I needed. Kudos to her for that - she overall was not part of the horrible experience that came afterwards.

We decided to go with two appetizers, and a main to share. We requested that each appetizer come out at once, as it was my birthday, and we were seated by the window so we could enjoy the buskers that were going on in Market Square. We had our drinks, ordered our food, and waited. It should be noted the place was empty- there were a few at the bar but no one else seated it was just us. We ordered the Sirancha wings- only to be told they were out. Ok salt & pepper it is.

Then they proceeded to bring all of our food out at once. This is a lot of food for ANYONE to eat at once, and isn't it just common practise that if someone has ordered apps, the mains don't come until the initial plates are cleared? Anyways, we felt extremely rushed, because like any gluten free food, specifically the bun we had on our main, if you dont eat it when its hot the bun cools down, becomes stale and crumbles. So there we were having to try and munch down all this food at once so we wouldn't end up with cold fold. Eventually after a few minutes we realized this was absolutely ridiculous. We couldn't even enjoy our meal at all. I spoke to Megan the server and she understood, apologized and said she would go speak with the manager. At that point our food was cold and not even 1/3 eaten. She came back and said the manager offered us 20% off. 20% off?! we ordered close to $100 worth of food and drinks, it was my birthday after all. Later on the manager came out after we declined the 20% off offer, and in the end we paid for one appetizer and our drinks. We won't be going back, it was completely unacceptable and while the manager did apologize and attempt to make it right the whole experience left a bad taste in our mouths and we certainly won't be returning. We left hungry, and my birthday dinner was a huge let down because of whatever reason the kitchen staff decided to rush cooking our food and it being served immediately.

The food was good, but the service was subpar at best. We were a fairly large group, so I'd be willing to cut them some slack, but overall it wasn't a great time. we waited 15 minutes for the server to return with drinks and another 20 minutes for him to even ask if we were ready to order. Once we finished and we're ready to pay, we had to wait a while for him to come back to ask for the check. we divided the bill up a few ways, and we had to wait between each person using the machine for the server to return. he would leave in between every person taking their turn to pay. It took around 20 minutes for all of us to just pay the bill. I would not return here for more than drinks with a group no larger than 3 people.

Went today for a belated Valentine's lunch with my husband. Had a coupon for 2 pies for $19.99. Got drinks, the Ceasar for me (mostly ice) and a Barking Squirel for my husband (he liked it). My husband got the quiness steak pie (he thought it was good), I got the shepherds pie (gross). The ground meat in my pie was terrible! Every bite had grisly fat that I had to spit out. I mentioned that to my server, and she said she would mention it to the boss. Got the bill, and no adjustments were made. Paid in full and will NEVER go back!

Whoever does the bartending definitely knows what they are doing. However- service is pretty average to below average and the food lately has been less than stellar. For example: I recently attended Jazz night at Monte's with my girlfriend- she ordered a pot pie and I went for the Shephard's Pie with salad.

Her potatoes were incredibly dry (and my shephard's pie looked a little shriveled) and we had to spend 10 minutes walking around and waiting at the bar for the server to appear (who appeared to have had his hands full with tending the entire area by himself- no support from staff that we could see (kudos to him in that regard- I know how tough that is). He came over with gravy to fix the problem 10 minutes later. When I moved on to the salad , I noticed they didn't give me any dressing- so I then spent another 5-10 minutes waiting at the bar to ask him for it. He then came over and apologized.

Later on that same evening as we were leaving, the server came out offended we didn't give a full tip. We explained to him our problem wasn't necessarily with him but really the food.

While this place holds a special nostalgic charm for me, I cannot bring myself to EVER go back. The pints are fine of course, but anything else has never really been any good and then the last time I went, was the worst of all. I ordered food which never even came and asked for a blueberry tea which I did get but it came like this: 3$+ lukewarm, bag in, mug of water from an apathetic server and then two separate shot glasses at 4.50$+ each with the liquors served by the bartender himself nearly five minutes after receiving my tea for a whopping grand total of nearly 15$ with tax. Now, I don t normally expect too much from a pub other than good times, but it was clear the kitchen and floor staff did not communicate, the bartenders are overworked and they just charge way too much for what you get.

Found this spot online for a quick stop for lunch and was very impressed with how delicious the food was. Had the shepherds pie special and it was excellent! Will definitely stop by again if I'm ever in Kingston!

Food was OK. Service was OK. Seems like a place that's going downhill carelessly. Stack of menus for outdoor patio was covered in food and beer. Every single one. People at nearby table had to return a pitcher because it had garbage in it that hadn't been cleaned out!

I remember having an excellent lunch here way back in 2003. Too bad...

Tir Nan Og is one of the more over-rated pubs and restaurants in Kingston. Rather, it is not living up to its former self.

Another downtown restaurant with amazing potential, this establishment has become a vortex of service and food quality over time.

This pub is not an economical choice for a downtown watering hole, so one would expect that the atmosphere and service would make up the difference, however, you are likely to be disappointed.

They do host some unique evening entertainment, and do recommend you stop by for a pint, but maybe just one.

Neat!

Went for a cheeky last round before calling it a night & ended up closing the place down! Outstanding service & friendly staff. They even gave us access to a microphone so we could karaoke until our hearts were content. Unforgettable night - thank you!!!

I run a socail group and we had our meet and greet event tonight at the Nog. I was impressed from the moment I called and made the reservation for my group of 12. The lovely lady I spoke to on the phone was great/super friendly and accommodating. The venue was big enough for the large group. the server was fabulous (Brock) very friendly and personable with excellent customer service skills (bravo my friend) He seemed to really enjoy his job. we all ordered our meals and they came in great time. one meal came to the table wrong but was very quickly rectified. The server was quick to apologize and a manager came out and apologized aswell and his meal was free of charge (outstanding customer service) I will most definitely be coming back with my group whenever the opportunity presents itself aswell as on my own. Stay fabulous guys!!

Amazing atmosphere! The food here is unbelievably good. Anything with the Guinness gravy is outstanding. Highly recommended the steak and mushroom pie. Staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating

Went for dinner, and the food wasn't disgusting, but was poorly made- fish tacos were mediocre, and the fetuccini alfredo would be best described as wet. Eventually they got me some parmisian to sprinkle on my noodles to make it taste pleasent, but I was looking for Fettucini Alfredo, not an ad-hoc cheese sauce. Beer arrived flat and had to be replaced, and the server seemed easily confounded and inexperienced, with no idea how to handle complaints or resolve concerns. If these meals had come for 10$ or less I might overlook these concerns, but each meal cost more than 15$.

The one good meal we recieved was the steak and mushroom stew, so if you have to eat there, I recomend sticking to the Irish menu items.

Edit: the manager of the restaurant reached out me, and worked hard to ensure a positive outcome. I appreciated the wonderful customer service, and all the effort taken to ensure a positive outcome.

My sisters and I ordered meals from Tir Nan Og through DoorDash. Two of us got the fish and chips, and the other got a burger. We also got two slices of cheesecake and an order of mini Yorkshire puddings. When the food arrived, most of it was lukewarm, which isn t necessarily unexpected with delivery. However, my sister had asked for a side of fries with her burger and did not receive one. The fish was mushy and very greasy, and the fries bland and under seasoned. The burger was subpar. The puddings were tasty but cold, and the cheesecake decent. The food was not anywhere near worth the price however and I will not be ordering again.

After narrowly avoiding indoctrination into a cult up the road; my girlfriend and I sought refuge here at the nog. The service here is incredible and full of valuable information. I felt welcomed the second I sat down and was instantly engaged in interesting conversation via our bartender Christina. As tourists establishments like this are great to make you feel comfortable.

We were on our way back to the US and stopped at Kingston. The food and beer were good. Our server was really nice and she was attentive to our needs. It was after 5PM but we were seated right away. We'll surely recommend to friends and family.

Waited 35 minutes for a burger and fish & chips... Waitress never acknowledged us after we placed our order, no apologies for the wait, literally the worst service. When she brought the plates (after me nudging that we were in a hurry to see a show) she stated that the food was "straight off the grill". She was blaming the kitchen staff for being slow... yet when we took our first bites the entirety was lukewarm at best. Paid nearly 50$ for terrible service and "okay" food. Won't be going back.

Loved the interior, very open and spacious. Went there with a large group of friends. 10 to 15 of us appeared to be the only ones there. There ended up being a couple on the patio and a like 3 people in the front part of the building.
The service was extremely slow. Not sure if its due to new employees or not. Waited 20 mins for a drink. Not a round of drinks. Just one drink. When our meals arrived the members who had fries as a side, literally had like 10 to 15 fries. Normally when fries are a side, you have a nice little mound on your plate, the fries sat flat on the plate, thats how few they had. We had a friend arrive late, and placed an order as soon as he arrived. An hour later as the rest of us were ready for our bills he still had no meal. I went to inquire about this and they had said that there was some kind of communications problems between the kitchen and server and they were now making it. So he ended up getting his meal in a take out container. Then when the bills finally arrived, my friends meal and drinks were placed on two other members bills and he didnt get a bill at all.
Unfortunately, it appeared that there was a lack of training and skill, time appreciation and customer ssrvice. For that reason i am giving the place a 2 star rating. I still enjoyed my company, but the service and lack of attention to basically the only costomers during the time frame we were there, will be my reason for not returing.

Took ages to get the attention of the bar staff even though they weren't serving other people either. Then they shortchanged me by $5 on an already $8 drink and disappeared again before I could question it. Karaoke sound was bad and there was no way to find out what music was available other than guessing and luck. This place wouldn't have been *that* bad either except for the part where it's Kingston and there are lots of good bars, so this one rather stood out.
