I love being able to walk to this library during my lunch hour. They are multi-level library located in downtown Sacramento. They have quite a large selection of books and also offer other services such as getting your GED and help with passports. The staff were also very friendly and help me locate specific books I need.

No parking except for extremely expensive garage or extremely expensive street parking with a 30 minute time limit. Go to the suburban branches instead, where you will get free parking. As for the large selection of books at the main library, you can search for and reserve those books online and pick them up and return them at your local branch with no charge. Also, the main library is located in the downtown slum, with bums and robbers everywhere, including inside the library.

The Central library is FANTASTIC, great spaces and an impressive collection of books - especially when paired with the rest of Sac library's locations and the ability to request book transfers within that system. The classes, lectures and special events hosted by the library are awesome - and normally free!

And then there is the Sacramento Room! This is the crown jewel of our Main branch. Located in the original building which is an old Carnegie foundation library with big windows and a comfortable atmosphere is one of the best collections of locally sourced materials I have ever seen. Not only is there a collection High school year books, city directory's, telephone books, registry's and other documents related to history. There are also books written by Sacramento authors. They also have a "vault" with some truly rare or one of a kind items - and even these available for viewings by the public!

Since the remodel and reconfiguration of the library space, this downtown MAIN branch is the best. If parking is an issue for you, consider alternatives such as bicycling, JUMP e-bikes, or RT transit (just 2 blocks away). Hey, some people even walk to the library. The librarians are extremely helpful, books and DVDs can be ordered especially for you with a library card, you can read the Sac Bee online with your card (at home) and attend all sorts of special events there as well. This main branch is a treasure trove of delight. I've been coming here for years.

This is one of my favorite library in Sacramento because it's next to my building. And everyday I can stop by the library either to drop off or pick up the books. The staffs are very friendly. And I can request books from any library and it can be picked up from this location.

And for check-out you can go to any Kiosk and check out without standing in long ques.

I heard they do passport renewal on the 2nd floor.

Cons -- the parking is not free. You need to park on the streets which is metered or the parking garage next door which is a little expensive and limited space.

On the bottom floor they have kids books that's where I spend more of my time searching. And they have a little corner for kids to play, story time, computers for people to browse. This library has lots of offer. And you can borrow videos as well. I had checkout the prenatal videos which were useful.

And you will notice, homeless people come inside this library too. Everyone is treated fairly here.

This is the downtown Sacramento library. While centrally located in the city, it is hard to access by car. With public transportation, you can get here by light rail or bus, but I would visit neighborhood/suburban library branches if you were to bring little kids or elderly people who are better transported by car and you don't want to pay for parking. With that said, this branch does have the most extensive collection of books and multimedia and this branch has several librarians vs. just 1 or 2 for smaller branches. The multi-story building houses an incredible number of books and you can find pretty much everything you could possibly look for here, whether it is for academic research, school reports, work related research, or simply for your reading or DVD viewing pleasure.

This Collection, is excellent. So there are countless activites for youngsters in the neighborhood to do. Tons of room to discover or research quitely in peace.
In addition to the loads of essays, there are various other sources to help you research or obtain your job finished. Printing solutions are readily available, as well as basic computers connected to the net.

Look, print, or send e-mails. With a range of Video, newspaper, , slides, , , , blue ray, within your reaches, there is plenty for you to get into here. Virtually every community needs to have such a valuable and also beautiful source readily available to individuals who live there. It is a shame that as a result of lack of special funding, lots of are forced to cutback, or shut down. Make certain you care for your public library as much as you can, as these important resouces need all they can get, and are going away at a rapid pace.

When I was a youngster, I would certainly spend hours on end, researching, playing, and learning. The development of innovations has allowed us to perform numerous actions convenitely in our houses, yet there are still lots of things you can not due without your public library. Most people won't miss them till they are gone, once they are gone, it's virtually impossible to get them back. Cherrish your local library as well as battle to preserve its pressence in your area. Support your library.

I think it is so cool to see staff who like to help educate people locate and access the materials. There are so many pluses being involved with theextra curriculum like classes and movienights and book sales. Dedication is a word to describe a good library. Everywhere you look you see staff who care about people having access. It worksfor me that's why i love libraries!
