If you can't go to or haven't been to The French Laundry, this will stand in as a solid brother. It was a lovely dinner, everything you would expect from Thomas Keller, but felt like an outpost of the original versus its own identity. Still, very worthy for special occasions and a good representation of West Coast cuisine in New York.

This is a very sophisticated restaurant, by all measures. Three adjectives describe it best: expensive, delicious, and delightful. The service is top notch, the view is of Columbus Circle/Central Park. The space is open and unconfining. This is a place to take your time in order to fully appreciate the experience. It is well known in New York as one of the best restaurants in the city, and it lives up to its reputation.

My wife and I had the most amazing experience at Per Se for our 2nd anniversary. All of our food was second to none, our drinks were the best we've ever had and all our servers did such a wonderful job. They paid such close attention to detail that it literally took seconds for our drinks to be refilled. Alex was so great, he took us back into the kitchen to meet the team and we got special gifts for our anniversary. What a wonderful experience we'll remember for a lifetime. Highly recommended.

I have to say that I never thought I would write a negative review of Per Se but I was so shocked and disgusted by the prices that I feel compelled to do so. Leaving aside that $310 prix fixe for a vegetarian meal is completely ridiculous, however preciously prepared -- but the $310 for the regular tasting menu includes two supplementary charges - $75 for the caviar and $45 for the foie gras, and when I didn't order either of those I got a lengthy argument from the waiter that actually became embarrassing. As someone's guest I just didn't want to do that. And then there is the wine list -- there were exactly 4 white wines under $200 on the lengthy ipad (of course!) list and not very many more under $300. Most were in the upper hundreds and thousands and at least one was $12,000. I only glanced at the reds but it was similar. As I have my own wine cellar with well over 1000 bottles I could calculate the unbelievable markups on many of those wines. In any case no wonder people loathe the 1 per centers (and I am one). what a gross display of excess! ugh. Oh and they make a really lousy grey goose martini -- I guess that is beneath them.

What a great night! Wonderful food and everyone was so nice courteous and pleasant. No one was pretentious. They also did not rush any meal and our dinner took over 4 wonderful hours discovering the 9 course menu. In reality it was a 18 course menu! While on paper it is 8 savory meals and one dessert, the dessert ended up being a 9 course menu on its own. There are 4 desserts per person. In addition, they offer donuts, macarons, caramels, truffles and marble chocolate balls (6 or 8 flavors). On top since it was my birthday, not only I had the menu printed with my name on it but it was also signed by the chef a special individual portion cake was offered and a gift(cookies and chocolate) was given to everyone at the end. All desserts were excellent, except for the Macarons, I don't think they were fresh and had picked a strange taste from something they were near it... As for the chocolate marbles had a strong taste of all the other ingredients overpowering the chocolate. But that is only my own preference. The savory plates were all excellent and I got my money worth of the Australian black truffles! I got more than a full truffle shaved on top of my plate(twice :-)).The wine list is excellent but I think the prices are a bit on the high end and they could be improved. The service was exceptional. They were very nice and explained each plate and answered any question we had and took into account every small request and were there present only when needed. In addition the distance between the tables was big enough to give everyone privacy and the noise level is low. It was an experience to all the senses worth the money.

I'm in the mood for some Korean food, and thankfully, I found this Korean restaurant nearby. It was nice because the staff here are super accommodating, and the orders that I requested were made fast. I can tell that this place is truly a go-to spot for delicious foods, especially for some hot and tasty noodles. Good job, guys! THANKS!

This is a restaurant for emotions. People come here precisely for this. The portions themselves are very small, but very creatively designed and look alluring. This is not the first year that the restaurant is among the 50 best in the world. Opened by Per Se in 2004, the famous chef Thomas Keller. It offers views of Central Park and the Columbus Circle. The tasting menu consists of 9 dishes. The wine list includes at least all popular and excellent wines. It s very difficult to get a table, which is naturally better to book ahead of time.

I thought it was going to be difficult to make reservations here but it wasn't hard at all. My previous experiences with making reservations at fancy Michelin starred restaurants turned me off because I was using OpenTables app, which always showed no or low availability. So this time, I called Per Se about a month in advance and spoke with a person who gave me a bunch of times and days for the next month during my stay in NYC. It's so much easier calling them instead of using Open Table!!
Anyway, of course dinner was amazing. New flavors and textures I've never experienced. This is what separates 3 Michelin starred restaurants from the rest. Also, the prices already include a service charge so you're already paying for gratuity in your meal. Dinner for 2 with wine was about $800. My favorites include pearls and oyster, peach sorbet with ginger beer, lamb and broccoli, and salmon ice cream cone thing. Chef Thomas Keller is the real deal. I would go back here.

The place looks so nice and classy. It justifies the price of their food which is delicious but needs a little bit more improvement in the way that they fix the texture and the flavor of the dish. The view of the place and atmosphere left me and my mom in awe. The staff were extra friendly and kept asking us what we need and if there is anything else that they can do for us. I would love to go back here for special occasions.

Per Se - it really needs no introduction. No. 11 on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list. 3 Michelin stars. 29 rating in Zagat (30 is the highest, which indicates "perfection"). The accolades go on and on. Clearly one reserves Per Se for the most special of occasions-like our 2 year wedding anniversary!
So did our meal live up to the expectations? The answer to that question is yes, in the way that a performance at the Metropolitan Opera House lives up to your expectations. What I mean by that is, you appreciate the level of skill and talent involved, you admire the beauty of your surroundings and you certainly don't regret having attended. But at the end of the day, you would prefer to let your hair down and go see the Yeah Yeah Yeahs play at a smaller, scruffier venue.
I think the problem was that the majority of the dishes weren't mind-blowingly good. For $295 a person, I would require that each course or at least the majority of them be spectacular. I wanted my taste buds to be completely won over and wanting more, but at the most they were slightly piqued and then lost interest. The meal started out on a very high note with the impressive "oysters and pearls" course, but it soon lost momentum as every subsequent dish failed to make a similarly memorable impression.
Our 7-course tasting option played out as follows (traditional 9-course is $295, 7 is $235, 5 is $195):
amuse bouche - gruyere cheese gougeres and salmon tartare cornets. outstanding
1st course - oysters and pearls was AMAZING. pearl tapioca in a decadent hollandaise-like sauce with exquisite caviar and oysters
2nd course - hearts of peach palm, solid, very light and refreshing
2nd course supplement option - duck foie gras. really dense and rich. served with a side of brioche. way too rich for me
3rd course - nova scotia lobster mitts, also excellent
4th course - guinea hen with smoked foie gras, good but not great
5th course - elysian fields lamb, again good but not great
6th course - spiced plum soda, a nice refreshing intermission from all the heavy proteins
7th course - dessert, we tried the malted banana and the raspberry financier. very old school in the preparation, elaborate plating and technique, solid flavors. good but did not leave me wanting more
There are so many other in-between courses that make "7-course" a bit of an understatement. The dessert portion of the meal, for instance, is an elaborate, drawn-out affair where additional plates of macarons, chocolate truffles, donuts, iced caramel semifreddo, mini ice-cream sandwiches and a complimentary anniversary cake arrived unannounced alongside the single scheduled dessert. I imagine it's sort of how Katniss felt when she ate at the Capitol for the first time-mesmerized and bewildered by all the luxurious excess.
At the end of the day, I'm extremely glad I went, but I won't return. It wasn't like my experience at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, another service-oriented, tasting-menu driven high-end restaurant, which blew me away with each course and seemed to have more soul than the technically perfect Per Se.

My husband booked us to have dinner here after we got married at city hall and I have to say, it was the best "date night" of my life. The food was exceptional. The service was outstanding. The ambience was warm and welcoming. My husband worked with the restaurant staff and they made a special menu with our last name on it :) We stayed there for over 5 hours eating and talking and drinking!! This is a must do for a special occasion. We will be returning every anniversary.
We wanted to express our sincere thank you to Per Se and the staff for making our wedding night so memorable.

Service wasn't great, sure they were polite but I never even got to put a drink order in and the only time I was checked on was when I wanted my check.
I'll still give this place a chance because they actually had a lot of good looking food I'd be interested in trying.

Visiting New York for a few days to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had booked Per Se.
From the moment we arrived to exiting the restaurant everything was perfect.
We decided for the tasting menu, my wife being vegetarian we were a bit worried but nothing was a problem.
The sommelier matched her food selection with non alcoholic cocktails throughout the meal whilst I had a bottle of excellent champagne.
The food was some of the best we ever tasted and the service was exceptionnel.

I really had fun at this cafe, the food is amazing, as well as the restrooms were not smelly. It was a little chilly inside, so that was not totally cool. The host is good too. I will certainly consider returning once again if I get the opportunity. Me and also my good friend ordered the toast and also we were not let down. My one suggestion is to keep the chilly exterior. Come again!

Unique dining experience. Really a super tasting menu, but the food and service are unsurpassed. Eat slowly and try not to fill up too much. They keep bringing the superb food courses. After a few trips to Per Se you realize that you should only taste everything, not finish everything. Think of the high tariff as a passport. It allows you into another level of dining. Great value.
