This place is GREAT. Our 2 year old had a blast and most of the exhibits were appropriate for his age. We started by buying admission for the day, and by the end of our visit decided to buy an annual membership! The folks at the front desk were kind enough to credit the cost of our day passes towards the annual membership price (which was under $100 for a family of 4 pack).

This place would be great for kids 2 years to maybe 8 or 9.

My three-year-old granddaughter absolutely loves this museum. She makes a trip there each time she visits Austin; and explores every nook and cranny in the place. It's a kids' wonderland. I remember taking my daughters there when they were very young. It's a family tradition.

We purchased the family membership and have gotten so much out of it. My 2 year old loves the exhibits but it is exciting to see him grow with them as he developes. The area is wonderful too to catch a bite to eat or hit up a farmer's market on the weekend too.

A great place to explore science, math, and art as well as have so much fun with your kids! The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Exhibits include a fun fruit and vegetable stand where the young ones can select their "fresh" fruits and veggies, weigh them out, and calculate the costs to purchase! Kids can take them to the kitchen to play cook too. We had a great time and are looking forward to going there again. It will definitely be a popular spot for us to get reprieve from the summer heat just around the corner.

Was looking something different for 4 and 10 year old. Found this place...good to ok for educational. However crowded. ..look like parents are bringing sick kids. My daughter and wife both got sick...and we know this was the place we visited. .for sure... facility try to keep it clean...but there are no measures for each device or scale. Sanitizer are at hight kids can barely resch. Parents should also take self responsibility to not make sick kids..

Fun for all ages. Children under the age of 2 years are free. We have found getting a membership very beneficial. They do have programs on certain days of the week such as Baby Bloomers on Mondays and free day on Wednesdays. Members get in early the first Sunday of every month.
The upstairs is more set up for the younger children and the downstairs more for the older. I like to take my 4-month-old to the baby bloomers room knowing there are not going to be older kids in there to run him over. My 2-year- old likes the kitchen play and the water room. There is an area designated for eating downstairs. There is also a great outdoor play area with jungle gym and water play feature. Storytime at 11, 1 and 3 on weekdays.
Once a month they also do Thinkery21 which is an adult evening of play and eats without the kiddos. They also have space to host birthday parties.
Lots of restrooms with changing tables, which is a plus and even a private room for moms to nurse their babies.
Paid parking on the street or free parking in the McBee garage.

School field trip was scheduled but they had 2 schools booked at the same time. Too crowded! They do not do guided tours anymore so it was mass chaos. Would not recommend for school field trips due to being VERY disorganized.

Great time with the kids. Lots of hands on experiences. Outside climbing structure with other outdoor structures and activities. Kids loved the wet room. Be prepared to get wet. They have aprons and water shoes but the water gets everywhere.

$12 per person is insane. They've jacked up the prices without added enough activities or replaced any of the toys. We love the outside play area but not for $36 for me, a toddler and a kinder age kiddo.

This place is awesome. Our 2-year old and 4-year old loved it. If we lived in Austin we would probably buy a membership. Excellent educational, hands-on exhibits where kids are encouraged to explore on their own.

This is a very packed place and surprisingly very engaging for my kindergartner. It is more geared toward grade school with a wide range of activities compared to either Waco or New Braunfels. Out of the three my Kindergartner loves New Braunfels the best - which of course is an hour away instead of a few minutes. 8-P

There is a small courtyard on 2 stories.
On the second floor, small children are happy to play.
Is there a corner where you can do art? I guess it's like $ 14. . .

An awesome place for adults and kiddos. So much to do for all ages and abilities. Could spend the whole day here, even come back several times and have just as much fun! There is also a great playground across the street to continue playing. Ice cream shops, restaurant, and movie theater within 50 feet.

Took my 3 year old niece and 7 & 9 year old daughters. It had something for everyone. I think 9 is pushing it, but she had a good time. My niece especially loved the water table. Lots of wet kiddos. If they are little bring a spare set of clothes.

This place is pretty cool. We have a 3.5 year old, and we have been members sence she was 2. Has a good amount of stuff to do, personally I'm pretty bored of the place since I've been coming almost 2 years, it would be cool if they had some exibits that changed. It's been exactly the same the whole time we've been members. Our daughter still asks to come about once a month though. Not really a Museam, and not super educational, but fun nonetheless.

Just a heads up - This place is great for younger kids, but a bit pricey, and it's more of a thing for younger kids, toddler-7yo age. Otherwise, this place is packed to the brim with schoolchildren on trips, and it gets chaotic. Will not return, but to each's own.

It was dirty but we still enjoyed this place. But due to their decision to delve into the realm of social engineering and the promotion of gender and sexual delinquency, my family and i will not go again.

We spent about an hour and a half here with a 5 year old. Arts and crafts room was a hit, they have plenty of supplies (they take donations) and suggested activities. The light room was super fun. The microscopes were awesome! The farmer's market type area upstairs was a hit and the playground was the favorite. Then we visited the playground across the street fore more fun. Parking garage was a very short walk. Friendly staff. We went on a Thursday midday and wasn't crowded at all.

We've been members since we started to spend time in Austin. The membership has been one of the most valuable of any we have bought in the past. They are a member of a network of childrens museums across the country and entry in most are granted with a Thinkery family membership. We have become dear friends with staff members throughout the years and observe the staff treating everyone with the same courtesy, kindness and care. We especially appreciate the staffmembers with disabilities and learning differences. The exhibits change often and educational opportunities and story times for all ages occur throughout the day. Best for kids ages 9 or 10 months through age 11 or 12.

We love it here, so much for kids to see and do. Warning: gets super busy on weekends but go later in the afternoon and it s not so bad. Even when it is at its busiest you can find spots with fewer crowds. If you have an EBT or WIC card, you can get in free. I love the access for all!

About Thinkery

Thinkery: Austin's Home for Science and Family Fun

Thinkery is a unique museum located in Austin, Texas that offers an interactive and educational experience for children and families. Formerly known as the Austin Children's Museum, Thinkery has evolved into a place where science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) come together to inspire curiosity and creativity.

At Thinkery, visitors can explore over 40 hands-on exhibits that encourage learning through play. From the "Spark Shop" where kids can tinker with tools to create their own inventions to the "Kitchen Lab" where they can experiment with food science, there is something for everyone at this innovative museum.

One of the most popular exhibits at Thinkery is the "Currents" exhibit which allows visitors to create their own circuits using wires and batteries. This exhibit teaches children about electricity in a fun and engaging way. Another favorite exhibit is "Innovators' Workshop" which encourages creativity by providing materials such as cardboard boxes, tape, scissors etc., allowing kids to build whatever they imagine.

In addition to its permanent exhibits, Thinkery also hosts special events throughout the year such as summer camps for kids of all ages. These camps offer hands-on activities that focus on STEAM subjects like robotics or coding.

Thinkery also offers programs specifically designed for toddlers called “Little Thinkers”. These programs are designed to introduce young children (ages 0-3) to STEAM concepts through play-based activities like sensory exploration or music-making.

The museum’s mission is not only about providing fun experiences but also about promoting education in STEAM fields. The staff at Thinkery believes that by exposing children early on in life to these subjects it will help them develop critical thinking skills necessary for success later on in life.

Thinkery has received numerous awards including being named one of Forbes’ Top 12 Children’s Museums in America. It has also been recognized by local publications such as Austin Monthly who named it “Best Place To Take Kids” multiple times.

Overall, if you're looking for a fun-filled day out with your family while learning something new along the way then look no further than Thinkery! With its interactive exhibits and engaging programs catering from toddlers up until teenagers - there's truly something here for everyone!
