It's the best indoors children's museum/exploration space we've ever been to. Investigation/play areas are well thought out with plenty of space to try different ideas. If we lived in Austin we'd probably come here every week. Water play area was definitely the highlight.

Great place for a child's birthday. They provide many activities to keep children occupied during the 2-hr party, you can bring your own food, and the children have full use of the museum after the party. Will return for future parties. Thank you.

The price per person (12.00) young children get in free, don't remember exact cut off. Couple cool things to do but mostly low budget things you could do from home. Like a giant lightbrite, pvc pipe "flute" and drum set. They have a plastic food "grocery store" a water play area and a playgrownd. So overcrowded that no child seemed to actually focus on anything longer than a few minutes before the child next in line got impatient. Severe updates needed in several activity centers.

We paid $20 for the class and entrance. The class was disappointing. Some magnetic sand, a book, and one activity. There were a ton of school groups which over took the place. Great for older kids but too much for ones under 3.

Definitely a "must stop" when visiting Austin. They have some creative exhibits geared towards teaching science to kids in a playful environment. Parking is very reasonable and there are tons of restaurants nearby.

Please like review if it has been helpful to you.

This is a great place for kids to explore and have fun, with areas for different developmental ages. There is an outdoor area for climbing and plenty of indoor play/learning activities. There are also wet areas for hands-on water activities. They also have story time with singing and movement. There is also a park/playground across the Thinkery that is fun for kids.

My 6 year old has been coming here since this place opened. They change things up sometimes to keep it fresh. Story time is always fun, the water room is a big hit, the playscape is a lot of fun, they get to make and launch airplanes to learn about aerodynamics, and there is a fonore fun stuff for a day to do. Take your kids here, the Thinkery rocks! Plus there's also a great park right across the street for even more fun.

This place is awesome!! I was a little worried that my son would be too young to enjoy it (16 months), but he had a blast! My husband and I did, too, honestly. It was fun to see our son enjoy himself so much and there were lots of photo opportunities.

This place is unsafe. It is new and modern, but not safe for younger children. My husband and I were visiting from out of town with our 17 month old daughter. We went to the "bloom" room. This is a small area upstairs with a gate. The sign on the gate clearly states that it is for babies and toddlers only. It also clearly states that children are to remove their shoes. We went in and found it to be clean and modern. Our daughter was enjoying herself when the room slowly descended into choas. Before we knew it, half the children in the room were clearly between the ages of 4 and 8. They were running around out of control with their shoes on. The kids were leaving the gate open and the parents were either nowhere to be found or they were standing around staring blankly. The older children were knocking over the smaller children, much to the dismay of the younger children's parents. Clearly there are some irresponsibly parents to blame here. However, on the rare occasion that an employee bothered to come by to monitor what was going on, she simply stood there and did nothing, despite the fact that there were children clearly violating the rules of the room and endangering other children. It is appalling to me that the management and employees have made no efforts to address the clearly dangerous situation.

I took our three year old to the thinkery, and he loved it. I was pleased to see that even on a spring break Tuesday, we were able to do our own thing. I believe it's best to go without a stroller (carrier or walk), and have one adult per child. It makes all the difference to their excitable minds to have someone talk them through their questions. There's so much available in every corner, for any sort of mind.

My 4 yo really enjoyed our visit. Her favorite parts were an area downstairs where you can paint on a plexi glass panel and then wipe it off with a squeegee and upstairs in the water play area. I'd give it 5 stars but we visited on a weekday and there were a ton of kids groups coming through which made it really hard for my daughter to play. It'd be beneficial to younger visitors on weekdays if there was a bit more time between groups. Also my daughter could have spent a lot more time upstairs than I let her if there were maybe some noise dampening panels. It was really hard to stay up there for too long because of the noise. Children are always going to be loud of course, but it could be a bit more comfortable for parents with some acoustic improvements.

Love bringing my daughter here. She's 7 months old and they have a wonderful small child toddler section. The story time is always fun. As she grows older she will be able to enjoy more of what the thinkery has to offer.

Great place to take children! Wed. and Sundays are the free/donation night. If you go on a Monday, the HEB Mueller Cafe has kids eat free night. It is a great location by the park and has some fun restaurants close by. It has stuff to keep you learning at any age and time goes by very quickly there! Adults should check out thinkery 21 night that happens once a month.

This place is a PARADISE for kids, with a lot of activities, toys, experiments and learning resources. The establishment is
equipped with nice amenities like: clean bathrooms, vending machines, break area with tables and water fountains where you eat your snacks, elevators, A/C, etc. They also have a outside playground for physical activity and a small river with floating toys.
However you have to be careful you plan to visit the place during the week, they have summer camps and the best playing areas (like AIR PRESSURE LUNCHING PLANES, which is the most popular and preferred) are closed wich seems like a reap off since you pay you should have access to all of them. Also the WIND(AIR) INSTRUMENTS from outside do not function which was a TURN OFF.
Make sure you bring snacks, water, spare clothes( socks, underwear, tshirts and water shoes or crocks) for the WET ARE from upstairs where the kids get wet really easy. They do provide protective vests, crocks and dryers.
I strongly recommend to encourage your kids to be nice, polite and share the toys with others as they could learn to develop social skills. Keep in mind that may be kids with special needs who need support and understanding, empathy is highly valued.
Engage with the kiddos in activities that serve a purpose, help for example in building projects to find gravity and balance etc.
Do not leave the children unattended as the can get lost easily.

We had our child's birthday party here. What an experience! The staffers made the activities fun and engaging and the room was the perfect size for our party. All the kids who attended had a great time, and we went home with a tired kid. Win-win.

Visited for the first time on an unseasonably cold day for Texas spring (temp in low 40s), with our 2-y.o. daughter. She absolutely loved every minute of the entire afternoon we were there, and made us happy.

The facility is absolutely fantastic and well organized with professional staff, who worked tirelessly picking up after kids being wild running and screaming all around. For younger kids, start from upstairs where it's more age-appropriate, while older kids can enjoy the hands-on exhibits on the ground floor. Few highlights below:

1) Be mindful that the water feature upstairs can and will get your little one's footwear and/or pants wet. There wasn't enough waterproof smock/apron around, so we had to wait for ours. There are hand driers placed conveniently nearby, when necessary.

2) Toddler's area is for kids 2.5 y.o. and under. It's well padded play area for them to crawl and bounce about. They ask you to remove shoes or place shoe covers over.

3) There's a large structure outside with net/rope for climbing. Our daughter absolutely loved climbing all over with kids more than twice her size and age. For parents with active children like ours, be ready to climb up there and fit into tight places.

4) One interesting observation: we stayed till the closing time (6PM on Saturday), and upon making our way to the exit, the staff closed the main gate and asked all the families to hang tight. We heard other parents saying it must have been a case of a child being separated from parents, and that we were kept from exiting the premise until they reunited the said family. The whole situation lasted no more than 5 minutes. As parents, we not only understood, but appreciated such measure.

We'd most certainly return here as our children grow and would consider the membership to be well worth the cost.

DO NOT COME HERE.

DO NOT COME HERE.

Some great stuff being done here...kids have a chance at some pretty cool experiences.

However, it is crowded, some of the doors are broken and staff has no way to communicate with one and other. In the event of an emergency, this place will implode and children will get hurt. Take the trip to San Antonio...the Doseum is the definition of "done correctly" in comparison.

In addition to safety, the lack of a real cafeteria is notable, and while they encourage you to purchase online and claim a time window, they will sell you gift cards in the store that have no way of being used to make online purchases.

I repeat - DO NOT COME HERE.

Loved Austin's children's museum clean friendly open layout. Took children ages 14 to 4 and all enjoyed! Painting area, light room, upstairs market and outdoor play structure were our favorites. Bravo for having a quiet area integrated into the design next to the light room! Vending machine had healthy food choices and small gift shop.

This place makes me want to be a kid again! I can't wait to take my nephews here. We can for a private event in the evenings and were able to drink some adult beverages and play like children. The water room was my favorite - who knew it could be so musical?! This place hosts summer camp events that really make learning fun!

This place is pretty fun for kids. My son always has a blast in the water room. I would like if there were more instructions on how each room is used - a lot of the time we are left wondering what each contraption does. The building is very hard to get to in my opinion and is surrounded by construction. I do miss the old children's museum compared to this but since my son enjoys it we will return.

Always a great experience for small kids. Might not be too entertaining for middle school kids.
The water section upstairs is a big hit. Check their site for special events for kids. They have free story telling sessions through the day. They announce these when it's time.
Parking is either on the road or in a structure behind the building.

Super cool place for kids between 2-10. I had fun myself but it wasn't made for adults. There is easily enough for 3 hours of fun. Take your parking ticket if you park in the nearby garage because they will comp up to 3 hours of parking. My favorite area was probably the aquadynamics room.

About Thinkery

Thinkery: Austin's Home for Science and Family Fun

Thinkery is a unique museum located in Austin, Texas that offers an interactive and educational experience for children and families. Formerly known as the Austin Children's Museum, Thinkery has evolved into a place where science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) come together to inspire curiosity and creativity.

At Thinkery, visitors can explore over 40 hands-on exhibits that encourage learning through play. From the "Spark Shop" where kids can tinker with tools to create their own inventions to the "Kitchen Lab" where they can experiment with food science, there is something for everyone at this innovative museum.

One of the most popular exhibits at Thinkery is the "Currents" exhibit which allows visitors to create their own circuits using wires and batteries. This exhibit teaches children about electricity in a fun and engaging way. Another favorite exhibit is "Innovators' Workshop" which encourages creativity by providing materials such as cardboard boxes, tape, scissors etc., allowing kids to build whatever they imagine.

In addition to its permanent exhibits, Thinkery also hosts special events throughout the year such as summer camps for kids of all ages. These camps offer hands-on activities that focus on STEAM subjects like robotics or coding.

Thinkery also offers programs specifically designed for toddlers called “Little Thinkers”. These programs are designed to introduce young children (ages 0-3) to STEAM concepts through play-based activities like sensory exploration or music-making.

The museum’s mission is not only about providing fun experiences but also about promoting education in STEAM fields. The staff at Thinkery believes that by exposing children early on in life to these subjects it will help them develop critical thinking skills necessary for success later on in life.

Thinkery has received numerous awards including being named one of Forbes’ Top 12 Children’s Museums in America. It has also been recognized by local publications such as Austin Monthly who named it “Best Place To Take Kids” multiple times.

Overall, if you're looking for a fun-filled day out with your family while learning something new along the way then look no further than Thinkery! With its interactive exhibits and engaging programs catering from toddlers up until teenagers - there's truly something here for everyone!
