Excellent acoustics, superb show, refreshing ice cream (though I'd have preferred a local brand like Doddington's) and seats so much better since the refurbishment. A top class theatre and a wonderful asset to the city. Very friendly staff too.

The show was a five star, the theatre not so. Couldn't get anywhere near bars (three). Arrived a good 15 mins before show and didn't get served in time for start. Some of the draught drinks had run out but would be available for interval. Wasn't allowed in at first as show had started so had to wait outside with loads of others until told ok to go in. One guy (worked there) took his group diving in front of us realised they needed to be upstairs and quickly pushed passed us - we knocked into people behind us spilling their drinks. They also block your phone's whilst the show is running, weird you'd think they'd like people to check in, rate the shows etc

Shows are brilliant bit the seating arrangement is sad. No legspace at all.. everyone on a row needs to standup to allow people to move to and from their seats to the aisle. Food not allowed inside. Washrooms are limited and make for long queues. You can't carry more than a tiny handbags because the place so cramped inside. Runs well only because of the love for theatre and excellent performing artists

The Theatre Royal in Newcastle is a magnificent building of it's age and anyone who has ever seen its interiors would know how stunningly beautiful they are. My partner and i recently saw a play there and even though we were up in the amphitheatre we could here the dialogue clearly though patrons with sight issues may have problems distinguishing actors faces. The seats we sat in were comfortable to start with but after about an hour there was a lot of fidgeting, i guess that comes with the territory.

Beautifully renovated Theatre on Grey Street in teh city centre - friends membership excellent value, and the possibility to acquire half price standby tickets 1.5 hours before the show to most shows (unless sold out) is a standout feature particularly great for students. Drawing more and more West End shows and international Dance Companies this is surely a place to savour.
