Definitely one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at. Every item was expensive, as to be expected for the location and business, but the lobby and rooms were amazingly decorated and all staff members were remarkable in their appearance and interactions. Overall, if you've got the money to spend and the attire to wear, I'd recommend a short stay here to see what this place is all about.

Stayed here with my husband. Expected much more from the Waldorf. It is an iconic building but disappointed in every sense. Did not like the room. Staff seemed not interested and the service was poor from attentiveness to willingness to help. Quality at breakfast was poor. Extremely disappointed and would not recommend.

Even though I live in the city, I still enjoy staying in hotels all over Manhattan. I been to The Waldorf for events and big fundraisers, but staying in the hotel is one of those quintessential New York experiences. We had a gorgeous suite, delicious room service, and chatted with the friendly bartender lobby bar. If you're looking for a classic NYC weekend, I highly recommend you stay here.

We stayed at this hotel in 2012- July 4th. Booking made under the name of Edwin Fernandes. That year it was a very good experience. As a result of that we booked again this year and were there for a night - 9 June 2016. Baaaaaddddd experience.
The room we had booked was a superior double room with double beds but we got a double room which was so small.
Room Quality - okay.
Wifi - very bad. The password was not given to us at arrival. I called the reception at least 5 times to be told that someone would come up and set it up but no one turned up. I had to go down to the lobby to complain about it and then someone helped me by giving me the password but even then the signal was so bad.
Definitely deteriorated standards this year.

Very nice hotel and the staff are also very friendly. The hotel is definitely dated, but still the history out weighs the aged rooms. We were on the 27th floor and the view really wasn't impressive. With the many hotels in NYC and especially closer to Times Square, I think we will try another one though the next time to the city.

2011 INCREDIBLE experience! The beauty, the Staff, the dining was aamazing. Victor was our Assistant and right down to the white gloves, he was perfect. I took my oldest son for a 5 day Holiday. I wanted to take other family members but not if it's been purchased by a foreign company.

I love the free breakfast on the 26th floor each morning. Also, the two bedroom suite is perfect for traveling with two children under the age of three. I wish they had more family friendly restaurants, however.

This is the most beautiful hotel. The kindest staff, I was met with Philipe and he took great care of me and was very attentive and helpful. The inside is like a dream, luxury and beautiful old style New York. Best place in the world in this crazy city!

The Waldorf is a beautiful hotel and we were so excited to bring our family to rent 3 rooms for a long weekend. Well while there it was nice, we didn't expect any additional charges except for our limo ride we had to bring us to the hotel from the airport because we had pre paid for all rooms...well let me tell you, they don't disclose that they charge your account $200.00 per room for insurance when you check out just to make sure, everything is fine. We would totally have understood this, if we had known about it. So $200.00 for 3 rooms equals $600.00 right?? Well they decided to charge us an $800.00 for insurance!!! And they double charged us for our limo ride at 493.00 so that an extra almost $ 1, 300.00 I was unaware of that was taken out of my account. And after calling and disputing this, we were told it would up to 5 days to get it back!!!!! I was completely taken back, because here we thought they were held at top ranked and this is how our family weekend had to end!!! If you want to be double charged and not given your money back for many days then yea go ahead and stay here. I plan on coming back to New York but I can guarantee I won't be staying here and neither will my family.

Hotel it's closing for a major renovation that took years and will transform a large portion of the complex in a condominium.
Beside the majestic entrance and the restaurants, of the good old times last only the dust.
Most of the rooms are in conditions that are difficult even to described such are terrible.
With Anti nasty animal spray smell everywhere, broken windows, and super noisy old ac that doesn't even warm up properly.. that's what you will face.
Staff is largely demotivated as all of them has been fired and therefore need to find a new job, sometime after decades of service.
You may notice that the prices are going down and this is basically a going out of business sales.
If you are not going for a suite that anyway are by far out of any acceptable modern standard, you risk to spend your nights in a nightmare.

We stayed at the WA from Jan 9th to Jan 11/2015 to celebrate my son's 40th birthday in a suite room 12H and room 1212. The service was great and the 2 bed room suite was amazing but very noisy at night the heating was awful. It would get boiling hot and very dry.
The TV repair men came in on Sat afternoon and moved the bed in room 1212 as the TV did not have any reception.. That evening I was walking around the bed to grab a pillow from the bed by the window. I pumped my right leg on this bed frame which was sticking out by 6" there was the bed skirt covering it. I broke the skin on my shin and have swelling on it. I called security they came with ice packs took pictures and said would be back but never showed up that night. Please be careful in that room. It has been a problem before but did not get fixed. We got a credit for one night but this should be fixed ASAP as it can really hurt some one very badly. The frame is bigger then the mattress.

The entrances seemed to be undergoing some sort of renovation, so we missed out on a decent photo op. Other than that, it was a delightful home away from home with outstanding customer service. Seeing the black and white stills of all those famous guests these past 100 years gave me the chills. I'm a sucker for that kind of thing. Overall, a great hotel.

In celebration of our 25th Anniversary, my wife, our daughter, and I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in New York this past week.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel; it is very luxurious, and the staff was very helpful. For example, we received instructions on utilizing the subway system to reach our destinations, including a map of the subway system. In addition, a microwave, coffee maker, and a refrigerator were placed in our room, which was very convenient.
Moreover, the subway system is on Lexington Avenue and 53rd Street, which is a short walk from the hotel. Also, we enjoyed attending Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, which is a short walk from the hotel as well.
The only negative aspect of the Waldorf Astoria is that there are not too many restaurants nearby. However, we did go to the Times Square District for restaurants (only a few blocks away, whether you walk or take a cab).
I highly recommend the Waldorf Astoria if you're staying in New York City. It is a very high quality hotel.

Snack from the mini-bar was expired. Hotel windows really dirty so despite 15th floor room, didn't get a nice view. Toilet continuously running, so had to have maintenance to my room at 10pm at night. Room just looks outdated.
Not much directly around the hotel, just businesses, so it isn't a lively environment when you walk out the door.
Ordered room service dessert & was not impressed at all. Cheap chocolate cake that tasted like it was bought at a corner market.
Staff was nice though & the lobby is historically a pretty entrance.

Beautiful, historic hotel with a great location and excellent service. I have stayed here in early January with my daughter over the last two years. I was hoping to make it a tradition as we have enjoyed both the terrific service we've received and the beautiful architecture and design. So disappointed that it will no longer be an option for us to enjoy or recommend to others. Enjoy it while you can!

This place is a slice of history. I stayed there for three nights and it was pleasant. I am glad, however that renovations are going to happen- the place is in dire need of upgrades. For example, the plumbing is not great, the shower took about 10 seconds to turn on, and the toilet slowly putters along as you start to sweat over if it will actually flush or overflow.
Renovations aside, this place was great- a true gem.

My review is long overdue from my trip, but when I read the doors were closing for renovations, I realized I never wrote my review.
I came here during the summer and couldn't wait to stay here as it is an Iconic piece of NYC. But I'm glad to hear that it will be getting an overhaul, I hope all the historic charm will be kept but added modern amenities be incorporated.
The hotel is grand as it was intended. There is very beautiful pieces of art here, but it is very dated. The hotel keys and locks work on and off, and you have to go all the way down to the lobby to get a new key. The lobby is fairly dark and dated as well. The carpet throughout the hotel has definitely seen better days. The room as grand as the suite was, it sure was dated. The AC is not very easy to find where to control it and makes it difficult to cool down such a grand room. The furniture is abundant but not very functional. The changing room is amazing, but also dated and not too functional. The bathroom is grand and large but mostly wasted space, the shower is tiny, the toilet has no door to it, so you can't really have two people occupying the bathroom since there is no door to the toilet. The tub wasn't all that grand either.
The butlers corner was large but very dark and not too useful, the fridge is quite small for such a grand room. We scheduled a spa appointment but never got the chance to go due to confusions. There was no mini bar menu in the room although there was plenty of other hotel books in the room.
I would say the hotel is more iconic and historic than it is functional and luxurious to stay at.

Loved the experience because of who I was fortunate enough to spend it with. I'm glad I was able to stay before it closes, but I have little doubt that the standards today are a far cry from what they once were. 3* hotel, claiming to be more.

Really disappointed. I was looking forward to visiting and staying at this iconic hotel after hearing the name all these years. I was impressed by the lobby and the staff, but really let down when I got to my room. I was upgraded to a suite that reminds me of the early 1900s. Many items in the room are in disrepair; the couch is grungy, the "minibar" has electrical tape on the corner, the carpet could stand to be replaced, and the furnishings and other fixtures are on the verge of tacky. Maybe my bar was too high, but I was hoping for more. The saving grace from a one-star review was the accommodating and friendly staff.

The hotel has an old historical feeling. A big glorious lobby for check in. Our room was very humid and hot. The heat wouldn't shut off no matter what we tried. The tv was good no msg msg+ or nhl network to watch hockey. The bed and pillows were super soft and comfortable. Room service waldorf salad was delicious but you would need 4 of them to make a regular size adult salad for 1. The hotel staff was very polite and smiled. Unfortunately the guy outside who puts your luggage in the taxi is a grouch and demanded a tip for placing two tiny bags in the trunk without asking us to do so. Last impression was a fake smile and a rude baggage man who had the taxi wait while he said you got something for me. As the taxi pulled away we watched him muttering what looked like dirty curse words. I was unprepared only carrying 20s. We needed to make a train and didn't need to be stressed out about an angry bell man who expected a tip. The meeting room louis was good and our business lunch was awesome. Great waldorf salad unlimited and the veggie wraps are absolutely delicious. I usually tip everyone and would have remembered that guy and tipped him double but not after that experience. Couldn't access wifi had to sign up for hilton membership but felt that was unnecessary as a guest of a luxury hotel. It's definitely a nice place to stay in manhattan.

It's always been my favorite hotel in NYC. For years, its been MY place to stay in NYC. The lobby has a beautiful monumental clock worth coming in off the street to see. The architecture is classic Art Nouveau. Hilton standards, so high quality.

The Waldorf Astoria New York is a luxury hotel in ...
The Waldorf Astoria New York is a luxury hotel in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The structure, at 301 Park Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets in Midtown Manhattan, is a 47-story 625 ft (191 m) Art Deco landmark designed by architects Schultze and Weaver, which was completed in 1931. The building was the world's tallest hotel from 1931 until 1963, when it was surpassed by Moscow's Hotel Ukraina by 23 feet (7.0 m). An icon of glamour and luxury,[5] the current Waldorf Astoria is one of the world's most prestigious and best known hotels.[6] Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts is a division of Hilton Hotels, and a portfolio of high-end properties around the world now operate under the name, including in New York City. Both the exterior and the interior of the Waldorf Astoria are designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission as official landmarks.
The original Waldorf Astoria was built in two stages, as the Waldorf Hotel and the Astoria Hotel, which accounts for its dual name. That original site was situated on Astor family properties along Fifth Avenue, opened in 1893, and designed by Henry J. Hardenbergh. It was demolished in 1929 to make way for the construction of the Empire State Building.
Particularly after its relocation, the Waldorf Astoria gained international renown for its lavish dinner parties and galas, often at the center of political and business conferences and fundraising schemes involving the rich and famous. Particularly after World War II it played a significant role in world politics and the Cold War, culminating in the controversial World Peace Conference of March 1949 at the hotel, in which Stalinism was widely denounced. Conrad Hilton acquired management rights to the hotel on October 12, 1949, and the Hilton Hotels Corporation finally bought the hotel outright in 1972. It underwent a $150 million renovation by Lee Jablin in the 1980s and early 1990s, and in October 2014 it was announced that the Anbang Insurance Group of China had purchased the Waldorf Astoria New York for US$1.95 billion, making it the most expensive hotel ever sold. On July 1, 2016, Anbang announced that it would convert some of the Waldorf's hotel rooms into condominiums, closing the hotel for a three-year renovation on March 1, 2017. The renovated structure will house 375 hotel rooms and 375 brand-new residential condos.
The Waldorf Astoria and Towers has a total of 1,413 hotel rooms as of 2014. In 2009, when it had 1,416 rooms, the main hotel had 1,235 single and double rooms and 208 mini suites, while the Waldorf Towers, from the 28th floor up to the 42nd, had 181 rooms, of which 115 were suites, with one to four bedrooms. Several of the luxury suites are named after celebrities who lived or stayed in them such as the Cole Porter Suite, the Royal Suite, named after the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, the MacArthur Suite and the Churchill Suite. The most expensive room, the Presidential Suite, is designed with Georgian-style furniture to emulate that of the White House. It was the residence of Herbert Hoover from his retirement for over 30 years, and Frank Sinatra kept a suite at the Waldorf from 1979 until 1988. The hotel has three main restaurants: Peacock Alley, The Bull and Bear Steak House, and La Chine a new Chinese restaurant that replaced Oscar's Brasserie in late 2015. Sir Harry's Bar, also located in the hotel, is named after British explorer Sir Harry Johnston.

I stayed at this hotel with my mother last year. We had live cockroaches crawl over our bed. I called the front desk and they sent security and a so called manager on duty. I showed them pictures of the live bugS on the bed. When the security lifted the mattress they found more dead and alive cockroaches. They moved us to another dirty room. We had to move again to another room in such a hurry we left and lost personal items. Then, to add insult to such a frustrating stay they over charged us on our final bill. When we tried to get it resolved by telephone we were routed to someone that did not speak English. They were impossible to deal with. I still have the pictures of the cockroaches on my telephone and share them with friends. We were disgusted and over charged at the Waldorf Astoria NYC. CHECK FOR COCKROACHES IN YOUR BED!
