I regard The Village Grocer as an up scale grocery store which carries products of the very best quality. However there seem to be an issue with the use of their plastic bag at the cash register. I suggest either charge for the bags like No Frill and adapt their image or up the price of your products to cover the cost of bags. ( No Frills have lower prices so I under them.) So Evan instruct your cashiers that this is a high end store so they should use the bag to reflect the store as such. (Checkout the cashiers at Longos.)

One of my favourite go-tos in Markham! This place seriously has it all, and I don't even go there to grocery shop yet! There's way too many items to comment on, so here's a list of must trys:

Bakery:
- Churro and cheesecake doughnuts
- Shadow cake
- Chocolate raspberry cake
- Pecan tarts

Diner:
- Chicken Caesar wrap
- Croissant sandwiches

Hot food/Salad bar:
- Mac and cheese
- Lasagna
- Meatballs

Candy;
- Awesome Blossoms
- Any of the gummies!

Even better, this place offers a very community type vibe. In the summer they had a BBQ that sampled a bunch of items from their store which was cool.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone! It's amazing!

Boutique grocery store, however on the pricey side. They have a sit-in cafe where one can enjoy breakfast, snacks or dinner with coffee. Baked goods & cooked foods are excellent. Good service.

Lots of really nice food and some interesting items I haven't seen in many other places. The only thing is that you end up paying a premium for most of the stuff, but it's nice to go to splurge now and then

It's a big place. It's like a country general store with a wide variety of good quality merchandise. The food is unique. I would recommend it, if you are looking for something different.

A great store overall. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. All kinds of food and an excellent selection of plants as well. And.......the best sandwiches I have had in the entire GTA. No kidding.

Food quality is amazing. All the workers are helpful and kind at the meat section. There is ONE cashier that always gives me attitude on every visit though. (She has a brown curly pixie cut, kind of short with glasses. Maybe 50 - 60 years old?) Today she ignored me when I was unloading my groceries and continued to chat with her coworker and started calling someone. Then she tossed my groceries into a bag without thought. You should know better not throw a bag of oranges on top of a cake right? Other than her ruining my visit every time, I otherwise love Village Grocer.

Like their system of giving you a cleaned shopping cart on entering. If there are no carts available you can't enter the store until someone leaves.Great way to keep tabs on the number of customers in the store.

Specialty grocery store with great choice of quality meats and produce. Prepared dishes made in-house are top notch . Family owned and operated with a huge selection of quality food. Nice cafe serving lunches and desserts. Wonderful selection of seasonal plants and garden paraphenalia. One stop shopping in a delightful, friendly environment.

Great selection of gourmet products. Be prepared to pay for them as everything is priced much higher than your average grocery store. But hey, The Village Grocer is certainly not average.

The Village Grocer, is a top notch, gourmet grocer with first rate quality. Their kitchen chefs are second to none, their serving staff are all extremely friendly. The atmosphere is cosy and family friendly and runs like a well oiled wheel. Many products are available from all over the world, and the garden centre is not to missed, they have everything. Special events and weekly 'specials' keep me coming back. My confidence in their quality is 5 star rated. Thank you for being in Markham.

We moved over half an hour's drive away several years ago, yet still make the trip quite regularly. The meats are always top quality and the bakery is excellent. There is an awesome variety of gourmet ingredients that are often difficult to find elsewhere.

I have usually had wonderful experiences here, however yesterday's incident has left me wondering whether I will ever shop here again. We first ordered a cake for my grandmother's birthday where the strawberries looked black, and knowing their baked goods are usually delicious, we figured this must be a one-off. We then came in yesterday and decided to purchase a Valentines Day cake. Since the first cake we purchased a few weeks before looked terrible, we asked to have some sliced strawberries placed on an already baked cheesecake. We clarified we could pick it up the same day and when we came back a few hours later, my mother was basically called a liar, that this would never happen and that we were a day early. Then an employee apologized and advised we could pick any other cake we wanted with a discount for our trouble of coming in for nothing. We agreed, and as we were getting it wrapped up, the president of the store came up and said that they were not going to do anything, calling my mom a liar again, and that the employee would never say such a thing and spoke to her in the most rude manner. My mom who is disabled, was made to wait 30 minutes in the store with no solution, and the worst customer service experience she had ever received. We come here for every special occasion for the last 15 years and we are so disappointed that we were treated so poorly from someone who claims to be the president.

Great variety of prepared high quality foods, and fresh authentic baked goods to satisfy any cravings you might have.

Looking to make your own meals? They have good selection of products and fresh fruits/vegetables and meats -- yes they are a great local supermarket too :)

A grocery store with a twist. A relatively small space is packed with goodness, bakery and meat sections being particularly good. There is a great variety of pies, tarts, and cakes -- prices being on a higher end, for example a .5kg cheese cake costs $25 CAD. Meat shop is awesome for selection of Ontario local meats and friendly staff, who will even supply you with a matching recipe with your purchase -- no kidding -- it'll be printed on the slip that's attached to your purchase.

Its clean, small but artisanal. Only limited customers allowed to be inside at once (right now) and they are really good about cleaning the carts, checking your temp and keeping ppl safe.

So, I went into the village grocer and it was my second time visiting. I had a bad experience the first time I went and I thought that the second time would be better.

Nope.

I approached the confectionary area in hopes to get a cake. It was about 11:30am when I went and there weren t alot of people in the area. I asked a dark haired lady what the price of what the scones were as they didn t have a price. She proceeded to give me a look and rudely asked What? . I corrected myself and repeated my question, thinking she didn t hear me properly.

Once getting the price, I was highly interested in getting some cake, so I asked again how much some of the cakes were. She proceeded to give me a dirty look and answered my questions with a rather cold and irritated tone. I could see that I was unwelcome, which was unusual. Honestly, I m not sure if it s because I asked questions or if it s because I have a chinese accent...but I felt somewhat offended by her actions. Safe to say, I didn t buy anything today.

In writing this review, I reallyyy hope village grocer can teach their employees how to provide better customer service and perhaps actually label their products with a price tag, rather than leave it empty. Really sad that I this experience and I don t think I want to shop here again if this is the customer service that I get whenever I go here.

Rudest people and most stuck up people this side of the city. You will never find me shopper here. Got to the door with my 7 year old kid and because we are part of the same household only one of us can go in. So where exactly do you want me to leave my kid? In the car by himself? No thank you! Never again. Honestly I know covid is around, but still this is a sure way to lose business. I recommend if they tell anybody a similar thing, dont play by that rule.

This is my happy place. I love the fresh produce. The fish and meat counters are well stocked with high quality items. The bakery is over the top. Love the pies. Excellent prepared foods and friendly environment. Great prices on raspberries, strawberries and blackberries. Never a disappointment.

The Village Grocer has a great selection of amazing #produce (a lot of it is #local) and interesting products you don't always find at other grocery stores. The staff was really welcoming, too. I will definitely be coming back!

A unique grocery store. Feels like you are in Europe, we are used to large discount retailers everywhere.
They have great and unique local produce and a great cake selection.

A bit pricey of course but I am sure you will find something here that will make you come back several times.

A community fixture, with some delicious products you won't find anywhere else, (-many of which are made in-store). I worked for this company as a young man and I don't think people realize how much work goes on behind the scenes... Great store and great people~!!

I live two stone s throw away from this might gem of a local market/mini market/grocer/baker/deli/butcher.

They project a cultural tone to this area that one should be proud.

We have all seen how they weathered the lockdown in March/April 2020. I like their style.

If I wasn t working so much, I would be spending more time and money at this lovely place.

A very nice boutique supermarket. Has a lot of unique items that you won t find in regular grocery stores. But know that you will pay premium for some ordinary products. Some are just worth trying even for the premium price!! Tried the cakes a couple times and very tasty and flavourful. Haven t had items from their hot table but during the lunch hour, it seems like a lot of traffic going towards the ready made meals. Will go back to try out some snack items for the family that I saw in passing!!

worst customer service ever. They yet to call me for a simple item they had on display with no price tag that I wanted to buy. went there twice after that and left messages, no answer.
just need to add that during covid 19 they have untrained people at the door giving people bad attitude.
