The resort is showing its age a bit, but the location is beautiful and the staff is great. Highly recommended for some R&R.

Beautiful location, we'll keep grounds, top notch personal, and I am told a great golf course
Relaxing and comfortable resort in a lovely location.
Great evening at the Tides Inn. Dinner was spectacular and the service first rate.
We we're there for a wine tasting. They over sold the event. It was so crowded you could not move. The heat was set on high which made it unbearably hot. The grounds are beautiful but this place is very pricey.
We LOVED our visit at the Tides Inn!! We spent three nights there August, 2013 and the whole experience was wonderful and relaxing! Staff is so friendly, "Glad you're here" feeling and attitude of the staff; George, the GM is available, welcoming and friendly.
Grounds are beautiful! Complimentary bikes to ride around town; daily rides on the Carter Creek viewing the houses on the shore line. Gym is older and dated, several tread mills, few weight machines.
Food was very good! Can dine outside for all meals, evenings- there's a bonfire on the beach and smores for the kids! Even outdoor movies on the grass (family themes) with popcorn included.
A great romantic getaway or family weekend!!
IMPORTANT TIP - Don't eat at the Trick Dog :-( Terrible service, unhelpful Mgmt Staff, food was OK and pricey!
We booked a long weekend to celebrate our1st anniversary. A great trip! Incredibly beautiful grounds with very nice staff. We brought our 2 dogs and it was impressive to see so many dog friendly opportunities. Don t miss out on the fantastic Paint and Sip with Li she even made an artist out of me.
beautiful location. staff was attentive ...and food was really good! we will be back!
Beautiful place. The wait staff were wonderful especially by the pool. The charged us for the mini-bar once while we were there and charged our credit card twice for the mini-bar. We tried to explain that we didn t even have a key and did not access it during our stay. Still haven t removed the charges. Probably will not return for another visit. Very disappointed!
Excellent area quiet and peaceful and calming and very good food
Beautiful location and excellent service. We came for dinner and I would say that the food is not quite up to snuff considering what they're charging for it. Otherwise a pleasant experience.
My husband and I stayed here for the weekend and we had a blast. The staff was so friendly and helpful. There was SO much to do! He and I got to enjoy the Frisbee golf, tennis courts, croquet set, outside swimming pool down by the waterfront, I had an amazing massage, we got to go kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. All in one weekend! Additionally, there are a number of good spots to eat within a short drive. It's worth checking Google for the top rated eateries and having a bite or a cup of coffee! My honey and I will definitely stay here again!
I was so excited to visit the Tides Inn; I planned our weekend away for over a year! When we arrived my heart sank because the hotel was in need of major repairs. It was like a bad bait and switch compared to the website.
The grounds are overgrown and unkept, the grass is yellowing, there was so much wood rot on the exterior, the entire place needs painting, etc
We paid for a balcony king room and it was small, dated, and musty smelling. We had such a poor experience from the first impression we left after one night and went to Virginia Beach instead.
Note: I am in my late 20's and felt there was not much to do. I was by no means looking for a party scene, but we like hotel activities and places with exceptional experiences. The Tides Inn certainly fell short. The website and photos make it look much larger and in top condition- it seems no one has actually done any upkeep.
All in all, we stayed for less than 12 hours and that was long enough. AND did I mention we paid top dollar for all of this? How is this a 4 Diamond Resort??!!??
Stopped in to walk the property and look at the views. It's a pretty place.
What a gorgeous hotel! It had every amenity and the staff was incredible.
Stayed here for a wedding. Everyone said it was the best wedding ever. Great views. Only problem I had was the carpet is so old looking! Old carpet in the rooms, old carpet in the restaurant. If they would just replace it it would really update the place.
One of the nicest resorts on the east coast. You can even take your boat and park and either stay on our boat or book one of their fabulous rooms. The food is as amazing as their accommodations and the veteran employees show why they have worked there for years--some for decades. They treat their employees as well as they treat their guests. A gem on the Northern Neck.
Our stay at the Tides Inn was the best vacation ever! We are a young adult couple; we stayed in a deluxe king room with a water view for 3 nights (stay 2 nights 3rd night free special if you book online). Daily resort fee includes unlimited use of pool, kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, pedal boats, and bikes and other activities - yoga, intro to paddle board etc. Can pay for other activities for a small fee such as afternoon or sunset cruises, or for a larger price jet ski excursions and sailing lessons (we had enough fun on the water with the free boating equipment and paddleboard lesson that we didn't feel the need to pay for more boating). Highly recommend Li's Paint and Sip art class! Fantastic dining options (restaurant, outdoor terrace, and poolside plus more) with the most professional and hardworking service I have ever seen. Free coffee in the morning, cookies and lemonade in the afternoon, and s'mores at night - what a treat! We noticed the staff was also very helpful with those who needed mobility assistance - wheelchairs, walkers, etc - they helped transport by golf cart and escorted guests around the pool and the terrace. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful in making our stay fantastic; multiple employees told us they love their guests and it definitely shows at all levels of service. We will definitely be returning for years to come! (Photo: the view from our room).
Pros: The resort is very nice. It is well-maintained and the most (see cons for clarification) of the staff there are very hardworking and extremely accomodating, especially considering all the challenges with COVID-19. The food was pretty good, but the menu is a bit limited for vegetarian-friendly options.
Cons: As I said, most of the staff was great. However, we did have an issue with one of the restaurant managers. My wife made a reservation for our anniversary dinner a few weeks in advance and specifically requested outdoor seating. The hostess said the only available time was 845pm, which is completely fine. However, when we go to dinner, the restaurant manager said outdoor seating is first-come, first-served. It is a little ridiculous that, in this COVID-environment, they only have 6 outdoor tables (they are a wedding venue, I'm sure they have more than 6 outdoor tables. Even during breakfast, we had to sit around a fire pit in order to eat outside). Second, he could be a little accomodating, considering we were extremely hesitant about eating inside. Had it been earlier, we could have found somewhere else to eat, but there are few options in Irvington. The experience ultimately left a pretty bad taste in our mouths. When we checked out, we explained that all was great except this experience. However, it doesn't seem like anything was done about it.
The food is excellent, I only went for drinks and appetizers.
Too expensive didn't charge right for what was first agreed on over charged on just about everything also facility rundown and need maintenance
Fun visit, everyone is very friendly. But rooms and property were kind of small. Amenities such as free kayak and paddle board rental was nice. Restaurant left a little to be desired, but still good food. Nothing to complain about and worth a visit if in area.
We stayed in a slip and very much enjoyed our overnight. Swam, had drinks, on the water, dinner. . Gee a good time. Thanks to the Marina staff too!
Nice but old. Great service and waterfront rooms. Enjoyed the food and setting. Came by boat several times years ago and always had a great time.
We had very high expectations and you all exceeded them. Beautiful place with an amazing staff. Thank you all for all the hard work!
The Tides is a nice place to visit, and easily the most notable in Irvington. The food is almost entirely seafood, but it is all very good, and the view is unbeatable
Service is awful, the WIFI doesn't work anywhere on the property. Will never go back.
Great location, view and friendly staff, but they need fridge with freezer and not stocked full of items to sell so can't put own items in it. Also, put microwaves in rooms so folks want to stay longer because they can have options in room. Cold lunch Turkey sandwiches for 2 with chips and 10 oz. Cokes shouldn't cost over $39.
Great place by the water, I will be taking in more weekends here
Brunch was good, flies were everywhere near our table, very distracting and unsanitary. For the cost, place could use some re-decorating and eliminate the musty smell.
The staff were super friendly and helpful. It was a nicely decorated laid back atmosphere. Our rooms were very nice. The beds were super comfortable and the view from my room was beautiful. It was very nice having a patio and chairs right outside my room! It was a nice area to sit and have your morning coffee. The grounds were nicely maintained. We had s'mores by a huge bonfire and enjoyed the tranquility of our surroundings. The food was good, too! The fried oysters were delicious!
Service is great, our room is amazing, and while the food items are overpriced, that doesn't detract from the overall experience.
I didn't stay, I was on a boat. However the marina showers and bathrooms were well kept. The marina itself was impressive.
Absolutely beautiful Chesapeake Bay Resort in Irvington, VA. Rich in history and amazing location, this resort offers so many great amenities including a full-service spa, access to the marina and the pristine Golden Eagle golf course to list a few. We are so grateful to be featured as a small part of their gift shop.

Very beautiful and accommodating place for the wedding I attended. It is a little pricey but worth it if you can afford it
My family and I have enjoyed many visits to the Tides Inn - lots of options for fun from kayaking to tennis to sailing to golf or just playing on in the pool- this our last visit I must say the food was the best part. Every meal we had was good and the crab cakes were the best I have had ( saying a lot for someone who grew up in Annapolis ). my wife mentioned twice at a meal, best I have had... . Rooms are great - recommended The Tides to my brother in-law and he came back saying it was awesome. - they made great use of the provided bikes
It is a gem. The rooms are spacious, the views are terrific and the staff could not be friendlier.
Old style hotel/inn. Has a lot of class and a gorgeous location. Showing its age a bit but well maintained. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The view out of our room was lovely. The food was good but now awe inspiring. Great place to get away and relax.
Needs some updating , and the rooms were ridiculously musty. It could be a really nice place with some work
Beautiful with outstanding gracious Southern service
The menu Never changes. Has been the same for years. Chef is one rated!
Going to The Tides Inn is how I found the fabulous Northern Neck! So glad I went. Our family has had many venues there. Great place.
Beautiful views, friendly, courteous staff but pretty pricey.
Sweet little place, can't really handle a big crowd.
Beautiful venue. Great service. Exceptional good sourced locally.
Had dinner with fabulous friends! Becca was our server and was very personable. Food, delicious as always! We sat out on the patio overlooking Carter Creek. Beautiful evening!
Great food, great service. We ate on the patio on a warm afternoon. Memorable. :-)
We Love Irvington VA a lovely quaint easy walking town
I received a phone message from Susan Williamson and she was very concerned about our stay. She listened to my concerns and seemed to truly want to make it right. My husband and I don t travel very much anymore so it was very disappointing to have such bad luck. Thank you to Susan for believing in Tides Inn. I hope she can help with our return.
Fantastic.. relaxing and beautiful. Staff is excellent to work with. A must see... great for the whole family... definitely try the lunch cruise and eat at Mirroir restaurant!
My friend and I decided to try the new" Fish Hawk" restaurant at the poolside of the Tides Inn. The service was quick, the staff friendly and pleasant, the food flavorful. The decor bright, fresh, and coastal. A snack bar for munchies is there also, and close to the pool area
The water views are sweeping and fit into the overall restaurants concept very well.
Though a bit pricey, I think you'll enjoy the resort vibe and have a good time. I enjoyed it, so give it a try!
Old buildings, well maintained. Beautiful landscaping. Nice, small par 3 golf course. Spa. Separate, named and unique buildings for overnight. Expensive dining, excellent food and chef. Valets. Staff friendly and helpful. Small marina, dock and beach. Outdoor dining. Live music. A unique, southern homie but classy experience.
Nice, but overpriced to hold an association's two day quarterly meeting.
Excellent resort and very nice amenities, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful with all of our questions and concerns.
Had a great staff retreat here. Loved the grounds and all the included activities!
Covid precautions were followed very well. The room was smaller than expected, but comfortable. The food was good and the service was very good. There is a lot to do and comfortable places to relax. A pedicure at the spa was wonderful. One major flaw - we booked the Sunset Cruise through the hotel and the cruise was canceled but we were not notified. The woman at the desk didn t know anything about it and wasn t sure who to call. Not the communication and service we expected.
Nice location but poorly maintained. Tub drain clogged, broken glass on rug in front of the sink. Carpet in hallway not vacuumed during our two night stay. Dinner wait staff were talking loudly about others. This could be a great vacation spot if they put some time into training staff and cleaning. Will not recommend it.
Nice marina and pool. Service a little slow. Restaurant was just okay.
Last night open until they reopen in April. Great old style hotel. Have had many good times there.
Historical Hotel on the waterfront, Pool and restaurant nearby for casual dining or go on to the main interior of the hotel for a more elegant surrounding, views are very nice, quiet scenic area with some walking trail areas.
My son and I visited the Inn for Thanksgiving. Overall, we were satisfied. Our room, however, was missing a fridge, (which we called for but never came) and was quite noisy. We could hear complete conversations from the adjoining room. We were to receive ice each evening that never came and the patio table was badly cracked. Not good for such a well known resort. The decorations in the Inn were lovely but someone should check the pictures in the lounge as they were all crooked. We will probably return again but certainly would expect a better, quieter room.
