This use to be my favorite place, but something changed recently. The presentation and the food is just an ordinary, it used to be outstanding. We ordered devils eggs and artichoke for appetizer. I ordered scallops for dinner and could not get any taste of it. Sure enough I was food poisoned. I was very very sick! I called the restaurant the next day and was dismissed. They told me it is impossible, the manager supposed to follow-up but never did. Very rude, I will be sure never to return to that place. It supposed to be a fine dine, the prices still are but the food is not.

We've visited The Stained Glass for restaurant week and found the restaurant to be kid friendly and vegetarian friendly. Great service! Wonderful ambience! Our omnivore friends loved it as well. Especially the dish with the three different types of tuna. But the steak for adults and children were also a favorite as well as the three different creme brulees. What a gem of a restaurant to have nearby for special occasions! We'll visit again but without the kids!

The Stained Glass/The Cellar have been long time favorites of mine. It wasn t until last month when I had the most unprofessional event experience with them that I have decided to not give them my business. After having to search for new wedding venues last minute, My cousin and I were relieved when were able to reserve the venue for her intimate wedding reception 2 weeks before the wedding. After following up with the events manager with a few questions, she responded saying that they decided to book an even smaller party than ours. They gave away our reservation of the space without even the consideration of calling us or giving us options- 1 week from the day of the wedding. When we replied to the very short email, we got no response. We asked for the owner to call us, we have never received a call. We understand that these are uncertain times given COVID, but I feel standards of service remain. It is wrong to give away a reservation of such an important day without explanation or without consideration.

Rich, sharp, delicious cheese and breadcrumb stuffed artichoke with nicely burnt tips. The mushroom risotto was a little bland for me. It had a curious maybe cinnamon flavor to it which was fun. Excellent chocolate cake. Creamy layers, deeply chocolatey. The creme brulee sampler was cute. The portions were just a little too small an I didn't care for the consistency of the orange one.

Fillet mignon made to perfection! Oysters were better than other seafood restaurants in Evanston. It didn't have a fishy flavor. Server was also pleasant and knowledge able in helping us choose wine! Intimate ambiance!

Outstanding American cuisine fit for foodies, gr8 service and vibe, fine dining experience, pricey so special occasion but affordable pricey, I suspect this establishment could help u host special group events. I don't live in the area but regard this restaurant as a destination worth the travel. Menu not what I'd call meat and potatoes, this is gourmet dining

Food was excellent - tenderloin tartare, Maple breast duck, and pecorino ravioli were all stand outs. Although not huge, they also have a very good whiskey selection. Bar service lively, fun as well.

It can be hard to innovate at a cousine that is already very popular and The Stained Glass excels in it. A very nice restaurant with very nice people and amazing food. We ordered the Lobster Bisque and the Crab Cake as appetizers. Both were amazing, especially the soup. In entree we had Australian Lamb Rack and another dish with crab. I absolutely loved both the dishes and would definitely recommend this to a friend. On an average the entree size are okey for one person and costs about $30-40 which is about average for a good restaurant in Chicago downtown, however it may seem a bit more for Evanston but I would definitely say the food was worth it.

From San Francisco. Tried Stained Glass for first time. Beautiful experience all around. Unique menu and delicious food. Best of all was the George Shearing Quartet playing on the piped in music. Lovely place.

A bit pricey for the quality. A bit of old-world feel - low lighting, velvet, etc. For a more reasonably priced and modern alternative try "The Cellar" - a sister restaurant around the corner from "The Stained Glass".

I would really like to give this restaurant 3.5 stars, but 3 stars is too harsh, so 4 it is. I had the crab cake appetizer and the scallop entree. Both were cooked correctly, and they tasted good, but they were not particularly memorable, either. The food was a bit pricey for what you got. The service was okay. I was pleased with the wine recommendation. I was surprised, however, that the server never asked how the food was. He seemed to have a lot of tables to cover, so perhaps that was why he wasn't around much.

We were 6 for dinner during new year's eve, the menu was fixed (three courses and dessert).
The food wasn't very good for my taste. Crab Bisque (first course) was avarege and not very seasoned. Pecorino Ravioli (second course) was nice but all of the ingridiants in the dish just didn't added up well to a good bite. Prime new york strip (third course) was very good but again the side dish of beets and crab gratine (felt like potatoes to me) lowered the whole dish experience. The dessert was the biggest disappointment because i realy like lemon tart and white chocolate, but the Key Lime Tart was just a lot of dough with a slight flavor of those two.

The place itself is nice but gives a bit old-fashioned vibes and the service was good except that our waiter spelt (not on purpose of course) my drink on my hand (the cocktail was great).

Last week was our first time in this restaurant. But It is obviously not the last time. We had a good time with the good service, with the excellent cooking and booze and with the honest pay. We will no doubt return there in a short time.
