I was at the St George and Dragon in a party of five, in contrast to some of the comments here we found the food very good with plenty of choice and reasonable prices, it was also piping hot. Two of us had burgers which were served with cheese, onions and gherkins some relish and a buket of chips. The other diners had porkbelly stuffed with black pudding, and haddock and chips. People on the next door table had scallops which smelled delicious. I can also recommend the white chocolate creme brulee if you have space. The drinks service was a little slow but the pub was full and the waitress was friendly and helpful

Sadly just now ok.. 2 to 3 stars. Poor food quality. Service tried hard but the whole thing was pretty bad given how good it used to be. No better than a toby carvery but not as cheap or nice. Very sad given it's location.
Great location by the Thames everything else is 0. Food was tastles, cold and small portions and that's after wrong meals were brought to us. Dirty tables, glasses plates everywhere. Service some of the worst I've seen, very unorganized useless extremly slow staff. Such a shame as pub and its location is great. Cant believe how some people run these businesses. Management needs changing. Will not be coming back or recommending to anyone
Beautiful location even though it was raining and had to be indoors. The cod and chips and Dirty Burger were delicious! Lovely staff! Received a warm welcome and had great service throughout our visit. What a Fab night!
5 cold main courses sent back, drinks order totally mucked up, waitress who could barely speak English and then couldn't even get the bill right. Certainly won't be back or recommending.
I had the salad which was fine but my boyfriend had the fish and chips. Clearly the fish and just been put in the microwave as the batter was soft, the triple cooked chips were hard and basically like raw potato. We didn't get table service outside and it wasnt even that busy. We complained about the fish and chips, waitress was polite and exchanged it for a pizza, again under cooked. We would rather wait than the food being rushed! Food has gone down hill so much recently such a shame as we are local and love popping by for a last minute meal out.
Really disappointed with Vegan salad. Pitifully small portion and had to ask for avocado which had been omitted. Vegan burger okay but bread bun toasted to a crisp and dry. Definitely won't eat here again
Just got back home from an excellent Christmas dinner at St George & Dragon. Good atmosphere & great location down by the river at Wargrave. Waiter service was very good, attentive but not pushy. The food was really excellent, starters, main courses & desserts plentiful & delicious. My wife & I, our son & mother-in-law had a table by the window & would highly recommend.
The food is very poor. My starter of lobster and crab was gloopy and tasteless. A potato soup was swimming with potato skins and the taco was not a taco. It was difficult to find the couscous in an alleged couscous salad which appeared to have left over veg in it. The food quality needs serious improvement. The service was lacklustre and inattentive. Location is very nice and it is a shame it is let down by food.
Thoroughly recommend The St George and Dragon. Delicious food, newly renovated restaurant and very attentive staff. There's a nice roaring fire for the winter and a picture perfect deck over the river for summer! We will definitely be returning.
Had a great Sunday roast there. Sevice was top notch and food was superbly cooked and tasty. Will definitely be going back for more. Our little 2y.o girl also loved her burger sliders with fries.
Well where do I start, giving it one start is being generous.
Our table of ordered drinks, we got given wrong drinks for two of us and then they said that "the apple juice is close enough to appetiser anyway" but we asked for appetiser, they said they had it, they gave us something else, good start. Starters ordered, went better, tasted nice abit tight on the portion of duck and port pate, but never mind.
To send out 5 main course and sides all cold is quite embarrassing from a kitchen point of view if I'm honest. On the bill at the end they charged us for everything we had, plus stuff we didn't have, drinks we didn't order, drink they brought instead of another which we didn't want to start with and I know it's there discretion but nothing off the bill for the fact that all 5 meals where colder than an Iceland freezer. The waitress we had aswell wasn't exactly any use either in fact I wouldn't got more sense and help from the nice white brick wall to the left of me and all of this to celebrate my brothers 30th birthday, an absolute shambles on there behalf and with no real action done from there staff either.
Shocking & embarrassing, wouldn't recommend to my worse enemy, I would like to say thank you, but I wouldn't really know what I'd be thanking you for, other than wasting our time. .....
- The restaurant was freezing cold - The waitress got 2/3 drinks orders wrong - We were advised of dishes not being available, then when ordering were told the dishes we were trying to order also weren't available - Service was slow and we had to leave the table several times to locate a member of staff - All 5 main courses arrived stone cold and had to be sent back - Half the dishes were returned just reheated - the burgers had shrunk considerably
- Bill arrived with no gesture of goodwill or discount following the awful experience - Terrible service from front of house and kitchen and an obvious lack of care for customers
Great location and a fantastic place to come when the sun's out. Can't help but think that is the only thing they are trading on these days... Beer is expensive and doesn't really have that pub vibe if not in the summer, food doesn't change very often and is mediocre at best - could really do with an update and some creativity
Dreadful meal - waited nearly an hour for 5 meals of varying quality, the most woeful bring some incinerated sea bass on top of half a new potato. Foolishly ordered dessert to be presented with half a scoop of melting frozen yogurt in the middle of a dinner plate with 4 small strawberries, stalks still attached, stuck on the side. Supposed to be a birthday celebration for my dad and my daughter but we all ended up very disappointed. Won t go back.
Food and service was disappointing. We waited ages for food to come, I think staff forgot we were there. When food came my girlfriend only ate half of it as it wasn't very nice - how can a chef mistake feta cheese for brie in a Greek mezze..... Its a shame as we used go to this pub/restaurant frequently and normally receive good food and service, unfortunately something has changed in the last 6 months and the pub has gone downhill. If your just going for a pint then its a nice pub, but for food Im not convinced. We will give it another chance one day and hope to good times return.
The food is excellent but not cheap. The service is somewhat lacking at busy times and the noise level is horrendous. I dine out in order to enjoy a nice meal and be able to converse without having to shout. If that is your idea of a pleasant evening then don't go here. Lastly, there are beautiful views over the Thames from their terrace.
The food was very tasty, the drinks were good, the bar inside looks good, the outside area however needs some attention. The waiters walked over fallen napkins and menus which made the outside look more scruffy, are they paid enough? This is somewhere we go to frequently, it was a bit disappointing to see it looking down at heel.
We popped in on a Friday early evening for a few drinks and dinner. It happened to be the same night as the Wargrave regatta so initially we thought it might be quite fun, but we re not sure whether the busy atmosphere led to the food being a bit of a let down. We ordered a lamb kofta, and the lamb really was tasteless, I was expecting even a hint of spice, but my taste buds were convincing me I was eating mushy cardboard. The seafood pasta also felt monotonous after the first bite as all the flavour felt like it had been left in the ocean. We re 100% sure the prawns were frozen as they had that bland taste and slightly rubbery texture. We also had the Cajun chicken and chips and to be honest it wasn t that bad, with the spices at least registering some flavour, but the chicken was a little dry. The pizza and bangers and mash were surprisingly ok, but the bangers and mash were supposed to be a child s portion and depending on the size of it, I m not sure how big the child is intended to be. Anyway compared to the quality of the other food, we weren t going to complain. Overall the food was a bit of a let down as the pub is in a great location, perched on the Thames and the staff were generally quite nice and attentive. If they find some spices and a new menu this place could be great.
Arrived by boat, moorings crowded but got lucky as another boat just leaving. Bar service was a little slow, on a sunny Saturday lunchtime you would expect more bar staff. Beer good, ambiance great, did not eat.
Took my mother in law here for a birthday 'treat' on Sunday. We booked for 12 o clock and were the first there. The place soon filled up and at 12.20 we were asked if we'd like drinks. At 12.45 we ordered our mains (having decided not to have starters due to the wait!) and the mains arrived at 1.10pm. The service is truly shocking. The roast dinners were OK but neither mine or my wife's pork came with mustard or cracking as stated on the menu. A truly awful experience and won't be going back there anytime soon.
Such a lovely pub. Full of great atmosphere, great food and a large decking area on the River. Initially we were invited a complimentary evening before the relaunch and the food and service was fantastic I had Lamb Kofta salad to start which was delicious on a bed of salad. And the buttermilk southern fried chicken with sweet potatos fries it was delicious. This time round my boyfriend ordered the lamb koftas which were tiny and you only get 2 (I can't remember how many I had had initially) but most of the bowl was full of tomatoes... I had the truffle goats cheese which came with a very large rice cracker and pickled red onions. A shame because the pickled red onions made the rest of the dish too vingeray for me to enjoy and the cracker tasted oily. Nice touch with the chopped apple and beetroot but I wouldn't order it again. For main I had the baked cod loin on the specials, with chorizo mash and green beans. Wow, this was delicious! If you see this on the specials I highly recommend it! Boyfriend had the crab and lobster fishcakes, il be having those next time! Truffle is added to the asparagus puree which was a little strong for my liking but another dish that I would recommend. You can order is with salad or fries, I'd say salad as the fishcake already has potato in and you get full up quicker should you have it with fries. All in all a lovely pub I'd highly recommend for a drink by the river or a nice meal out. I would have given it 5 star but as the starters weren't great for the price Iv given 4 stars.
After lunch there today (8th, June 2014) and as a now ex-regular customer, please be well advised to give this place a miss at busy times. The service is slow (10-15 minutes for drinks; 30-40 minutes for food) and attention to cleanliness poor (tables not wiped between parties and cutlery having to be requested after the food eventually arrived). Once the food did arrive, the roast beef was inedible (grisly and tough) and the Yorkshire Pudding wouldn't have seen the light of day north of Watford. To top it all off, when I answered re the above to the young barman when he asked if "I had enjoyed it?", he responded by informing me "Well it isn't my fault!" I replied that he obviously didn't care what his clients thought and he impertinently told me that it was the way I had addressed the matter. One of the more senior staff intervened and went to inform the manager, who after another period of waiting showed the same level of concern and interest simply stating that he was busy (why enter the catering and service industry then?!?) and that he would have a word with him. They don't deserve your custom!
Great pub..fantastic outdoor terrace with views over the Thames. Great and varied menu. Inside is very sleek with lots of room if you are looking for a intimate quiet corner. Highly recommended.
It was a 50/50 experience, half of the group had lovely meals with no issues, the other half unfortunately had to have their food re heated a couple of times as it came out cold, lovely views and I had a lovely meal shame it wasnt consitstant
This a nice pub come restaurant situated on the banks of the river Thames. Wonderful in the summer months when you can sit by the river or on the veranda. Also some of the staff are helpful particularly a lady manager called Alexander.
Stunning riverside location, fabulous outside eating area, great modern decor, well maintained. Friendly & helpful staff. Food was outstanding. Will definitely visit again.
