Sick place, came down on boat and moored up right outside. Staff are amazing and pizzas couldn t be better. Thank you!!!
Good was a little disappointing on the evening we visited but will try again
Every time I come here there's always something that goes wrong. This time it was a simple bowl of fries that took ages and the "aoili" never turned up. Otherwise a fantastic location for drinking on the decking and river front.
Small portion sizes, waited a while for the food and even longer for the bill which we ended up paying at the bar. Service was slower then the norm and not many people came to check if we wanted more drinks, desert menu etc. Food was nice nothing to write home about but the pimms was rather nice!
We had a lovely roast dinner yesterday, I had the nut roast-very tasty! One of the waiting staff in particular, Lucy (if I remember correctly) was so attentive and friendly. Looking forward to returning in a few weeks when you reopen again
Generally poor all round. Food poor. Toilets poor. Service poor. Building/ decoration very worn. Location very good.
A very nice riverside pub, having a excellent selection of ales etc.
Excellent food menus
Delicious food and good service. Nice modern-rustic decor.
Promises alot.love the open plan bar area.food is so so.seems to be run by a young inexperienced staff.could be so much more.lots of danger tape Around lots of hand rails and decking fences and table areas.
Come on up your game!!
Very much improved since my last visit some years ago. Good food, lovely presentation.
First visit, staff really friendly, food outstanding, just love the view
Albeit a superb location on the River Thames but with no magnetism or charm.
Perfect spot for an early evening drink on warm sunny days. Huge outdoors area overlooking the river. Bar can be very busy sometimes and waiting can be a problem but it's worth it when you sit back and watch the sunset.
Our family of 9 ate here for the first time for my birthday on Sunday lunchtime. We had impeccable service by a lovely smiling waiter. The food choices were inspired and delicious. 3 vegans in our family said it was the best vegan food they d eating in Berkshire/Oxfordshire ever!! We will definitely be back and will recommend you highly. PS. Please make the cheesecake shard dessert a bit bigger (my son felt cheated that we all had bigger desserts than him!!) thanks
Nicely presented food of high quality made all the better for a quiet Tuesday. Also very friendly. Highly recommended
Lovely pub but too busy in the summer & the food is over priced. Great for outdoor sunday drinking in the sun though
Nice pub, open till late on Sunday for food too which is unusual for the pubs in the area. Great Riverside location with parking, really good food. Worth a few visits
After ordering, the meals arrived to the table within 5 minutes which was a surprise! The food looked amazing but unfortunately that was the only positive from the meal. The food was cold and the roast chicken dinner was dry and tasted as More
Been here several time over past few year. Seems to be going down hill
Top view, great food. Relaxed service. Would recommend.
What a perfect day. The manager treated everyone that came in like a VIP, our server was great and the food fantastic. Beautiful views. Our new favourite pub.
ONGOING COMPLAINT 28/8/20
Thank you for your response. You could have responded in many ways but to suggest that I imagined the conversation with your waitress is deeply disappointing and hurtful. Your response is suggesting we were not following covid rules or and not putting health and safety first. This is incorrect.
Let me make it clear. The main issue we had was that the waitress told us not to sit there, only us, all the other people sat at the benches. She didn't say anything to them.
That is the point. We were made to feel unwelcome they were not. We are very respectful of covid 19 rules and following them. We were patient and respectful to your staff. We had issue with the fact that we were the only one's told by the waitress not to sit there.
This is not something I imagined, our whole brown faced group were told this. I am shocked that you chose not to address this and instead suggested that it didn't happen and you even say 'no one has ever told anyone not to use the tables'. Well on 26th Aug; your waitress clearly told us not to use the tables, which is why I am writing this.
If you are disappointed imagine how we felt especially being a group with young children.
ORIGINAL COMPLAINT 26/8/20
Have never felt so uncomfortable in my life! Is it my skin colour?
We took our canoes from the Henley Canoe Hire club (who were brilliant) and canoed down to the St George and Dragon pub in Wargrave.
We did try to book it for lunch beforehand but were unable to do so due to the government's eat out to help out scheme. It was fully booked.
We saw a lot of the other families that were also canoeing sat on the benches of the pub, eating their sandwiches (bought from another place) and drinks and crisps bought from the pub.
So we were hopped off our canoes hoping to do the same thing. As soon as we did, a waitress rushed out to tell us we were not allowed to sit at the benches. We explained we would be buying drinks and crisps same as the other people. She still kept saying we weren't allowed, even though next to us were many people eating their sandwiches and drinks doing exactly what we planned on doing.
Then I realised it maybe had something to do with us. We were 3 families of South Asian origin with children with us, yes we are all beautiful and brown skinned.
The men from our families each went in to buy the drinks and crisps from the pub but it took them ages and ages to get served. They were ignored and given terrible service. We stay outside on the benches with the children.
As we were waiting for our drinks I noticed, other people coming with canoes and going into the pub and buying drinks and coming out and joining their families, enjoying their sandwiches. We noted that they didnt seem to have any problems getting served or eating sandwiches bought from elsewhere. No one from the pub came out and told them they were not welcome to sit there.
Eventually the guys came back with drinks and crisps for us all. The pub said they would use the government eat out to help out scheme and reduce the price of the crisps and soft drinks but they didn't. We were made to feel very unwelcome so we didn't say anything. The waitress came and gave us some horrible looks.
We had been rowing with young children for around an hour and a half. They were all tired and hungry this so we quickly ate, drank and left. It was a horrible experience and I can't think of any other reason other than the colour of our skin for our disgraceful treatment.
I don't tend to write reviews but I felt so upset by our treatment I am writing this one. I will never go back there. I have never felt my skin colour has affected my treatment in the UK. I consider myself English.
Btw in the time we were eating quickly lots and lots of other people from the same canoe experience and sat down with their families. They sat back leisurely and enjoyed their experience. This experience really tainted my day.
Stumbled by chance on this pub -and got to say its great location and service in this weird Covid times.
As a chef for 20 years the food we were served was to perfection on all the dishes. The menu selection was excellent with many dishes we would have liked to select. The location is beautiful and the service was very good as well. Thank you for a wonderful experience on the day. Very highly recommended to all. We will most certainly return here!
Excellent service once visited you know another visit is going to be on the cards.
We were welcomed in and given a table for two. Enjoyed the drinks (non alcoholic Peroni), the service was good and attentive.
Nice atmosphere. Well looked after, plenty of hand sanitizer, and a simple one-way system for the loos helped to maintain social distancing.
Rare in this locality to have a Thames-side pub. A fair amount of seating on the elevated decking. The food menu is good and served all day. However, I've experienced a bad day when it was busy and despite multiple promises of imminent service, no one could be got to take our food order for over an hour and we had to leave. That was a nice 'welcome to England' for our jet laggged Chinese guests that had just landed. I hesitate to take a group there for food now so haven't since.
Amazing food and reasonably priced. The only down side was the slow service simply lack of staff. But don't let that put you off the food .
Great food, excellent service even though the place was packed on one of the hottest days of the year.
Service mediocre, it decent food and a really nice location.
Best in summer, with a panoramic view of the river, large terrace and wooden tables by the river. You'd find the beer and ale selection better than most places around, having local breweries on tap and in the fridge available. We had tried the food but can't quite say anything special. Prices are OK.
Lovely pub by the river. Good food too. Really worth a look.
Great pub on the river Thames. Good food and drink. Parking area too small for busy times.
Great food, great atmosphere. Plenty of seats outside for when the weathers good!
Terrible. I visited a short while ago and loved it. This time the service was way beyond appalling. Such a disappointment as my guests were from overseas and I took them there after raving about it.
It's a chain. However..given that, it's pretty good. Some good food and beer and a great location. However, today had the spit roast chicken and it didn't taste fresh. So the rating has gone from four to three stars....I also heard the next table so guess they had a poor chef on. The chef makes all the difference....
Wonderful location, shame they don't do customer service. Arrived on a hot afternoon by row boat, gasping for a beer... initially refused to serve takeaway for some unknown reason... despite having takeaway options. Stood my ground though and was begrudgingly served. No smiles no hellos... Even after lockdown!!!! Would have gone elsewhere but they have a special location....
Location is super. Food is not. Never sent back a Sunday Roast before in my life until today. Any restuarant that serves a dish literally 2 mins after the order taken is a worry!!
Very pleasant surroundings but food definitely gone down hill, had the pork belly with scallops, had it before and was amazing, this time smaller portion by quite a margin and the pork itself was small dry and over cooked to the point of chewy, the scallop was well cooked but it was one scallop cut in half, gone from having lovely food everytime to pot luck depending on who s cooking and not to mention the man who bought the food to the table, when I politely asked if there was any salt and pepper said, haven t a clue mate I m a bar tender and just walked off, go there and enjoy the view but food is no longer quality so eat somewhere else until they sort out their snobby attitudes
Yes, nice location and all that, but went in for a quiet drink on my own this (late) afternoon and the service was so poor, I left before having a second glass. Plenty of indifferent staff running around and achieving little and my first interaction with a lady behind the bar was so uninspiring, I did not wait (the 10 minutes) to get served again. Here are a few tips - teach your staff to look customers in the eye when serving them, try and smile, or at least look mildy interested, try some basic manners such as please & thank you and don't act as if the customer is 'putting you out' by ordering a glass of wine. Having a beautiful pub on the Thames will only overcome so many interactions with stroppy mid-20s ladies behind the bar. You've far too much competition in the area to be complacent with staff hiring...
A fantastic place to eat for the whole family! We were blown away by the delicious vegan menu. The food was creative, hearty and exciting. The desserts were delectable and not to be missed. If we lived close by, we d eat there everyday.
Lovely pub situated along the river. Food service could have been quicker. We waited 45mins, then had to ask for someone to take our order. Atmosphere was great and really enjoyed the live music.
Lovely location but disorganised, service slow as they try to manage with virus restrictions.
Comments from owner below are fair.
Writing this review while I Am waiting for service as I have so much time waiting to be served.
Very slow service been here nearly 2 hours and that's just to have main meal.
Not very impressed as I bought my father inlaw out here on his birthday.
Will not be back as there are plenty more good pubs in this area.
Nice pub, good menu, loads of parking,Ideal if your meeting friends. Can highly recommend the veggie options. Also good for low alcohol drinkers.
Beautiful location and good food but took ages to get served and had to ask for our food/drinks several times before it came, also ordered some chips then an hour later the kitchen ended up closing so we had to get a refund as we still hadn't received them and staff weren't very apologetic or didn't seem to care much
Beautifull place next to the river. I enjoy my drink and view is amazing. Will come back soon
Thank you Corinna excellent service and allergy knowledge for our children
Only had a drink.Very busy good menu staff attentive.Told this was a gastro pub,for the prices they charge the place should be cleaner.
Sunny outdoor seating and relax view to Thames River canal
Fantastic views of the Thames. They had. A great singner on as well that added to the ambiance. Starter of Scallops was good but not sure on the sausage with it or the sauce. The lamb was well cooked but not quite pink enough. Tasty though.
I Came here for lunch with my mother and was truly impressed.
My mum had the duck liver parfait and she said it tasted perfect with the atisan breads to compliment the meal
For mains i had the fillet steak cooked blue
It was seasoned to perfection and was very tender
Also the rustic chips were beautiful.
My mum had the prawn and crab linguine with chorizo
She mentioned that its the first restaurant where the linguine has not been over cooked so was very impressed.
Thank you for the perfect lunch guys
I will definitely be returning soon
Needs a 're fit only one beer on tap and not very good at that, only stayed for one drink, would not 're visit.
I took my partner here for his birthday after it was recommended to us by a friend and unfortunately was disappointed with the overall food and Service. The service was slow, I had to go up to the bar to get a drink during our meals as More
Food is good, service isn't great - not awful, just mediocre. Run by youngsters so little interest in customer service, or so it seems.
Hadn't booked a table however when we arrived it was extremely busy. All the seated tables hadn't been served food so service would have been very delayed. This was hopefully jurt down to a last minute short staffing issue.
Food and location are amazing, service lets them down as often slow
Good outdoor space, we took the dogs on a walk and sat in the garden
Staff were really helpful and a wonderful place to be outside when the sun is shining.
A fabulous restaurant with serving great food and desserts.
Lovely little pub next to the river, we only stopped for drinks so we cannot comment on the food or the menu.
Went for a family roast Sunday lunch which was really great. Location was great right on the river and the staff were really friendly and helpful, I would defiantly recommend.
Really bad service due to staff not knowing how to operate the technology, which kept crashing. Took them 30 minutes to write down our order.
Very friendly staff. Covid rules explained very well. Food very tasty. Nice time had by all
Absolutely fantastic pub on the river. Great vibe. We were here in February but I can imagine it would be amazing to sit outside when the weather is good. The staff were helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. Slightly higher pricing than average but it's a much better than average pub.
A very busy place. Nice & helpful staff. But they clearly need more floor staff as they are overworked & are unable to give each table as much attention as required.
Great location overlooking the Thames, car park, good menu and service, appropriate COVID-19 policy in force
Foodl was amazing and the staff was fantastic.especially lotie and molly. We had the pork belly and scallops delicious 5 stars. Thank you.
Honestly shambolic and unapologetic as the setting is the experience.
Lovely location and nice restaurant and bar area. Food sub average and service slow even though the restaurant was quiet. Toilets were shabby, one urinal had an ice cream tub underneath to collect leaks! Yikes!
Lovely setting, delicious food. Great range of options. Very good social distancing. Worth booking before.
