Loved being in Pacific Beach for a change from downtown San Diego. Will say the weekend got a bit crazy.
The service wasn't very good and the restaurant was nearly empty. Had reservations and had a hard time with the manager. I won't go back.
My favorite to spend a nice evening drinking wine by the water....
Great, clean, family friendly resort. U can reach both Pacific and bay beaches since it is in between. Centered between attractions.
Stunning place. Hands down the best San Diego has to offer for sure!!!!!!
The room was average at best.. The layout was not right.. At night there was lots of noise from the rooms around us... Hard to sleep one night.. But the grounds of the hotel is the plus.. Ducks with babies all over with parrots and cockatoos..i called to get a late check out since our flight doesn't leave tell 4 they only would give us an extra half hour
Great place to visit on the weekends. Excellent happy hour.
Great Resort! Tropical feel, with meandering man-made forest creek, tropical birds , Koi , ducks ,turtles , good & fancy(too) restaurants, beach shopping blvd nearby also, ocean Beach 2 block, Mission Bay beach out back. High-rise tower as well as lower suite units. Lots of grassy & beach area. Luau in summer with islands entertainment & meal. Also paddlewheeler & water equipment rental shack/dock. Nightly cruise. Entertainer patio bar. Tell them @FreedomPleaseOr #7footApartHikes{FREE} sent you
Service standard and rooms are not 4 star. It is a nice family beach spot, but the nightly rate doesn't feel like i am getting a value.
Beautiful grounds right on the bay, ocean 1 block away.
Very nice, clean hotel. Great staff. Close to the beach. Bayfront hotel and spa. Fabulous sunrises! The parrots are a must see!!
First let s start with the good. The staff are great. For the most part extremely helpful and friendly. Kind of like if the employees at Chick Fil-A were also working here. Haha. The lobby with its waterfall and the front of the hotel facing the bay has a very tropical vibe. Almost feels like Hawaii. If you stay here the Oceana restaurant is surprisingly good. It s the type of restaurant that could easily be a part of a 5 star hotel. I highly recommend any of the sushi rolls and the swordfish, which was the best swordfish I ve ever had.
In regard to the negatives, as others have written, the rooms are extremely dated. Like circa 1960 s and 70 s dated. If you come here I would ask for one of the rooms facing the bay at least. Otherwise though the rooms are very small and don t have many of the amenities a modern hotel would have except for a flat screen tv. I didn t find the walls paper thin as others have pointed out though so noise was not an issue. If you are looking to take advantage of the wi-if it is extremely slow, almost to the point of being useless, though my wife s iPad had a better connection than mine for whatever reason. The shower, though never cold, was never hot either. Probably not a big deal in sunny San Diego, but when we were there it was in the mid-to upper 60 s and that was the high, so yeah, would have been nice to have hot water. Also, as I indicated above, the staff are great, but when we first arrived we noticed that one of the two lamps near the bed did not work so I called the front desk who told me they would send someone over to replace the bulb which they never did.
All together, this is a nice hotel that is in desperate need of a facelift. We enjoyed our time here, but I wouldn t stay at the Catamaran again unless it received that facelift. Simply too many other nicer hotels in San Diego and in all honesty the Catamaran might have been a 4 star hotel back in the day, but is really more of a nice 3 star hotel at this point.
Great location average hotel. When you enter the hotel the front entrance is very tropical. For the price, rooms are well below average. We got to the hotel on Wednesday around noon with very little rush, valet parked tried to check in. Front desk girl was very rude and kept on repeating the same answer. We don't allow check in till 4pm. We had booked a bayfront Suite. For the price $500 plus a night with taxes expected better.
Between the bay and the beach. Warm service. Clean rooms. Very good value for money.
Cool Polynesian themed resort, situated between Mission Bay and Pacific Beach. The very best of southern California.
This was an easy to get to resort that is very close to the beach. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful.
Such a nice resort. I love that it's right on the water, and so course close to so much good food and shopping.
Beautiful room facing the bay. It would have been better if we didn't have a problem with the fact we had no water coming to our room for about 45 right when my son needed to shower after his workout. Also, it's a bit disappointing that there is and additional charge to use the locker rooms after a work out. Food was good but very expensive. You are much better off eating at one of the restaurants on the beach. We appreciated that the arcade games were all free to play. The pool is beautiful and nicely appointed.
This place was great. We had an incredible suite with a view of both the bay and the ocean (request an upper-story room in the tower). The staff were friendly and accommodating. The outdoor pool was great - very kid friendly. Drinks were expensive and the restaurant was pricey - food was ok. The outside beach was great and we rented a sail boat. My favorite part was the beautiful birds and chatting with the bird trainers. The grounds are impeccably kept. There is a gym available to guests, but the nice sauna and hottub require an additional daily fee. The location was great - we walked easily to the ocean, restaurants, grocery store, and amusement park. There is also a fun boat that goes across the bay (free for guests to use, bar on board). You can also rent bikes right at the hotel. There is a great bike path that goes along the water.
The grounds of the hotel are cool, location is great. The room was so disgusting. I couldn t even sleep because it smelled so badly of mold. The carpet was dirty, the furniture was from 1980. The bathroom grout was disgusting, and the tub had stains. Our neighbor must have been trying to shower at 6:30 am and turned on the fan which sounded like a jet engine going off and woke up both of my kids. DON T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!
Far from what we've expected. Very old hotel. Not the cleanest either.
Never agree to the rooms facing "the Garden" especially on floors 2-5 in the tower. You'll get a splendid view of the parking structure with all its smog and noise.
This hotel still gets a 2nd stars because of the beach, which is public actually, and lunch at the Oceana
Definitely not coming back!
I felt humiliated because the hotel is only prepared for Americans, belittling old guests has become a routine of an uncharacteristic, apathetic team of which even the managers who should work honestly smile and lie, I had to leave the hotel very sad because I always chose the catamaran as the hotel of choice for my holidays, I still remember the reception that although I do not speak English perfectly I speak Portuguese and I understand Spanish, very different from Laureen who only speaks English. I hope that my comments will help you to look at yourselves and try to reflect under the events, the first time I was there 2011 I stole a bicycle, I paid without complaining, when I was there in 2013 the hotel security guards invaded my bathroom causing an endless embarrassment. Today I say to you in my opinion you should not host Brazilians because we are not funny but happy, if we choose your country for the holidays and because we like God bless you all.
Beautiful location right on the bay, with a spectacular view. Had brunch at the hotel restaurant and it was delicious. We didn't stay here, we just came for the food. Although the food took a while to arrive, it was pretty tasty. Waffles, eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, etc. I would certainly recommend this restaurant. There is a lovely koi pond with a waterfall in the lobby
I went there for my company's team building event. The place is nicely themed. Our event was hosted outdoor in the lawn. Access to the private beach was a excellent. Plenty of water activities are available.
Rooms are okay. No mini fridge and the bathroom is all right. Prices on room service and such are pretty outrageous.
My daughter had her wedding there. Very nice atmosphere and the guests enjoyed their stay there. Walking distance to restaurants and the beach. Our guests were able to use catamarans in the lagoon, sit on the beach enjoying drinks and tapas. We were able to enjoy fire works that went up across the lagoon by Sea World. Rooms were nice with nice views. There was a spa, restaurant and other amenities.
Great location and the rooms are fine. There is no resort fee that many other properties are charging. My only issue is there is not a Laundromat on property.
The resort is in a beautiful location right on the water with easy access to the beach. The property was massive but also in desperate need of a renovation/update. I felt like I time traveled into the 90's. There were pieces of wallpaper hanging from the wall in a hallway as of the wallpaper new it was time to go.
The restaurant on the property was nice. The prices were definitely hotel prices, meaning a little on the pricier side. The service was good and the staff were friendly.
Needs a lot of updates. I expected more for the price, but the location is great.
Eh. Wasn t the worst. But it was no where near the best.
The room was super weird. Bed was in a room all by itself in the front of the hotel room. The rest of the hotel room was like a sitting room but I never went in there.
Ok so I love a great view of the ocean and this place didn't disappoint. I was on the 11th floor and my view was phenomenal! The staff was great and so was the food. Great location so close to the ocean no need to worry about a car. It's well within walking distance. The parrots are a great addition and even took a dinner cruise that departs from the bay from behind the hotel. Did I mention the fire pits on their patio? A great experince! Very relaxing!
Nice facility with standard amenities. Service was good and was amenable to quick requests.
We ate lunch here and it was fabulous! Great views of the Bay, the hamburger and cerviche were top notch. Kristi was our bartender/server and she was the best!
My favorite place to take a staycation in San Diego. The food and drinks are always delicious and refreshing. Being on the bay is awesome because it allows for easy access to a plethora of water activities.
The New Years party was awesome! Top shelf liquor ALL night combined with a ton of dancing equals a night full of fun with friends!
Nice place, hotel 2 floors high, beach nearby, good service.
Gorgeous hotel with a view of the bay! Staff is extremely friendly and the rooms are spcious, clean, and well furnished. Would definitely visit again if I ever found myself back in the San Diego area!
It was like a tropical island, with Birds,Ducks,Flowers, palm trees, pools and restaurants.
We could see the ocean on one side and the Bsy on the other.
Great location for beach facing rooms
There is a difference in price depending on the season.
The pool was good too.
There is a lot of runners in the outskirts, which are also great for jogging.
A nice hotel that I would like to stay again.
The catamaran is an excellent choice to stay at. The resort is absolutely beautiful, with real tropical foliage all over the site, making it feel like your in Hawaii! There's ponds with ducks and koi fish, there's decorative water falls, and there's parrots in an open enclosure that interact with the guests! You can talk to the parrots, and if they're feeling chatty they'll say something back. The resort is very family friendly, it has a great pool with a large hot tub as well as a cocktail bar for the adults and an arcade next to it for the kids. The resort is also right on the bay, and there are countless activities to be done! SUP, bike, boat, skateboard, and surfboard rentals are found right in front of the resort. If you leave the bay and walk west a little bit (which would just be walking behind the catamaran and across the street) then you'll find yourself at the mission beach, which is a great beach with a lot of excellent restaurants and bars. Great location, great resort!
OMG! Perfect. Everything on our stay was perfect. Front desk was super friendly. Guest services was super nice and had every answer we needed. The room was very clean. The beach clean and nice. It is a short one block walk to the beach but after seeing it we liked the beach at the Catamaran much better. The big boat ride was very romantical for us at sunset and cannot believe for free. The garden is so beautiful to take a walk. I love the garden so much. I walked around the garden many times. We are so happy we found this place. Thank you for such a happy time you provide for us.
My experience was awesome there were birds in the hotel beutiful view across the bay. Access to rentals ,and food litterlay right next to the hotel, amazing!!!
Absolutely beautiful our room was right on the private beach. The grounds are tropical with birds and fish ponds with waterfalls. Bike and boat rentals right there at a reasonable price. Rooms are clean with great response for extra towels etc. My family had a great time. Would definitely stay again.
Stunning views, great facility, wonderful restaurants.
Beautiful place. Beach was awesome and the restaurant was so good!
Great location and atmosphere. The room was a bit dated but comfortable and had a nice patio. There's a steamboat cruise around the bay which you can ride for free when staying here.
This was the perfect place for my son's birthday. Had a great brunch, fabulous service and an amazing view.
Staff was exceptional. All staff seemed to go out of their way for everyone to offer great service. Grounds really are beautiful and the location is very nice being right on Mission Bay and a block or two walk from the Pacific. Rooms are dated but it was clean and the linens were very clean and a pretty comfortable bed. On-site water sport rentals were in good condition, fairly priced and that staff was also very friendly and helpful. If the rooms were updated more then it would probably cost much more than it does so it seemed competitively priced. l plan to go back!
Service outside on the patio is always lacking. I've been there many time for dinner and/or drinks and it isn't good service. The restaurant and the actual bar are good; just the patio is terribly under staffed.
Great hotel! A bit expensive, but fun environment and my kids loved the birds and fish and water sports!
Some areas seem a little dated, but still a nice place. Good customer service
Nice big rooms but slightly dated. The room and beach were fun with many things to do. Very kid friendly as well.
My experience so far has been outstanding. Great and attentive staff. Wonderful food.
Was there to meet friends for dinner and drinks. One round of drinks around the patio outside was $70 for nothing fancy couple of beers and mixed drink. Dinner inside was very limited menu way overpriced local bottle of wine was $55 I guess you're supposed to expect these kind of prices at a nice hotel. But dinner was average at best
A little mini vacation.... staff is very friendly and helpful. Felt at ease. Missuon bay right in back of resort and lists of boating and other water activities.
Imagine Hawaii....but not so far, or expensive! This resort is a true hidden paradise in the middle of San Diego! I loved walking right out of my room onto Mission Bay and watching the SeaWorld fireworks from my room! The Bahia Belle is a must do, it is there cruise around Mission Bay with live music and dancing...too much fun!! Also, make sure you visit their spa, I can not say enough good things about my massage and the facilities! LOVE LVOE LOVE!!! Can't wait to come back :)
We stayed in one of the Tower rooms. Great views on either side. All restaurants and pool were closed because of COVID. Rooms could use some updating but we
re clean. Beautiful plantings, tropical atmosphere.
The location is great! We went to see the location for a possible wedding venue but since the catering host was not available they were only minimally helpful.
