In addition to world class pictures and other pieces of art, the architecture of the buildings and grounds are amazing. Add to that spectacular views of the coast and a sprawling LA county and it's a must see on your visit to area.

A fantastic place to spend the day. The architecture is fascinating, the views magnificent; of course, the museum itself is fun too, and free. If you can make it on a day of a free summer concert, that's an added bonus.

This is my happy place. The gardens change with every season. Special events like Enchanted are amazing. Membership is a great way to go, with reciprocal privileges for many gardens out of the area and discounts at Descanso.

Photographic exhibits change often and are wonderful, but increasingly patronize the self-annointed disenfranchised. Permanent collection is well displayed and diverse, mostly European, not that that's bad. Architecture of the facility works better and better each time I go. I'm sorry they had to fence off the water feature in the plaza, but I get safety first. Always something to see.

A rich American's idea of art.

The gallery is situated at a spectacular location with impressive facilities, but really it's a poor imitation of what it purports to be. The collection is overweight with mediocre 18C paintings, and the contemporary exhibit was pretty weak the day I visited.

Come only to enjoy the gardens!

Do not miss this great museum of art if you have a chance to visit LA. Free admission (I think after 3 pm) Only you need to pay for parking! But it is usually closed at 5 pm. But you can visit and stay late every Sat if I remember correctly. Anyway you should get there and enjoy many masterpieces

At a mere $15 per carload of people for parking, sprawling gardens with relaxing water features, panoramic views of L.A. and Santa Monica and an amazing collection of artwork, there are few better values for your time or money. Always a treat! Also visit the Getty Villa!

Nice place. Went there at a trip organized by the UCI international center. I didn't know much about art/ history of Christianity or other relevant things. So it got boring after sometime. But the place is nice for hanging out for a couple of hours. Not more than that for people like me.

Amazing facility!!! Definitely worth a visit!! Easy parking on-site, take the tram up the enterence. The views up top are breathtaking.

The architecture is amazing, facility is super clean! Staff is friendly. Plan out at least 3-4 hours to check everything out.

This place was amazing, while we were there they had a special display of Latin American (Inca/Mayan) treasures. The artifacts date back several hundred years, in fact, older than I would have thought.

In addition to the special exhibit there are sections of the museum that house painted artwork, carvings, historical furniture, think Louis V, French, sculpture and more.

While we were not there at the right time of the year to view the gardens at their best I imagine they would be beautiful. We also saw how close the fires got to the museum, it was across the street/highway on the 405. You could see the charred hills and the Getty center with all of its greenery near and around, would have been a disaster if it has crossed the street.

The museum is free, the parking is about $20 but you can get a lot of folks into a car or better yet UBER there and then you won't have to worry about the parking. They have a train shuttle that takes you up to the center.

This place is one of the best museums in LA. If you like arts and histories, you'll be happy to be here for hours and hours. It's better to visit this place around 10am or probably earlier since it will get crowded and long line entering parking garage. Parking fee is $15 ($10 after 3pm) but no cover to enter the museum. You need to ride a tram from parking garage to the main area (you can walk if you like) and don't forget to ask for a map at information booth inside museum entrance hall. So many interesting things in this place from paintings, sculptures and breathtaking views from outside the building. Bring powerbank or extra charger cos you will take so many pictures. Trust me it's worth it to come here :)

I am not really into museums, but I absolutely freaking love that place so much!!!! First of all, it's completely FREE, believe it or not. Second, the coolness starts when you have to take a cute lil tram up the hills (also free) to make it to the museum. Third, the external area is so hung and absolutely gorgeous that it's definitely gonna get you amused for hours - and you'll end up forgetting about all those Renaissance paintings you really wanted to see inside; in fact you'll even end up forgetting that you're in an actual museum instead of a super modern castle, or an University campus (cause it can really look like both) -, and you'll most definitely have to come back another day. Btw, in my opinion, everyone should go at least 3 times - and I swear it's not enough to see it all!

Always a pleasure to visit the Getty. Make it a full day if you can. Pack a picnic because I basically see sandwiches at their food court area. there's an outside Cafe type vender for coffee and blended drinks. Overall, did not come for the food. Enjoy a day of art, beautiful architectures, garden, view of LA, etc. Yes, parking is $15, amazing. Pray for the machine and computer system to go down and it's completely free. We didn't have to pay for parking because their system was down.

Great arts collection and great views of the city. As a person with not too much interest or knowledge of art, this was actually really interesting. I was planning on staying for about 2 hrs, but it quickly became 4-5 hrs!

The Getty is beyond beautiful. God help them with the fire around it. We were just there 2-3 weeks ago. You must go here, and donate whatever you can, its a great place to take our kids too

Incredible, amazing. The building is almost as beautiful as the art it contains. And the view is almost as beautiful as the building. Be sure to catch it at sunset.

Also, can't say enough about the staff. I left an item behind at the gift shop at closing time. They let me ride the tram back to the building, but the gift shop was closed. The guars station said they would find the item and mail it to me at their expense, then offered me a ride back down to my car. Before they left, someone else went in the shop, found my item and hand delivered it to me. What wonderful, personal service! Thank you so much!

One of my absolute favourite buildings!! The flow from indoor to outdoor and vice versa is absolitely seamless. Well maintained museum. There is no entry fee here but paid parking. The tours are great.

Wonderful museum, and it s free! So much to see here. Come early to avoid lines for the tram, and make sure you have enough time to see the beautiful garden at the back. Wonderful views of LA from the open top areas. It s also nice to just take a break with a coffee on one of the terraces and enjoy the views.

One of the best free things to do in Southern California, seriously you only pay to park, that's it. Has some of the worlds greatest works of art, and the architecture and landscapes and works of art in themselves.

$15/car to park, but the museum is free to enter. One of the best in the country; it's a must visit. Get there early. The line of cars to get in can be a pain in the keester otherwise. Bring your walking shoes.

I read reviews before we visited that the collection is not as great as other international museums. I have been to some of those, so my expectation levels were low.
What a great collection. Yes, it is a smaller collection, but well curated. The architecture and views phenomenal.
Same goes for the Getty Villa.

These are the views from the 3rd story of the building. IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!! Didnt post the pictures of the inside because, trust me, you don't want me to ruin the surprise. The Getty is an amazing museum to visit<3

The Getty is undoubtedly one of the most underrated iconic symbols of LA. This is a must see for all tourists and locals a like. The museum is entirely free (you'll pay around $15 for parking), and the food a little more expensive than what you'd normally pay eating out. Nevertheless, FREE museum entry to see relics and amazing works of art. Amazing!

This monumental world class museum always nourishes my Soul - The superb complex is its own monument: an engaging tribe of sleek pavilions blending seamlessly with nature, gorgeous gardens, spectacular views...all leading to the seductive art that feeds, sooths, moves and inspires. The fact that it is free is a stunning gift.

This place is absolutely amazing! If you like art, this place is a must. You only pay for the parking since there is no entrance fee. There are so many artwork here. You should spend at least 5-6 hours here. The architecture here is also very beautiful and there are some stories behind it. You should check out some short-tour programs. They will explain more about the architect and artwork.

The Getty is a beautiful destination! The views are amazing, the architecture is so unique, and you can enjoy the gardens any time of year. And don't forget the art. The museum is always free, just have to pay $15 for parking. Right now hey have the PST LA:LA exhibit which the pictures are from. It is a must for anyone in LA.

Beautiful grounds and lots to explore here. Free entry, but $20 for parking, so a really cheap days entertainment. The team takes you from the carpark to the museum and you'll get some fantastic views of the city and hills from there. Once you arrive there's sculptures outside to see and the architecture to admire. Get an iPod from reception and it will give you information about each exhibit. Eat before you go as the cafe is overpriced and ordinary.

What isn t great about the Getty? (The way he made his money?) Seems like every time I go the gardens are in full bloom. We go at least 2 3 times a year. Very lucky to have such a beautiful and informative museum in LA.

Wonderful place to visit. Free admission (wow!). Audio tour recommended (also free). The volunteers who help you with the audio tour setup are so dedicated and friendly. Loved looking at the European paintings, Rococo furniture and statues from various periods. Will definitely come again next time I am in LA.
