Loved it great art, very interesting. Great for taking pictures.
Loved it great art, very interesting. Great for taking pictures.
Great place to spend several hours exploring the gardens, viewing the city, and enjoying art and history
Lots of fantastic art from throughout history in all its varied media. The downside is the size. Lots of walking on hard surfaces, often stone, with relatively little seating. It is not uncommon for the one seating area in a cluster of 3-4 galleries to be filled. The views from the museum are amazing and one can see the Pacific Ocean on a clear day. Admission is "free" but parking is $15 so the term free is really a misrepresentation. You can take mass transit to reach the museum but unless you live fairly close, the inefficiency of Los Angeles region transit makes it untenable as an option. In my case, I could drive there in 45 minutes but mass transit was a 6+ hour round trip. Not realistic at all so most people will be forced to pay $15 for a "free" museum.
A great place to spend the day with family and friends. I suggest coming either before 10 or after 3 because once their parking lot fills up they dont let anybody else in. The first time i went around 1pm and they told us to come back in an hour or two. You can also call to see what the parking situation is. Anyways, the gardens are amazing and so are all the different art collections.
Wonderful building with a very nice view. The architecture and place is amazing for photography ... and all for free!
But, unfortunately, for the French guy I am, the exhibitions are really poor ...
This place is amazing. It takes a few visits to go through the entire place.
This is absolutely the best deal in LA. Fantastic museum, awesome views and everything is free. (Except food and parking) I suggest that you take the bus here and avoid the $20 parking fee. It's also a good place to bring a picnic lunch. Consider bringing a light jacket. It can be chilly up here.
The Getty needs no explanation if you are interested in art. Travel to is that I never had a problem getting an Uber from the Getty for the short trip to the nearby hotels. The distance is close from The Angeleno Hotel to the Getty on the map but visitors cannot walk up the hill and must make a 40 minute or longer walk along busy roads
Went here with my 4 year old grandson. We had a great day. I loved all the art and he loved rolling on the lawn slopes!
Great place to discover art and nature as well as the city from above...
Had a great time so much to see and explore. Definitely, got make multiple day trips to see everything.
Stunning museum with a one of a kind experience. Since it's built into the side of a mountain you must take a light rail to the museum. We spent the entire day here and only saw 1/3 of the exhibits. Great place to bring the family or a date. The grounds are immaculate and the trees and flowers are fabulous. The restaurant serves a variety of food relatively inexpensive ($40 for three meals, drinks, and dessert). The views are great and the artwork is amazing.
This is a wonderful place to visit in Los Angeles, whether you live or visit here, it is a must to visit the Getty.
Absolutely love this place. Better then Disneyland.
Nice place to see view and walk around. Garden is also good
Its a big trip to get to Getty. But it was well worth the trip. Traffic was fairly mild (except for the last 5 miles). Kind of confusing on finding a plug in location for my PU Hybrid. Once I got past that things resolved itself. I did have to find the parking kiosk to get my school discount but that was just a few feet from the boarding platform for the Tram.
We were supposed to connect with our school mates. Kind of had a bit of difficulty but every once in a while we would run into some of them.
The Getty is (what can I say) The Getty. Very enjoyable. Much stuff in my current field of interest (ceramics, sculpture). This review probably is not appropriate for The Getty. Others will have better reviews of the actual center.
Carol Schneider.
BTW: Took my first Selfie at the exhibit.
Really good view, architecture and grounds the art isn't as famous as some other museums but still interesting none the less.
Beautiful architecture, amazing garden and even better art!
Lots to see if you like art. I good way to spend a few hours
I love the Getty Center but parking is getting too expensive and the food isn't as good as I remember it being
The collection is amazing though. If you ever get the chance to visit please do.
Full marks for how they maintain and operate this place. And all that without any fee! If you are visiting LA this should be next after Universal studios. Skip Griffith observatory and go here, if possible.
If you are an art enthusiast/admirer reserve a full day. You won't be disappointed.
We've been here many times. I love that there is a grass area. It's a great place for kids to roll and play around. And during summer there are garden concert series where families can sit together and enjoy some music. It's a place we could spend whole afternoon there. highly recommend, especially if you are looking for places to bring kids to.
The museum was expansive but in a beautiful space in nature!
Free museum usually means low budget, not the Getty! Excellent exhibits and stunning grounds.
Fantastic place. The building is incredible. The view over Los Angeles is very nice. I particularly appreciated the exhibition on Egyptian, Roman, and Greek art.
Wonderful architecture and location. The art collection feels a little out of place for Europeans..
Loved every minute on the property. Parking is easy. Tickets are simply to acquire. One can spent or rather spend the entire day exploring the museums and the grounds. Super friendly employees.
Too cool. $10 parking in the evenings, $15 regular. Free admission. Cafe, snacks, park area. Beautiful garden with great views on both sides. Lots of people lounging in the grass. Slick tram ride. Great date spot
Great place to visit by, even if you are not an expert in arts. Lots of things to see and it will easily take a day to see all the exhibits completely. There is a tram which comes from the road level to the getty center. The parking is at the ground level itself. Uber comes right in to where the tram starts, which is convenient. One can also walk and it will take 20 minutes to the center. The getty website provides the best information for parking and directions. There is no entry fee and it is a treasure to go and check out v while in LA.
Great panorama views, but poor art collection (from European point of view). Pretty distant from the center, so not worth it if you go there by public transport
Very glad to have visited, even with kids it was pleasant. It was a pleasant experience starting with parking, the tram, and the museum itself was pretty with things to see and do both indoors and outdoors. We have already discussed a return visit to more fully explore the exhibits.
Outstanding Museum. Beautiful Views. Dont miss it.
Saw The Book of Beasts exhibit. It was fantastic! Love this museum. Such a great venue. Beautiful gardens.
Decent collection with incredibly poor road access.
The gardens!!! Loved them, so beautiful and peaceful. Black petunias! The art displays are wonderful too. So excited to see VanGogh, Renoir, Monet and several Rembrandt's!!!! I didn't even get to see everything before it closed and they had to chase me out! And the spectacular views of the city! Wow, I hope you get a clear day! FYI-parking is $20. Museum is free. Try to get there to see the Buddhist cave replicas by Sept 4th(?), they won't be available to view anywhere else.
Nice. There are lots of arts, statues and paintings
A wonderful hidden gem. Perfect for a day of discovering art and catching stunning city views of Los Angeles. Make time to stop by their stunning gardens, you won't regret it.
Excellent museum, very spread out in separate buildings. Great views of L. A.. Come early, it gets very crowded. Purchased food here is pricey, so you might want to consider a picnic lunch. The tram up the mountain from the parking lot to the museum is fun too. What I loved the most here is that there is a collection of Impressionist paintings that I've never seen before by well known Impressionists.
Lovely place to relax and walk around. The only down fall is the modern art, but hey we can't all have the same taste. The lay out is slightly confusing so make sure to grab a map or pay close attention to signs. We got turned around a few times.
Fantastic collections and stunning architecture and views. Come early and plan 3 or 4 hours. There's food and coffee as well. You won't see the whole thing in a day. It's big.
Great place to get away for am afternoon and check out the most recent exhibits. I personally went for the amazing views of LA from downtown to the beach. Bring a camera.
A good place for adults and kids. Wear comfortable shoes and prepare to wander and wonder.
The Getty Center is a great museum with lots of great stuff to see. You can take the periodic tours the facility offers or just self explore the place.
There are four main halls that feature paintings and sculptures across several floors each, plus a hall that features rotating exhibits. There are also a couple other buildings I think for preservation sciences and a theater. The architecture of the facility alone is worth a view.
There's also a beautiful garden and supposedly very good food in the cafe although we did not try the cafe and the garden was closed due to poor weather during our visit.
Admission is free but as with everything in LA you'll pay your pound of flesh in parking fees ($20).
Never been to LA and the first thing I got to see was The Getty. They were just so beautiful and family friendly, they were just as beautiful inside as outside. Favorite part was the garden. Stole my heart for sure.
Absolutely gorgeous. This place doesn't feel real. It's so beautiful.
It's free for all, has a shuttle to get you there, two cafes and some trolleys for snacks, lovely staff, and it's so well maintained.
Adam and I didn't do the audio tour and we quickly went through the exhibits. We found the real glory of this place to be the scenic views.
It's amazing how much of LA you are able to see, the gardens are also breathtaking (my favourite is the cactus garden but the sculpture garden is where we got the best view for the sunset).
A perfect day of walking and admiring topped off with a gorgeous sunset and a cup of hot chocolate.
Definitely something to do on a beautiful day, or a rainy day if you like fancy art paintings and audio tours.
Impressive collections of paintings, sculptures and decorative arts. The garden is gorgeous and the views on LA are stunning.
Number one Must Go place whether you live in LA or visiting for any reason.
Somewhere locals could visit quite often without getting bored and visitors would make a note to visit again.
beautiful setting. Wonderful pieces. OK food service court
Gorgeous architecture
Gorgeous art
Gorgeous landscaping
Museum is free...parking 20$...take the bus. Beautiful grounds and building layout. Bring your own water and snacks.
Need a full day to explore. Definitely worth a visit if you have interest in art
Security is too serious looking .....could look more friendlier with customer's
Magic place full of art and harmony, every detail in the building, gardens etc are amazing. One the best museums I never see. If you visit LA you can t miss to go there.
Beautiful and very informative museum. The best part is that mostly it's free of cost.
It's one of my favorite places to go and it's a must see if you're visiting L.A.
Plan to spend a full day or two here. You will quickly get museum leg - there is so much to see and you will be on your feet for a long time, particularly if you are part of a guided tour (so wear comfortable walking shoes). Some items are marked "No Photographs" but it is easy to miss that signage as it is in very small letters in the bottom right of artwork/artifact signage. Don't worry, docents will make sure you follow the rules. Great artwork highlighting different periods and styles. The grounds and buildings are.beautiful as well.
The traffic is so bad and there s no sign to tell you the parking is full. I ended up waiting for more than one hour and then be told to come back in an hour since the parking is full. The person working there doesn t care about the people. The traffic issue needs to be addressed.
Plan on being there for a few hours or making multiple visits if you really appreciate art. Fantastic!
Wonderful museum with great views of Bel Air, UCLA, and even downtown LA. I love how there are so many museum tours as well. I went on the Architecture tour, the Gardens tour, and the Main collections tour and learned a lot about the building and design of the Getty as well as the artwork. And it's all free admission, though you do have to pay for parking (and of course, any food or gift purchases).
Beautiful museum that is free. Yes, free. Lots of art, antiques and more. We we re amazed. Staff is friendly and security is not overwhelming. If you do have children, do expect to be followed by security, even if your child is well behaved. If your child is not interested in art this may not be the best entertainment for them. The views are spectacular so be sure to bring a nice camera. The trams can get pretty full so expect a wait. Food at the cafe is good but very high priced for the quality.
Liked everything here: started from the train, the views, the architectures, the arts, the people, the plants, ......
I discover new things every time I come here. Not merely because of some fabulous new exhibit, but also in walking through the gardens with their seasonal ebb and flow of color and fragrance.
Beautiful museum to visit. Free entry to the museum but will have to pay for parking. It is very grand and has amazing art and views of the city.
L-O-V-E this place! Beautiful views of LA as well as the gorgeous architecture of the museum itself. There is also,of course, amazing artwork and exhibits. We went around sunset on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised that it is open later on Saturdays. And if you go later, there are discounts on parking, which is the only fee to pay. It is a fun spot to wander and enjoy art, meet up with friends/family, or cozy up to a hot date.
Having traveled around the world i love Getty Collection for the price and voriaty. You will see alot of very nice paintings and sculptures. This place is also grear for a family visit.
Fabulous location in the hills, amazing view of the pacific. There are numerous courtyards, parks, shaded areas among trees. The exhibit buildings are spread out amongst these serene spots of peace.
Great art, beautiful building, lovely outdoor space, and affordable cafeteria food. They have wonderful summer concerts that are not to be missed. Their photographic exhibitions are one of the highlights for me when visiting.
It s the little things, like having an abundance of umbrellas available on a rainy day...
We absolutely loved our time here! From the moment you step onto the tram everything in life becomes beautiful. The architecture is as beautiful as the art within and I highly recommend taking the architecture tour which is stunning and fascinating. I wish there was a certain portion of the museum that I could recommend but honestly I loved every room. If you are able to, stay until sunset because the view is amazing!!!
Very crowded but reasonable for the price. Beautiful garden
Loved this place!! Definitely worth the drive. Amazing view over the city with an even more impressive collection. Not to mention the amazing architecture and the design. What a marvel!
