Amazing service, my wife and I were trying to decide between tents and they let us set them up in the store. Very impressed

The staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful, even though I am painfully indecisive and picky with my gear. These people know their products very well and aren't shy to show you great deals on the discount rack if it's a good fit for what you're looking for.

Always a fantastic experience in this store. The most helpful staff, and semi comparable prices on most of the items.
Honestly though this review is for all the hardworking bike crew in the back. They've never been met with a problem they couldn't solve with a smile on their face. It's nice to have a place to go where you don't feel judged. Thanks OGE!

What a hypocritical store. Saratoga county NY was on do not enter the store list. Saratoga county has way less COVID cases per capita compared to the county in which this store is located in Burlington VT. Bad business model! Have your facts together before refusing customers!!!!!

This is an overrated institution.The displays are crowded and the entire store is hard to navigate. Selection is spotty and disorganized. They seem understaffed. And, after two recent visits, I still haven't seen where I would check out if I wanted to buy something.

I came back to visit my parents and decided to get a demo from OGE for the second year in a row. Last year they gave me a Pivot Switchblade, but the dropper wouldn't stay up. I had to switch out the bike and chalked it up to a fluke. This year I reserved a Yeti 4.5 ahead of time and rode the first couple rides. I noticed the rear end had no traction so after a ride I looked at the tire and it was on backwards. So I again returned the bike, which made it so I had to take time away from biking on my vacation. They switched the bike out for another one, and I thought that was the end of it. However, upon returning the bike they said they wanted $50 from my damage deposit because it had a few scratches. I have no problem with that if I damaged the bike, expect I was riding with my 62 year old dad and didn't fall a single time. Additionally, the bike was only transported using a Oneup rack and I take care to never lean the bike against the frame. When I was switching the bike, I noticed that no one looked over the frame for damage. So I made it a point to show them some knicks near the top tube, but the employee paid me no mind. I really wanted to like OGE but I will never shop or demo a bike from them again. Their bikes are always given to you dirty, 50% of the ones I've demoed had something wrong, and they try to charge you for the previous riders mistakes. Very unimpressed overall and they have never offered to give me a in-store credit or a discount based on their bikes malfunctioning.

Great selection and variety. One complaint though. The clothing racks where so jam packed. To get anything off to look at it was a pain and getting it back in was even worse.

My family loves OGE! We shop there for clothes, shoes, climbing gear, and skis. The consignment section is top notch, especially when I need outdoor gear for my kids.

The staff were helpful and friendly. There was a huge selection of outdoor gear, bikes, quality athletic shoes, sandals and hiking boots and hiking shoes. The discount walls were pretty pricey but paying for quality is the name of the game there. I got a facemask that was labeled for 24 dollars and was surprised when I only was charged 17 dollars and change. Great experience and I will definitely be back in the future.

After a ride my mountain bike was making a few awful noises that I knew weren't good and I needed to get fixed ASAP. I had a day of downhill coming up in a few days and on my way over to OGE I was praying that they'd be able to take a look, figure out the issue and have me back on the trails lickity split. Sure enough Austin had replaced my brake pads and rotor and through a few (perhaps too many for a non appointment visit) test rides down Cherry Street he was able to identify and resolve a weird little squeak that was present for too many rides. Austin was thorough throughout my visit, is a top not guy and has great chat! Rick is also great - I now have a better understanding about my shock system, getting full use out of it, and when to increase or decrease the squish factor. OGE - all the time, every time.

Good selection to get started on any outdoor hobby. Biking department is new! There are freqently some gems in the consignment basement. Staff always do their best to get you the most gear for your money! I'm a regular.

Not thrilled with my experience 2 days after Christmas in trying to exchange a pair of Darn Tough socks for the right size! I thought it would be easier to drive to Burlington from Richmond to your store where my family has accounts & most likely purchased on Chistmas eve than to contact people out of town. However, I was sorely disappointed.
A customer service clerk stated that they did not carry that style & it did not have your sticker! Really ?!!
He never attempted to ask an MOD or
co worker to find out how to handle this. I was hoping to purchase a jacket & boots but quickly changed my mind. My years in customer service & retail sales has taught me that the customer is king! However, that was not my experience at OGE yesterday!
I goggled Darn Tough socks & your store is the only one that states it is a return store.. hummm all I wanted was an exchange for the correct size!

A Burlington gem... they have it all. Most of the staff is over educated to be selling retail clothing, but passionate about being outdoors. Very helpful. Good value.

Can find some great deals downstairs (consignment) but if you shop upstairs ($$$$ retail) expect to pay the highest possible price for anything you find.

The store is ok, everything seems like it is on sale and yet still too close to MSRP.

However I did buy something walked out the store and got chased down the street my bag grabbed from me and taken back to the store because they forgot to deactivate a tag. Completely their fault yet I was treated like a criminal (they admit there is a lot of theft) and didn't get an apology.

I returned the item: lost sale and lost customer.

Edit: I'm giving one more star to 3 because the store admits they screwed up and want to make it right. I'm not headed back to VT for a while but I appreciate the attempt.

The staff were SO helpful and they knew what they were talking about. I found that the man that was helping my friend and I find climbing shoes, understood what we were asking for, and kept giving us appropriate options after listening to us. They have more options than most locations and they even have a small climbing wall so that you can try your shoes. This was a great experience!

I always recommend OGE to friends and family visiting from outside the BTV area. What a difference it makes when an outdoors outfitter is independently run and operated. Downtown Burlington has so many great options for gear, but this certainly serves as a hub for knowledge, expertise, and excellent selection. Don't forget to check out the consignment area downstairs!

What a great outdoor gear shop! Used items downstairs, new things upstairs. So many options of everything at good prices.

Always have a lovely experience here. Like a kid in a candy store. They always have the best selection, and it's always fun to poke around the very large consignment area. The staff is always easy-going, knowledgeable, not pushy, and friendly.
I just placed an order, got some great deals, and it was shipped wicked fast, with no unnecessary/excess packaging, and everything was exactly what I ordered and in great shape. Receipt was also reasonably sized (I.e. no wasted paper) and came with a coupon for my next purchase.

I ordered a Bern helmet from them. The information re sizing was wrong on their Web Site for this particular piece. Hence it doesn't fit. They are not willing to make up for it and want me to pay return shipping although it clearly was not my fault.
Very disappointing. Never again.

Terrible customer service. One started with, "can you give me some room?" the other "can you cover your nose?" This was not a pleasant experience. I did not appreciate the customer service. I understand the life we're living. But if someone has questions and expecting to pay money in your store then I would expect gratitude, appreciation and attention. After all that is the business you are in.

Great local store with almost anything you'd need for any athletic event. Very knowledgeable staff and fully stocked shelves. Consignment of used stuff has some cheap alternatives too.

Just called to ask some general questions and was met with nothing but a rude, condescending and very short customer service representative. A male who I'm sure is all of 18 years old got on the phone and acted bothered from the start. You guys should really employ people who enjoy the outdoors and enjoy talking about the outdoors. Was plannig on making a trip from NY to purchase some items but now will just order online or go somewhere else. Totally horrible experience without even walking through the door! Completely stunned and awed at the incompetence and rudeness!

Who couldn't love a full service gear shop right in the heart of beautiful downtown Burlington, VT? If you are into a little light hiking they have you covered head to toe. Perhaps you're looking for something more adventurous? The can meet all of your needs. New gear is sold at street level, consignment sales of used stuff is in the basement.

Absolutely amazing spot for anything outdoor-related. Great vibes, staff is very available to help, and knowledgeable on products and local adventure spots. Used gear section is huge too, with lots of great deals. Highly recommend. This is what makes Burlington what it is <3

Just bought a Reid Hercules fat bike from OGE .. great transaction! When I called to clarify what size they had in stock, they offered to put the one in my size on hold for a day so I could drive down to see it. When I arrived, it was waiting for me - and they let me test drive it. The staff was helpful and knowledgeable and fun. No hassle, no pressure, no up sell, just lots of straightforward answers and insights. Their sale price was the lowest I'd seen for this bike online, so that was a bonus that sealed the deal. It was a pleasure to do business with OGE. They have a surprising variety of bikes - don't overlook Outdoor Gear Exchange.

Huge selection and great deals! I stop by this place every time I'm in Burlington to see what is on sale. They have a wonderful stock of outdoor clothes, backpacks and backpacking gear, kayaks, tents, etc. Definitely worth a trip!

Didn't help much, not very friendly (perhaps racism?..)

I ordered a pair of Keen's through Amazon from them. The "3 rd party only" ; Prime not available for this product. Ordered on Saturday (6/29) at 11:45. Estimated delivery July 5th to 10th. I got my Keen's today (7/1) at 2:15. 2 DAYS! They sent it by priority mail and I am.THRILLED!!! Thanks Outdoor Gear! You have my business now without that other 3rd party seller that starts with an A and is also a river in South America.

My girlfriend and I were in today looking at snowshoes. Rick was incredibly helpful and knowledgable!

I once placed an order through this site and the representative I spoke with went above and beyond to make sure I was ordering the correct item. I was VERY impressed by their customer service. When I think a company has excellent customer service (especially a mom + pop shop) I always continue to order from them to support their company.

However, today I called to place an order and they failed to match their "price match guarantee". There is no current language in their policy stating they will not match a price from a website where you have to create a log-in (even if the log-in creates a "membership" which would be free). Apparently it is their policy, but for whatever reason their website does not have this statement listed and cuts the sentence off at "We" (see attached image of how it read when I contacted them -- end of the first paragraph). This, of course, is not the customer's problem, but an error on Outdoor Gear Exchange's side. Said bluntly, it is false advertising.

The customer service this time disappointed me as they were not willing to honour their policy as it was written at the time I contacted them (it has since been updated listing the specific site I was trying to price match). A company which truly has excellent customer service (as I previously experienced) would honour their policy and this company wouldn't budge.

I have now written this company off as one from which I will shop. I purchase a lot of gear, so they have lost at least one customer -- which for a mom + pop shop should matter to a small degree. Since I'm a climber, which is a very communal sport, I will also spread the word in my climbing community to not purchase from a company who does not honour their policies as written and therefore falsely advertises.

I wish I could say something better about them other than the first time I ordered from them the representative was amazing. Upon second purchase, the customer service was abysmal. I like to support ethical companies and in my opinion Outdoor Gear Exchange does not practice ethical business policies.

Great place to find good deals on winter clothing. I just found winter jackets, boots, and hats for my wife, kids and me at an excellent price. Back packs too. You may have to dig around a bit to find what you want in the second-hand area but it's well worth it.

I was recently (11/9/13) at OGE to shop for cross-country ski gear.

The first thing I noticed downstairs was the lack of sales help. There were lots of customers, but no one was near the skis to say "hi, may I help you?" I walked around the downstairs looking for 5 minutes and finally found a girl who could help, but in order to help me, she had to leave her post at the Consignment Area. That was nice of her.

With all due respect to her efforts, this employee did not know much about "how to sell equipment to an interested customer (who wants to shop locally) and who has money to spend." She asked the help of several other young employees and they really didn't impress me with their ability to size my skis or my poles. They didn't seem interested in helping me, a customer. It was a disappointing experience. The tech guy somewhat redeemed my experience by installing my bindings while I waited.

I am an active 55-year-old woman with silvery hair. I was dressed well and wanted to support this local store. I traveled 35 minutes to shop there. I felt surrounded by hipsters who didn't really know the merchandise and neither did they know how to cater to a customer interested in buying a ski package. There was so little actual conversation or sharing of information. I like the idea of this store, but they could work on their people skills for customers over 30. We (those of us over 30) are a large population, many of us with the incomes to afford the outdoor toys at OGE.

Exceptionally helpful and knowledgable staff. Even though it was crowded when I went, i had no trouble getting help. Most of the staff do the activities they are selling the equipment for and answer questions readily.

Review is still here and I still shop without a mask. And the one time I wore one was to come to your store (just for fun, wouldn't spend a cent there) after I came from Boston the day before. You ask questions, I lie!! Enjoy!

Great selection of gear and clothing. A tough time actually finding things as the store seems a little disorganized and cluttered. Sometimes overwhelming.

Awesome!! So helpful. Good selection, good sales, and some original prices better than others! Doug was very helpful finding everything I needed and having to go in the back multiple times for just the right helmet. Jacob did a great job picking just the ski boots I needed and the man who did the boot-ski adjustment was great (didn't catch his name though). Also was able to get 10% off the total since I bought everything for this season there! Good prices and lots of consignment clothing/jackets, etc too. This is definitely a place to shop for skiing equipment and I know I'll be back for more when the time comes. Thanks so much!!

Quality products with experienced customer service is what you can count on in this store. Needed to regear myself for some outdoor photography and they provided my "now-favorite" light but warm gloves and a comfortable pair of shoes perfect for long walks.

Unequivocally the best place for outdoor gear and great deals on consignment. OGE is the gold standard for skiing, camping, climbing, and consignment gear. Their staff are fantastic and knowledgeable, their website is great.

The best place on earth. If you go there you will spend hours there. The deals are intense. New and consinement. A dangerous place for nordic skiers. A large black hole that your money will all fall into.

Pretty cool outdoor gear store. I like going in an looking at everything. The downstairs is usually "seconds", samples, and used items. you can also rent outdoor gear here for a day at a time which is great...skis, snowshoes, bikes, etc.
