Always a cozy time with friendly staff. They convinced us to play trivia night and we tanked, but it was enjoyable to try! (2/10 answers, oops) -- Miss some of the old menu items from years passed, and could use some new features, but still an enjoyable place

I have been to The Old Toad twice in the last year while visiting Rochester. Both times, the servers were very nice, the food was delicious and the experience was very pleasant overall. I will be back.

A wonderful authentic English pub with some authentic (and excellent) English food as well. I got the Scotch Eggs and Curry Turkey wrap which was delicious, plus enjoyed some excellent English beer. They also have Cask beers available to try here as well. Very friendly bartenders and staff!

I've been going to the Old Toad for over two decades. It's a faithful (as far as I can tell) recreation of an authentic British pub. As such, they've got a wide selection of beers, both British and otherwise, as well as cask-conditioned ales which are hard to find around Rochester. Great food too; check out their excellent fish fry on Friday!

I was knocked off my feet when i sunk my teeth into their version off a cornbeef sandwhich. I actually like it better then a Reuben..which is insane!! If you are looking for a good night out and a cool atmosphere. Definitely go to the Old Toad!! Best restaraunt ive eaten at in Rochester.

Fantastic place to get a beer. Jack was a pleasure to be served by, and the atmosphere is unmatched anywhere else in Rochester. Try the shepherds pie!! I will definitely be returning ASAP.

I don't just hand out 5 star reviews but this place earned it. The GM, Kevin, was amazing. His knowledge of beer was impressive. He made us his friends and as a result we'll be returning. The food ... oh the food! We started the party with some scotch eggs. This was my first time having scotch eggs and I promise it won't be my last. A hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage is my kind of party. We washed the scotch eggs down with some bangers and mash. I've had bangers and mash before but this was on a different level. This place was fantastic and shame on me for waiting so long to check it out.

Best fish fry in Rochester! I normally don't eat fried foods, and I'm not crazy about french fries, but in The Old Toad's case I make an exception because it's soooo good! ,Large food & drink selection (especially beer), generous portions and very friendly staff.

Easily one of my favorite bars in Rochester. A warmly-lit pub decorated with British signage, this spot offers an extensive selection of beer. The bar usually is not playing music, allowing for easier conversation.

Finally back again after being out of town since college. Nothing has changed and that's great. Good atmosphere, people, and drinks. This is the place to go to get away from all the drunks and annoying people. Nice.

Nothing fancy about it, just a good ol pub atmosphere with a very friendly English staff. Decent beer selection, but its the cask beer offerings that really keep me coming back. Never disappointed by the cask selection.

Excellent food at a good price. The fish n chips are delicious and the waitress convinced me to get the scotch egg which I've never tried and it was amazing! Excellent liquor selection.

A fairly authentic English pub. The have cask ales, scotch eggs and drunken cheddar scoops are all worth stopping in for. It s a large space with room to dine or just stop for a drink. The lot in back is available for $5. If you park, will get a free drink ticket for inside too.

Best pub in New York State hands down. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and tremendous food.

Generally a good experience here until it gets too busy. The bar is relatively small, so you could spend a long time waiting to get a drink. But if it's not busy, it's an awesome place to hang out and drink beer!

This place is amazing. I went with a bunch a friends during a nasty recent snow storm and thankfully they were open! We had an amazing server. I forgot her name but she was great. The food is decent and I would like to try more of their food. We did an alcohol vapor shot. It was pretty cool.

Great British food and authentic atmosphere. A huge whiskey menu.

This is my regular pub, I go there every Sunday and Monday night to play trivia....so perhaps it is unfair to rank it so high. On the other hand, considering I go there at least twice a week, it would be lying to rank it otherwise! That being said, the place does have some imperfections....it is meant to. Every year they get students from the UK to work as servers for the year, so the major part of the staff is interns! The quality of service definitely varies by the year, and I've been going there for over 15 years....sometimes it is excellent, other times it can be embarrassingly bad. They usually have one (sometimes more) server that is an American with more experience, and one of the managers is the son of the owner (the owners are often there as well). It has an excellent selection of beer (which I don't like myself) and scotch (which I do like), and other spirits. Food is served, including English, Indian (the English love Indian food) and local. There are bar games, there is trivia twice a week, and often there is an excellent opportunity for conversation with people from other countries (not just the staff).

I've been going to the Old Toad for years now; it certainly is a Rochester classic. The fish and chips are award winning (for at least 6 years in a row I believe), the mushy peas are one of a kind, and you absolutely must try the sticky toffee pudding which is pictured below. There is a very extensive selection of scotches, beers, and wines.

The staff was informative and accommodating. The beer list is longer than a post graduate research paper, and the bar itself is easy on the noise, so you can actually hear your friends. A timeless classic, a charming atmosphere.

Best British pub in town. Fish and chips are amazing as is the schnitzel. They got a wide selection of great beers (including their own amazing OT 20 double IPA) and a massive selection of whiskies and scotches.

Food is always delicious. I've always heard good things about their OT Burger, and their shepherds pie. I just tried their vegan chick pea burger; was DELICIOUS. Their beer selection is top knotch - there's no question about that. And the atmosphere is always friendly. Not too crowded - ever. A+ establishment for a lowkey night of beers and food and friends.

I love the Old Toad. I have been there to eat about 3 times and to drink about 5 and I've never had a bad experience. The food is excellent with generous portions and a reasonable(though not cheap) price. They always have a good selection of beer and ale with extensive documentation(the "Beer Bible") to assist those who want to branch out from their comfort zone. Would recommend to any anglophile or human.

I really love their curry mayo more than anything. Their fries are good too, and they make a mean cocktail, especially any classic cocktail with whiskey

A perfect Black and Tan accompanied by the best fish and chips in town. A great place to visit when you need a pub fix!

All of the workers are students from England, which adds a fun ambiance to the experience. They always have 3 or 4 cask beers on tap and their cheddar ale soup, chips & dips, and fish fry are very good. Depending on how long the current group of students had been in the states, the table service can get a little slow. Sometimes it's best to just order everything at the bar and then grab a table.

Use to come here all the time as a kid with my family. Recently came back and it was just like i remember it. Great bar food with lots of beers. Just how I remembered it.
