Mohamed at the front desk was so welcoming, and accommodating. Our group of five requested our two rooms be on the same floor, which he did and gave us an upgrade!
The hotel porter, Jose was attentive and friendly and gave us good insight into the area.
Very happy with this hotel.

Clean rooms, great location next to Madison square gardens and subways. Missing frills like coffee in room and room service, but normal at these good prices. Good housekeeping service though.

Hotel only stinks of mold, very old facilities, rotten carpeting, small bed, small room can't even open the bags. I do not indicate to anyone, who can, can pay a little more and stay in another.

Squeezed two beds into a room that maybe shouldn't have had that many, meaning there was no floor space for a suitcase. I just about managed to find enough space to open the ironing board. Also quite noisy.

Tentative. Friendly. Two things you wouldn t expect right away as an outsider coming to NYC. With that, could have done without the sales pitch for a timeshare the moment I walked through the turnstiles, but my complaints are so low for this hotel. Love the charm and the history. So close to all the Manhattan attractions. Lovely and a great place to stay.

This is a nice hotel overall. Very historic interior design and architecture from the previous century. Conveniently located on the westside of Manhattan just south of the Times Square area and North of Chelsea. The only negative thing of note is that the hot water in the shower took a very long time to get hot, like a full 5 minutes, which is a waste of water. They should update the hot water system.

Very attractive lobby, building seems in good repair, early check-in fee was a bit outrageous considering it was after Noon. Bathrooms are clean, but showing their age. Overall positive experience though, nice friendly staff!

As an airline pilot I've experienced many hotels. This hotel has value - cleanliness, quiet rooms via solid walls, very helpful staff/employees. The exercise area was also very clean. The room was small yet sufficient. Highly recommend.

I stay in NYC a lot and so I'm used to tired rooms but I was excited to stay at the New Yorker and so disappointed that my room was desperately in need of a refurbishment. The lobby looks great and impressive so the actual room was even more of a let down. Don't get me wrong it was clean and functional but it would be nice to see it shine to live up to expectations of the name

Had a good stay here. As mentioned in other reviews the interior of our room was dated for sure, but clean. The room was small, not much more space then for a bed, bathroom, desk, and closet but we expected as much since it is Manhattan. However, it was plenty enough for what was needed. The lobby was very elegant looking. We were given a room with a great view and got to see the Empire State building lights turn on, which was cool. The price was definitely reasonable for the location. Speaking of the location, you couldn't ask for better. It is right smack dab in the middle of everything, Penn station and Madison square garden is a block to two blocks away and Times Square is also a walkable distance away. The bar in the hotel was nice and the service was great. Your room key was checked before you could get on the elevators in the evening. The elevators were fast going up and down, but around check in and out there was definitely a wait for them. Overall not much to complain about. We definitely enjoyed our trip and will likely stay here again.

Easily one of my favorite hotels in Manhattan. I love the history of this building and it's located adjacent to Penn Station, if you ride the train into town. The rooms can be a bit pricey, but overall it is a great experience and the views from the higher up rooms are simply amazing day or night.

I was disappointed with this hotel, they gave me the room 4 hours. after 3:00 p.m. I paid for a room upgrade, which turned out to be a shoe box, too small, considering that in NY they are already girls, there were four of us, the closet was tiny when it came to changing our traffic, walking over the beds.
We are not going back.

This hotel is like a hot dog, only good because it's in the heart of New York. Featuring tiny rooms and almost non-existent amenities, the New Yorker is not a place to go to relax but to sleep between adventures in the city. The staff was great and is honestly the only saving grace.

The hotel's history is long-standing and interesting. This is reflected in the environment, leaving even a little "outdated". The check-in and check-out service worked very well and quickly. Cleanliness ok. I think the rooms are small, but they do. Point of attention is not to have a minibar, and I learned later that this item must order in advance, strange. Bathroom was small, I saw pictures on the internet of being a bathtub with a glass shower, but Mine was a curtain, which is horrible. Wet the entire bathroom, for the "benefit" of a very small bathtub without a glass shower. There was not much space for hanging the towel around her curtain, as there was only one spot for using the bath and face towels together. Did not meet the necessary space. The location is excellent, on 8th Ave. With easy access to meters, nearby stores and convenience.

Good location 200m from the metro. From the appearance it looks like a luxury hotel but I had some problems with the rooms ... It is not very clean and does not offer a b & b solution. I would not go back. Only the suites are beautiful but they cost a bang. However expensive hotel in proportion to what it offers

Huge hotel where the Hall looks like a crowded market
Queues even to leave your bags in the luggage room and for what they charge you two dollars per bag
Damaged and old rooms
I do not recommend there are better located and more modern and better served hotels with similar prices

Just came back from spending a few days in the city. This was my first real visit to the city so I wasn't sure what to expect. The hotel itself is very nice. The staff was friendly. The rooms were neat and well kept. The halls were a little outdated, but this is an old hotel with a lot of history so that was fine by me. Everything is close by or within a mile of it. It is very easily accessible to penn station since it is a few blocks away. It is also a very safe feeling hotel. Not only cuz of the doorman, but the staff itself made it so as well. I plan on coming back to the city again in a couple months and will definitely come back here again!!

Great location next to Madison Square Garden and convenient for Times Square. You're staying in a piece of history here. Nikola Tesla stayed here in the 30's at the height of the machine age. The hotel has a huge bank vault you can dine in - in style. It's also got a convenient diner. The rooms are interesting but some are a bit tired. Most have a few accents of the hotel's hayday in the 30's. Traffic noise (all the sirens) can be a problem in some rooms, so maybe choose this hotel for a lively break, not a rest. Be sure to walk the Highline down to the Meat Packing District. The Whitney museum of American Art is conveniently located at the end. Great location, interesting place in the middle of the bustle.

The first thing I noticed was how nice the rooms were and how homely it made me feel. The service in the restaurant was incredible and the workers went above and beyond the call of duty. The food and drinks were excellent and I would definitely come back again

Excellent location. Maddison square garden across the street. Plenty of transport links. Empire state building close by. Hotel is stunning in it's art deco design and look. Staff cannot do enough for you. Room very nice and cleaned daily. 5 out of 5

This hotel has tremendous history. Owned by the Moonies, the Unification Church, along with the adjacent Manhattan Opera House (Manhattan Center and Hammerstein Ballroom), they are actually connected together. Nikola Tesla actually died in the hotel having gone penniless there and the FBI came in to collect his papers it was said. Don't know how true that is except he was working on so many inventions. The hotel was revamped under the Unification Church and combined with the Manhattan Center is a formidable catering and banquet venue. The Hammerstein Ballroom has legendary acoustics and is rightfully used for major recordings dating back to the 40's. It is truly a major piece of American and New York City history and Wyndham (the latest mark) should market it that way.

The hotel location is around the garment district and around a 10 minute walk from Times Square and other theatre's. There are Subways just a short walk from the hotel and Penn Station is across the street. It's a bustling area and you'll feel right in the heart of the Manhattan. The hotel has a history worth reading about. The rooms are mostly small, common for most Manhattan hotels in my experience. I felt out could benefit from modernisation - however part of the charm of the hotel is it's old school feel. The bathrooms are small with little space. The hallways are bleak and sparse. It's a busy hotel and they hold many events.

Love the diner themed restaurant, Tick Tock!
My favourite hangout, the food is amazing if you'd like a cheat day delight!
Ask for George at the bar, he's a great host

Our room was actually pretty spacious, bathroom kind of small... paint was peeling off the tile in the bathroom. No biggie though. Security is tight and the business and exercise facilities are great. The location of the hotel is so perfect especially if you traveling for NY Unified Auditions. Nonetheless you are only a couple blocks away from times square, Broadway shows, and great restaurants on restaurant road, among other things.

Very central location, but busy hotel and building works going on made it very noisy during the day. Staff were helpful but again very busy. Tick Tock restaurant is 24 hrs which is convenient but not the best food or service in there.

Overall poor experience. The staff wasn t very kind or friendly and due to the cost you expect much more. Rooms are small and basic, nothing special. Our view from our room was a brick wall. Our small bathroom had no curtain so you couldn t shower or water went everywhere. The only good thing was the location of course Is perfect. And at the end we explained all our concerns and without even asking for a discount the manager was very kind. Discounted a great amount from our stay and wished us well for next time. I m giving a 3 because of the customer service at the end but the experience wasn t great.

I stayed just this past weekend with some girlfriends for my birthday (3/29/13-3/30/13: Room 2607). I want to thank Mohammad specifically for making our stay memorable and making our accommodations absolutely amazing!!! I have never stayed here before; as one of my girlfriends stays here quite frequently with work and I'd have to say it was truly an amazing experience! The room was spacious and the view from our balcony (which I was not expecting) was breath taking! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay and even better birthday!

This was a really great Hotel to vacation at. It was really nice the people were great and in a very good location. If you want to be able to be in the middle of Times Square or close to a lot of restaurants, this is a really nice hotel to stay at. The price is reasonable considering other hotels around. I was very close 2 a lot of events that were going on at the time like festivals near 9th Street. This hotel is located within Times Square if not a little bit closer. The rooms are cozy but I did not know this a restaurant or anything attached within the confines of the building. But there are a lot of restaurants and stores within the strip. Loved my visit.
