Great location. Rooms are typically small as expected with Manhattan hotels. Generally it could do with some updating. No coffee machine in the room either. Security is good at ensuring only guests enter the elevator area.

This place is so cool. It s an old hotel so the rooms are small, but that should be expected. There is a hidden gem in this place, they have a little display of Nicola Tesla down stairs. It turns out he used to live there. The hotel is right I. The heart of the city and is walking distance to MSG and food options are everywhere.
This review is going to be a little biased. I was only going to be in town for one day, so I could take my daughter around the city. We arrived in the city @10 am. I knew we couldn't check in, but we went to the hotel just to drop our bags off.
So we're standing in line an a lady approaches us and says she can help and points to a little desk and we sit. Told her what was up and she said hold on a second. She picks the phone up, calls someone and got us a beyond super early check in. Then because it was my daughter's first time, the lady made sure we could see the empire state building.
She went out of her way to make a little girl's first visit to NYC very special and for that I can never thank her enough. The hotel was amazing, a NYC icon, a must stay, even if only for a night. Some rooms can be quite costly, but I wouldn't skip a beat and pay it.
Great location and friendly staff. 2 of the best bagel shops, great pizza joint across from hotel and so close to Macy's. Carpet on floors and rooms are a bit old and worn out though.
I've been booked here twice through work. Both times I ended up with a single hole room when I should have had a double. While the lobby is stunning, the rooms are small even by NYC standards. We could barely walk around the bed. There are far nicer hotels at lower prices. Keep looking.
Been waiting for over a month for $1,000 dollars in overage charges to be credited back to our Credit Cards. Went for a trip last month and no one will email me back or call me. Not impressed. I will keep trying everyday until they respond. Unfortunately, I'm accruing long distanced charges because I'm in Canada. Beware! (not happy I had to actually choose a star - undeserved.) Was told 10 business days - that was last Friday.
It's cheap. You can get a place for a reasonable price if you where anywhere else in the country for a good 4 star hotel. In NY though, this is not the case. The room was about 10 by 10 feet, and obviously very old and that showed. Old and dirty. And so small I couldn't even use the toilet because it was so close to the wall. Sink broke on the second day. Shower felt like I was being tortured by a fire truck water hose. Linens were suspect.
HORRIBLE HOTEL! Hottest days of the year, 110+ degrees and the hotels AC s weren t working in the rooms. Hotel staff could careless. I understand things happen, especially since this was a huge heatwave that moved through but have a little sincerity towards the people who were sleeping in 80+ degree heat rooms. Location was horrible. Homeless and harassing people with guest service doing nothing, even when they witness it. Hotel was filthy! Housekeeping never accommodated our needs when requesting towels and bedding etc.
Overall, a horrible experience at the hotel. Lesson learned, we won t be staying here again.
This is a great hotel. The location is good. There is a subway stop around the corner and Madison square garden is close by. There are a few restaurants in the hotel. I recommend getting a drink at the butcher and the banker. It is located in a former bank vault. The building is older and the city noises do travel up to the rooms. I suggest earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The staff are very friendly.
Perfectly located with a very welcoming and smiling team, large room for us with an exceptional view of the city and the Empire State Building, a very good value for money, we will come back!
One of the historic hotels from around 1930. The entrance hall is amazing! The service is good.
The rooms are ok but do need some improvements. The floors need much improvements...
The try to charge a ressort fee (around 60 dollar!) from every new customer. Be sure to check if it is included while booking a room at your travel agency or over the internet.
Back to positive: if you want to see a match or a concert at the Madison Square Garden, you just have to choose The New Yorker. It s just across the street! The hotel is very in the center of NYC and well connected via Penn Station to Subway and LIRR (Long Island RailRoad) .
Rooms very small the bath water ran brown at times hotel very run down all corridors looked tired only 3 out of the 6 elevators35 minutes at times to wait for an elevator outside rotating door not working ques to get in and out but received letter saying they was sorry for the inconvenience The only saving grace is its location
The location was nice, it was right in the middle of all the places we wanted to go on our trip. The rooms were great, they had a homey feel to it. The rooms didn't look too amazing but that's to be expected. The service was great, it was reliable and nobody really bothered you, only coming when you were gone. It was an all in all great experience, and if we go to New York again I would be okay with staying at this hotel again.
Staff was very rude and not very occomidating. The Tic Toc waitress was also very rude and begged for a larger tip after she was terrible to us. Room was small, bathroom as well, over all bad hotel experience.
I wish there is option for 0 star!!! I went to New York for a business trip last week and booked Wyndham New Yorker Hotel. I went there by train. 1.When I arrived at 3pm, they said customers cannot check in before 4, they would call me when the room is ready. Then, they called me on 5:10pm without any apology. 2.There was a spider in the bathroom, and the sink didnt work well. 3.When I checked out, I was in a hurry to catch a train. It took the concierge 20 minutes to find my luggage, made me very anxious. After the concierge slowly walk back as chatting with others, I asked him if he could write me a receipt faster. He said: Do you mean I m too slow? Then he wrote deliberately very slow. It took him 5 minutes to finish it. Should I be treated roughly because I m an Asian? He treat other people polite and neat. 4.After I checked my bank account, I found that the hotel charged me $60.00 for parking fee. I don t have any car at New York, I don t know how I can park there. I have been to New York a lot, and have stayed different hotels. I understand some hotels may not that perfect, staffs may not that polite, but this was the WORST hotel WORST staff I have ever seen. I will never come back. This kind of discrimination made me really mad.
I was many years ago in this wonderful Hotel. The location: EXCELLENT. All very glamorous, to highlight: its fluffy rugs, its impressive chandeliers with lights, the friendliness of its employees. I hope to return one day.
Rooms can be small, but that's normal hotel rooms in NYC. Still gets 5 stars though because the staff was excellent in all areas, 3 very good onsite restaurants, and I had amazing hot water every day for a week. Close to Times Square, MSG, and lots of good restaurants - and subway right outside the front door. Would stay again without question.
This is a well-established hotel. A hotel that represents New York with the history of New York. It was a first-class hotel, but now it has a reputation for being a popular hotel with excellent cospa and easy access. Best of all, it's located in Midtown Manhattan, close to Madison Square Garden. Overall, there is no better hotel.
Good value, rooms are small but not too small, clean and well decorated. Shower could have been better but opted for relaxing baths instead. Staff were helpful and friendly with the exception of one receptionist, who was just a bit blunt in her manner.
I've stayed here on my last 4 visits to NYC. It's and around fantastic hotel. Location is excellent, staff are great, rooms are a great size with comfy beds and the original art deco features are fantastic.. It's a hotel full of history and charm. And if you get a room with a view you won't be disappointed. I recommend the new yorker to anyone that's going to NYC
Very nice hotel room. Great view from the balcony. Very nice staff. Very very very nice room service. The beds are better than mine at home. Absolute recommendation. Room 2623 from the balcony view the madness.
The hotel has hidden fees and the room we had was nothing like the picture. Outdated old and a rip off. Only reason for 2 stars was for the location and lobby.
I found the hotel absolutely fine especially the location. Yes , it is old and dated but it is clean and security is very good, you have to show your room key before you get on the lift. It is opposite Madison Square Gardens and 1 block from Penn St. The subway is on both corners, Highline is 3 blocks down West 34th St, Macy's 2 blocks away with loads of other good shops. Empire State Building is also 3 blocks with JC Penny's and Manhattan Mall just around the corner. Rooms small just like New york bathroom small but clean. We got a room with 2 double beds and 2 bathrooms and it was massive but no view. Well u can't have everything. Tick Tock is OK but there r plenty of places to eat to the left of the hotel especially for breakfast. PAX was great for breakfast and rolls for lunch, it's left out the front across the road and 3 blocks down. For 7 nights it was 220 dollars extra in tax and services but all the hotels charge this, although your really paying for nothing. Staff r great at helping you with advice and how to get there especially what train to get and which subway station to use. Would definitely go back. The pics r left and right of the hotel and on the corner at tick Tock looking up towards Empire State Building.
I have just had a week here. Great location in the hustle and bustle of NYC. You're just a short walk from times Square, Macy's and MSG is just across the road. The hotel it's self is nice. The rooms are a good size, clean and tidy. That's all you need really as most of the time you're out and about sight seeing. Staff were polite and the hotel was well priced and as expected. Would stay here again.
Excellent location. Close to the Empire States Building, Macys and Time Square. We were in a double room with 2 Queen size beds. The rooms were clean and the beds were really comfy.
Lovely welcoming ambience, unbelievable views from the room, Fantastic Midtown location- opposite Madison Square Gardens & Penn Street Station, And Empire State Building visible from outside the Hotel! The room is good & the bed Very comfortable. Really happy with our stay here so far!"
