The hotel is located in large parts of Manhattan close to everything. It is very convenient. The staff was very helpful. We were updated upon arrival, it was fine, but not very good for two adults and one teenager. The problem was with the shower and there was no kettle. The view was wonderful. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

for such a wonderful city, New York has so many amazing places to stay and so many beautiful sights to see. sadly, the New Yorker doesn't fit into either category. it is long overdue a refurbishment and a decent makeover. the hotel feels like it's hanging on by a thread. there is a very old smell in the hotel, which also boasts a student pot vibe. neither of which one likes to experience when staying in a New York hotel. improvements need to be made..

Stayed here for one night on May 30, 2018 up on the 7th floor. Gorgeous lobby. The numerous lobby elevators were assigned to different levels: lower floors were the left elevator bank, with the higher floors assigned to the elevators on the right.

Check-in was quick and efficient. I had used membership points for the room, and they took a credit card for any incidentals. The room was a tad on the small size, the bathroom really small. If you re sitting on the john, you have to enter the bathroom first and then close the door, otherwise you ll never get to the toilet paper. And the glass shower door is situated such that after you turn on the water it gets all oven the floor unless you point the nozzle towards the side wall. Hot water was plentiful. The room s a/c worked brilliantly and kept the room nice and cold. I didn t use the TV at all, just never was in the room much. Bed was almost too comfortable.

No issues with street noise, but I also used earplugs (those moldable silicon type) just in case. No view so to speak out the window unless I leaned way, way, way over the large, room-width desk blocking the window and I could see Madison Square Gardens.

Didn t use any of the hotel facilities.

Overall a great stay at a very nice hotel. Would stay here again.

Very good hotell. A nice resturant perfect for breakfast and one quite nice for a dinner. The room was very old fashion but also very nice. The lobby was also perfect size with a small group of sofas. Perfect if you want to live in the middle og NYC.

It is an old hotel and only the lobby has been renovated. The small and shabby room. And the worst was at checkout when they charged me a "resort fee" of almost $ 40 PER NIGHT. It shouldn't have a 4-star rating because even room water costs $ 3.50. For the money you can get much better. I do not recommend it!

The hotel from hell!

The hotel from hell!

With an extra charge for amenities which consist mainly of WiFi whether you want it or not. $126.28.

Drafty small rooms with heating systems connected durectly to hell. Either it is freezing in the room or it s like being an ant in a hair dryer set to HIGH. At the end of four days my sinuses were dead and I was hallucinating from lack of sleep. The only thing that helped was sleeping with a wet wash cloth over my face.

Vending machine down the hall is empty. For all four days.

Cavernous lobby furnished with empty bookcases and stunned Europeans by the bus load.

This not a four star or three star. This is pretty much a no star.

Skip it.

A week later we were back in NYC and stayed at a Double Tree. Far superior.

Great location, within walking distance to many destinations. The suite was a good size, 4 people fit comfortably once the roll-a-away bed was brought in. The roll-a-away was broken and they didn't end up charging us for it.

Wi-Fi was poor, 30 to 40 percent of the time. Shower often varies between hot and cold, TV is lacking in channels if you still watch TV in 2018.

This place is not really a place to bring friends, as the room size is comparable to that of a motel 6. Good luck.

The view is pretty nice.
I respect the historical feel of this place too, but sometimes change is good. Food for thought.

Rooms are very dated and small , very disappointed , late check in 4pm unless you pay or they will hold luggage at $5 per case , receptionist informed me that this late check in is world wide . Having done a fair amount of travelling don t like being lied to ! Would like to give a positive but struggling to, front of house staff are stuffy , ah yes but the house keeping gals are friendly and smile nice welcome from them . The retro diner food is pretty poor. Don t get me started on bathroom and plastic cups . Seriously for the price ya pay!!! Only up side and only 1 star is location location location

We stayed here for the weekend and it was very nice. The staff is friendly, there is security at the elevators for your safety. It has two great restaurants on either side, which is very convenient, and it's located right by Penn Station and within walking distance of Times Square, Broadway, the Vessel, and Gotham Comedy Club. We were there when a brief power outage occurred and the staff was helpful. I would definitely stay here again. I thought it was a great price too, compared to other hotels I've stayed at in NYC.

This is an iconic hotel. Located on 34th st, in the heart of midtown Manhattan, it is near the most popular places of New York - 1 block from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, 8 blocks from Times Square and 3 avenues from the Empire State Building.

There is a diner and an upscale restaurant attached to the building. There is everything you need here. And on top of that, the employee culture is always professional and willing to go above and beyond.

In a nutshell; overpriced and lacking basic amenit...

In a nutshell; overpriced and lacking basic amenities (see: refrigerator, coffee maker, bathroom exhaust fan, decent television, ample wifi speed) obnoxiously small room, in desperate need of proper renovation.

When we arrived, we had to wait 3 hours to check into our room. We made the best of it by walking around the area, which is decent unless you walk west of the hotel; the areas are dicey at night. However, walk east and you are only a couple of blocks from Macy's, the Empire State Building, and 5th street. The hotel is immediately adjacent to Madison Square Garden and Penn Station, very convenient for subway trips to lower Manhattan. When we were finally able to check in, we were disappointed with the room. I could tell it was going to be underwhelming based on the dingy hallways.

Open the door to your room and you'll nearly be at the edge of the bed. I'm not exaggerating here; the room is nowhere near what is advertised online. If I had to guess, it is around 10' x 10', with the bathroom at most 3' x 2'. The room is basically a queen bed with a desk sandwiched less than a foot from it on one side, a full length mirror 6 inches from the front of the bed, and a wall/window about a foot from the other side. There is no refrigerator, no coffee maker, one outlet (at the foot of the bed, so you have to leave your phone to charge on the floor at night) and a desktop monitor-sized TV with picture quality out of 2004. The TV isn't so bad if you're out and about like you should be in New York, but is certainly disappointing if you want to relax and watch TV at night before bed.

The closet is so small that only one person can hang about 5-6 items. The safe, ironing board and iron take up about 30% of the closet space. The safe is mounted in the center at the height of the hangers, and if you hang any clothes next to it, the closet door won't shut, which blocks the main door to the room. The safe is intrusive to closet space, but on the inside, I could only fit a couple watches and my girlfriend's passport. It occasionally didn't lock. Not good.

The bathroom is the reason that I took this review from a 2-star to a 1-star review. The floor is dirty and cracked, and the grout is rotting. The shower hardware is rusting and squeaky, and when you do use the shower, the entire room becomes a steam room. There is no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Really? Most motels have a bathroom fan. The shower water is sporadically hot and cold. The temperature ranges from ice cold to boiling, and if you try and set the temperature in between, it will vary between the two. The pressure is not bad, however. The sink is simply a shallow bowl with little edging to hold toiletries. You'll end up splashing water everywhere if you even try to wash your hands. There is a glass shelf above it barely big enough to hold two people's things, and the toilet is mounted so low to the floor that it's uncomfortable to sit on. Overall, the bathroom is just horrid.

As for the view, ours was very good. The Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and MSG were all visible day and night. The only complaint is the dirty/oxidized window that somewhat blocks that view at night.

There is an obvious lack of any sound insulation in this old building, and the Wyndham seems to have ignored this area of the renovation. We were on the 25th floor and could clearly hear traffic and voices as if we were on the 3rd floor. I could hear guests in the room across from us coughing, sneezing and moving around all night. It's uncomfortable and annoying.

Among other things, it was hot during our trip, and we like to sleep in a cooler room. We set our thermostat to 67 degrees each day, and the staff would constantly shut off or reset our thermostat to 72 degrees and open our curtains to let the sun in. While this doesn't seem like a big deal, the small room gets very hot very quickly, and the air conditioner unit is extremely loud and makes "buzzing" noises. We often came back to the room at night having to set the thermostat to its lowest point to cool it down.

I saw some reviews and was quite sceptical of what it was going to be like. However, I loved the hotel! Everything was within walking distance (subway station, pharmacy, plenty of restaurants and shops) it was great! The hotel was nice and I had a view of the Empire state building! The only thing is that the bathroom is quite small and they don't supply many toiletries so bring your own! Other than that, I'll definitely stay here again!

We had a great trip to the New Yorker. Beautiful Art Deco style. I surprised my wife with a trip to NYC from DC on Amtrak and the location is a block from Penn Street station and MSG - and we were there to Billy Joel (which I would highly recommend!). Great view of the Empire State building! The rooms are small and clean. I see people saying they're a little dated, but for me, it's what I expected...you don't go to NYC to stay in the room! There is a diner on the first floor but we didn't eat there. The staff was friendly and helpful and the price was what I expected based on the location. Great coffee, pizza and a nice Irish pub nearby...and I'm sure tons more! We would definitely stay here again for sure.

Stay in May 2016, Hotel a bit dated but clean with correct service and good location. We stayed in the Mohamed Ali suite and apart from the armchair with more than questionable comfort (with the springs in the ribs) the rest was very good.

Recently stayed at The New Yorker and it was an awful experience. Rooms and bathrooms are extremely outdated. We were there early and planned on dropping off bags and go see the city which we did. We were told our room would not be available till after 4pm which is the normal check-in time so we had to downgrade rooms just so we could get into a room to get ready for dinner. We had an metro view room and the bathroom was literally the smallest I ve ever seen. I could sit on the toilet and touch the sink and the bath tub at the same time. While in the shower you can open and shut the door. While getting ready for dinner the power goes out in the room. We called the front desk and they said they would have somebody fix it. After 30 minutes we began calling again since nobody showed up....Called the front desk 6 times with no answer. Ended up calling on my cell phone and of course somebody answered. We found one outlet in the bathroom that worked so it was extremely tough for our wives to get ready. We saw a maintenance employee (Eric, I believe) in the hallway and asked if he was working on the power outage and he extremely rude and in less words pretty much said mind you re own business. Of course me not being happy with what was happening I smarted off back and words were exchange. The fact the maintenance man was arguing back with a customer was making me more mad at the situation. We had to leave for dinner reservations and told them on the phone not to come in our room due to valuables being left out. We wven put a do not disturb on our our door yet they still entered our room. No apologies, or anything over the problems. I will never stay at this hotel again and I d advise you not to as well.

Hotel is in a fantastic location for first timers. However be careful the hotel do take out a holding fee which they do explain to you, this will go back into your account providing there isn't any damages. Which is fine but they sneekly put chargers on at the end of the trip. If you have booked your stay though a booking agency and not directly with them they charge you for the business center, gym, phone and internet. And class them as daily rates. Even though the intent is free all guests. Unfortunately I couldn't get out of these charges they wouldn't do anything other than tell me it's policy. This is because they class you as business guests because a booking agency has booked it for you. So be careful other than that it's a friendly hotel

It is a nice hotel in the middle of the 34th street district. Hundreds of restaurants and stores. The restaurant is one block away from Penn Station and two blocks from the subway station where a one way trip to anywhere it goes is $3.00. Madison Square Garden is just two blocks away as well. No need to rent a car. Parking is very scarse in the area. The hotel parking is $60.00 away. Parking garages vary from $30.00 and up per day. Tbe hotel itself is nice. Concierge service can book any tour as well as theater shows. The view from the metro rooms is incredible, specially at night.

ZERO STARS! Sadly, this was the WORST hotel experience of my life. First, let me start of by saying that I spend $900 on 2 nights in this sh#@ hole. This money is something I saved forever for!! What did I get for $900? Well, I got the worst customer service on the planet, 2 hours sitting in the lobby after check in time waiting for our room to be ready even though I was repeatedly told it would be just another "minute"...obviously not a New York minute. I also got cardboard beds that were made for dwarves (our feet hung off the edges), a sink that was so shallow, you couldn't wash your hands, a broken shower door, more rude customer service, charged for holding bags before check in, a broken bathroom door knob....oh, have I mentioned that the rudest people on the planet work here? And lastly, oh yeah, the worst customer service on the planet. Don't ask for a bathroom pass, don't make eye contact with employees, and God whatever you do, do NOT ask if your room is ready

The photos of the standard rooms on their website are very misleading. These are photos from the room we are currently in. The hotel rooms are dated, dirty, and extremely small. And the bathrooms are in disrepair. Do yourself a favor and don t stay here. Don t be fooled by how nice the lobby looks!

and the fee WiFi listed on google? Not free. It s included in a daily $40/day extra facility fee.

Security is good, old buildings are used neatly, and you can feel the good old days. There is bathtub, too and temperature and momentum of hot water are satisfied. However, the outlet was loose and could not be charged, or the outlet of the dryer in the room could not be used in the bathroom. There is not much dissatisfaction, but the price is high for this.

The New Yorker is in a good location and is a very historic and somewhat chic hotel. The old art decor exterior has largely been kept and the interior is clean, if not very attractive.

The rooms are a comfortable size for one person and a squeeze for more than one. Some of the rooms are very loud due to the old pipes running through the walls. All of the doors are fire doors so make a loud noise when closing, which can end up sounding like a drum beating with so many rooms on each floor.

The worst part of the hotel would have to be the services. Housekeeping will barge into rooms without warning to clean, or never come by at all. Clothes sent to the laundry or dry cleaning are never seen again. There are a lot of people working at the Hotel, but none seem empowered / trained or motivated to do much to help you.

You cannot drink in the bar downstairs or eat in the diner and have the bill charged to your room, which seems small but is very inconvenient and a little sloppy.
