We went right before it opened and enjoyed looking at the various exhibits without much crowding. We sat in front of the large tank and enjoyed watching the fish, sting rays and sharks for quite a while. The part where the sharks can swim above your head is smaller than I expected. The sea lion show is okay (a little long for what it is and there is no shade). You could easily spend 2 hours here. We left after an hour and a half and there was a huge line to get in (with prepaid tickets/memberships).

It was nice. But it's not to many things to see. The show was entertaining. And me and my niece went the tickets were half off. Which was really awesome. All in all I had fun just bring your own food. I wasn't paying 5 dollars for a hot dog lol

Always a fun experience for kids. Note that currently most of the aquarium is still under construction post hurricane sandy. However, the shows and exhibits that are available are enjoyable.

Shark has new place, but still small overall. The rooftop area is full of bird droppings, not safe to bring family up there to eat and enjoy the scenery. No elevator to get up there for strollers. Parking is spacious and there are other attractions around the aquariums.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY !!!!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY !!!!
I went there with 5kids who were extremely bored after 10min. . . There is absolutely nothing interesting to see or to do there. Everything is CLOSED. After spending 75$(entree fee and parking) I had to LEAVE the Aquarium 10min after arrival to go on the board walk and spend money on rides from Luna rides or stg like that. RIDICULOUS. Drove from jersey to NYC, just to waste my timr and the kid's !

The acqa show was done well. They have a decent collection of fish. Sea lions, Otters and sharks are the main attractions. 2 hours 30 min is ample time to cover it all. There is a 4D show about ice-age which is irrelevant to the theme.

Love it

The new Reef Encounters exhibit that was opened last year after Superstorm Sandy devastated the aquarium is stunning. You feel like you're actually under the ocean scuba diving with the rays, sharks anemones, millions of smaller fish and a big loggerhead turtle swimming all around you from floor to ceiling. The spiral ramp encircling the reef building provides breathtaking views of the shoreline without leaving the aquarium premises. Outdoor open exhibits with sea otters, penguins and sea lions as well as a live aquarium show are fun too. Parking is very limited as are lunch tables.. If you're already a Bronx Zoo Legacy member, admission and 3 hr parking are free. Unfortunately, the exhibits with the touch tanks and jellyfish are still under renovation and the beluga whale and walrus exhibits of the past are gone, consequently, I am reserving my 5 star rating for the fully open aquarium. Its still an amazing place to visit with the family.

Cool

The New York Aquarium is the oldest continually operating aquarium in the United States, having opened in Castle Garden in Battery Park, Manhattan in 1896. Since 1957, it has been located on the boardwalk in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The aquarium is operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) as part of its integrated system of four zoos and one aquarium, most notably the Bronx Zoo. It is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).

The new shark building is very neat. The facts are very educating. The tanks were organized nicely. I enjoyed how the tanks were decorated and filled with animals that would be found in that area. The sea lion show was very nice, teaching people not to litter and to recycle which was a very good way of spreading awareness. Overall I liked the aquarium and would come back many times.

It was pretty good. It was a hot day, and the air conditioning in the first exhibit hall wasn't working very well. Also some areas were still under construction. But it was half price, I think all summer, so only $12 for adults I think. I brought my two year old daughter and she had a blast. The shark building was great.

I come here at least once a year, but since they opened up the shark exhibit I want to make at least two trips a year. The shark tunnel is beautiful and loaded with different species of shark. I also love the sea lion show. No matter how old I am, or how many times I see it, it will never get old. Best aquarium of any I have seen.

Beautiful.

Nice place for the whole family, the only problem was that some attractions are close for remodeling and there's no advertising about that . Better call and ask before buying the tickets.

Loved the experience there. It does get a bit busy at times but you just look at something else and come back later. That's what I did with my kids and it works every time. Good fun times with different fishes from small to giants ... Should definitely go and see. Outside penguins are cool.

Have had a membership for years. I purchase just to see bruiser and Osbourne. My favorite sea lions. Kanobe is cute too. Some GREAT things are being renovated, but it's been 4 years and it's taking a REALLY long time. Can't wait till it's FULLY up and running again

So happy the Aquarium is open!!!

The renovations since Hurricane Sandy are fabulous. The new shark exhibit is excellent. The rooftop bar is a great idea, but further training is definitely needed. There were no less than eight people behind the bar but no one was being served. We waited way too long to place an order.
I can't wait for more exhibits to open

Kids loved it. Location is great. Went early on a Sunday in winter, had the place virtually all to ourselves. Nemo and Dory were a highlight for the kids (they have a display tank with the same type of fish)

Currently being revamped and upgraded but still really worth the time to go. But definitely make sure you go and see the seal show otherwise you're just throwing away money. Fun and great place to take a date or family.

Fun for smaller children and great for talking to them about the different creatures of the sea. Not recommended for adults unless you really love sea animals.
Bring a scarf or an umbrella if you want to see the sea lion show.
