Note: this will likely change a lot after the renovations are complete. However, in the meantime, the aquarium has a couple nice attractions such as the sea lions and some fish; however the rest is pretty bad. The place is dirty, run down, with very little to see. There is no lunch place or any spot at all to relax. I can t even think of how you could spend more than 1.5 hours there. There s very little to see and you are better off waiting until the renovations are complete. I didn t feel very comfortable and felt kind of bad for some animals given the emptiness and rust of the place.

It is a small place and is currently under reconstruction and remodeling after the damage caused by Sandy. There are few animals, but the sea lion show and the 4D film by SpongeBob stand out. I think the price is high for the little there is to see.

It's okay. It's great for the kids, but I felt like they had regular fish throughout the whole indoor thing. I saw the sea lion show and that was great. I would recommend doing that if you go.

Wonderful ! Made me a kid all over again! Employees very knowledgeable and friendly. My girls 17 and 13 eyes were sparkling with excitement with the aquarium. I will return next summer !

Really nice... only thing is that we went when they were renovating so displays were limited. (Hence the 4 of 5 stars) They should be good for the summer tho with a brand new shark display!

Not sure it s worth the trip. In summer the vibe might be different.
The whole space empathizes a lot on preserving all the wilderness. Some space could use fresh paint and modernization as turtle space for instance.

I give this 2 stars because of the sea lion show which was really cute. However there's not a great variety of species. More than half of the aquarium is closed to the public (due to hurricane sandy destroying some of the building). Parking is expensive. I recommend to take the train which is right across the street.

I am originally from new York but had not seen in 14years because relocated to Miami, but I hated it so, my son will be going to college in new York, so it was a perfect opportunity to see upgrades to this marvelous city and was impressed.

The New York Aquarium is incapable of scanning tickets properly they charged me for two adult tickets and scanned both of them at the same time, even though my wife wasn't standing there with me. They would not issue a refund. they are not issuing refunds today and say that it is not possible to have managers help issue refunds for this. They scanned two of my adult tickets and they cannot allow my wife to come into the place because they already scanned her ticket despite the fact that she is not here.

Besides this, almost all of the park is not functional today due to the construction and rain.

Do not waste any time or money here ~$12 per ticket + ~$13 for parking.

Spend 2 to 3 hours here. Small area overall to see. Discounts for tickets online ..save money. New attraction for summer 2018 is the sharks. When I went since it's a new attraction aspect to be on line 20 30 mins. All indoor exhibition dont real have air conditioning. Shark tunnel is there when you first enter the exhibit but it's a short tunnel. Isnt that really long. Other exhibits past the tunnel.

I find every aquarium amazing. I am a big ocean life enthusiastic and coming here after renovations was an exciting day for me. Saw beautiful and cool things. Although they can add some more cool things, I will come again next time in Coney Island.

The SHARKS section did not meet my expectations. There was not the great variety of sharks that I expected to be the New York Aquarium.

My experience at The New York Aquarium was mixed.

My experience at The New York Aquarium was mixed.
Pros:
-Nice variety of Fish and other marine creatures
-Exhibits well done
-Easy to Navigate
-Clean and well maintained grounds
-Family friendly
-Near Public transportation

Cons:
-Overpriced for what you actually get. (About $32 usd for adults and $28 usd for children under 12
-Small Facilities
- Unfriendly and disengaged staff.
-Half of the exhibitions closed
-Cafeteria closed and lack of sitting areas to eat.
-A bit out of the way, you spend more time getting there than what you actually see.
-Neighborhood dead outside summer months.
Most shops and food closed.

While The Marine life was beautiful, I did not find The aquarium worth visiting. It took more time getting there, than what they had showing.
If you Happen to be in the area and love marine then maybe visit.

Well it took 5 mins to walk through out the aquarium, as a Biology student it wasnt as embracing to the study of wild life. I gave it 2 stars becuase its still renivating and the price is still same as if it was not.

This is the score my daughter gave the place...she is six. I went to this aquarium 8-10 years ago and it was under construction, and it is still under construction. If it wasnt for Brewser, the sea lion, and the 4D movie I would have asked for a refund. There were no snack stands to eat at besides their rooftop "bar" and pretzel stand which sold raw pretzels. You had to walk forever to their rooftop stand and at that point you prefer to drink from water fountain. Slow service. My greatest disappointment stems from the fact that i rode the train for about 2 hours each way and for nothing grand. You would enjoy the Mystic Aquarium ten times more.

Visited on a Monday- virtually no one was here probably because it s the first day of school. Parking lot closes at 5:30pm free for NY zoo and Aquarium members. If you haven t seen the beautiful new shark tank and tunnel it s the biggest highlight of the visit. 4D Shark theatre experience still runs even on quiet days and is free of course for members.

Ok. When renovations are complete, it will be amazing--however, it's awful that they are shellacking tourists with full admission price when you can get through the entire park in about 20 minutes. Discount the entry fee until the Reno is done.

Love it

Worst aquarium i have been to customer service is very bad, they have no indoor seating area to eat not that many attractions. I was really upset i wasted my money. Will never go back guaranteed.

Everything is very beautiful, although everything is still not working, due to the passage of Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, it damaged the Aquarium. Because of that there is a price drop from $ 19 to $ 11
