Dirty and Disorganized...

Dirty and Disorganized...
Constantly overwhelmed staff (which is to be expected...)
ONLY A MENS PROGRAM IN THEIR BUILDINGS***
Women can sleep in their "courtyard" outside and in the elements. Only plus is maybe a little security but barely even that.

There's a lot to say about this place. I am very disappointed. There is a Bed-Bug infestation, while Dust Mites have taken over and all the clients have to have several blankets on their bed to keep from being bit. There is a roach infestation and an over abundance of diseases and drugs in this place. There is a HUGE Theft issue (the majority of the workers who work there, LIVE there, and do a lot of the Thievery.) Its a lot of bad, dark politics that sweep and slither thru this place. If you dare complain, you will be threatened by staff that "you will be exited." The staff will straight up call you a liar and have you dismissed out of the program if you dare repeat something they said or done that will cause them to be fired. The biggest issues that I have is how these people treat these homeless people that they are suppose to be helping. They cuss at them, yell at them, manipulate them and keep them dummied down and in the dark.. I dont like that people are not REALLY being helped.. the program seemingly has been taken over by crooks whose only concern is make it seem like the business is "Popping" and "Thriving" when really no one and I mean no one is benefiting from this program layout. The only exception is the fact they give you a bed to sleep in, that's not even clean I might add. There's leaks everywhere, the plumbing is bad to worse. out of 20 some odd showers only 4-5 of them work. It smells constantly, there's mountains of dust all over the ceiling vents. The dorms where the men sleep is a qauranteen of disease and sickness as the skidrow shelter beds and the program beds are in the same room. Alot of the food is expired and they serve chicken, white rice and beans almost everyday either for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or all 3 in a day, sometimes everyday. Worse then all this, there isn't a working system that paves a way of success for the clients. Everybody wanna be known for donating money, and have they name plastered on the wall, but who does what with that money once donated is the difference between vision or vanity, success or failure, or growth or greed. When I tried to suggest reconstructing the program outline or layout a little to include more discipline, more responsibility, more services, and a customer service oriented atmosphere, I was shunned away and was told by Larry Love and other staff in that circle around me that day "thats not going to happen; our program is not written to help grow people and nurture there mental health or teach them anything... we were told not to not give advice or give any information to clients." It was when I started speaking life and destiny, and giving some clients motivation and a focus and to simply leave them words that help them dedicate to themselves in a deeper way, I was despised and told im doing too much and I need to stop talking or its not gonna go well for me here. I was also threatened to be exited out of the program for my spiritual beliefs.

The staff have this tough love approach to the dudes in the rehab program. He's a real tool. Mark Novick is a insensitive.piece of work .he's something else. If you sleep in the courtyard the bathroom is a drug bazzare .just like the streets around the place..if you get into one of the programs you get better food than what they serve the "street people" .

I had the pleasure of serving at the Midnight Mission Thanksgiving of 2009 with a group of friends. I have volunteered at other homeless shelters and this one is unique in that they are privately funded, meaning they fully believe in their mission and goals and are committed to achieving them in the way they feel is best. I learned the most about homelessness in Los Angeles from this shelter, specifically from Mr. Ward. He is such a personable person and is very open about his own past and history with the Midnight Mission. He was always professional in my dealings with him and was always very gracious and humble. This shelter truly has the heart behind what they do and how they help men in need.

Homelessness is a reality and this is a great shelter, they serve meals and they help you with housing after you stay in their shelter a few months. I especially like the people who work there. Very unique and "one-of-a-kind" type of people. God bless them.

Although this location is extremely dirty and in one of the worst parts of town, the services and people who provide those services here are both very good, and their is a huge positive impact based on that. That makes things a little more easier here.

You can always get a meal at the midnight mission (except lunch on Sunday). It's not an enjoyable experience, but it's consistent and u can line up as many times as u want. They are strict about their times, if lunch is until 12:45, you won't get in if it's 12:46. Lately they've given out Starbucks mercato (salads, sandwiches, yogurt) items to-go. You can also use the bathroom and get a shower...u have to check your bag and the men's showers are an open row of five showerheads...locker room (or prison) style. Get in, get out. It's clean and quick, unlike other options on skid row.

The faces change but the people are humble and appreciative of the services that are provided. I don't know if I learn more from the people you serve with a hot plate or the people in the kitchen showing you how things supposed to be done.Great experiences!

About The Midnight Mission

The Midnight Mission is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to helping people experiencing homelessness since 1914. The organization provides a wide range of services to help individuals and families get back on their feet and transform their lives.

One of the key services offered by The Midnight Mission is emergency shelter. The organization operates several shelters throughout the Los Angeles area, providing safe and secure housing for those in need. In addition to shelter, The Midnight Mission also offers meals, clothing, and other basic necessities to help individuals meet their immediate needs.

But the mission of this organization goes beyond just providing basic necessities. The Midnight Mission also offers a variety of programs designed to help individuals overcome the root causes of homelessness and achieve long-term success. These programs include job training, education assistance, addiction recovery support, mental health counseling, and more.

One unique aspect of The Midnight Mission's approach is its focus on holistic healing. Rather than simply addressing one specific issue or problem area, the organization takes a comprehensive approach that addresses all aspects of an individual's life - physical health, mental health, emotional well-being, financial stability - in order to create lasting change.

Another important aspect of The Midnight Mission's work is its commitment to community involvement. Volunteers play a crucial role in supporting the organization's efforts by donating time and resources to help those in need. Whether it's serving meals at one of the shelters or participating in fundraising events throughout the year, there are many ways for people from all walks of life to get involved with this important cause.

If you're interested in learning more about how you can support The Midnight Mission's work or get involved as a volunteer or donor yourself visit their website today! With your support we can continue transforming lives for generations come!
