I have eaten at the Middle House three times now and must say the service and food and beer is excellent.
Great Menu ,good size meals but more importantly really fresh and tasty food. Probably the best pub food in Sussex .
ps lovely old building in a real old fashioned high street. Worth a visit on its own. .

Both the original and the newer part are beautiful and it was a joy to eat here. The Christmas dinner was one of the best I've ever had, the service was prompt, and I look forward to another meal there

Pure bliss, on a scale of 10, on atmosphere, food, surroundings.
We have been here before, usually few times a year, we love the food, choice.
We never get disappointed, you can tell the chefs put passion into the food.
Deserts get a thumbs up, all cooked from scratch.

Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food.
Mayfield is charming.

Traditional pub that serves traditional pub food to a better than average standard. I had a steak and mushroom pie, which was excellent. Packed full of juicy, tender steak in a rich sauce; the only surprise was the lack of mushrooms!

The best Sunday Roast Ever! We had butternut squash soup for starters- creamy and smooth. The lamb was the highlight of the visit, it was perfectly cooked to medium, and was melting in my mouth- that was truly best lamb I ever had... Similar only would be at Raymond Blanc's 4 Season restaurant in Oxford so far. Lovely place to stay for a long cosy evening in the winter with those huge fireplaces. Nice selection of spirits and welcoming staff.

Come here on special occasions, food is always amazing! Never been disappointed, staff are polite and friendly! Area at back is very spacious! Love the new layout! Only downside would be on certain things can be slightly pricey!

Food is very varied and cooked to a good standard. Good sized garden for those with dogs and a kids play area (restricted due to covid). It's located in a prominent part the village which is very scenic and time set.

Fantastic locally sourced menu. I had the black pudding scotch egg (perfectly cooked, beautiful presentation) and the pork belly, which came with a superbly crisp piece of pork crackling and several vegetable elements. I thought the portion of the main meal might have been slightly too large (though I did finish it) but this might have been just me.

Friendly and knowledgable staff, great range of food and very accomodating of vegetarians and vegans. Best service we've had. If we lived closer, I'm sure this would become our regular family gathering gathering place. 5 stars

Outstanding Sunday roast, one the best I've ever had out, though the gravy could have been made from a beef base instead of poultry. The beef was so local that the farmer was enjoying a pint on the next table. He was able to tell me the age, breed, pasture of the beast. I'll bet he could have told me its name. (Harry, apparently!)

The beer is fresh, also local, served by a right character behind the bar, who I presume is also local! Everything was decently priced, which made for an all round fantastic time.

Thank you!

The Middle House has an unusual atmosphere, with the very old fashioned inside area and the much more contemporary conservatory area, and I like it!
We had a little mix up when my other half ordered the vegetarian roast and she wasn't told they have the choice of a nut roast or plate of vegetables and she was give the latter when she wanted the former. The waitress apologised and ordered a nut roast to add to the veg.
I had the vegan 'fish' and chips, made out of banana blossom and it was delicious. Highly recommend.

They only missed out on 5 stars by a hair for me. Slightly more consistent service and they would have had it. Still, I'd recommend giving this place a a try.

One of the best pubs I have ever been to. Try lamb shank. Also try going there on a Sunday, great variety of roast meat for a mean Sunday roast! Love the garden, love the inside, love everything about it!!!

Nice afternoon tea. Amazing scones. Could of done with a bit more jam though. Chocolate fondants were also delicious. Other desserts were so so. Egg and cress sandwiches were really nice. Mozzarella and pesto sandwiches a bit plain. Nice atmosphere and views plus great selection of teas.
