An absolutely fantastic vegetarian and vegan restaurant. One of the best I have ever been to. The inside is nicely decorated, but if the weather cooperates, the outside seating is fantastic. Good selection of bar drinks. As is typical in Asheville there is very little parking downtown or near the restaurant. I suggest splurging on the parking garage and not worrying. When we come to Asheville we go to the Laughing Seed at least once if not twice during each weekend visit

We visited here on our first morning in Asheville, and I wish we had time to go again! The food was A+, and they have a beautiful well shaded patio that is dog friendly. Our server was also really friendly. Highly recommend!

What an awesome find!! This vegetarian/vegan cafe has an amazing menu! Loads of delicious food and drink options. Reasonably priced and the staff is super friendly. I sat on the patio with my dog and they were very accommodating. The waiter even brought my pup her own water bowl! I ordered the BBQ jackfruit sandwich with sweet potato chips. It was out of this world! I will definitely be back!!

Food was great, but sadly our server was not in the best of moods. She seemed super distant, cold and when I started to feed my dogs their treats for their good behavior, she told me that unless the dog food was vegan, I couldn't feed it to them while I sat at the outdoor table. I have never heard of not being able to feed my dog my own treats because they didn't fall under the "guidelines" of the restaurant. Shouldn't be advertised as "dog-friendly" instead, "vegan dog-friendly"

Laughing Seed Cafe is a MUST for vegetarians/vegans to visit, while in Asheville. Even carnivores loved the food from this vegetarian restaurant! If you go, get the cinnamon rolls...they are FABULOUS!!

This was our first time eating here. The menu selections are great! We had the harmony bowls. The tempeh was so tasty. It was marinated and tasted great going into my belly. The grilled tofu was ok (first time eating tofu). We also had a pizza and it was good too. Next time we visit Asheville, we will definitely stop here again.

I want to eat here everyday. We got a handful of small plates and a huge salad. The tofu with Wasabi dressing was mouthwatering, the pakoras were light and fluffy, but the mushroom scharma was an unexpected wonder. I forgot to ask what kind of mushrooms they use... (So if you see this let me know :D) but whatever kind it was it was so flavorful. Also loved the cucumber raitia underneath the mushrooms. Highly recommend the grapefruit-ginger mojito!

Served vegan food and good beer, ... however, would not allow use of the restroom, ... so, not great hospitality. They refer you to City owned outdoor portable outhouses, a half a block away. So, if you want vegan food, and the portolet experience, this is your place !

First, let me compliment the Buffalo Tacos. They were so good, that we chose to order takeout the following night and try the Spinach Manicotti. BIG MISTAKE for us! It is the only RAW entree dish and I didn t see this (is listed last ~ after VG), nor was this brought to our attention. I take full responsibility for stopping at the Vegan/Gluten-free...but it would have been lovely to have someone confirm that it was indeed raw/freezing cold and, to us, pickled bitter. We spent almost $40 on take-out, and had to eat elsewhere on top of that. Just a fair warning, so this doesn t happen to someone else!

My wife, Victoria and I, had heard a lot about this place. In fact the Air BnB host we stayed with, Michele, had recommended it.

It did not disappoint.

Gorgeous interiors, a catchy name, a well-made outdoor patio ideal for summers, polite and professional waitresses, and the best vegan menu I have ever seen outside Florida.

The banjo player playing under the tree, only added to our experience here.

(They even have an indoor rock climbing place with very reasonable rates across the street, which me and my stepson Sebastian, made full use of!)

Verdict:
There's no way you're having a complete vegan dining experience in Ashville, if you don't dine at the Laughing Seed Cafe.
Period.

My favorite restaurant! Delicious food, tons of options, and a staff that is willing to work with any dietary restrictions you may have. Quality food at a reasonable price. I will always visit whenever I am in town. PS never get rid of the classic items!!!!!

I'm not a vegetarian, but this place was spectacular. The thought that went into this expansive menu was palpable. We had trouble choosing between 5 flavorful plates that were carefully created for maximum deliciousness. The grits and "crab" cakes were particularly delicious. Plus the outdoor seating, beer selection, and live music from a local musician set it over the top.

Enjoyed Sunday brunch last weekend. Our second visit as vegan out-of-towners (live about 2 hours from Asheville) and it didn t disappoint. No need to ask for no cheese and other stipulations - simply order as the vegan option and they take care of it! Went with a non-vegan couple and they were also impressed. Whether you want hearty or light, there are many great choices.

One of my favorite Asheville restaurants. We had an all vegan dinner. Chipotle beet soup with blue corn chips, cooked veggies with black beans, tempeh and avocado plus jackfruit sandwich with BBQ sauce. And vegan lime cheesecake for dessert. Everything was excellent.

I used to come here a couple of decades ago when I lived in the area. I miss it.

This was my second visit to Laughing Seed. I came back because the first time the food was really good and was even tasty the next day. I got the same thing I did last time which was the vegan Reuben. I am a person who likes a little extra salt on my food, but despite not adding any salt to the dish, it was unbearably salty and the sweet potato chips were also unbearably salty and had so much pepper it was disgusting. I've never heard of putting pepper on sweet potato chips anyway. I don't know if they got new chefs or what but for this reason I will probably not be back and would definitely not recommend

Absolutely delicious meal. I went with a large group and every person raved about their meal and their cocktails. I had the southwest burrito and I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best burrito I've ever had. It was incredibly flavorful and filling. The staff was pleasant and the atmosphere was great.

I have been to Laughing Seed Cafe dozens of times with my family, the waiters and waitresses are so nice, the food is very good and whole some. It is a little expensive but their food is very distinct and different than most other places, especially in the realms of vegetarian cuisine.

Used to really love this place but it has gone downhill over the past year. My wife and I have been going to Laughing Seed for 9 years now and the last two visits in the past year have been terrible. The service sucks. Straight up. The servers have acted like we are bothering them being there and were not attentive at all. Very pretentious vibe from the current wait staff. We had food issues both times with incorrect orders. We agreed that last night was our final visit to Laughing Seed after our experience with our server. He barely greeted us, rushed our orders, and never once checked to see if we needed anything else or if our food was good. Our order was wrong but it wasn't enough to upset us and want it remade. A little disappointed though. What really dissapointed us was they after our first round of drinks we most definitely wanted more and he never checked on us or acknowledged as I waved at him when he looked in our direction. Now thats just lousy service. When paying our check our server stated our credit card was declined when there was absolutely no reason for that. Called the credit card company and they said a charge wasn't even attempted. We used the card immediately after at a bar and it worked just fine. So that's strange. Was this guy incompetent or just didn't care? Also they have taken things off the menu that were incredible in the past and favorites of ours. The new additions were just OK and nothing outstanding. Hate to say our relationship is over Laughing Seed but there is too many incredible restaurants in Asheville with far better service

Went for the first time a few weeks ago with a Vegan friend and we were both really happy with our brunch. My chilaquiles were huge and delicious and the Vegan breakfast platter was given the stamp of approval as well.

It's really good but some items are a little over priced. If I go there with my two year old it's not uncommon to spend $50 and tonight I went with my 2 year old and my husband and our bill was $96 before a tip. That's with no alcohol. I have spent 1000's here over the years and I love it the food but let's not fool ourselves, it's pricey if you want to get full.

Belated Birthday Brunch... My mom, sister, daughter and I went to Laughing Seed for lunch. We were all pleasantly surprised! The food was amazing. The jalapeno fries are a must! My daughter is a raw vegan, it was so refreshing to actually eat someplace where we all can enjoy the food. The manicotti pictured below was her choice she loved it!! I'll definitely return..

The hostess was gracious and seated myself and husband and two children outside. After that more than one server looked over at our table but never came over. Other tables were seated after us and drinks served...we left after 10-15min. of getting no attention and walked right past a server on the way out who did not make eye contact. Deplorable service, very disappointing.

I am a vegetarian and always on the lookout for creative and unique restaurants! I first visited this restaurant in 2011 and I loved it so much that I detoured a roadtrip (from Charlotte to Nashville) so I could go back for lunch this spring! My favorite thing I have tried so far is the "reuben" but I also love their juices. The patio is really cute and the servers are knowledgeable and friendly. I plan to stop there next time (and every time?) I pass through Asheville!

My step mother and daughter ate at your establishment last night and loved everything! They are not vegan or vegetarian nor has my step mother ever eaten vegan. Customer service was on point however the server did not mention spice level nor did the menu. They would recommend this place again.

Really good vegetarian restaurant. Everything sounded so yummy it was hard to decide what to select. The Farmer's Pie (think Shepard's Pie without meat) was scrumptious. We were too full to try dessert, but that's just one more reason why we'll have to go back!

Food was fresh and quality was very good, portion size so so for the cost. Paid $40 including tip for vegetarian Ruben sandwich, cauliflower pizza and beer battered okra. No drinks.

Outdoor seating is available; bathroom was a bit filthy during my visit.

Amazing food and great friendly service. My husband got the Rueben and I got the sloppy joe and my 3 year old son loved the grilled cheese. All three were outstanding and French fries are so good. I don't like pickles yet their homemade ones were so delicious!!! Next time we come to Asheville we will definitely come back again!! Can't miss this place. Great vegan options on almost the whole menu. Great decor and good craft beers.
