Fantastic 3 course meal deal, was absolutely huge though, I ended up cutting mine to 2 courses as couldn't handle pudding. Blond haired barmaid on the bottom bar, was excellent as well. Not sure on her name but didn't sound Nothern.

Why invest so much in the decor and not the food?

Why invest so much in the decor and not the food?

The menu is very misleading ie tripled cooked chips, they were frozen chips that had been deep fried. The 28 day mature steak was awful. The garlic and coriander prawns were just prawns (no flavour).

If we wasn t so hungry we would ve sent it back and walked out.

Staff were very friendly but inefficient. Bad management not bad staff in my opinion.

Go to weather spoons, it s cheaper and exactly the same.

Went for a meal last evening 2/11/2019
The decor the atmosphere on the welcome were all very good but and here s the but we arrived at 7:15 pm And was warmly greeted and shown to our table nobody asked us if we would like to order any drinks and after 10 to 15 minutes we attracted one of the staff The drinks arrived about 20 minutes later and we ordered our starters at the same time the starters arrived about 30 minutes later and we re okay but it took 55 for the main course to arrive and when it did it was okay but for the money We expected a bit better and at one point we were going to pay for the drinks on the starter and leave but a member of staff came to us and apologise for the delay I know they were busy but 55 minutes between courses for pub food just doesn t cut it I felt sorry for the staff they were overworked and were doing their best would I go back most probably not

The atmosphere is excellent the food all though a chain is good. There can be a wait for food because it is popular just a matter of picking the right time bar service can be sporadic again depends on the time. All in all very well managed good staff but can be busy

We came here for our office Christmas do. We made sure we pre ordered all the food. As a result, the service was impeccable and the food was really good too. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. A great selection of wines and beers, and also alcohol free beer selection is good too!

Very nice setting and visually stunning since the refuerb. Cracking pint of Greenking's IPA which is always a positive.

Unfortunately the food was nothing special considering the price. Very small portions, even though I do expect this when out but for my partner to mention it its got to be small.

Had pre-ordered our food as requested when booking the table. Only when the food was being served and the waitress came up with 2 chicken dinners did we find out the beef was off. 1st excuse from waitress "we've run out" after pointing out we'd pre-ordered the manager explained the beef was sub standard and had to be returned. That's OK but one of the was either lying or just making up excuses.

General service we felt was poor. The kids desert's arriving after most of the adults had already finished eating theirs.

The overall quality of the food was OK but just OK I've had just as good from other restaurants at a fraction of the price.

Very pleased with the choice clean and well presented. All the staff were very welcoming from walking through the door, throughout our meal and leaving. Great food and will be returning. Its a credit to all that works there.
thank you.

I had the fish and chips, both were very good. The let down was the peas, which where either over cooked or old.
Service was ok, however I had to go up to the counter to request the bill as no one returned to the table after the good was served.

Really disappointed this visit to the Keys.we've been here quite a lot in the past but not for a few months .went with some visiting family and none of our meals were satisfactory. Myself and my daughter ordered the chicken bacon and mushroom pie .both came burnt and hard and smothered in gravy (probably to mask the pie no doubt).my daughter in law ordered a side of sweet potato wedges .the portion amounted to 5 wedges (small ) .my son ordered chicken wrapped in bacon .the portion was minute and the bacon looked old and unappetising. As well as this the waiting time before the starters and then the main meals were about 30 minutes .very very disappointing. If it's under new management or new chef this needs sorting sooner rather than later .3rd rate food at overpriced cost.

What can I say.... it has all the components of a fab eating house without the attention to detail. The food just didn t hold up to the price. My family and I ate there today (Sunday). We had a mixture of dishes including fish and chips, roast beef, roast Gammon, and steak. The beef was fine and the gammon beautiful however the roast potatoes were cooked so much there was no potato left in them, the Yorkshire puddings were so hard when trying to cut into it a few of us knocked half the veg off our plates all over the table, they had to be eaten like a crisp, and it sounded like a crisp too...I couldn t eat mine. Don t bother with the crackling as it was like eating a salty twig and barley chewable. My husband had a steak with a huge fatty vein running through it which he had difficulty eating around and it was very very very well done and not what he asked for. The veg was dry.... not sure how that was achieved!! The fish was made to look huge but it turned out it was mostly batter, some people might like that. The service was a tad slow but we enjoyed the time we had to enjoy our meals and chat. The desserts were fine too. The lead waitress was lovely however very overworked. She spent most of her time chasing up the other staff who have a few training needs. The young girl collecting our plates didn t ask how our meals were so I made sure I told her about my issues. She went to tell the chef and that s the last we heard about it. She even forgot to clear half the plates or she was avoiding us not sure which but she had no reason to avoid us as I was very nice about the issues. The most concerning thing was that we noticed the lead waitress was unable to use her arm. We asked her about it and she mentioned she had slipped in the kitchen. She couldn t ball her fingers up and I asked if I could look at her arm. There was a huge bruise going up her arm and her wrist looked a little out of shape. She clearly needed to go to A& E however said she couldn t because it was too busy and the staff would not cope. It was 4pm and her shift did not finish until 7pm. I feel so so sorry for her as she was lovely and clearly in pain and I am hoping that she was able to find a way to get away early and get treatment for her arm. Perhaps spending time teaching the staff the basics would have made all the difference. I don t think i will be in a hurry to go back. There are other pubs in the area that offer everything they do with better trained staff and better quality food. Maybe the chef was having a bad day or maybe they were short staffed however as we didn t receive any feedback from the complaint we are unable to give them the benefit of doubt.

Went to the cross keys Thursday night for a meal. Heard through the grape vine that the pub had undergone a make over. I was pleasantly surprised on the transformation.
Purchased two drinks at the bar that I thought were a bit expensive. Sat down at our table and read the menu that intrigued me with the restaurant Quality meals on offer. We both ordered starter and mains.

Summary: restaurant atmosphere, expensive restaurant prices and potential restaurant food that was a disappointing pub grub.
However the staff were the very friendly and the pub would make s great stop for a drink and a socialise. Disappointing food experience tho.

Stopped in on a return journey from catering an event down south and the quality of the food was varied. My partner felt their sweet potato and leek crumble (not sure exactly what this dish was?) was watery and lacking in seasoning while the waiter misheard my friend and bought us haddock when he had ordered ham, egg and chips. On the positive side however, the sweet potato wedges side were both crispy and soft and seasoned beautifully, my own Caesar salad was rather good, the dressing having a good sharpness, and the chicken being nicely charred, if slightly dry.

The decor was light and airy, and most importantly, the waiters put up with the fact that my friends and I must have looked like crumbly hippies rolling into their rather nicely presented establishment. The prices were good for the area and the food served.

All in all, the experience was good enough that I would consider a second visit, to.maybe try a few more bits.

First and last time at The Keys.

First and last time at The Keys.
If it were not that the interior decoration is very nice, and the waiters do their best to manage the service decently, this bad restaurant-pub would have deserved zero stars.

For GBP 12, however, I was served the worst Caesar Salad of my life, which, inexplicably, comes covered with anchovies in vinegar, as well as 3 strips of chicken and not well-defined sauce.
My jaws are still writhing, and taste buds ask for revenge!

I finished with a glass of wine and a coffee, leaving on the spot the beauty of 26.70 GBP spent in the worst possible way.
First and last time at The Keys !!
