My second or third time here. Great good. Decent prices. Live music with lots of seating for your wait for a table. The place is big so waits are not terrible. You can buy drinks from an outside bar while you listen to live music. The bathroom is the worst part of this place.

Excellent service and recommendations. My girlfriend and I visited for her birthday. We have had Gristmill on our radar for years but haven t been able to take a trip to the San Antonio area until now. We ve spent many nights stalking their Instagram and Facebook posts, waiting for the chance to visit!

We literally woke up at 6AM in El Paso and drove straight to Gristmill. It was everything I hoped for, the food was incredible and looked just like it does on the web. It s 100% a must-visit restaurant.

Thank you Terri for the great service and memorable experience!

Down home Texan eatery with delicious hearty food and a classic vibe. Definitely one of my favorite places to go and we have a blast each time. Highly recommended if you re in the area.

Awesome place to stop for lunch or dinner. The onion rings are a must have but they are big, like Texas size big. The chicken fried steak is my go to item on the menu but I have enjoyed a salad or two over the years also. The remodeling is finally finished and they did a great job on the bathrooms. I know that's not why your stopping by but it makes the visit all thatuch nicer. Take your time relaxe and enjoy the view.

If you're in New Braunfels to eat, you have to hit up the Gristmill. Much of the original mill has been turned into the dining area but if it's warm out, request an outdoor table to get a view of the river while you eat. Any food on the menu is excellent bit I love the barbeque when they have it available. Otherwise get the burger and onion rings.

I desperately wished to come here after watching the place on the Food Network . I wanted to eat the infamous fried chicken steak . The place had a nice and comfortable atmosphere. The staff were extremely friendly and executed some amazing meals . Worst the drive from San Antonio!

My wife and I took an anniversary trip out to Gruene to experience the culture and get away from city life for a short while. We had a 3-day trip and ate here twice. It was that good.

For dinner, day 1, we happily ordered a sausage plate appetizer, and it was not only beautiful and delicious but a hearty portion size for the price! I had the ahi tuna, and it was deliciously seasoned and perfectly cooked. We both left fat and happy.

For lunch, day 2, I had a catfish fillet which was enormous. It was a perfect lunch, and we paced ourselves so as to save room for dessert, and we took a chocolate cake to go.

The service was great both days, and we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and gorgeous patio view. We're thankful to have had the experience we did, and a large part of it was this fantastic restaurant!

Gives me no joy to give one star. I've been here so many times but today was my last time. It's so very busy that food quality has gone down. The bugers were simply not cooked and left raw inside. Waitress was great and kind but shes so busy I needed to go find her. Once she saw them she was in full agreement.
The desserts are ok. I stoped ordering them a while back. However, I wanted to give it another chance today.
Riverside Grill, I believe same owners has better food quality hands down. Chicken fried steak is also bigger.
The ambiance is a tad better at Gristmill but River Grill also has an amazing Hill country feel.

Busy place with a 45 minute wait on this popular Saturday though they let you know and have a lovely beer (and margarita) garden area with a band to wait in. The food was wonderful, presented nicely and served timely. Their costs are reasonable. I'd definitely recommend them!

This is a must stop restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxing in a beautiful location with indoor and outdoor seating. The spinach salad with bacon was a great start. The bay back ribs are off the hook!!!! The meat feel of the bone. The chicken salad was huge and tasty.

We are new parents and ventured out with our little one for the first time to enjoy the beautiful outdoor seating. It s our wedding anniversary spot and it never disappoints. But this time was different as we balanced having a 2 month old along for the ride.

Our server , I believe his name was Darrell, was the main reason we felt like it was the best time we could have had. He noticed we were slightly on edge not sure how our little one would react and you could tell he quickly went into okay I can accommodate this mode. He got us our check mid meal, offered to go drinks when it probably wasn t typical to do so during the middle of lunch but it just worked out perfectly.

The service here of the young Highschool kids is what I love most and reminds me of my time in the service industry. Gristmill picks them well and we should all support these kiddos to the best we can. Good service is an incredible skill for the future real world.

Thanks For a great time!

One of the best restaurants we've been to in a long time! The building itself is warm and historic, built from timber and stone and filled with large fireplaces. It was very inviting on a cold night. The food is even better than the atmosphere with service to match. We will definitely be coming back and also recommending the Gristmill to friends!

Atmosphere is beyond cool here. Restuarant is in the old mill. Waiters are very attentive and the food was amazing. Chicken salad sandwich is one of rhe best I've had- has bacon which is an interesting twist. They have live music on Sundays but there is a bit of a wait. Definitely worth the experience.

So very disappointed in the Gristmill this time. Ordered the chicken fried chicken and my wife and I concluded the it should be called wimpy chicken fried chicken, consisting of a very thin chicken breast, deep fried with nary a trace of the crunchies one might expect for real Texas chicken fried chicken. My wife ordered the trout, which was supposed to be an 8 ounce filet. It was presented to her paper thin (some what an exaggeration) but not by much. Lucky, if it were 4 ounces (seriously), dang!. The steamed veggies were mediocre. My wife's to-go tea cup cracked in the middle, causing a big mess all over the place. What has happened to the old Gristmill? Think twice before going. There are a number of great resteraunt's here in New Braunfels that still remain tradionally great all around.. My suggestion is that they not sacrifice everything, to include quantity and quantity for that almighty dollar.

The atmosphere is the Gristmill's best quality. It's rustic and charming, there's indoor and outdoor seating, beautiful scenery, and blazing fireplaces in the winter. There's always a wait though. The food is good comfort food and portions are huge.
