Excellent food and atmosphere! Rustic, but exactly the way I like it. Had the Peppercorn Steak and it was EXCELLENT! Btw, if you have a chance, order the Onion Rings - best I have ever had.

I came here for a family outing with my parents and they took me to Gristmill telling me how great it was. I have to admit, they were pretty spot on. I got the chicken fried chicken and a side of mash. The food was delicious. My mother s beef tenderloin sandwich was wonderfully tender. My dad got a regular hamburger and it was decent, but the area that this place lacked was the drinks and customer service. My mom had been there previously and requested the same drink she got last time, but it wasn t right when she got it. Normally we would tell the waitress or waiter, but ours would disappear shortly after arriving and we didn t get much time to tell her our issue. By all means, it was not terrible customer service, it just wasn t stellar. We eventually were able to tell her our complaint, but by then we had already finished our meal. So to finish, would I come back?? Yes, but would request a seat in the back because they have a lovely view and they sat us in the front room with no visible view of New Braunfels lovely greenery (what the place is known for too btw).

Great place to eat as always. We've been going to the Gristmill since the mid-80s. The food is good, the atmosphere is great, and the wait staff always seem to enjoy their jobs. It is a place our children choose to go back to when they come to visit.

I'm surprised they haven't added the baby back ribs to the menu but if you're a local these are probably one of your favorites. The catfish is some of the best around. My daughter had the fried shrimp today and they looked fantastic.

We never save room for dessert as the portions are generous. At some point, I'm going to have to come back just to eat dessert.

There bar selection has much more on it than it has in the past. I didn't order anything but it all looked pretty good.

Decor is perfect for a building of this vintage. Food was great and plentiful. Atmosphere was awesome, how much better can it get with live music and bar(s) in the waiting area? All the staff were friendly and our waiter was exceptional. It was warm, but guess what, it's Texas in the summer. It was really fun to hear other patrons whining about the heat. Would definitely recommend this as a stop when you are in the area. And as a side note, the cole slaw is almost as good as Huck's (Huck's Catfish, Denison, TX)

I was pretty impressed. But my best friend wasn't. The chips & queso are awesome. The chicken salad is kinda plain, but there was alot of it. The Cole slaw was good but it had bell peppers in it. The waitress was outstanding! I apologized for leaving the mess on the floor under the high chair. And we also tipped pretty well.

The food and service was excellent. The restaurant has a nice view of the Guadalupe River. The restaurant is an outdoor restaurant with no air conditioning. Be sure to visit on a nice cool day. The food is excellent. You need to order the beef tenderloin sandwich.

Eaten at Gristmill several times over the years and never had a disappointing meal. Went Monday 10/13 for a buddies B-day and had a great time. Our server, Adam was attentive, buddies streak was over cooked, but a replacement was brought incredibly quick. Restaurant was clean, tables were socially distant. Strawberry Shortcake was as good as ever!

Great views, food is just ok. Lots of tables is nice to minimize the wait time until your fighting with your table neighbor for space. We had a great time and enjoyed the food but could use some improvements.

This place was suggested by the front desk at the hotel. We we're not disapointed. We all had the ribs which fell off the bone and we're juicy. The waitress made excellent suggestions for drinks and food. The jalapeno Margarita was on point. Lots of street parking.

After a long day on the river it was great to sit down and eat good home cooking food. I had the broccoli cheese soup which was amazing. The original cut round fries were also delicious. For the appetizer we had Chips, questo, and salsa. It was very good.

What can i say about this wonderful place?, That i simply loved everything about it!!

This restaurant is so inviting with great service, our server whose name i totally forgot (sorry!) was such a friendly and helpful guy.
Even though it was extremely busy he made sure we had a great experience.

And the food, WOW. Just wonderful all the way around

I seriously recommend this restaurant, you'll fall in love with it!

Probably the top tourist place to eat in Gruene/New Braunfels. Decent food and lovely, historic atmosphere. Hot as hades in summer, though, because no air conditioning. Fans, but no a/c.

I would recommend going to this place if you've never been but only for that reason. I've been several times and the food definitely leaves alot to be desired. Most recently I ordered the bacon wrapped filet. It came out over cooked and covered in seasoning to the point that you could only taste the seasoning. The broccoli was brown but the mashed potatoes were pretty decent. We waited over an hour for a table for two but once we were seated the service was excellence. I'm not a local so only visit occasionally but will definitely look elsewhere from this point forward when it comes to restaurants.

Husband and I had their burgers. My daughter had chicken strips. The place and th4 food didn't give us any wow factor. I think it's over rated. Waitress was very nice and I can tell she's been there for a while. Wait time for food was fine. I probably wouldn't go back to this place again. They need A.C. lol it's All outside. Inside means a roof covered. So dumb.

Very beautiful location. Love all of the vines, outdoor seating and history. Ordered Chicken fried steak and it was delicious.
They were very good about seating customers with social distancing. We were told our wait would be over 2 hours but ended up being only about one hour, so that was nice.

This restaurant has an almost cult like following from locals in that it is one of those hidden restaurants that locals love. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is very unique and romantic. We have brought our children here and have had no issues with that. Just an all-around local gem of a restaurant. The wait time for such a popular place can at times be expectedly lengthy, but I don t personally feel that should lower their rating because if it s popularity. The great thing is having plenty to go look at in Gruene while you are waiting - a charming old town center.

Gristmill has a fun atmosphere and good food. The restaurant is gorgeous and old fashioned with bricks and great views. The food was good and the serving size was generous. However, the food took 45+ minutes. It was disappointing to see the burgers were $9+ without a side and the sides were $4+. Overall Gristmill was a good restaurant and worth a visit, but don't be in a hurry when you visit.

Our food was delicious (I had the fresh catch which was blackened salmon and hubby had the chicken fried steak)! Their house /specialty margarita was equally yummy! Atmosphere is always good! It's a busy place and there can be a wait, but it's always been worth it!
